This was our second stop today; easy to do since their neighbor (75 yards away) was our first stop! Learned a lot today about the winery today, and dispelled a few misconceptions I had. Winery is smaller than I thought (5500 cases) and all wines are estate grown. Only three wines are regularly distributed, so there are a bunch of gems awaiting discovery! Without exception, these wines are extraordinary; the more common wines are very food-friendly, and show excellent aging potential. Thanks to Terry who guided us through the tasting and making recommendations for restaurants and other potential stops. After living in Walla Walla for over a year, I'm embarrassed to say I have not enjoyed everything the valley has to offer. The first most embarrassing is never going to Woodward Canyon. Short story: it did not disappoint. My favorite was the GSM (SMG?) pictured. So flavorful. The tasting had 5 reds - whites on the way in may - with 2 bonus pours. I will be bringing my visiting friends here in the summer. Buy a bottle of Chardonnay, a bottle of Syrah (or their stellar cab franc) and enjoy a picnic on the lawn. It's a bit of a hike out of town for Main Street Walla Walla, but it is worth the drive. As a heads up, the seating inside in the tasting room is a tad unconventional - a table, a few chairs, and a bar area - but it makes it more intimate. read more

This turned out to be one of our favorite wineries and tastings. The price was reasonable at $10 a tasting and the staff was very friendly. It was such a gorgeous afternoon, that we decided to enjoy our tasting in the their backyard area and it was just beautiful. It's a peaceful area with a wood fire pizza oven, lots of flowers and several seating options. They offer either a reserve tasting (their more expensive wines) or just their regular tasting at the same cost. We went for the reserve and our friends chose the regular tasting. As it turned out, I think we all enjoyed our choices and will definitely make a return visit next time we are in the area! read more

We visited Woodward Canyon Winery, which was a busy place to visit on Saturday. The building is a house, and was used as the headmaster's house back in the day next to the school, which is now L'Ecole 41. The tasting included two whites and three reds. I'm not a white wine fan, so didn't much like those; however, the red wines were good here. Of the wines we tried I really enjoyed the 2016 cabernet sauvignon, which is nearly $100 a bottle! It is definitely one to try. Woodward Canyon Winery's tasting room, which is the front area of the house. It's on the smaller side, so it did get cramped with the many people visiting when we were there. There's some seating, but would recommend sitting out on the front porch. The staff did a great job at bringing wines out to those not standing at the bar area for tasting, which was really nice. I would recommend visiting Woodward Canyon Winery during your Walla Walla adventure. read more

Woodward Canyon Winery was a quaint tasting room with a beautiful cellar and delicious wine. Variety of reasonably priced bottles with some cool history. Couple whites and small handful of reds on tasting menu at the time we went. Definitely walked away with a case and some knowledge of their almost 40 years of existence. Really enjoyed the cellar tour and their label choices of historic Walla Walla/ Lowden founders on vintages as well as beautiful art work on this millenniums bottles. We sat here forever and talked/drank wine, and they put up with our big loud group. The woman working was incredible and so easy to talk to. She was so accommodating, and we loved chatting with her. This place is easy to miss off the highway. We had passed other wineries on the way, but the cute little house up front caught my eye. They were offering a white flight and a classic flight. If you go with the classic, they will refund you $5 with bottle purchase. I went with the classic and they were all great and went down smoothly. They also have a restaurant open for the lunch hour offering small plates with local produce. The sommelier was nice to talk to and very friendly. She told us they have events from time to time. Wonderful experience! Great wines with generous pours in a lovely garden setting. The estate Barbera and estate dolcetto were particular standouts. This was our third stop wine tasting in the Walla Walla area. This was our favorite stop. The wine flights came in two varieties, but we were able to mix and match a bit. Being partial to red wines, we switched from a white to a red in the flight of 5 tastes. When it was over, we had sampled 8 glasses of their portioned reds, and zeroed in on the red we purchased. The tasting fee was waived when we bought the wine. The service was excellent, but note that we came mid-week, so there weren't a lot of people in tasting, about 8 at most. The information was helpful, and the descriptions in print were spot on. I'm not used to spending over $10 for a bottle, but a few of these made me aware that there are very special wines for very special times. read more

Woodward was an unplanned stop after visiting L'Ecole next door. We were impressed by the comfortable tasting room, and our wine steward was super approachable, and was willing to not only answer questions but offer suggestions of other wineries. We spent some time here, and bought bottles of varying prices, but consistent quality. They have moderately priced vintages that are as interesting as their more expensive founder's variety. We visited back in 2014 and were not impressed. However, after reading my review, the owner reached out and invited us back so we could see our experience was an outlier. Well they were right. We stopped by a week or so ago, without mentioning our disappointment 7 years ago, and the wines were outstanding, the pourer was as knowledgeable as he was engaging. We had a great time and ended up shipping 1/2 a case or so back to CA along with the bottles we took with us. Nice work guys. read more

As a first stop, this winery offered a nice start to our wine tasting weekend. Right next to L'Ecole No. 41, it features a nice patio, awesome tasting room and the opportunity to eat woodfired pizza on Fridays for lunch. Make sure you bring o'deurves and snacks for the kids though. Nearby there are two PokéStops and a gym providing entertainment for the whole family. The selection includes local varietals, blends and different types of tastings. You can apply the cost of the refundable tasting to a bottle but you cannot apply the cost of the Reserve tasting to a purchase. Prices are moderate to high but you are paying for quality and exclusivity which makes it reasonable. really homey and a welcoming place. this was our second stop, right after l'ecole. we walked across a grassy patch, looked at the fishies in the pond and tried to stay out of the heat. the people that spent time with us were super friendly and we chatted about what we were going to do. they gave us some hints about the area and where we might want to visit. super small tasting area, so don't come with a big group. some nice reds that we talked about but since this was our first stop, we didn't do too much damage. read more

One of the big boys of food wine in Walla Walla, you can't miss visiting this winery. The wine at Woodward Canyon is classic, elegant and surprisingly varied. Although it's easy for a winemaker to get roped into a particular style of wine, these guys have everything from the mild and easy to the big and bam! It's worth stopping in for several reasons: 1. It's a nice drive out to the winery. 2. The building is quaint and the staff super friendly. 3. If you take the time to ask questions, you'll get an education. 4. For the tasting fee, they pour a lot of wine and aren't afraid to break out the good stuff. Of course you'll want to buy a bottle, thus waiving the tasting fee anyways. I must quote a previous Yelp! review, "Regardless of your taste in wine, I would recommend Woodward Canyon for the opportunity to taste wine from one of the valley's earliest and longstanding estate wineries." So, why four stars instead of five? I have a tendency to judge wine as to how it holds up with and without food. Woodward Canyon is amazing food wine, no doubt. But to really enjoy their wine without food, you need to spend quite a bit on one of the higher end bottles. But that's just my humble opinion... You'll love the wine. For a little more expense, we received an outstanding experience from an ambiance, informational and tasting perspective. We learned about their wine and history of the winery as we moved through their impressive lineup. All of us enjoyed the conversation with our host, Courtney. In addition, we were informed of the restaurant right above us and were able to make a reservation for lunch prior to leaving the winery. A tasting experience worth exploring, as well as very good wines, I strongly recommend adding this location to your visitation list. My boyfriend and Ihave tried their wines before at retail stores. My favorite is their Riesling, which unfortunately they ran out of and don't make anymore. The wines were decent. I feel like since they're the second established winery in Walla Walla the staff thinks they can do no wrong. My boyfriend, who is new to wine tasting asked a few questions about their Rhone varietal (Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache), the guy pouring must've thought he wasn't "worthy" of drinking the wines. He completely ignored my boyfriend and did not pour him any more wine, even though he was only halfway through his tasting. We will not return there or purchase their wines. read more
