Lack of self-check out at this one may be an outlier. Of course, no alcohol sales in Maryland grocery stores is a slap in the face for those of us who have moved on to less Puritanical states. Absolutely packed on Sunday afternoon with big lines at all of the registers. Very friendly cashiers here, though. Many grocery items were cheaper here than their equivalents at Target next door. Expectedly, this was 5x more busy than Target.

Way back in the dark ages (okay, before October of 2010 - can you guess which grocery store opened…read morenot three miles away that inspires devotees from upstate NY and begins with a 'W'?), I used to go to Giant for the 'weird,' the 'gourmet,' and the 'organic' items that shoppers food warehouse didn't carry. Stuff like cilantro, organic store brand dairy, and my non-HFCS maraschino cherries. Well, wouldn't you know, that 'W' grocery that I love so much didn't have the item (dried porcini mushrooms) I was looking for recently, and rather than giving up and ordering from the big 'A' (two day prime shipping? I want it today!), I found it at Giant. And only for slightly more! This is ones of those groceries where you must sign up for a loyalty card to get the sale price, so if that bugs you, stay away. And they really should designate a self-checkout lane to GenX/Millennials only, but other than that, a good selection, moderate prices, and competent staff for the win!

This has been nice during the COVID times where I wanted space between me and the next shopper. There have been very few occasions when I was looking for a specific product or brand that they didn't have. The few times this has occurred, I've been able to find a substitute so my recipe is not impacted negatively. The produce, meats, and seafood have all seemed fresh, well stocked, and ordered neatly. I'd also like to give them a shoutout for how they've adapted to COVID and new regulations. There are always associates cleaning the aisles, racks, and conveyor checkout belts. For much of 2020 and 2021 there was also an attendant at the front of the store offering to wipe your cart down before using it. Over the years, some of the employees have started to recognize me and chit chat while I shop. I appreciate the friendly service.

That store is walking distance from my home, but if the website won't let me register, what do I do -- anything? I expected to sign up, but the website doesn't allow it. Also, the website doesn't let me see the entire list of customer reviews -- is that on purpose? I think someone needs to do some work on the website because it's hardly a Welcome to Weis Markets as it is now! Although it's not a huge part of my shopping, it would help that when I did have to go, it was neat & clean. Worst of all, it's at the front of the store. Their corporate office who I called promised a redelivery the next evening, which never happened, and then they promised a full refund. I have waited about a month now, never received anything back from Safeway. Have been a years-long customer at Safeway and Vons. They have liars working in Customer Service and idiots as delivery folks. This is not my first bad experience with the folks that they hire for delivery. Last Thanksgiving the woman who delivered my Thanksgiving groceries to my old residence stole about $45 worth of groceries. Messed up my Thanksgiving meal...People are obviously not doing well in our country or area in the DMV now, so these delivery people, some are not to be trusted to do the right thing or do their job correctly. I will never order a delivery order from Safeway again. I've learned my lesson.

The store has been out of the Simply Nature coconut water case for quite a while, yet the $6.99 case price tag is still displayed. Since the boxed cases are unavailable, customers must purchase the individual bottles at $1.50 each. I asked if buying six individual bottles could be honored at the case price, which is a reasonable accommodation many stores make when only the packaging is missing. Instead of receiving a respectful explanation, the manager, Jazz, spoke to me in a raised tone, repeated the same incorrect information, and became visibly irritated when I asked for clarification. When I ultimately asked to remove the items from my purchase, he rolled his eyes and responded with frustration. The interaction felt dismissive and unprofessional. After this incident, customer service reached out to me and assured me they would look into the matter. They made a point to calm the situation and promised follow‑up. However, every time I've reached out for an update, I've received no response. The lack of communication only adds to the disappointment. I understand supply issues happen, but the way this situation was handled--both in‑store and afterward--has caused me to lose confidence in the customer service at this location. It's located at Ritchie Station right next to TJ Maxx, so there's a massive parking lot. But on a weekend, you still may not be able to park close. It's a busy plaza! Upon entering, the aisles are easily labeled and the shelves were quite stocked. I found the juices I came for with no problems at all. Staff were super nice at the register and everything was seamless. There's nothing about this location that makes it stand out from the others -- I do wish that they, like the locations closer to me, had self-checkout. I'm a self-checkout king and I miss it when I don't have it, lol!
