We were driving though Taos and my Americanos on both visits were excellent! The first day-- Service was good and we chatted with a "traveler" outside of the shop who was friendly and didn't ask for anything. The second day-- Great Americano still, but the barista made a point to say I paid with a $20 bill (CASH ONLY) and I agreed. We got one medium and one large coffee and got charged $12!!! Later we calculated based on the menu board, and it should've been only $9 (all prices include taxes). No restrooms available, small sitting area with uncomfortable chairs. The female staff behind the counter wasn't helpful at all (rather rude in my opinion). I should've gone to another store called "Chocola" around the corner that seems to be a much better place. Worth the trip just to sit on the porch, that is if you are fortunate enough to find a space, I have managed to squeeze in over the years with the likes of Dennis Hopper, Jeremy Irons and a few more that know a world class cup of coffee when they taste one. If caffine tastes better with conversation then rightly this delightful spot deserves to be called...World cup coffee. Sitting in Cafe Jose on the Yucatan peninsular as I write this but should see you in spring, summer or fall as usual. read more

I'm not a coffee connoisseur, nor a habitual drinker of the stuff, but I do enjoy a good cup from time to time. Whenever I'm in Taos, this is the place to go. Not only is it conveniently located a block from the hotel we always stay at (Taos Inn), but it's also on the way to the Plaza for meandering around leisurely with a nice hot cup. My favorite? The Mocha Borgia, with the little bits of orange zest as you get to the bottom. Oh yeah, that's good stuff! No additional sweetener needed, it's just the right mix of bittersweet chocolate and orange. I visit Taos every couple years, and for me, this is a treat I look forward to every time I go. We just traveled x-country (from Phoenix to the East coast and back) and I can honestly say this was the best coffee I had on the entire trip! I'm usually a straight cappuccino or espresso drinker but noticed they had some unique "local to the area" type menu items. I asked and was convinced into the iced mocha Borgia. It was amazing - strong coffee taste with a dark chocolate and orange zest. It was a treat. As for the "communist" atmosphere, I disagree. They have some anti-establishment bumper stickers hanging up (which I agreed with and might order online!) but who cares if you agree with them or not, didn't you come here for good coffee? And it was! Now I'll be on the hunt for something this delicious close to home. read more

Looking to score an early AM cuppa in Taos and Yelp showed us "World Cup" on the plaza. Yowza if you're carrying cash (cash only) and are pretty liberal. Bumper stickers on sale: Eff the Plutocracy; Frack Politicians: Waterboard Cheney. And the people watching definitely adds to the overall ambience. The coffee was rock solid good and the gluten (glutton?) free blueberry muffin was a surprisingly satisfying treat. Typical coffee shop. I've noticed most of the coffee shops in Taos are the same; better than average coffee and a good attempt at a nice atmosphere. Having high coffee expectations, this place isn't so great. If you aren't super picky, it's probably amazing. There's not much room to just sit and relax, just two very small bars and bar stools that are the most comfortable. I was glad that they served hemp milk! (Although it was slightly burnt) And have a nice, simple menu (unlike other coffee shops in the area that are overwhelmed with super-sugary drinks with complicated names to cover up bad coffee and pulls). Out of all the places in Taos, I would recommend this as one of the top 3. If you are looking for a caffeine buzz, and plan on browsing the plaza, this place is for you! If you plan on snuggling up in a cozy place with a modern, hand crafted vibe and an indulging coffee experience, I'd probably not go anywhere in Taos at this point. read more

5 stars for the coffee, 3 stars for the experience... World Cup must be the best (only?) true coffee shop on the Taos Plaza, at least based on my visits there plus scanning the other options. They really know their coffee. For example, their baristas will make a cortado without batting an eyelid. They source their own blend in Central America - a little bold for my personal taste, but still outstanding. And if you want a sweet espresso drink, do try the Mocha Borgia (as recommended by others here). As for the experience, they only serve coffee, plus toast with different spreads. Just a few bar-stool seats in this quaint, hole-in-the-wall location (where they have been for 35 years!). So this is not where you'd want to spend a few hours enjoying snacks. No wifi, either. Unfortunately the staff is mixed - very friendly on one visit, rude on another - hence the lost star. Still, this is now my go-to coffee place in Taos - and many locals clearly agree. read more

It's a cute shop, but a blonde woman helped me and she has an attitude and was super rude. She didn't even let me finish my sentence before assertively telling me what my total was, I wanted to buy something else but after how rude she was I decided not to. I'm a barista too, I get dealing with people all day but it was just a very unwelcoming vibe. I'll find a different coffee shop the next time I'm Taos for sure. read more

I live in Manhattan, so I'm very used to attitude, snarkiness and high prices, but this place is just ridiculous. Completely full of themselves! You can smell the patchouli a mile away, they only take cash, only have espresso, and crank out major attitude if you ask to put milk in yourself. had two diff experiences here. day 1. excellent, kind service. had a machiatto which was perfect, as was the small cap with an extra shot. coffee is slightly bitter, but still good. drag that there are only to- go cups for a capacinno that is for here. but the gal, short, anglo, brown hair,) was so nice. even filled up my water bottle. (i was hiking.) think she is also a massage therapist. (overheard her talking) next day, again got a small cappucino with an extra shot. the menu lists small medium and large. small is 3 bucks. xtra shot is .75. day 1 they charged 3.75, quite right. next day, the dark haired girl with glasses i think, looked maybe hispano, charges 4. not that a quarter makes much difference, but its the point. so i ask, yesterday it was 3.75, and your menu lists 3 bucks for a small, and .75 for extra shots. she says, rather a bit arrogantly, that "double" cappucinos are $4.00 thing is , there is not such a thing listed as a "double" cap, only small med and large, and a medium is not 4.00, , because it also has more milk. i point this out, and she again just repeats, like an automotan, "a double cappacino is $4.00" they dont have doubles on the menu. what a bunch of rubbish. she lost her tip and i wont be back, and here is this review that, had she been like the person on day 1, would be 4 stars.. all to overcharge me by a quarter? rubbish. read more

Nice little coffee shop located just off the Plaza. The shop is very small. Don't plan on sitting around inside for very long, there just isn't room. I also recommend walking here as parking was pretty difficult. The coffee was good, but nothing to rave about. read more

The attitude can be challenging depending on who the current staff is but ultimately it is a great spot and lots of locals go here and I want to like it. Not sure why respecting your body and the earth means you have to disrespect others. This is a cute little coffee shop with wonderful organic and healthful offerings and some pretty disgusting anti-conservative postcards advertised for sale all along the counter. If you're going to call yourself the "world coffee", try to represent equally (especially if you want their money). I can't imagine an Obama postcard with him painted as a satanic zombie going over well anywhere, yet it's fine for liberals to be so hateful publicly. It sucks. Espresso is lovely though. read more
