I had a great experience I never expected at this store. I've lived a half a mile away for 12 years and was so surprised when I walked into the shop. I worked for EA Sports back in the 90s and they helped me find the game I had worked on back in 96 and I was able to purchase for next to nothing. I'll def shop here again. read more

They have the best selection in retro gaming but their prices are absurd. Generally everything has a markup of 30-40% even compared to other game stores in the area. The staff is very knowledgeable however and you can tell love their job but I would avoid until they fix their values. read more

Huge, cluttered, and disorganized. That's doesn't bother me no big deal. The price for what you get is what gets me upset. Bought a "brand new" ps4 controller here. Claimed it was a dollar off because packaging was messed up, they said the controller still worked because they tested it. Opened the package and the controller was very sticky and the left joy stick is jammed. I paid $63.56 basically for a broken controller. Yeah, these one star reviews are very well deserved. I'm a really big retro game collector but everything here is just insanely overpriced. I understand a little markup, but some of the prices on the more collectable stuff was hovering around $30-$40 more than you could get it online or even other stores. The store itself is dark, boiling and smells just awful. The staff isn't knowledgable about the products and seem to have other interests or to complain about the other shoppers in the store. Mostly about how he doesn't like couples coming in to "spend more time kissing and hugging than buying games". Me and 2 of my friends went to 3 gaming stores in the same night too try too add too our collections. The staff did a very good job of letting us check out their games and helping direct us where some would be! But the reason for this review was pricing, every game that you would want as a collector was 20% - 40% higher than in any other store in that area. But the excuse I have seen is the fact that they have very cheap low dollar games with buy 2 get one free. Out of the 3 stores we went too they had the best selection and rare games, BUT I didn't buy any of their high dollar games from there collection cause of the over pricing. I found multiple games that I have bought in the past for my collection that were in worst condition and priced much higher than they would ever be priced. If you are interested in collecting I would not recommend buying from this store unless you are buying very small titles and cheaper games. They sold a "completely functional" GameCube which had a sticky open button so the disk tray wouldn't close, I had to take it to Game Changerz to get it fixed which they then called me saying they opened the Game Cube and found several dead roaches inside! Considering I paid nearly $200 the poor quality is unacceptable. Not to mention when I asked if the price on the GameCube meant it came with everything (wires, controller, etc) and they said yes, but was charged $40 extra for the controller. The system was not cleaned as well and there was dirt in every crevice. When I took it back they told me I had to return it in 24 HOURS if I wanted to exchange it. The policy says if it's faulty then you have 30 days but according to the manager the disk tray and dirty console "wasn't faulty or defective". IF YOU WANT GOOD QUALITY STUFF GO TO GAME CHANGERZ!! They charge a fair price for clean, working consoles. Not to mention Game Changerz actually offer to repair faulty devices where as World Games store doesn't, even if they sold you a faulty/broken console. read more

Sold a game on eBay. It was delivered to World Game store. I'm in southern Utah so it was delivered after a couple of days. 30 days later they claim the game wasn't working and wanted a return. After looking further into the matter I found other reviews that show that world game store has been swapping purchases with other eBay purchases. read more

I'm a huge retro video game collector so I was excited to see a store like this. But man, their prices are outrageous! For example, Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt. You know, the game that came bundled with pretty much EVERY NES console ever sold. They think it costs $15. No wonder they have a huge stack of them. Ridiculous. Even when I saw something rare and cool, like the TurboGrafx Express, I was immediately disappointed that it's insanely overpriced. $300??? A quick eBay search shows that those things are all going for between $100-$150. I didn't see a single item that was reasonably priced. I will not be going back. Complete waste of time. read more

Great selection and staff I was overwhelmed with the size of this store and the variations of console but some game are way over priced they wanted $1300.00 for a old sealed Nintendo game called Nightmare on Elm street, that game retailed for $59.99 back in the 1980s what a mark up but they did have other non sealed games for normal prices. Came in for a cord for a SEGA, Braden was knowledgeable but kinda rude and felt like I was bothering him. I wanted to see something in the case and asked him if he could take it out, but acted and made excuses not wanting to help I could tell he was over people asking, but don't keep things in cases if you don't want them to ask about it. Overall the store had a TON of stuff a bit overpriced. I talked to a guy the day before I went in and he was great. Better help might be required. read more

Took my cousin here... I was astonished by how expensive their games are, at least 2X EBay. Don't waste your money.

The selection of games is pretty good, and the pricing is all right, the only thing really holding back the store from being great is the owner. The owner is hardly ever there, he opens and closes the store on a whim, he doesn't care about customers' orders or whether the customers are treated well at all really. He cares more about making a buck than actually helping out gamers. The employees there try to do their best, but with the store being so poorly managed, there's not much that can happen. An occasional good game can be found here for a reasonable price, just don't ever order anything through them, because you'll get it super late, if ever. read more

Moved to Utah recently, and have had a hard time finding any independent game stores, so I was excited to hear about this place. But their prices are way way too high. The staff also seems really disinterested in helping anyone except themselves and they constantly flirt with their girlfriends (or maybe they are employees too I'm not sure which since no one does any work.) Great store. Really friendly staff with a truly wide and varied selection of videogames from all decades. The staff has always been really friendly and willing to help me out. Theres also a huge projection screen in the back that you can try out videogames on before buying or rent for a party which ive done a couple times. This is my favorite videogame store and im glad to see a local game store do well. I love the laid back atmosphere. All in all most of my buisness will be going here. read more

Honestly walking in I was blown away with how much they had but a lot of things are too expensive. I personally own a ton of retro games and love going to different stores hoping to find a gem at a reasonable price. That did not happen here. As much as I loved their selection the problem is that it is too heavily priced. Even fan made games are in the upper 100's. The store seems severely unorganized and over cluttered. Games that I own and know sell for around 50 dollars they are trying to sell for 300 dollars. It felt more like someone bought a game store just to move all the games out of their mom and dads basement and they will sell but only what they think it is worth instead of actual market value. This place has potential to be one of the best and coolest retro game stores but they need to fix the prices to remove some of their stock so you can actually move around and find what you want. Hopefully whoever is in charge of pricing looks at this seriously. I have no problem paying even 5-10 dollars more than online for certain games but no way can I justify spending 5x the games value when the crappiest worst game that's barely worth 2 dollars is being charged for 15-20 read more

I've been in this store a couple times to check them out. The problem is not in their selection or their staff (both have been pretty good from my experience). The problem is their pricing. There's a website I use called PriceCharting that tries to average the going price of video games using eBay sales and things like that. Most places stick pretty close to that price within a few dollars. A lot of the games I've seen at World's game store have been like 40% higher than that. I got a copy of Metal Gear for the NES and the total was over $20. I could have purchased it from eBay for $12, from multiple sellers. PriceCharting also showed about $12. I'm not sure why they're priced that much higher than their competition unless they source their games from online and have a significantly higher cost. I suppose if you need retro game stuff quickly they have one of the best selections I've seen, but I personally don't think it's worth the difference in price. I can wait. read more

A mainstay of the corner of Highland and 1300 E., it seems like something that's always been there, which is sometimes a puzzle to me, considering the parking is very minimal, at best. I finally stopped in, after having driven by it for well over a decade, at least. This has a ton to offer, particularly if you're looking at less than current systems. All the usual newer stuff is there also, along with by far the most eclectic collection of video game related figures I think I've ever seen. This is a basically an electronic game store, however, so if you're looking for older versions of tabletop or board games, probably not your best bet here. But if you want to buy one controller, say, for an older system, this is the spot. There is a ton of different goodies in here, well beyond what I can reasonably describe in a review, but if you're into video games at all, this is definitely well worth going to check out. read more

I really like world's game store. Not only is it a trip down nostalgia way, but there is a giant selection of games, accessories, systems, etc. When I say there is a giant selection, I mean take about the same area as any GameStop location and stuff it with about 10x more games than any GameStop has. Not only is there a literally huge selection but you can find everything from first gen consoles such as Atari (the original), PlayStation one's, Nintendo 64, gameboy the list goes on. While the prices are a little higher, you're not going to find better prices on eBay or Amazon. I really like the staff, my friend and I had a good long friendly chat with one before we left. read more

Fundamentally Dishonest. A basic expectation of any retail consumer is that you will walk out with what you paid for. World's Game Store failed in this basic expectation and gave me no reason to expect any different in the future. I purchased a Nintendo Switch which stated on the box that it included a code for Mario Odyssey. I confirmed at the time of purchase that it was new. After taking it home, I found that the code was missing. Dreading the prospect of trying to convince the store that I had not taken it myself, I contacted Nintendo for help. Luckily they were able to provide me with another code. I returned to the store to inform them that the code had likely been stolen. When I told the employee of the problem, he shocked me by admitting that, unbeknownst to him, his boss had taken the code out of the box and sold it separately, leaving no indication of the misdeed on the box or informing anyone else. He offered me another code to make up for it. Not wishing to defraud whatever poor sucker bought the next box he would have taken the code from or however else this additional code would have been conjured up and having no use for two copies of the same game, I declined. He seemed confused why I would refuse to benefit myself at the expense of another. I suppose I shouldn't have expected any different from a store that is full of pirated game consoles infringing on the rights of the legitimate owners, but it pains me to think ill of a store that still sells Atari games. Still, in light of my experience, I cannot recommend shopping there. If their eclectic selection has something you just can't find anywhere else, be sure to open the box in the store and count everything in there. Plug it in and make sure it works if you can. You should take these precautions because, unlike most other retail establishments, you cannot trust the staff for even the most basic of expectations. I returned a few days later to speak with the manager. I would have returned sooner, but they didn't open at their posted hours on Monday. I was in the middle of calmly explaining what happened when the manager exploded. He yelled, he threw things at me, and he kicked me out of the store, threatening to call the police and banning me forever. I wasn't planning on returning anyway. He denied taking the game code out of the switch box. So either he was lying or one of his employees is stealing from the merchandise and he doesn't know and doesn't care who it is. read more

searched all over salt lake to find Mario Party 2 or 3 for the N64, Play n' Triad didn't have it nor did grey whale, didn't even bother to look at game stop. happened to be driving by Worlds game store so i stopped. When i went in found Mario Party 3 right away with other sweet gaming treasures from back in the day. they defiantly had a great selection of games (new and used) and other awesome things. also ended up talking to the owner for a wile. he was super nice and helpful with everything. I'm with out a doubt going back their just because the store is so cool inside. I would recommend it to anyone who is even remotely into video games. read more

I see a lot of people on here complaining about prices. I have been a costumer here for almost 3 years now and to that I say, this shop is not for poor people. They offer great games at the right prices, especially if you take into consideration their buy 2 get 1 free deal. They also have great costumer service, but if you try to rip them off then no shit you're not going to like them because I know the guys and they're not stupid. It's disappointing to see all the reviews on this page of people bitching just because the games are 1-5$ cheaper online, EVERYTHING IS CHEAPER ONLINE dumb asses. If you're that cheap sit your broke ass at home and shop online. I'm so sick of seeing these type of posts all over local stores reviews. If you complain about the return policy then you obviously didn't bother to look at the receipt they give you. No shit they're not going to give you a cash refund if you order a game in because they have to pay for it full price to get it in, so if you canceled the transaction then they'd lose money over you. Maybe you should count your money and think if you can afford it before you commit? Also if you buy a game or console and try to bring it back for a full cash refund 3 weeks later, what to do you expect? If they gave you a full refund then anyone could get a game for a month beat it and return it free of charge. They offer in store credit for all used stuff within 7 days and that's even better then Game Stop. I understand all the people writing reviews are upset because they couldn't scam this company, but damn... you girls are pathetic. Thank you Worlds Game Store for always treating me right and making me feel at home, keep doing what you're doing. There is always going to be jealous haters don't let them influence you, to people who are trying to decide if you should go in and take a look. I don't usually do this, but I'm fairly fed up with this place. I felt some kind of misguided desire to support a local business, so I decided to purchase a game from this establishment. I traded in a decent number of rare video games, which they pretty obviously ripped me off on the value of (I was okay with this at the time, mostly due to laziness and the fact that I would never actually get around to selling them on Ebay). The game that I wanted to purchase was out of stock, but I was told that it would arrive in a couple of hours. Those hours turned into days, which turned into over a week. When I finally got my 'new' copy of the game, upon closer inspection it had clearly been opened and played (my guess is by the employees of the store). I found my entire experience in dealing with this business unsatisfactory and felt lied to or cheated at every turn. I would absolutely not recommend dealing with them. This is all rather unfortunate because I find their selection of games, especially for older systems, to be very exciting and was hopeful about the existence of a neighborhood, non-Gamestop store. I guess I will continue to shop online. read more
