The space is intimate, with only 8 counter seats, so you're served directly by chef Li. To my surprise, all of the seats were full on a Friday at lunch. I didn't want to drink too much at lunch, but they had a $29 sake flight of three 1.5 oz pours, which was just the right amount to pair with the sushi but still be able to go back to work after lunch! Pre sushi: 1. Pickled baby ginger: I love this stuff, and he was good about refilling it 2. Crab with Japanese citrus jelly and shiso: a generous amount of sweet, fresh crab 3. Ankimo: two pieces, served with wasabi 4. Signature octopus: massaged 1 hour and stewed 1 hour - very flavorful and tender 5. Steamed abalone: served over soba with abalone liver sauce 6. Seaweed shot 7. Chawanmushi with scallops and caviar Sushi: 1. Hokkaido scallop with yuzu and sea salt 2. Spanish mackerel 3. Akami: lean bluefin tuna 4. Kinmedai: golden eye snapper, torched 5. Isaki: 3 line grunt fish 6. Kelp cured black snapper, shiso leaf, yuzu 7. Chutoro 8. Saba: mackerel with kelp 9. Otoro: torched, topped with uni The scallop and kinmedai were the highlights for me. We also got one of the à la carte add ons: the hand chopped fatty tuna and uni hand roll. To finish: red miso soup At the end, you can watch the chef preparing the bento boxes, which was a good reminder for me to keep my eye out for the next available pickup. The fish was high quality, and the pieces were cut to the right size (I've been to way too many places with unappealingly large cuts). Each course was thoughtfully prepared, and pacing was consistent. For the quality and quantity of food, as well as the service and dining experience, this was a hot deal for $125 a person. We will definitely be coming back!

The presentation is also lovely. I also loved the pickled ginger (that they keep refilling for you). Overall would highly recommend!

It's dimly lit, the ambience and decor are perfect for a romantic dinner date. for 6 we got: apps- - croquetas de jamon: crunchy shell with an salty, creamy, potatoey inside, - ensalada de patata: literally tasted like potato salad, couldn't taste much of the crab, the other flavors overpowered; would skip this one - empanadas: the tuna belly was so tender, wasn't dry at all, and paired well with the sauce (reminded us of the orange sauce from Spartans), somehow thought there was chicken in it too but apparently not - mini cornetos de atun: my favorite app, tuna was super tender and flavors melted in my mouth, it was slightly fruity, crunchy from the cone - oxtail canelones: one of the not as memorable menu items, it was oxtail stuffed in a pasta shell but didn't really stand out to me - abuelitas meatballs: sauce reminded me a lot of beefy stock of beef bourguignon sauce, the meat balls were tender and great with the sauce - april special calamari: not really different from other calamari I've had, didn't really taste anything different, it was crunchy and not too oily which was nice main- -pulpo à la brasa: octopus is super tender and paired with a creamy sauce, but not really a standout imo compared to other dishes paellas each came with lemon and side of cream to add to your liking- - paella negra con vieras: extremely creamy squid ink paella, seafood is fresh and this was my favorite - normal paella no squid ink - same as above - paella campestre: this was a slightly less creamy paella with a slight tomatoey flavor with juicy pork belly and chicken overall the paellas were sufficiently creamy and tasty with a variety of meats, they also came out ~20 min rather than the 35 minutes wait time they specified desserts- - tiramisu de melindro: big portion, circular piece of tiramisu in a cup, very creamy, breading is slightly moist, not too sweet - saquets de crema: a few pieces of tasty fried pastry filled with gooey chocolate and cream inside - gorgonzola cheesecake: they put a lot of raspberry puree on top, it wasn't super super cheesy, I think the raspberry puree kind of overpowered the cheesecake but it was still pretty good would come back~

What a pleasant surprise! We were genuinely wondering how we hadn't discovered Macarena sooner…read more The restaurant is beautiful--the interior design, atmosphere, and overall vibe immediately make you feel like you're stepping into a charming Spanish restaurant. More importantly, the food is incredibly authentic. We ordered the jamón, oxtail, and octopus appetizers, and they were very close to what we had during our trip to Spain. But the real star of the night was the paella. OMG. It was SO good. We ordered the squid ink paella with scallops, and it was absolutely outstanding--perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and easily one of the best paellas we've had in the Bay Area. Looking around, the other paellas coming out of the kitchen looked amazing as well. The special suckling pig did not disappoint either. The skin was extra crispy while the meat remained juicy and flavorful. Drinks were also on point, and the tableside sangria experience added a fun touch. What made the night memorable, though, was not just the food--it was the service and the restaurant's commitment to taking care of their guests. Our server, Alma (hopefully I got her name right), was incredibly attentive and offered excellent recommendations throughout the meal. As the restaurant became busier, it was clear she was juggling many tables, and we ended up waiting a bit to get our leftovers boxed and later to receive a dessert menu. Before we even had to say anything, both Alma and the manager noticed the delay. They came over to apologize and even treated us to a complimentary key lime pie. Honestly, that wasn't what we expected or were looking for, but it spoke volumes about the restaurant's culture and their genuine desire to make things right whenever something falls short. Great food is one thing. Great hospitality is another. Macarena delivered both, and we'll definitely be back

Wish there was a tiny bit more seafood but it was fresh and served on the hot plate which kept the food warm throughout the meal. Also tried the chicken karaage and veggie tempura. Flavor of the chicken was great but it was a bit chewy. It said it would take 20-30 min for the okonomiyaki but it felt like the food came out much quicker than that. Rokko offers a huge Izakaya style menu including sushi and meshi, and Fugestsu offers okonomiyaki aka Japanese pizza / latkes. - While the Izakaya style offerings were great, the okonomiyaki was fantastic! I hadn't had it for a couple years, and I'd forgotten how magical it is. Came here in a group and did a family style order including the okonomiyaki "sampler." The four items in the sampler were the first four items completely eaten by our group! Maybe all okonomiyaki is this good and I'd just forgotten. Or maybe Fugetsu is really special. Actually it's special no matter what because even if you're the only okonomiyaki lover in your group, your dining companions can order from the giant Rokko menu with all its other stuff. I'll be back.

The combination of meat, veggies and the exterior crispy pancake created such an outstanding tasting effect. The lamb dish had one of the most tender meats I've tasted. The brown sugar sticky rice cake was soft inside and hard outside; with just the right amount of sweetness. Service was ok. They should've been kinder and more grateful. I liked how they have a sign posted on window saying that gratuity is at free will and you don't pay for the wrong dish they send to you. It showed accountability. That's why we keep coming back, for now.

There was no line for us to be seated. I was able to flag down a server to seat us since they seem to be extremely busy cleaning tables and servicing others. The hotpots are full of ingredients and the broth has always been tasty. Unfortunately, the meats seem to be overcooked. Prices have been going up over the years where only the monthly special is enticing for the value. Servers were friendly and checked in on us, but it took 25 minutes for our food to show up at our table after we ordered. The only consistent experience I've had are the oranges at the end of the meal. They are always amazingly sweet, juicy, and comes off the peel easily. I don't usually enjoy oranges, but I love the ones HomeEat offers! Will be back if in the area, but hope kitchen service will be quicker in the future.
