Just stopped by Cost Plus in Larkspur to do an errand. I hadn't been in the store for a long time, and I was surprised. In a good way. The store has interesting merchandise - lots of things that I would like for my home. And I already have enough stuff. How fun it would be as a first time home owner or new apartment dweller who needed furniture, curtains, dish ware, etc. Also, the store was organized beautifully. Granted I was here mid-day and mid-week, rather than on a weekend. But the store was vert tidy and well staffed. I enjoyed my visit. read more

I just purchased the Pad Thai Noodles Cooking by DeSiam (http://www.desiam.com) set from Cost Plus Market in Marin County, California and it's one of the worst food products I ever attempted to eat. The noodles soaked for over 45-minutes, as instructed and they were hard as rock, never getting soft. The sauce was terrible. $20 in fresh wild salmon was wasted, along with over an hour trying to make this product slightly edible. Does Cost Plus World Market even make the attempt to evaluate the products they sell? Wow, this was the worst of the worst and I will not be experimenting with any other unknown food products from Cost Plus World Market ever again. read more

Better come in here with a budget planned. There are so many delightful gadgets and knickknacks that I easily get bedazzled by all the glitter and shine. My cart goes from empty to full in a few minutes (thus why I only allow myself to have a handcart here). Whether it's a score found in their clearance sections (picked up a great, woven purse for three bucks!) or a restocking of my exotic spices and teas, I am happy with whatever I purchase here. Today, I even walked away with some Day of the Dead figurines and decorations for 90% off! Of course I balanced these bargains with spending my dough on a new scarf, a bottle of wine, and a wooden salad bowl. I was appalled at the register checking out today when I was asked to give my birthdate outloud to the cashier named Sara Boston. I shook my head no. She said did I not want to purchase the two bottles of wine and the other two items and I said yes I did. I proceeded to show her my identification instead of stating my age out loud. She embarrassed me by questioning my desire to buy the wine and then further humiliated me by blurting out my birthdate for everyone to hear. This I believe is private information and I did felt embarrassed and appalled. I asked her to let me speak to her manager as she did not see any problem with what she had done. She did not go and get her supervisor. I had to find the Lead Supervisor, Joey Becker. Joey further escalated the rudeness by telling me that it was California Law. I repeated that I provided my ID and she rudely told me that she herself was not embarrassed by her age. I received no kindness, no apology, no acknowledtgement. I am 62 YEARS OLD! I was with a friend from Europe and there was no need for the abuse and public disclosure of my age!!!!!!! Obviously I am not under 21 years of age. Please everyone take care to keep your personal information private. I will be writing to headquarters about this event. I have been shopping here for 40 years. There is no California Law that states you must have your age told to everyone around you. I feel disrespected and disgusted. read more

Worst! Customer! Service! Ever! I have been working in the service industry for over twenty years and I have have never been so appalled by the straight up hostility, rudeness and lack of giving any effort or time. I have been in twice before: once to purchase a lampshade and the second time to exchange the lamp shade. The third time was to exchange for a different size lamp shade( I was having troubles getting the right fit.-Shame on me!) So, I hand Javier the lampshade and the receipt. He says " You have already exchanged this before!" Note: no " hi how are you?" Straight 0-60 douchiness! I said, " Yes I have had trouble finding the right size." He says "We don't even have this lampshade!" I said "Uh- yeah you do. I have come in twice" He says " I am calling my manager!" Manager"Yeah we have that lampshade" ( Note: Manager never comes to me to ask what is going on.) Now Javier says " You don't have a sku # on the reciept!" I am thinking, " I don't work here, why is that my problem for not including the sku # on last receipt. " The last cashier had taken the last receipt. I just wanted to exchange the stupid lampshade NOT get a refund. Javier keeps repeating "There isn't a sku # on receipt" I immediately left the sku-less receipt and lampshade on the counter and walked out muttering to him to shove it! read more

I have a horrible experience on the phone w/ George..I called to check it they have the large Capiz Shell Chandelier in the store, George answer the phone sound very rude and put me on hold saying that he was with other costumer so I said ok i can wait...few mins later I got disconnected so I called again. Then then George said yes we have about 3 and its about $70 he was rushing still (did not even apologize for hanging up with me)I told him it was on sale online for $55 and ask if its the same, he replied by saying not that I am aware of it?? ( He did not bother to check) And ask me if theres anything else he can do for me....Hello I called for a reason,I want to buy the item, I am unable to got to the store bec my car is in the shop and I asked him if I can buy it thru the phone and said that we cannot do that...and hang up on me. Well, where do I start. Here we go....we walked into this Cost Plus store, here in Marin County thinking that this store must be top notch due to being in this location. We have been to several other stores in California, San Diego, Walnut Creek, Concord, Oakland, LaJolla to name a few. Mostly to get gift baskets for our clients. We have nothing but gift basketing success with the Cost Plus stores we have been to when we purchase items for our many different size baskets. They all were very professional, friendly and made sure, before sealing the wrapper, that all looked great and in order to our needs. Unfortunately, this store in Marin County has no management skills on who they hire. Right when we got to the register, the was no greeting and it seemed like they were trying to rush us out or something just because it was :30 minutes to close. Two of the employees working at the register had sour-puss faces and when we asked if I can have these two baskets put together, one of the employees sighed and made a phone call to somebody and said that she has never done a basket wrap before and didn't know what to do. I am not sure what was said on the other line, but that didn't do much help. Before I knew it, the employee just started piling the items in the basket, like as if it were a grocery bag. The bottles and glassware were bunched together and the chocolate was in the back of the bigger items, that you could not even see, at all. I had to stop her from doing whatever she was doing. Then I started to do it and realized, what in the world am I doing? I did not come here to work! Don't these employees get paid to do this? I am doing their work for them as she didn't say a thing and was just watching me...I mean..really? Come on now! Another employee came to help because the line was getting longer. The person that attempted to wrap was Melissa. She brought the baskets to another register and started doing the same thing, just piling my items in the basket as if there was not a care in the world about her job. She said nothing to me and just had a scowl on her face. I had to assist her in wrapping my basket. I asked both of them, if anyone at that store has been trained in wrapping baskets there and they simultaneously said "No". I told them that all the other stores had trained employees that took charge of wrapping their baskets and they said nothing and shrugged their shoulders. The other employee just turned and walked away. I asked Melissa who their manager was and she said Maryann. I was very upset and disappointed at the same time, thinking how excited I was to co.e to this store and shop, since I love the area. Extremely disappointed. I had to place one star here to make a comment. In my background, I come from a high level of customer service and this place seemed like there was and is no customer service whatsoever. Hopefully this store or their corporate office reads this Yelp comments and changes things around, even replaces their employees if need be. Again, very disappointed. read more

I fell in love with two chairs online, but wanted to see them in person and sit in them before committing to buy them. I ended up coming on a really rainy day to test them out and purchase them. Patty was a huge help in ringing me up and holding the chairs for me while I got my truck. Tito was such a gentleman. He plastic wrapped the chairs (so they wouldn't get wet in the pick-up) and helped me secure them on my truck. Now, that's service! He went way above and beyond and I appreciate it! read more

I lost my Very expensive Rx Sun Glasses in this store about a month ago. I return to the store several times....hoping they would show up. On my 4th attempt at trying to find them a young, very TALL gentlemen (he usually only works nights. ) was so kind and spent at least 15-20 minutes looking and to my surprise and delight he discovered them. Well it's been a long time Cost Plus but I am afraid we are through. I started at the North Point store in the early years. To shop there was an adventure and it was just what I wanted. Exotic things that you couldn't find anywhere else. There might be a bin of tropical sea shells or of African tribal spears. You just never knew what you were going to find and it made it fun to look. Now I'm afraid you have become bland corporate vanilla with home decor products you can find many places, not just at your store. I used to buy wines at your store but found other less expensive places for that. I used to put together half a dozen Easter baskets from all of the candies and supplies you had stocked at Easter each year. I came in at Easter during the economic downturn and found nothing I needed for the baskets, almost like you had eliminated that holiday stock. I found another store for that too and now you have lost that business. Finally I came in to assemble my Christmas bags for staff this year and even earlier than in the past. You shouldn't have such a poor selection so early. I always get six identical ornaments each year and could not find six matching so I bought 4 + 2 at $14 each. Some other customer said you had a sale on the weekend and that is why nothing was left. It was a dismal selection. I buy the bags and candy to go in the bags. The chocolate oranges in the box are always a favorite and unusual but of course they were no longer there. Anyway for six bags I spent $250. I should have left without buying anything but this year I needed to get this task done so put up the large amount to check this off the list. There was some confusion as I approached the register since there is now an isle for a line to form which looks like an aisle of merchandise- which it is. Another way to sell more overpriced stuff to those who are waiting for the inadequate number of checkers. So corporate chain Cost Plus- you have taken something beautiful and eliminated every reason for me to shop there. Goodbye. read more

I just spend way too much money when I enter this store. They had a great sale on furniture over the past weekend, and I took advantage since my apartment was pretty bare. Beside the neat (pretty much completely solid wood) furniture scattered throughout the shop, Cost Plus is always an adventure to wander through. From their unique and specialty item foods, to their culinary accessories, to their huge wine selection, to their home accessories, there really is no place like it. If you haven't been inside one, I suggest checking them out. This particular location has a bunch of quite helpful and friendly staff. One team member gave us a coupon for 25% off when they didn't have something we wanted. That gave us 25% off of our entire purchase using the coupon, from whatever the floor price was (so if it was already on sale, we got 25% off the sale price). I was looking for a stool that I had seen at the Daly City store. I didn't take the one in DC because they only had the floor model and I didn't know whose feet had been on it. Gina and Shan were so helpful. The employees at this store are seriously delightful. I only work a mile away and Shan asked if he could have some time to go look for the stool in the back. He called me in a short amount of time and had found it so I stopped in after work to pick it up. I love what the store is offering, but the employees really make the experience. We are new to this area and I can only say that shopping here is an extremely pleasant experience. It is spacious, friendly customer service personnel, good selection and prices. We've only visited twice but ended up spending several hundred dollars on various items - area rugs, tea light lanterns, towels just to name a few. I haven't yet browsed through the food/wine section but it is on my to do list for next time. I am a regular Cost Plus shopper and this store is the best! Clean and easy to find things not found in other stores. Once again they helped me find exactly what I was looking for. The patio furniture is comparable to higher end stores with better prices. I love cost plus so much! I absolutely love Japanese candy, so I went there to check out their selection, and it was HUGE! They had an entire showcase just for all the Asian candies, and they even had a Japanese sodie pop, which I can't get a enough of! Don't hesitate to get it! Go there! The bad reviews you see all have one thing in common: they couldn't find some crazy item no other store would have either! Don't make assumptions! And don't go there looking for some crazy item such as a lamp made out of elephant skin! It's a store that sells world imports, like as I said, candy! Yes they sell lovely wooden chests and lamps and llamas made of twine! Don't listen to the bad reviews! Amazing amazing amazing service, and everyone is so amazing and nice, not to mention the fact that they have great prices! Got 6 Japanese sodas for only 10 bucks with an amazing coupon. This review is about my experience today with John, who works in the furniture department at this World Market. Overall, this World Market is a typical Cost Plus. Same items, etc. as all of their stores. But those other stores don't have John! I came in looking for some dining room chairs that were on a super-sale on the website, just to try it out before I ordered them on line. Only one out on the floor, because the style is being discontinued. And alas, sold out on line. So, I left the store. But John called me back in, got on the computer to find the inventory at other Bay Area stores, and then called one of the stores where he knew a sale associate to physically make sure the chairs were there. Great customer support and service. I'm thinking how I'll get over to Oakland to get said chairs when John volunteers: "I'm over there anyway, so let me pick them up and bring them here to Greenbrae for you. If you want me to give you a call when they arrive, share your cell phone number and I'll call you." WHAT? Amazing! And so it happened. This wonderful, generous man gets those chairs into his car and brings them to Marin, puts them on hold in the back of the store and then, tries to call me to let me know the chairs are there. Of course, my cell phone battery had died and he couldn't get in touch with me. When I figured that out, I came into the store just to check to see if the chairs were there. John was on his lunch break, so another gentleman helped me (sorry I didn't catch his name!). We're loading the chairs when John arrives off his lunch break to help me load them up, along with another friendly sale associate. Wow. Like I said, way above the call of duty and the confines of the job. Thanks, John. You're a gem! read more
