We have had an exceptional experience with Worthy Dog. This is my 3rd rescue, 3rd organization and without a doubt they are the most thorough and put their dogs first. Everyone that I have dealt with, from interview process, to home inspection, Suzanne, adoption coordinator, and finally the foster has been responsive, knowledgeable, friendly and again...all placing the dogs needs first. Even if we had not been approved to adopt Oliver I knew with 100% certainty that it would have been because they found another home that would have allowed Oliver to thrive and live his absolutely best life. Without hesitation I will recommend and work ONLY with Worthy Dog in the future. Should have read earlier reviews. Bad communication, definitely anything they say is a "nice to have" is actually a mandatory thing. Everything they have gives off an aura that we should be lucky to be considered to even meet a dog, let alone adopt one. Very disappointed with the multiple experiences I had trying to apply and how some of their rules/expectations change throughout the process. read more

The "stories" behind these animals, border on ridicules...and every single dog they offer has one. We went through their adoption "process"...and were led to believe we had a pup coming....only to find that it's foster person was taking it, after our waiting three weeks. We were very disappointed, and felt like we should have been made aware that this would be a possibility. I have worked with several rescues as both an adopter and a foster and I can tell you that Worthy Dog is absolutely the best. While some rescues are most interested in the quantity of dogs they can rehome, Worthy Dog focuses on quality. Quality in the adopters they approve in order to ensure the dogs in their charge go on to live their best lives and quality in the support they provide to their foster families and adopters. While I often see other rescues having a dog come back through because they adopted out it to a home that wasn't appropriate, I have never seen that happen with Worthy Dog. They screen thoroughly and carefully because many of their dogs have come from difficult situations and their goal is to place them permanently so they find stability. They get to know their dogs well through their committed foster families so they can give a full picture of any issues the dog is having so adopters know what to expect. When our foster dog showed resource-guarding issues due to previously being starved, Worthy Dog brought in a trainer to work with him (and us) one-on-one to safely address the problem. He had recurring ear infections and skin problems and they paid a great deal of money for his veterinary care to ensure he was healthy before his adoption became final. Even when we were prepared to commit to the adoption, the rescue encouraged us to take extra time to get to know our dog to be certain we would be able to handle his special needs. They spare no expense in support of their dogs finding happy homes. I suspect that some of the folks who have written unfavorable reviews may not have been comfortable with the thoroughness of the vetting process, but Worthy Dog's mission is to be sure that the dog is matched with the very best home and sometimes that means turning people away who would not be a good fit. There are plenty of rescues out there who just want to move as many dogs into as many homes as possible. But if you want a rescue that takes the time to know the dogs, learn their needs, and then find the very best homes for them--Worthy Dog is for you! read more

Phenomenal experience! So detailed, every person we interacted with was very familiar with our application and the dog we wanted to adopt. They also shared a lot of information throughout the process, were helpful, and extremely thorough. I trust them and would work with them again. Even in DC/VA/MD's very competitive adoption area, Worthy Dog Rescue was one of the more frustrating experiences I have had. While the phone interviewer and at-home visit volunteer were helpful and competent, communication and transparency on all fronts were lacking. After being told we were one of the applicants being considered, we never heard anything back either way: no timeline on when to potentially prepare for the dog, no final decision or clarity. We only discovered we were not selected when checking the dog's page days later to see it updated with additional home/family preferences not previously mentioned to us as requirements. They encourage you to apply for other animals, which we did, and again were not selected because of lifestyle preferences that were listed as 'would be nice tos' as opposed to requirements. Would highly recommend adopters go to a Humane Society or county/city animal shelter to find their pets instead of looking to an organization like this one. They are more transparent, less arbitrary, and genuinely prioritize placing animals as opposed to making their volunteers and fosters feel good. read more

This is a very serious organization that places the dogs' well-being first. I actually believe they perform miracles by rescuing so many at-risk dogs, including out of state, so fast, always making sure that they truly find a healthy, safe, and stable environment for their forever home. I highly do not reccomend surrendering nor adopting from here. They are not a serious rescue. I waited over a month to see if I had been accepted to the org. By then, I saw another dog I liked and really didn't want to complete the 1.5h survey again to apply, so I reached out and asked if my previous application would be considered or rejected. When I asked, I was mocked for even asking! Their email was totally unprofessional behavior. I'd understand if I'd asked only a week later, but their response was inappropriate to say the least after over a month. read more

I was interested in a dog that was posted on their website, but by the time I did an application and went through the interview process, the dog that I wanted was already adopted. It seemed to me that my experience was typical because after that, every time I saw a dog that I was interested in, it was already adopted. They seemed to have a kind of attitude about my wanting a certain dog rather than any dog. After my experience with them, I almost think it would be easier to adopt a baby. read more

We have had our Lily a little over four months now and she brings us joy on a daily basis! She came to us through the unselfish efforts of Worthy Dog Rescue. I felt that Worthy Dog Rescue vets its applicants thoroughly so each pup gets its best forever home. One rescue we had contacted, after looking at pages and pages of their adorable puppies, just sent info to bring $400 cash and go to such and such chain pet store on Saturday. Almost all their dogs were puppies - a red flag raiser for sure!! Worthy Dog, after submitting an application, contacted us for a phone interview, conducted a house visit, and we went to meet our pup at their foster's. Everyone we met or spoke to was wonderful! And we recommend this rescue highly! read more

We are currently in a search for a second dog, and although we have not been completely through the adoption process, I can tell you with certainty that this rescue is legitimate and caring. We put in our adoption application, and within several days we were notified by email that the application had been reviewed and that they would like to arrange a phone interview, which happened that very day that I replied. The second step was that due to COVID, we would have a virtual home inspection, which we completed by having a conversation with one of their volunteers via FaceTime. It was a really nice experience, and the people I have dealt with have been fabulous. Our next step is to be approved for a meeting, which we hope will happen and will go well. But if not, we appreciate the effort being made here to protect the dogs and the people who are adopting in the long run. It is evident that this rescue is careful about placing in the very best situation for that particular dog, because they are thorough and careful. If you are looking for a quick adoption (it's hard to be patient, I get it) then this is not where you will find it. I am impressed with their diligence and their all volunteer staff, who make every effort to find wonderful homes for these deserving dogs who have seen some tough times. read more

Scam Scam Scam .....that's how we felt treated after dealing with this group!!! I wish we would have found the reviews on yelp before we started our long and eventually heartbroken process of dealing with these people.From the (We surmise )operator of this rescue to the deceiving so called foster parents of the pet we inquired about, we just felt frustrated with the whole deal,about the only legitimate contact we had was with the volunteer phone interviewer. We could go on and on but by now after reading most of the other reviews you get the picture. I will however offer one more piece of advice.....do your homework on rescue / adoption services as they are not regulated and therefore may not be above board.....feel sorry for the pets.... read more

We were looking for a dog to rescue & came across one of great interest. Submitted an application, phone interview within a week, however, it went downhill from there. The home visit was rescheduled three times-one of which I had to contact the WDR rep. to confirm they'd show up (canceled). After all the delays (aprx 1 month), the dog of interest was adopted. I noted that DAYS before (it was listed as 'adopted' on their site) I was advised by WDR. Others are of interest, but in the end it isn't worth it to me. There are other rescues that follow the same procedures that aren't so unpredictable. Luckily, I came across another adoption agency and was finalized within 2 days. We had a very positive experience and adoption through Worthy Dog. Many other adoption groups didn't return our calls or took forever to get back to us. Worthy Dog was great communicated with us throughout the whole process. It was clear that they were very interested in the best fit for us and for all of the dogs. I tried to inquire about a dog and ask a a question which was NOT answered on the website that I found myself. I was treated very rudely like just another number, but no, I'm a customer. I'm how they make money. The way they treat people is part of the reason people SHOP and DON'T adopt. There are many nicer animal "rescues" out there.... read more

Don't waste your time with this rescue. Absolutely WORTHLESS. You submit an application and they don't even bother to contact you. And they wonder why people go to breeders to buy a dog. They deserve an F for their complete lack of customer service. read more
