She is in a lot of pain so I just wanted her out of pain no matter what medication she needed just get her comfortable. I had one director come in to assess her, then assigned a nurse and lvn once a week to take her vitals and monitor her care. From day one over a month ago my mom doesn't sleep maybe more than 30 minutes at a time two or three times a day because she is only 66 and very anxious about dying and leaving me and my sister behind which is understandable. When I had a crisis and she was in excruciating pain I would call them and they would just keep telling me to up her morphine until I had to actually give it to her every hour. When I asked for help in giving her something that would help her pain for longer than an hour so we could both get some sleep they gave her ambien which didn't do anything for her pain just made her drowsy. My mom already had a high tolerance against hydrocodone because she had been taking it over a year since her first surgery, so that was just like giving her a shot of tequila. When I started asking for help because I had no sleep in days they said find a caregiver to help and it's about 20.00 an hour. I did not want to place my mom's medication of morphine, hydrocodine,Ambien, Xanax, and fentanyl patch in the hands of a non licensed stranger they said well that's why you are off of work on fmla to care for your mom we can't give her 24 hr care because she is still up walking around! The nurse Valerie actually argued with me for an hour when I told her my mom needs me to be there 24/7 because if she misses a dose she ends up in lots of pain and then really can't think straight to give her self proper meds and she fell twice. She was only authorizing 2 days a week for 3 hours when I asked them to sign my fmla paperwork, she only met my mom once on the very first couple of days I put her in hospice and never offered to stay for another day to see the care she needed. Dr came to see her no hello ,no introduction. Wanted to know why i was giving her a lot of morphine and they were only bringing me tiny bottles every two days so they put her on hydro morphone because he said the rose pharmacy was complaining they were running out of morphine!! Are you kidding me! I even had to put on a new higher dose 100mcg fentanyl patch when it came on my own and start giving her this other medication I knew nothing about which got my mom sick. I finally found real help that came down right away assessed my mom put her on a new medication routine with morphine that was working and gave me 24 hr nurses to help to monitor her for 4 days to make sure it was working and she was comfortable and told me to get some sleep. I have fired this company and all they cared about was picking up their paperwork and doing a medicine count. They also tried to get my mom to sign a revocation form taking her off of hospice care when all i was doing was transferring her not discontinuing her. They did not pick up their bed and supplies the same day as they said they would now my mom has two hospital beds in her small living room! I am so thankful for Brookdale hospice my mom isn't in pain and I actually got help in learning how to give her all these meds at the best times and intervals when I was just guessing before and afraid I was going to make her sick or overdose her. If they spent as much time combating negative reviews by their customers and fabricating disinformation as they do on patient care, maybe they wouldn't have so many one-star reviews to begin with. "The initial plan of care, updated plans of care, initial assessment, comprehensive assessment, updated comprehensive assessments and clinical notes - This STANDARD is NOT MET as evidenced by: Based on record review and staff interviews, the hospice failed to ensure completion of clinical record to reflect the family member's concern regarding a change in the patient's condition. This failure created the potential for not having the patient's current condition to provide necessary care and services for the patients. " "Signed copies of the notice of patient rights in accordance with Section 418.52 and election statement in accordance with Section 418.24 - This STANDARD is NOT MET as evidenced by: Based on staff interview and record review, the hospice failed to ensure the written addendum showing diagnoses and non-covered items was completed with the actual date completed/provided to the patient/family member... This failure had the potential for not having an accurate information on the patient's clinical record." A simple phone call or email to the grieving family with an apology would have been a good start, and yet they are incapable of admitting their shortcomings and chose to fabricate results of the findings.
