Southern fried chicken sandwich, sweet potato fries and extra ranch
Jaclyn N.

Service was really slow and minimally attentive- but they can be because it's the only restaurant in the airport. Both bartenders were on their personal cell phones the whole time and customers were second priority, even if they were both kind. The food was great for airport dining- and kudos to the chef who came and delivered everyone's food himself. My advice- until they fix the service attitude, eat before the airport if you can. I couldn't due to work.

the sign above the counter

It's an airport restaurant (grill), and possibly the only one in the entire airport. They offered a plant based burger option which I was grateful for . The folks behind the counter were super nice and they cooked my order fresh rite after I placed it. The sweet potato waffle fries were great. This is a 3 stars for food itself, the waffle fries maybe bumping it up to 3.5 stars. However, the staff was super friendly, there was lots of roomy spots to sit, the plant based burger option, and I could literally see my gate from my booth. This all made my pre-flight meal a great experience.

Chicken tenders, sweet potato fries
Denise W.

I had the chicken tenders and sweet potato fries. Chicken tenders were amazing! They were big, fresh battered and fresh fried with great seasoning. Fries were standard sweet potato waffle fries, fried fresh when I ordered. I would eat here again for sure. I'd probably only order 2 tenders instead of 3. Better than any fast food place and the staff was friendly and accommodating.

There aren't a lot of options at BTR and WOW Cafe is one of the only places to grab a bite or get something to drink. It never seems busy here, presumably because the airport is already laid back people traffic wise, but more likely because the place is lackluster as can be. The food is so mediocre that I wouldn't want to focus on ordering anything at all. Temptation got the best of me many times and I've tried more here than I'd like to personally admit. The infamous chicken biscuit is really dry and unmemorable, which is also how I'd describe most of the breakfast items. Don't shoot for the quesadillas or burgers. It's going to be a really long flight. I thought the last time I was there that I could shoot for something healthier, like their salads and / or wraps. Went for a Covington and Kentucky Club salad and was underwhelmed. Given the already spendy airport price tags, I don't think I could be more disappointed. As if it couldn't get any worse, the staff here is so inept that the wait times can get a little too long here. I've nearly missed at least two flights after waiting breakfast items. They're not exceptionally bright or friendly, which is a huge damper, since I really do believe in southern hospitality but none of that exists here. On a positive note, the place is spacious enough to accommodate all sorts of travelers. There is a lot of seating and room for things like luggage and big parties. It's not always the most well kept (sticky tables, random crawlers in dark corners, crumbs on the floor, etc.), so keep the expectations low. Lastly, they serve PJ's coffee, a New Orleans staple. That alone makes this place 2 stars instead of 1.

Sausage, buttery bread with rice & beans

Decides to order here as I was flying out and the service was pretty quick. The sausage and bread was good! I didn't care for the rice and beans, tasted bland.

Buffalo chicken roll-up

Recently opened business at the airport. I'm not sure if it can be accessed before going through security. Great selection of snacks and little sliders to take on the plane. I had the Buffalo chicken roll-up with hot sauce #2 and hot sauce XIII on the side. Very good! The XIII hot sauce is pretty F'n hot! Cayenne pepper. Quick, friendly service. I'll eat again when I'm at BTR.

I ordered the Texas burger and it was just ok. The cheese on the burger was shredded cheese so it was a mess everywhere, the lettuce was awkwardly big but the bread was soft. Let's just say I'll never order a burger again. The customer is great which is why I gave the 3 stars but the food should be better especially since it's airport prices. I paid 10 dollars just for the burger.. You may want to wait until you get to your final destination.

Breakfast burrito
Kiara M.

GREAT customer service! Simple menu, but a variety of options. I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was really good! I will definitely eat here again since it's the only place to eat in the airport.

Garbage!!! That's 2 orders for $19!!!

The food was really good and the staff was very nice. I found the price and portion size to be good enough for both my wife and I to enjoy.

Unenthusiastic service. Food is likely microwaved in the back. Smells like burnt grease.

It's Simple as the name suggests…read more Nothing fancy or elaborate about this place. It's a small restaurant with a small open kitchen and a small dining room where you stand in line to place your order, get a number to put on your table, and servers bring the food to your table when it's ready. So, if you're looking for a large upscale, elegant restaurant with elaborate food presentations, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a simple, quick and delicious meal, Simple Joe Café is for you. The menu consists of a wide variety of breakfast favorites, but the menu is not intimidating and easy to read and order from. Simple enough. When my family and I arrived, the small dining room was packed with a few open tables and about six other customers in line waiting to place their order. On Saturday and Sunday, you cannot sit at the open tables or hold the tables until you have placed your order and given a tent number. At that point, the servers will help you find a table to accommodate your party. The employees do a very good job of clearing and turning over the tables to make sure everyone is seated and able to enjoy their meal in a timely manner. I am not a fan of breakfast food and normally don't eat breakfast, so I only had coffee while my family enjoyed their meal, so the food quality part of this review is based on what they described as they were eating. They each ordered Joe's Number One Breakfast Combos which came with two eggs, choice of meat and pancakes and they shared an order of hashbrown and a side of grits. The food came out quickly. They stated everything was fresh, prepared and cooked as requested, the food tasted very good and enjoyed every bite. Of course, the coffee was hot, and fresh and the service was fast and friendly. The relaxed ambience and decor add to the unique character of the restaurant. Date of Visit: Saturday 05-16-26 Simple Joe Café | 3057 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA

This place is awesome…read more I ended up here the other day not because I planned ahead. Instead, I was trying to meet a friend for lunch and he was so late that we couldn't get in where were trying to go. I saw the sign and off we went to Simple Joe Cafe. Simple, it is. Awesome food, it also is. This place is not fancy nor is it meant to be. This is a solidly Americana type menu and ordering at the counter, serving your own coffee, and picking your own table kind of place. AKA - the kind of place I love. I have been here a few times now and only had breakfast. Hint: they serve it all day. The two meat omelet is a great choice and has been my go-to. The other day some friends got burgers and a club sandwich and those looked great too. This will definitely be in the rotation for lunch.

The food prices were very affordable too, which is a huge plus in this economy. The space was cozy and charming, almost like dining inside an antique shop. Overall, a great experience, and I can't wait to come back and try more items on the menu.

But one thing that is more true than the Bermuda triangle is the Baton Rouge Bridge Crossing traffic back up. It's like as inevitable and predictable as anything can be and I am getting to enjoy it firsthand today. Always a traffic accident always a lane closure. Now usually I do the farm market Road north of Baton Rouge to avoid it but today I needed to go this way. The I-10/I-12/110 Triangle maybe? And I knew that my first stop would be French Truck location. I wanted coffee for the rest of my trip as I am traveling with my brewing equipment. I sampled their Festin, and their single source, Kenya, and Ethiopia and I decided to get a bag of the Ethiopia because it has that profound blueberry flavor profile that I like in small doses, thinking it was be a perfect coffee to share with my friends in Florida. And now on to lunch at Mestizo. A wonderful staff and ambiance. Great coffee shop music. I will bet that if I waited long enough, Tame Impala would come on the sound system. Lol.

Despite not being a big coffee enthusiast, I have come to appreciate all they've brought to the table as a serious coffee destination. As a venue, it's a beautiful spot with a good amount of outdoor and indoor seating. Their creative use of branding with lots of yellow, distinctive fonts, and merch are displayed throughout the store, becoming a central theme of their decor. Coupled with natural lighting, plenty of seating, good WiFi and a cool display of their brewing process, it's evident they've taken big steps to ensure their venue is one of the least ordinary establishments in the city. They honed their craft in New Orleans and have managed to do the same here. Their New Orleans iced coffee was dark and potent, while their Japanese slow drip aka Oji drip iced coffee was pleasantly delightful. The cafe au lait is classic and a nice rendition compared to the many places that do the same throughout the state. The macchiato, cappuccinos, and americanos also deserve their own mention. Like any quality coffee place, they sell all kinds of different coffee brews by the bag both online and in store. They also sell food as well ranging from breakfast items to salads and sandwiches. Avocado toast seems to be a big hit here, but they have a wide range of open-faced toasts that includes smoked salmon, pimento and prosciutto. I am definitely eyeing their croissant sandwich for future visit. Prices are standard foodflation but I think the coffee and the ambiance will always be the central focus. They have a good amount of people on staff and therefore the waits are never too long. Customer services on point and the bathrooms are very clean. Parking is available in the back and there is limited street parking as well. With locations in Memphis as well as the OG in New Orleans, they should be very proud that they've done well in Baton Rouge.
