RAIN - Rescuing Animals in Need

After reading reviews, I'm glad this interaction happened and I walked away without adopting. This…read moreplay clearly doesn't actually care about the "animals in need" and is only after money. I heard there were cat/kitten adoptions at Petsmart today so decided to stop in and see who was available for adoption! There were a few cages set up with cats and one with a few kittens. The foster with the kittens was friendly and started answering basic questions about the kittens but the actual rescue employees sat in the back corner avoiding everyone. Should have been red flag number one. I tried to ask about the cats in the windows (the ones always at Petsmart) he was stand off ish about it so I just went and looked through the glass. Then the guy (employee that actually does adoptions) went on break and left the foster alone. Lots of rescues and shelters either offer military/veteran discounts or offer a program called Pets4Vets. My husband is a veteran so when the guy came back we decided to ask if they do anything like that. He was immediately rude, scoffed at me and said "Not when I pay $260 to process each one and sell them for $175."First off, if you don't want to offer a discount that is completely your prerogative and it's everyone else's prerogative to ask if you offer one. Why is that so offensive to ask?! Secondly, you could have just politely said "No, we don't offer any discounts" and that would've been fine! I was so flabbergasted by his attitude that I just said "Ya know what, that was super off putting, I actually don't want your cats." And walked away. I got back to the car to look up this rescue because I'd never heard of them and there's no way regular rescues would treat possible adopters that way! I see that they have the worst reviews for adopting out SICK cats!!! Review after review about people spending thousands on vet bills after adopting from them on every platform. Please do NOT adopt from RAIN. They do NOT care about their animals or who adopts them. They just want money! Take your money to one of the MANY other rescues or shelters available in the valley and stop this "rescue" completely. They don't deserve to save animals.

You can tell how much they care about the dogs they have there!! They also wanted updates on him and how he was settling in and it was just all around an awesome experience and we absolutely LOVE our new dog!! He is such a sweetie pie and exactly how they described him. I got a like 8 page meticulous medical report on him and his health because he was part of a group of dogs they got from an overcrowded home and quite a few were sick when they got them. It was such a great experience and when we are ready to get another dog, we will absolutely be back! Couldn't recommend this rescue more!!!

My experience adopting a 9 or old shih-tzu has soured me on evercadopting another pet. I later…read morelearned just shortly after adopting her for $400 that she was actually much older than nine years. Two vets estimated her age to be 12 to 14 years old. We found out she couldn't see much at all. Thiscrescue had to know this information already. There was no mention at all about her health. I believe the foster knew too. The foster told us she felt this shih-tzu was much older!! Bottom line, I would not have adopted her if I knew she was much older than nine. $400 to get her at the end of her life. Sad. I love dogs and am giving her the best end of life years I can. But this experience with AZ small dog rescue was like a switch and bait, thought I was adopting a 9 or old with some decent years left. Instead, she is much older, blind and not healthy. These rescue places need to be more honest in their advertising.

The event was a bit chaotic in knowing how to fill out what to get to meet a dog but it all worked out. We were shocked novody else was interested in this sweet boy and his foster eas very kind and informative to help us make sure he was a good fit for our home. They were also very patient with us running around to grab supplies. While the adoption fee is a bit higher than some rescues there is a tax break and it's nice that majority if the shots were paid and planned along with the neutering. Andy came home healthy with us and immediately took to his big sister who he loves so much. It was nice that he had spent time with his siblings so he was used to having another dog around and is just a great pup for our family! Can't imagine not having adopted him the day we met him.

We have found that this shelter really cares about their pups, especially what type of home an adoptee is going to be part of. They do a great job of matching up their new family members. Our pup has become the BEST addition to our family. She was from a hoarding situ and was skittish, but she has become one of the sweetest family members we have ever had and we ADORE her! Valley Dogs is an extremely caring group that really does match up pups and their families. We are grateful they care so much about the pups in need! I have…read morefostered dogs for several local and non-local rescue groups including Valley Dogs, but what strikes me most about Valley Dogs is the animals they choose to pull from the shelters. Valley Dogs is run by a man named Michael West. From what I've observed, Michael chooses to take on the dogs that need the most help medically - the dogs hit by cars, obese owner surrenders, pregnant owner surrenders, older dogs with big hearts (figuratively) and medical conditions... I am not sure how he manages to finance all of this. Valley Dogs holds a few fund raisers through out the year, but I know the cost to get his dogs in good enough health to be adopted must be daunting. I can see the stress in his face every time I see him. However, he keeps pulling dogs in great need from the shelter because I don't think he can turn away. All of Valley Dogs rescues are fostered before they go up for adoption. This is a fantastic thing. Michael takes on a lot of these dogs. There is always a beautiful and kind red head (his wife?) that is with him at the adoptions and an older veteran as well. They foster a lot of the dogs, too. They know the quirks and idiosyncrasies of each of the dogs they foster. This helps with placement. I love this group. They are human, but they must be hidden angels because the dogs they are helping are the ones most definitely the most in need. They are very often at the PetsMart on 20th and Highland on the weekends trying to find homes for their dogs. If you see them and want a specific type of dog, I would imagine they would scour the shelters for you

Again, by all means keep the puppies healthy but make sure your employees are aware of you policies/procedures. plus IMO it felt very puppy mill from the doorway. My advice? Definitely go somewhere else.

She's a part-time outdoor cat (mainly roaming the streets in the early morning) that chooses to pop in for a warm bed (usually my laptop) and some freeze dried space niblets (seafood flavored kibble). Ever since Gracie came into my life, a name I heard my neighbor's calling her, I've been trying to get her little things here and there to make her life better. As I type this, I see the cloud cat tower she's used once while getting a delivery alert for the outdoor house I bought her. So when I was at Whole Foods recently, I noticed this pet store right next door. With time to spare, I meandered in to see what offerings they had. Their dog selection is the majority of the store with two rows for felines and even less for other types pets you might have.
