In the past, I depended on Madewell for consistently delivering on quality leather goods: tote bags for work, leather boots, loafers and cute casual bags. As an educator, those were my staples. They also had great smooth cotton graphics tees and my faves were when they'd collaborate with orgs such as the NY Botanical Gardens. Rummaging through the sale sections during off season is usually catch some great cardigans and blazers for the fall and great bandannas and jewelry to add a little razzle dazzle. Nowadays, the prices have risen astronomically. Little stackable earrings are now on average $58 and the clasps are weak and poorly made. One day after purchasing 2 pairs from this store, they're coming apart. Purchase a purse, the leather is trashy. A lot of the classics that myself and half the teachers at my school used to purchase have been removed from the rotation. Super annoying! Madewell, please get back to basics. She tried to embarrass the f out of me in front of a full line bc I asked to have my purchase returned to my credit card which was the means by which I made my purchase. Routinely saying "I'm not following you at all" "I am so confused what you're asking for" "you want to do what????" in a very snarky rude demeanor. The customer service was -100/10. Learn how to do your job and stop being rude. And also, no one should allow you to be customer facing.

I realized after wearing it it was brass plated and the employee did not mention that at all and told me it would last and not tarnish if I kept it in good condition. It started to peel off after 2 or 3 months and now I have a ring that is peeling off and doesn't look too sightly. After one wash the "brass" changed color and so I placed translucent polish on it but it still peeled off. I'm guessing this brass plate is very low quality and not worth it. I give an extra stars for the other pretty pieces in the store but this particular one was not up to par for me.

Before I say anything else about this place let me just discuss this: The first thing that I noticed about Berlyn 65 is that the shop smells exquisite! The owner made sure that there is this wonderful aroma as you walk into the place that tantalizes your senses and it made me very content and experience a sense of calm energy. This shop has some real goodies! My eyes were focused on the soft, elegant chair throws! This was so very true that I had to take a picture of the luxurious gray chair throw that is on a chair near the store entrance. The throw comes in a variety of colors and they were valued at $150. The shop decor is delightful which goes with the owner's peaceful energy that I felt was exuded towards me and my coworkers as we looked around Berlyn 65. It isn't easily noticed but is located next to a local favorite establishment of mine for matcha. When I eyed this gift shop, they offered various items that I like in comparable higher end gift shops in NYC/Brooklyn: locally made jewelry, glassware, home goods, puzzles, candles, apothecary items, and much more aesthetically pleasing merchandise. I do wish they had more ceramic items like espresso cups and mugs. Overall, they have many fun and beautifully curated merchandise, whether gifting for a family or friend or possibly yourself.
