We were in Beaufort for the first time. We passed by all the beach type restaurants (not usually great food) and happened to come across this great find. My husband and I had dinner there during our trip to SC. We started with the fried green tomatoes with goat cheese which was fabulous. My husband had a dish he liked, I think it was the pork chop. I on the other hand I would give my actual dinner 1 star at best. I had the pecan crusted chicken. Or should I call it rubber chicken smothered in pecan and sauce. I expected the chicken to be 'crusted' and not smothered in a pound of pecans. And the chicken was so rubbery that I could barely find a piece that I could chew. I ate about three bites. Sad because it was so ridiculously expensive for such a wafer thin piece of overdone tough chicken. The prices were ridiculous for what you get too. I've had way better meals in Charleston and NY for less money. The service could have been better as well. I would not recommend this place. Thumbs way down. read more

Upscale casual. Burger special on Thursdays are so busy u need reservations! I love the tomato bisque soup and the goat cheese and beet salad. We arrived in Beaufort, South Carolina, for our daughter's Marine Corps graduation from Los Angeles, CA. We rented a VRBO home within walking distance from Wren. We went there last night. It was very good , so, we went again tonight at 9pm. The first night we ordered pecan chicken, and a fish special. The pecan chicken was wonderful! Crispy, crunchy pecans with chicken. The waiter brought us bread with a garlicky cheese spread. SO good! I requested a basil martini, not sweet. It was very good! The best one I have had was in Palm Springs, CA and it came very close! The next night, after picking up our boy from the airport, we arrived at 9pm. We ordered calamari and these wonderful crispy, crab appetizer fritters! The best crab fritters we have ever had! We ordered a burger(it was burger night), steak, and I had the Harvest Salad, AND, of course, a Basil Martini! If I am ever back to Beaufort, I will be back to Wren. read more

I can't say enough about their chicken salad, fresh, flavorful and a filling lunch. I was a little surprised at the cost of a glass of wine ($11), though it went perfectly with the meal. Sammie's service was consistently attentive, but not overly so. Acoustics make conversation a little difficult when it's crowded. read more

We had a great meal at Wren! My husband had the clams and said they were the best he had ever had (and he eats them all the time). The crabcakes and the grilled caesar were amazing. We ate at the bar and talked to the bartender and the manager, Tiffany who said that they have made great strides in their service. This is very evident. The staff was very friendly and attentive. This was such a wonderful find in Beaufort! Charming restaurant and service and the food was all amazing! Try the lobster and shrimp bisque and their pecan chicken salad was also so good. We came in with our two children for lunch and even though they don't have a kids menu they offered to prepare some chicken nuggets for our 4 year old. Will definitely go back! A group of eight of us had reservations at 6:30pm. We all are local women in our 30's and 40's out to celebrate two birthdays. We all had been looking forward to this all week long. We are busy moms who have kids and it is difficult for all of us to get time off together. Especially with no kids! Reservations had been made at least a week in advance. We arrived and were seated promptly. It took 30 min to get our drink orders and another 15 min to get the drinks. The cocktails were supposed to be a "fruity" drink. Instead, it tasted like straight tequila on ice. The drinks were sent back and immediately the waitress seemed annoyed. We were all talking, laughing having a good time. No problem...we will get new drinks and keep it moving. While we were waiting for the drinks we asked several times if we could order. Mind you the table that came in 20 minutes after us already had their appetizer. The waitress (as she was walking by) would say "in a minute." We finally got around to ordering at around 7:50pm, almost an hour and a half after we were seated. We asked if we could just place our order for appetizer and entree at the same time. The waitress said no she only wanted our appetizer orders now. We said it had been over an hour and we would like to order everything at once. Again, she seemed annoyed but took our order. She also seemed annoyed when one lady wanted to substitute something on the menu. So, it is now 8:00pm and all we have on the table are drinks. We noticed other customers had bread on the table. We asked if we are supposed to get bread. The waitress said "Yes you are." Never brought any. Finally an employee who looked young was walking by and we asked if he could get us bread and he did with a smile. Thank you Charles. Service with a smile...the owner could take a lesson from this kid. Out of nowhere the "owner" comes out of the kitchen and stands over the table and very rudely says "I have one of my servers in tears in the back and if you can't act civilized you all can leave." Turns around and goes back in the kitchen. Thanks for the buzz kill (not literally...at this point I would have loved to have been buzzed). Mood totally changed at the table. Now, I will be the first to admit if any of us was rude to our waitress. No one ever raised their voice, yelled, or cursed. No one was drunk or even buzzed for that matter. For the owner to accuse us of not acting civilized was crossing the line. I still am shaking my head at that comment. Did we complain among ourselves at the table? Yes. Who wouldn't at this point? I am sorry if returning drinks that were disgusting and asking to order after an hour and a half of sitting there threw a wrench in the "system". Okay, so we apologized to the waitress if we offended her in any way and we said we did not mean to make her cry. She said "I was not crying. " Hmmm, the owner said she was crying. Whatever. One of the ladies got up and left the restaurant. Honestly, I don't blame her. I would have too except we were out to celebrate and it was already after 8:00pm and there would be nowhere else to go. Looking back, we should have left. So the waitress brings a Diet Coke to the lady who left. We told her she was gone but she left the Diet Coke on the table. No problem. Well, about 15 min later another lady ordered another Diet Coke. The waitress took the Diet Coke that had been sitting on the table and said "Here this is a Diet Coke." Thanks for the now watered down Diet Coke. I wish I was kidding right now. I had called earlier in the week to see if the birthday girls would get a dessert or if they did anything for birthdays. Yes, they get a free dessert and they will even put a candle on it. Perfect. I confirmed this when I got to the restaurant. Well, when we got the bill the desserts were on the bill. When we asked the waitress about it she said she was told by management to add the desserts to the bill. Seriously? We asked to speak to the owner again at the end of the night he was so disgusting rude I can't even put it into words. I see the waitress just took a lesson is his blame shifting class because that is what he did. Basically he said they were busy, he was cooking for 200 people and he does not have time to deal with people like us. Somewhere in the conversation he mentioned his blood pressure. He would not listen to anything that was said. Just kept interrupting. He claimed the table next to us offered to pay our bill if we would leave. Wish I would have known that. I would have gladly let them pay the bill and the $60 gratuity. The owner couldn't care less if we ever came back. read more

Interesting, cozy decor and excellent service. The complimentary bread and herbal butter was top notch. The food was beautifully presented and would have also been top notch except that both dishes we ordered were unexpectedly sweet, which for us overshadowed the savory flavors. If sugars are added to savory dishes, it would be helpful to have that noted on the menu. read more

Wonderful wonderful wonderful! I was in town with co-workers and we checked the ratings on Yelp. The ratings were great so we decided to go. The drinks are wonderful! We ordered our waiter's recommendations and there was as no disappointment! We had the fried green tomatoes, fried crab cakes and calamari for apps - totally recommend! Convenient to shopping in Beaufort. We tried the chicken salad plate, the fried green tomato sandwich and a burger. Portions were nicely sized (you get a large bowl of French fries or potatoes), the atmosphere was pleasant as was the service. I can only give this place ZERO stars because the "a whole" host just refused to let us order drinks at the bar even though there were 2 empty chairs. We'll take our business elsewhere thanks. On a recent visit to Beaufort we tried The Wren for a celebratory dinner with friends. Our dinner was wonderful and I can't say enough about this place. Food, was delicious, I had the flounder, which was light and not at all greasy. My martini was perfect, ice cold and a good size. Others with us had the pork chop, the salmon and the Mahi w/shrimp. All were delicious, though the portion on the salmon could have been a little more generous. They had a good assortment of wines and beers. We had a slice of coconut cake for dessert and it was a great end to the meal. It was all so good we went back a second nite. This time I had the pecan chicken breast, which unfortunately was over cooked. On both visits the waitstaff was efficient and friendly. We visited a couple of other restaurants by the water and the Wren by far was the best. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality, relaxed meal. read more

Have only been through Beaufort once and stopped at When's for a in-between-time lunch. Awesome pear and blue cheese salad, good crab cake small plate. Effective wine list and the bar keeper Ely us try tastes of several until we got it Just Right. Nice surprise for a tiny town in the low country. read more

My wife and I were looking for a place to eat. We saw a young man, Orlando, and he appeared to be a chef by his clothing. We asked for a good place to go and he said " right there ". Stumbled upon this little spot while in town for my son's Marine graduation from Parris Island. What an amazing restaurant! Dinner, drinks, service and ambiance were lovely. Stopped in there for lunch it was our first visit. It took 15 minutes before the waiter came to take are drink order so we told him we were ready to order. It took 1/2 hr for our lunch to be served. The waiter apologized and said they were short in the kitchen. The waiters and waitresses were running around like chickens with their heads cut-off. They seemed very disorganized. Saw the bus boy only once and the wait staff had to clear the tables and re-set them. This place definitely needs a hostess to seat you so it would free up the wait staff. My lunch was delicious but my friend did not care for hers. Not sure if I would go back due to the disorganization. read more
