We had a light lunch in the middle of the afternoon. Excellent service, food was delicious. Highly recommend.

We usually go to Saltus when we want a nice dinner in Beaufort. Decided to try Wren for dinner on a Saturday night. Place was not busy at all when we arrived at 5:15 but we were seated right outside the kitchen, presumably because we had our 13 year old with us. Cocktails were tasty but expensive. Lobster bisque was very good and served hot. Calamari was served lukewarm at best but they were very nice when we asked that it be heated up and instead brought out a fresh order. It was still blah. I was excited about the flounder on rice with corn and black beans but the rice tasted like Zatarains. Our server Amber was very good and professional, did not have any issues like so many others have written about. Unfortunately Wren simply does not measure up to Saltus when it comes to food, ambiance and service. Will likely not be back. read more

Had lunch recently, based on many glowings comments from Palmetto Bluff residents. It didn't disappoint! Wonderful food, ambiance and service. It was difficult to choose which dish to order, as they all sounded delicious. We had the chicken salad and a roasted chicken sandwich. Both were generous and fresh. They make all of their own breads and the meats are not prepared deli meat. They are roasted daily on site. Our waitress, Lynn, was friendly and helpful. I would consider coming again for dinner as well. The atmosphere is sophisticated and yet, sort of rustic. read more

I really wanted to love Wren, but unfortunately the dining experience was not very good. We had a reservation, but the hostess, who never cracked a smile, looked at us like we had 3 heads. I will say our server was very nice, but the service, even to get water brought to the table, was like watching grass grow. Well over 20+ minutes to order drinks & delivered to the table. We finally ordered an appetizer and wish we hadn't. The mussels were just plain awful and we sent it back. Server said the manager would be over to talk with us, but we never saw him/her. My husband ordered shrimp & grits and I ordered steak. His was good, mine not so much. Ordered steak at medium rare, came well done. Overall, the service was extremely slow and unorganized.The food was really nothing out of the ordinary. I could not recommend the Wren to anyone looking for a good dining experience in Beaufort. read more

The Wren is fantastic. Great atmosphere, great food, and fantastic coconut cake. I had the Green Fried Tomatoes and Pomme Frites and my husband had the Crunchy Flounder with black bean corn salsa, amazing!!! Dinner, martini, and wine along with coffee and cocounut cake for $62 plus tip. Our new favorite restaurant in Beaufort. We were skeptical because of the former reviews but I promise you will not be disaappointed. read more

If all that counts is food, we would have given wren a five. The food was delicious. We waited an hour for our food and received it only after asking what was taking so long. There were no apologies, just oh well, the kitchen help is slow today..if you have all day to eat its a great place to dine. The waitress/ hostess didn't seem to want to be there. I've ordered dinner here several times and have now had two not very good meals. Once the drunken shrimp over pasta, which had a very strange taste, and not a good one, kind of like the pasta and shrimp were boiled in the same water, and the tomato sauce was flavorless...and once "fresh" grouper which smelled so fishy when put on the table I couldn't stomach it. Grouper is not a fishy fish. The reason it's tough is that lunch can be sooo excellent. Their service and some of the dishes, like chicken salad are really good. The bar is great and the atmosphere is really nice. Great place to lunch with the girls, but again, it's hit or miss for the kitchen, unfortunately, especially since it's one of the pricier places in town. read more

Delicious dinner at Wren. After a heavy late lunch, we weren't very hungry but made a terrific meal of appetizers and wine. Great atmosphere. Good servers, fairly timely from order to kitchen. Nice wine selection and some good signature cocktails. Pimento cheese appetizer--well, SC just doesn't know how to do pimento cheese. Bland, mediocre, boring. Excellent flounder special. Really nice salads. No vegetarian entrees on the menu but chef was accommodating with a veggie pasta dish. Great flavor and a portion that will provide lunch for several days after. read more

We had an amazing dinner here last night. Marla, our waitress, was gracious, attentive, friendly, and mistake-free. The meatloaf was FREAKING AMAZING!! Best I have ever had, served over scrumptious smashed potatoes with a side of thinly sliced candied/glazed carrots. Huge portions. Lovely service. The brined pork chops were also wonderful, juicy and tasty. House-made crispy crusty bread with herbed-peppered-shaved parmesan butter rounded out the meal. Because it was my daughter's birthday, we received 2 (not just one!!) Large portions of dessert: gooey chocolate cake, and a lemon sponge cake with tangy tart lemon buttercream filling an inch thick. Oh--- and you HAVE to try the BlackBerry bramble specialty cocktail!. So far...my favorite restaurant in Beaufort by far. We ate relatively early...6 p.m., which might have eased the service. The place was packed by the time we finally rolled out the door, stuffed and very very happy. Bravo!!! read more

The food was fabulous. This was our third visit. We went on New Year's Eve. The service was good. The only unpleasantry was the seating...too cramped. Every time a server attended the table on either side of our table for 2 along the wall, the server's rear end was right between us and practically on our table. And there was a time or too that the food going to the other 2 tables might land in our laps. I'll go back, but won't sit in that area again. read more

Took a group of 11 for lunch. All the food was delicious. We had the fried green tomatoes for appetizer ... not traditional FGT's but wow, YUM!!! Shrimp & Grits are delicious but R-I-C-H ... so be ready! Chicken salad got rave reviews ... and as silly as it sounds, the iced tea is honestly the best I've ever had! I would eat here every day!! We'd heard good things about the food so decided to try it out for lunch. We got sandwiches "to go". I got the chicken salad - the salad was ok but a little "oniony" for me. The bread was rather dry. My husband got the brined chicken sandwich - he says it was pretty good but not worth the $12 charge. The sandwiches come with a bag of chips...our bill for two sandwiches was over $26. Had an amazing experience at Wren Bistro today with my wife and best friend and his wife for lunch. The restaurant has comfortable modern decor with a very great staff. We were served by Meagen who had us feeling confident we made the right choice for lunch. We ordered the delicious cheeseburger and Fried Chicken salad. We were looking for a restaurant to eat at after our sons graduation from Parris Island on Friday. Little did we know that my son would be treated to a free meal. The service was amazing. Courtney made us feel welcome and at home. The food was amazing from our appetizer of bisque to my sons chocolate cheesecake dessert. My daughter and I had the low country Cobb Salad. Very good! With its relaxed atmosphere and great food, Wren is my absolute favorite restaurant in Beaufort for lunching with local friends or out of town guests! Although my favorite lunch is the Toasted Pecan Cranberry Chicken Salad and Mango iced tea, we have never been disappointed with any of the sandwiches or salads on the menu. My husband especially loves the Bistro burger (and he is very picky about his burgers)! Regarding some of the earlier posts criticizing service - I have found the service at Wren to be very courteous and friendly. Drinks are refilled as needed without having to ask and any other dining needs are attended to promptly. read more

Great atmosphere. Bar Service and food service staff was horrible. The bar staff acted as if they could care less if they served you. Table service was not much better. This could be a great place if the staff was trained to serve. The food arrived in a timley manner and was excellent. Local... sad bartender I had. Over priced Yuppie competing with the jones kinda place I guess as the $ spent can be done elsewhere in this town. If you want to appear like you are in the in kinda rich- this is your place... If you want a great experience for less.... go elsewhere. Overall fairly good. I was there with a large group. I had the tomato basil soup which was really amazing - fresh, creamy, sweet, flavorful. I also had the fried chicken salad. It was tasty but they could add more dressing and pull the greens in smaller pieces. Peach bellinis were a great recommendation. Daughter had a burger and skinny fries - perfectly done, very substantial. Everyone raved about the chicken salad and the fried green tomato sandwich. Read the reviews on Yelp and decided to try Wren. My first impression was skeptical since it was Saturday night and there were many empty tables. Our waiter arrived and offered the special for the night: Steak. My wife (diabetic) asked for a vegetable instead of potatoes-Can't do that. OK, we order 2 steaks, medium, and an appetizer. the appetizer never came! My wife's steak was still bleeding when it arrived. She tried to flag the waiter with no luck. He never came back to see if all was good so she ate around the edges and left the rest. When he finally returned (30-40 min) we told him the steak was rare but by this time we were through with dinner. He did not charge us-we insisted- for the appetizer but said the steak was on us. We paid the entire bill, tipped him, and started for the door. This was too much for my wife. She spoke to the manager who apologized and took her steak off the bill. MORAL: if the reviews are inconsistent, chances are the service/food will be as well. read more

Jeni was a delight with her recommendations about the menu and she gave us ideas on what to see and do in town. We will be back to Wren before we end our vacation. Even with reservations and an empty restaurant on a Saturday, it took an inexplicably long period of hand wringing and head scratching to find us one of the innumerable open tables. The food actually is reasonably good...but be prepared to essentially provide your own service. Staff absent, if not indignant. It's a very rare restaurant that considers even the most basic things, like water, to be an unwelcome intrusion. Maybe get take-out, or go somewhere else... read more

We came into town for a wedding and had dinner here the first night after a 10-hour drive. After we got settled at our hotel (City Loft Hotel), we walked across the street and got drinks and dinner here. Immediately walked in and fell in love with the decor: it's pottery barn meets rustic. The service was excellent and the food was light, refreshing, and packed with quality ingredients and flavor. I got the grilled Caesar, which was presented in a deconstructed way. I also had the mushroom and cheese flatbread topped with herbs, which was also amazing. My husband a pasta dish that I forget the name of, but if wow if they sold the pasta sauce, I'd pay $50 to have it shipped to my house once a year! Overall, excellent all the way around and recommend as one of the top spots in town. read more

Glass in the food with a side of attitude. Went to Wren tonight with 2 of my friends for burger night. While they both got burgers that were according to them, "decent", I ordered the hot shrimp dip for an appetizer and the pecan chicken for my entree. The shrimp dip arrived and while we were enjoying it, one of my friends got a mouthful of glass. It appeared a plate or serving dish had shattered and ended up in the dip before they baked it. We called the waitress Jordan over and she was mortified to say the least. She took the food away and said that she would get another one for us as well as notify the owner Annie. As the meal progressed, the new appetizer arrived and was great followed by the entrees. While the burgers arrived just like we had ordered them, the kitchen had messed up the sides of my entree. Not a big deal, keep in mind that the owner had yet to make an appearance at our table to apologize for the glass or even touch base on the subject. My order was fixed followed by many apologies from Jordan. We continued with our meal, Jordan taking very good care of us. Then the bill came. I mentioned to Jordan that I was appalled that Annie had not approached us in reference to the glass in the food. Jordan was nice enough to take the appetizer as well as the first round of drinks off our bill. Only after I had said something about Annie not coming to the table did she approach us to give us a nice dose of attitude with some half sincere apology about the glass in the food. While I have been in food and beverage for many years, finding glass in food is not a small matter. Annie explained that she was notified by the server of what had happened and that the server had "talked to us about it" and that she felt was sufficient. I couldn't believe it, not only had we found glass in our food but the owner decided to give us attitude when we mentioned that she had not come to the table. Way to go Annie, we are locals, not tourists. I will be more than happy to let everyone know about our experience and they way you handled it. I can tell you one thing, I will never step foot in that restaurant again, and hopefully, neither will you. But if you do, check your food and don't complain unless you want some attitude to go with it. read more

Got there late on our honeymoon and they re-opened the kitchen for us (or kept it open longer). It was mid-week in a small town, just after 9pm after all. We had a WONDERFUL meal (perfectly prepared steak for me and shrimp and grits for my wife). The chef presented us a wonderful 3 layer chocolate mousse for dessert on the house. WE had a delicious meal at Wren last week. We traveled to Beaufort with some friends of ours from Houston. After walking the main drag and taking a tour of the historic homes in Beaufort, we walked over to Saltus to take a look at the menu. Saltus was closed for a private party so we walked a few blocks up to Wren. When we arrived (around 5:45), the place was empty. The hostess told us that we could not be seated because they were full, but that we were welcome to sit at the bar. We were a bit miffed at first, but we settled in at the bar and got a few drinks. We then ordered some starters - fried, green tomatoes and shrimp cocktail. The shrimp cocktail was perfect and it was made with a fresh cocktail sauce instead of some bottled stuff. For our main course we had the grouper. The fish was fresh and light and the risotto was rich and flavorful. We did not make it to dessert but we housed all our food with pleasure. I'll definitely keep Wren on my list for great dinners in Beaufort. read more
