    Bento Box (weekly special)

Review update: Wu's Garden continues to provide quality Chinese food in Leola. The staff is helpful and nice, and provides quick and accurate service. Over the pandemic they had good measures put into place for safety, but now the dining room is back open and remodeled! Their prices have only increased slightly, but remain a good value. They now offer catering platters and weekly specials which can be found on their website. Recently I tried the bento box which included chicken and broccoli, rice, kani salad, and a spicy tuna roll for $14.99. It was a great change from my usual order. I still highly recommend Wu's Garden.

Great food, just a little pricier than other takeout places. And they serve a little less too.

A Gourmet Garden sits in a small shopping center next to the Giant grocery store in Leola, PA. This establishment fits into the same catgeory as the typical Chinese-American takeout restaurant. Yes, you can eat there, but there are approximately 4-6ish tables to sit at. The menu features the ubiquitous, commonly known dishes that Americans opt for. There are the same highlighted pictures of dishes lighted on a marquee above, and to the side of the counter, displaying commonly ordered dishes that you will find in every other restaurant of this type. With that being said, sometimes you will find an occasional dish on the lunch/combo/chef specialty dish offerings that differs from most other places serving the same menu. On this occasion I found the "shredded pork in garlic sauce" lunch. I chose this because most typically do not find "shredded pork" with the respective sauce at places like this, at least around here. The miniature dining room is separated from the kitchen by a counter, where orders are placed and money is collected. As with most places like this, the kitchen is fully visible so I could see what was happening in the back of house. First of all, the cook did not wear any type hand protection when handling ingredients. Secondly, there was no "shredded" pork in my dish. The cook simply took their roast pork (yes, the stuff with the red colored crust) and cut the slices into the pieces you see in my picture. I asked for my dish to be extra spicy, as I always do, and the heat I was looking for lacked. This particular dish on their menu is branded with a chili pepper, indicating that it is SUPPOSED to be spicy. From my experience, the high majority of Chinese-American restaurants NEVER make their dishes spicy when they are supposed to be. Probably, they are catering to the average palate but this is why I ask for "extra spicy" instead of just "spicy". Regardless, the sauce was thicker than desired. When you order a lunch special you actually have the choice of an included egg roll OR soup however I was not offered an option. If you do not specify you want soup, you will automatically get an egg roll. Overall, service was quick, as it tends to be in this type of establishment. The food was cheap and filling. But, as far as quality and satisfaction go, there was room for improvement and some to be desired. I cannot fault them for their level of standards, which parallels many other establishments in the same category, but one can always strive for a higher level of excellence.

It was pretty busy on Saturday when we went for dinner but we didn't have to wait too long and our food actually came out pretty fast. The service was as expected because it looked like 1 guy was serving all tables and he was literally running between table to table. I don't blame him for any waiting because he was busting his butt and we didn't really need to wait too long. We ordered a variety of dishes coming here but my favorite has to be the Homestyle Tofu or the Fish Filet. I would like to try more dishes next time. They give you quite a good amount of food for the price. Some places charge the same and give you much less. This place has authentic Chinese food with some common favorites that many of us also know (chicken with broccoli, lo mein, general tso's etc.) so there is something for everyone. There are vegetarian dishes available as well. If you're in the area and would like more savory, authentic Chinese food I recommend coming here!

The dry pot fish was probably one of the best I've had in recent memory. For me it was just the right level of mala spicy, without being overpowering. This dish came with rice. The lotus and mixed vegetables (which also came with rice) were also perfectly stir-fried. It included carrots, snap peas, black fungus, and of course lotus. Even my vegetable-skeptic kids liked this dish, especially the lotus root and snap peas. The wonton soup was more run-of-the-mill, but decent. We dined at Yi Pin on Easter Sunday, and the restaurant was very busy. We were able to get seated immediately at a booth, but it took a while for their lean-staffed waiters to bring a menu, water, and take our order. That said, the food did arrive quickly, steaming hot from the kitchen. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip in Lancaster.

Everything about this place exceeded our expectations. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, clean, and thoughtfully designed. It feels upscale without being stuffy, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting from the moment you walk in. We started with the crab rangoons and then ordered five sushi rolls: the Creamy & Crispy Roll, Crunchy Crab Roll, Black Dragon Roll, Hawaii Roll, and the Volcano Roll with spicy tuna. Every single roll was fantastic. Not "some were better than others" fantastic. Not "we found a favorite and tolerated the rest" fantastic. We genuinely loved every roll that came to the table. The Volcano Roll with spicy tuna was my personal favorite and an easy 10/10, but honestly there wasn't a single thing we ordered that we wouldn't get again. The presentation deserves its own mention. The rolls were beautifully plated, complete with gorgeous edible flowers and thoughtful garnishes that made everything look almost too pretty to eat. Service was excellent. The food came out surprisingly quickly, but not all at once. Instead, the rolls arrived in small groups, which actually made the experience even better because we could enjoy each one before the next arrived. For two people, five specialty rolls and crab rangoons came to about $80, which is completely reasonable and honestly pretty standard for quality sushi. We will absolutely be back, and we've already started recommending Hills to Sea to friends and family. If you're a sushi lover in Lancaster County, put this place on your list immediately.
