Gray veggies and grisly chicken. My partner said she'd pick up Cashew Chicken at Wu's Garden, and I was looking forward to a good dinner. The egg rolls were delicious! (2 stars for that) The cashews and rice were fine, but I never realized so much gristle can found in chicken. And the celery, onions, and mushrooms had clearly left the Garden a looong time ago. This is a cute little restaurant. The food was good and came out pretty quick. One thing that wasn't as good was the customer service; I'm not sure if our waitress was being short with me or if it was just the language barrier. Also, there was a long black piece of hair in my lo mein. Ew! The noodles still tasted good though. I got the vegetable lo mein, which tastes pretty much like chow mein with thinner noodles. My husband got the #6; pork fried rice, chicken, fried shrimp, and char siu pork (I know, he can eat! Lol). And we got spring rolls for the appetizer. I have not and now will not try this place. I called them by accident to order soup. I meant to order from Yu's Garden which isn't far away. After I'd already arrived at the other restaurant and paid for my food, I got a call from Wu's saying my order was ready. I said I had already paid and was waiting, they asked if I was in the bar and then my phone died. They called again and I tried to answer and saw someone at the current place bringing out my order so I hung up. It then dawned on me I WAS AT THE WRONG PLACE! I felt horrible and being a nice person, I called and profusely apologized and said I was at the wrong place. The woman I spoke to said, "Ok, but you can never order from here again." If someone does Wu's Garden will be in the opening chapter. Wu's, named after the owner, is a cozy little dining experience in a strip mall of food establishments. The staff is welcoming...most of the time...and the food is prepared very quickly. Please know if you are looking for truly authentic Chinese cuisine you should stop now. Go elsewhere. This is the place you visit when you want that vibrantly coloured, intensely sweet yet tangy, and deep fried in sesame oil, goodness that we all in the North American continent grew up with under the name "Chinese food". The experience with the food alone is satisfying, portions generous (you will get a second meal to take with you due to portion sizing!), but the second experience here is the ambience. This place has everything you think of when it comes to a sitcom Chinese food restaurant. Generally you will be greeted by someone for whom Chinese is their first language, and the staff all treat each other (and the regulars) like family. You also have the classic characters; the older waitress that's been there long enough to know everyone, the young host that thinks Abercrombie is formal wear and he's cool because he has it, the owner with the BMW so modified Germany has declared his specific model as "made in Japan" and it's on the cover of the next Need For Speed installment, and the hard working newer waitress that's trying to outwork everyone and prove herself. It's entertaining, comical, good food, good company, and a nice break from the sometimes pretentious foodie environment our city attracts. I wouldn't recommend this place for an anniversary dinner, or where you take someone to impress them. I would recommend it for those nights you don't want to cook, need a meal that's very reasonable in price but the quality is consistently great, and you just want to relax. As I've mentioned in another review, my hubby and I are constantly on the lookout for awesome Chinese and have been let down in Portland time after time - This is where it ends. We (3 of us) ordered take out: General Taos, Veggie Chow Mein, steamed broccoli, crab rangoon and hands down, the best effing egg rolls I've ever had in my life. They tasted like they were coated in Popeye's Chicken breading and the guts just melted in my mouth. Half way decent Crab Rangoon/Crab Puffs have been super tough to track down, but not any more. We use to love this place. the last time we went, we ordered the noodles with chicken and the chicken smelt AWFUL! we told our server and we told her we wanted another dish, which they did bring out, but it was kind of scary trying to dig into it again. I think the chicken was REALLY old. we will not be returning here, the place seems dirty, but we would still eat there, possibly our fault for not avoiding it all together in the first place. This is one of those feel good Chinese restaurants. The food is prepared fresh and it's not swimming in grease when they bring it out. They have really good lunch deals and the dining room is big so it's a good getaway for your lunch break or just to hop in for dinner with the family. "You get what you pay for" perfectly describes Wu's Garden. Prices are cheap for lunch specials - around the same prices as Panda Express - and have somewhat better food quality, while maintaining a "Chinese American" restaurant feel. My biggest complaint would be the service. The server was fighting with a family behind us over what they had ordered, and you could hear her yelling in the back afterwards. It made for a less than comfortable environment. The soup was less than satisfactory. I got the Hot and Sour soup that came with the lunch special. It looked like they had taken some heated up sauce and put cat food in it. Rather unappetizing, I was even more disappointed when it tasted as bad as it looked. That being said, for $6.25 I received a rather generous portion of food that, while not the best tasting, was definitely filling and worth the money. If you are willing to risk poor service and want good food for little money, this is your place. Otherwise, I suggest trying something else. read more

We have eaten here for years and had great food and service, however , the last two experiences have been horrible! Last night my wife ordered a combo plate and the bbq pork was way over cooked " reheated"? She was up all night with horrible food poisoning and when I called to let them know that there was a problem with the food we received, they acted like " oh well"! I will never eat there again and by the looks of how few people are actually dining in the restaurant makes me wonder about the freshness of their food! Despite having eaten there twice, I still consider Wu's Garden to be extremely mediocre at best. I've gotten takeout both times, and this place absolutely refuses to get portable containers appropriate for liquids. Even though soup is included with the meals, they just jip you soup if you're to-go, because they don't want to invest in liquid-friendly containers, however they already put all of their sauces on the side in regular chinese containers then just double bag them and pray that you don't complain too much when your car ends up covered in Almond Chicken gravy or Sweet & Sour sauce. As if that frustrating bit wasn't enough, the food itself is bland, boring, and the 'pork fried rice' is none of the above (the pork is just tiny chunks of the bbq pork included free with all combos, and the rice isn't fried, it's just regular white rice with a couple veggies in it and some egg). What kind of chinese place gets FRIED RICE wrong? I've eaten here a couple times now, only because of it's location (at the top of a giant hill, I live at the bottom of said hill, and there's a serious lack of chinese food around Troutdale/Wood Village), however every time I'm disappointed that it's not better. "Well, it wasn't awful" I tell myself, however that clearly isn't enough to warrant anything but a blunt review. The first time I ate there I got extremely violently ill, and was still brave (or stupid) enough to go back and feed my whole family with their food, however it was still just as disappointing (although thankfully didn't make me ill this time). We found this place by accident one Saturday in the rain, with two, small, starving kids in the backseat. This place definitely fit the bill for filling tummies and getting back on the road! They sat us immediately, brought snacks and lollipops (dum-dum) for the kids, and all of the food we ordered was quick and tasty! My husband and I used to frequent this Chinese Restaurant because its close to our house and the food was good. It's been a few weeks since we've eaten there (and quite a few months prior to that visit) until tonight. We ordered two chicken meals. My husband's (the "dinner special" almond chicken) was so hard, he couldn't bite into it or even cut it with a fork. It was completely inedible. My sesame chicken had a bad aftertaste and left a disgusting film on the top of my mouth. The rice was mushy and the fried rice had no flavor whatsoever. It was absolutely horrible. We called to let them know and ask for a refund. The food was bad, plain and simple. We even offered to drive back and SHOW them. They refused. They refused to do anything to rectify the situation in any way. We will NEVER go back and we'll make sure none of our friends or family do either. STAY AWAY. Szechuan Kitchen on Powell and Burnside is much better. Skip Wu's and go there. You won't be sorry! read more
