Good Lied, where to start! We recently visited Astoria and I was pleasantly surprised to discover Xanadu right there on a busy downtown Main Street. Lots of windows! Lots of rainbows! Lots of glitter! They have nothing to hide. Not like when I was growing up. I was expecting to be in a windowless building on a side street. We are too special for that. I love how they have created a welcoming and nurturing space for community. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is decorated to the nines and the owners are incredibly warm and immersed in community.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Scott has incredible culinary talents and makes the best pizza! Brandon is class-act, so welcoming and creates a dynamic vibe. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We stayed for karaoke. OMG, it was my best karaoke experience. Why? They have the best equipment - sound system and their karaoke subscription is light years ahead. They have tons of artists and songs you can't usually get elsewhere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had the time of my life singing...and clearly lots of others enjoyed singing too. We had soooo much fun at Xanadu we can't wait to return. And, here's the thing...I do not consider myself a "bar" person bc I don't usually feel comfortable in most bars, including gay bars. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But this space is different...kinda feels like a festive, welcoming community center. Oh boy.. where do we start. We came to Astoria the 14th-16th for their pride weekend. We saw that Xanadu was doing a burlesque drag show that was horror themed. This was a little campy for us but we said what the hell let's go for it. We paid for VIP tickets so we didn't have to stand.. The bar tender was ok but that was about it. This place is incredible small when it comes to hosting these events so we were squeezed in. It felt like we were on top of each other. However wasn't the worse of it. Burlesque is the art of teasing.. That is literally what it is all about. First act was down to thong and tassels. This went from Burlesque to a strip show and we were not about it. We left immediately even after paying $50. We also watch performers and random people going in to the back pass the kitchen. It gave me the icks. I wouldn't want to eat there with so many going back and forth from the kitchen. Overall even though we are both part of the community this was not as advertised and made us very uncomfortable. read more

First off, the bartender was so friendly and made us out-of-towners feel at home. Second, and most important, I rarely get good pizza because I'm dairy and gluten free. This place has gluten free crust (and not thin crappy kind - like thick, bubbly kind!) and vegan cheese as options! (Forewarned, I think they use the same oven, so celiacs be aware of CC). This place is great. Review is more about Pride weekend where they really kicked butt with events and staff. Not sure how busy this place gets normally but I think it is safe to assume that every weekend night is not as crazy as Pride weekend. Very fun place where drink prices are not really expensive compared to what i am used to paying. Saturday night the line never seemed to go down yet the bartender kept kicking ass slinging those drinks and crew kept tables cleared and things moving. What a great group of people. This place feels like home. I first want to shout out the staff. I have never been anywhere with such happy and great staff. They were beyond helpful, fun , and friendly. You can tell they all love working there and interacting with new people which made it such an enjoyable eating experience. They have a retro feeling breakfast nook area with a bar and seating. There was Dolly Parton playing on all the tvs which honestly just added to the cheery and bright vibe. The food was delicious. It tasted like an actually home cooked meal and cooked with love. The hash was so filling and satisfying. It has sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, onion, garlic, peppers, and I even got to add tofu. My fiancés burrito was the size of my head and I mean it it was seriously impressive the size of this thing. He devoured most of it and had to get a box. He LOVED it! Also I highly recommend this restaurant to any traveling vegan. There are MULTIPLE vegan options and it was the easiest place for me to eat in Astoria. Everything that can be vegan is labeled. We went to Xanadu on Friday night at 9:45 PM. The bar had a small crowd and wasn't too busy. We loved our bartender-they made great drinks as well as a distillery recommendation (Pilot Distillery). I enjoyed the Stonewall 69-this drink is AWESOME and not too sweet. It was balanced and delicious. We also split a Stoney Malone pizza. The crust on this pizza was perfect, and basil + pepperoni + hot honey was the pizza combination I was not aware I needed in my life until this pizza. It comfortably fed two people.
