This review is going to get up close and personal... I was turned on to Xentrik because I heard Raji from Beauty Concepts (Downers Grove) was here on Tue and Sun. I loved Raji's facials and wanted a salon closer to me, so I was thrilled. I've had at least 6 visits here (if not more). They offer a nice selection of services at a very reasonable price. Waxing, threading, facials, hair, nails/pedicures, airbrush tanning, henna tattoos, makeup.. Salon itself is nicely decorated and very clean. I always feel good vibes when I'm here. Staff is so friendly and booking appointments is a breeze. Gaya is never not here and her schedule is flexible. Brazilian $30. Facials start at $30. Eyebrow threading is cheap too and she does a great job. Lately I've been coming mainly for Gaya's Brazilian wax and brow & face threading. Gaya is the only one who does waxing and she is an absolute doll. Extremely easy to be around, you won't feel uncomfortable with her. She has a very warm personality and is just likeable. Always smiling and jovial. Positive vibes ooze from her (not kidding). She's also professional and hygienic. She takes her job seriously. Wax room is super clean and she explains everything. I always have a ton of questions (especially first time I met her) about the Brazilian. She takes her time explaining and is extremely thorough! Yes, ladies know how important it is to have a 'spotless' Brazilian. I will tell you she uses hard wax only on certain areas. First time I ever experienced it and I questioned whether this was safe / good to use. I researched this myself and found varying opinions from professionals. Some said its fine down there, some don't recommend. Some women don't like it at all. You may not feel any pain with regular wax (I don't), but you will with hard wax. I asked Gaya and trusted her opinion. First time it WAS painful...second time too. Heck, its never not painful for a second or two and I have a high threshold for pain. It doesn't last long and she strives to do her best to reduce the "OUCH!" Regular hot wax is used on remaining area. Again, she is very thorough and throughout process asks if you're OK multiple times. She uses gloves during process and when finished applies baby oil and an antiseptic. You cannot have sex the night of. Your skin is still raw - she advises to apply baby oil and Neosporin few times after your visit. Its important to wait at least a month prior to next apt. Gaya is also a wealth of information on Indian spices and remedies. I've asked about hair, skin, etc and she told me multiple spices to use and how to use them. Tumeric is key along with ginger & others. Ask and she'll be happy to offer her knowledge - she knows her shit! I recieved the absolute worst haircut of my life at this place... i don't even know where to start... please please do not go here they will ruin your hair... (I went here ONLY because my other salon was booked) I went in for a haircut asking for a shoulder length lob (with pictures). Ginny, my hairstylist, clearly had no idea what she was doing to the point of it being concerning. When I would clarify what I wanted she would keep saying "you're so indesisive! You don't know what you want!" When I knew exactly what I wanted ( I had this cut before at a different salon ) and was just clarifying it for her. It was clear at this point that she was trying to place blame on me before doing the haircut because she didn't know how to do it. I don't know why I didn't leave then and there but the cut itself was just cringy... she just BLUNT cut my hair (literally took a scissor and snipped it in one motion) to various parts of my hair like a child does. She didn't have me uncross my legs, look up, or compare sides of my hair for eveness ( I did this anyways because my normal salon does this so I knew it would make for a better cut ). She didn't even give me a good cut but got it to the shoulder and then said that's it and charged me $56 which is just absurd. I went home and after talking to family and friends everyone assured me I should go back because my hair was falling weird (what happens when you just HORIZONTALLY cut hair with scissors in one motion) and my bangs weren't trimmed at all. Fast forward to the other day when I went back to get it fixed. Ginny continued her "you were so indesisive the other day!" stunt to which I replied bewildered that I still know exactly what I want but she didn't do it the right way. (Also, to be clear, I was very respectful and tipped very well, and don't consider myself to be a rash person, but if you pay $60+ for a terrible haircut you at least want what you paid for). I told her my layers were uneven and my bangs weren't cut. SO (to which many think was out of spite) she takes all my hair and just BLUNT CUTS my bangs up to my nose! My heart sank the second I could see... I told her this is NOT what I asked and she's like "you wanted you bangs cut!" I kept insisting that I wanted them to frame my face and just a trim since they weren't before. She then proceeded to make even more terrible layers until she said I was done... I've never left a hair salon so devastated. I felt like the girl in the movie who had their younger brother cut her hair in her sleep. We called later asking for our money back to which we had the entire staff yelling at us and then clarifying that Ginny "IS MORE OF A COSMETOLOGIST THAN A HAIRSTYLIST". She kept her "she didn't know what she wanted!" game and didn't even apologize for the cringey haircut she gave me. I went home to a house full of people that were in pure awe of how bad it is... you know it's terrible when men and women alike are laughing/shocked/angry at a haircut, and many blaming it on "spite". I've never regretted anything more than going to this salon, and for going back. Thankfully the magician hairstylists at The MIXX in Elk Grove saved my life. They even used my hair as a teaching experience or new stylists on how NOT to cut hair (that's when you really know). They said my left side was about 3/4 inch shorter than the right, and my hair was all blunt cut and not textured or blended. Thankfully they fixed it to the point of it being bearable (still wish Ginny didn't f*** it up this badly tho...). Please, for the sake of your hair and personal sanity... do not go here. The level of unprofessionalism and lack of schooling is almost humorous. I was very embarrased to take any pictures, but since pictures speak louder than words I attached the one blurry pic I sent to a friend. So, the first time I got waxed at Xentrik, I ended up having some areas that weren't thoroughly cleaned up. It was attributed to the fact that I had shaved (electric razor, not close to the skin) a few weeks before hand. Okay, no biggie since it was my bad. I waited 5 weeks until my next appointment for, ahem, optimal full growth. I went into labor five days after the waxing session and could see my nether regions again two days after that (total = 7 days post-wax) -- and was NOT pleased to see several missed patches in addition to sporadic long, missed patches. The people at Xentrik are very nice, but I'm thoroughly disappointed to have paid $30 (pre-tip) for this outcome. read more

I have not had a Brazilian wax in 4 years and was kind of dreading having one done. The last time I had one (not here) I ended up with ingrowns and a reaction to whatever product was used on me post wax. I set up an appointment with Gaya and had my wax a few days ago. I cannot say enough about how wonderful she is. First of all, SHE'S FAST. Yes, it hurt still but Gaya's expertise and experience made all the difference in the world. She gives off a very calm and relaxing vibe and I felt at ease with her immediately. As far as the finished product goes, she was incredibly thorough and I was very happy with my results. She didn't try to tell me to put fancy ointments on or anything like that if I had irritation, but recommended coconut oil. I just cannot say enough about my experience. She always customizes my facials to suit my skin type and takes into account hormonal changes that come with pregnancies, climate, lifestyle changes. She uses superior products that help balance skin to minimize break outs and optimize skin radiance. I always share skin care concerns and come up with a long term goal with her. She's not only licensed, but maintains her certifications and keeps updated on the latest treatments and products available. My eyebrows were perfect and the brazilian only took about 30 minutes. I was impressed since I receive an hour for lunch. Syeda was pleasant for both services and answered all of my questions. *Had the keratin treatment done with Cari. I made an appointment with Cari for the keratin treatment. I have had this service done many times in the past with other stylists and at other salons. She charged me $100 more than I've ever been charged before. I was told the service started at $250. I have longer hair, but it is thinner and healthy. She charged me $350! I thought that seemed like a big jump in price. She does not use the Coppola keratin treatment that I've had done in the past, unfortunately I did not know that, as their website states they do. The keratin product she used did not go on my hair smooth. It hurt while she flat ironed it because her flat iron would get caught and pull my hair the entire time because of the texture of this product. Normally it's more of a gel/serum and very smooth. After she was done my hair did not have the immediate shine it always had in the past. It looked dull. She assured me it would improve and I would love it after washing it. Since washing it there is still some frizz. It definitely helped, but it did not eliminate it like the treatments in the past always have. I would not recommend having this service done here. *please note. I did not ask for Cari specifically nor remember her once there until she reminded me. She, on the other hand, did know me prior, as she told her mom who I was. Also, I have driven even further for this treatment as it is hard to find salons that offer it. I came here because there wasn't another that I knew of or could find closer offering it and I was hoping she would do a nice job. My X SIL used to do this treatment perfectly, and I was hoping her old coworkers would have too but that wasn't the case. This review is fact based and solely based on my actual experience. I have been going to Andrea for about 6 years now and she is one of the more experienced stylist in my opinion. She know her stuff and very well. If you show her what you want and she doesn't think she can do it or it won't look how maybe you think it should on you she will definitely make you aware. She's great at color!!!! Andrea is well worth what she charges.... She's naturally fast with getting the cut and color done properly... She is awesome with individuals with lots of hair. I would recommend Andrea at Xentric. She is the only one I have worked with there so I cannot comment on the other stylist. The no chip manicure is well worth it there too, my mom use to get her nails done and even through dishwashing and all the water her hands have been in the manicure would last up to 3 weeks. read more

Made an appointment for a brazilian wax here on none other than Valentine's day. I was able to get an appointment within the day and even within a few hours which was extremely convenient. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The front desk woman and Gaya, the woman who waxed me, both asked me if I had a groupon. I did not, so they both said they would give me the discount anyway! It was extremely thoughtful of them and a great way to keep me wanting to come back because I know they care about the client. So basically Gaya was my Valentine's date. And she was wonderful! The wax itself was extremely clean and thorough. You can tell she cares about her service. In regards to pain, it's a wax so if you're a pro it's what it always is. She didn't take long which is what counts when it comes to the pain factor. She is extremely pleasant and sweet so nothing was awkward. Gaya, if you're reading this, thank you for being a great Valentine's. Also, because of the friendly conversation with Gaya and the staff, I learned they have henna there which is pretty cool. Between the service I experienced and it being very close to home, I'm completely won over. The location is on the same strip as Brunch Cafe and Dunkin Donuts and a gas station. Honestly, this location is prime. It's so convenient. You can literally schedule a part of your day around this area. (Ex. Breakfast with friends and run in to the salon for an appointment or vice versa.) Reason for it not being 5 stars is because I had to wait a little after my appointment time. For that day it really didn't matter because I wasn't in a rush, but if you are depending on that time it could be inconvenient- so just a heads up. *this review is for Brazilian wax service only* (I'm sure other salon services are great) I tried Xentrik out looking for a place I could visit from time to time that's less expensive and closer to my home when the place I normally go in Glenview can't get me in. I now see why I pay so much at my normal salon and will never go anywhere else. They charged me a groupon price which, thank god, because this was definitely the most traumatic waxing experience I've ever had. First I will say, I asked for Syeda and she wasn't in. She might be great, I'm not sure. I was given someone who was her fill in. I will also say that I am not a skinny twig of a girl, so waxing with chubby legs in the way isn't the easiest, I understand. This wax was just very bad. It was so painful and she didn't even come close to getting all the hair off of me. She also used hard wax in some places which she claimed was better, but it actually hurt more and was a very awkward process as they have to flick the wax off of you instead of using the wax sheets (if you are unfamiliar with hard wax, look it up. It really doesn't belong down there). I've also realized the difference between a good wax and an excruciating wax: baby powder. They use almost none here whereas the place I normally go powders every inch of you...it makes it MUCH less painful. I was sore for a good 4 days following this wax, it's normally only 1 or 2 days for me. She also pulled my skin in really awkward and painful ways, which was very unpleasant as well. I'm really bummed because this place was great (and WAY cheaper than where I had been going-Brow Art-in the mall) for eyebrow threading but I probably won't be going back because of this review. But I had to warn other ladies. An inexpensive wax seems enticing, but you get what you pay for. read more

I have used many services at Xentrik beauty lounge. I love the service and the employees's are great. I have been looking for a good nail salon for over a year. So glad to have found Xentrik. I wanted to try them out for awhile before righting a review. I I have been getting gel nails done by Cari since march 2012, and they are awesome. They look like my real nail and feel real as well. The pedicure's are amazing, they last a full hour! Rita does the facials which are like heaven. I have never had one before but now am spoiled. For the facials they have a referral program going on now that if you refer someone you receive $20 off your next facial. I have also gotten spray tanned her as well, loved it! The salon also offers a drink during services! It's a beautiful salon, friendly environment, and a great atmosphere for pampering! read more

Was here last week and was never more disappointed and DISGUSTED! I have been coming to Xentrik since it opened and in that time it has changed owners twice I believe. Well, whoever owns it now has no clue what they are doing. Before there was always someone sweeping up hair and cleaning up, NOW hair just piles up until the extremely busy stylists have a second between clients to do it on a busy day that's a lot of hair and product to sit in (all the time the girl sitting behind the front desk just sits and stares at her phone) I usually get my eyebrows done when I am there but since they don't know that wax can actually become too hot and they burned a friend of mine a few weeks back! Don't think that threading is safe either BOTH women are completely unprofessional and not good at what they do. I'll find somewhere else to go. If the village has a city inspector they should pay a visit and make them clean!!! My heart breaks for the talented stylists and nail technicians who started in a great location and have ended up having to bring clients into a filthy shop.. read more

Went in here for just a regular bikini and told them several times I wanted just a regular bikini wax . When I got into the room I explained once again that it would just be a regular bikini on the sides. The woman who waxed me started to put wax on places I did not ask her to and did a French bikini instead and I asked her if it would be an extra charge and she told me no . When I went up to pay I was told 25$ instead of the 15$ I was told over the phone . You shouldn't trick customers into paying something they did not ask for . Then I called and tried to explain that I did not ask for that type of wax and the lady who answered was so rude and angry at me and told me I should have known . I already asked the lady who did the wax so how am I going to know . Over all a horrible experience and I will never be coming back here . The lady on the phone was very rude and had horrible customer service . *update today is the day after my wax and I can see the hair right at my skin . I thought with a wax it's pulled from the root and it's right at my skin. This was a cheap place to wax but not the best . Next time I'm definitely going to a more professional place that actually knows how to wax .i shouldn't be seeing little hair follicles on top of my skin. read more
