For some time I had been ordering take out Chinese from NMH but recently the food has been bland. Then located Xin and decided to give them a shot. Ordered some chicken corn soup and beef lo mein and they did not disappoint. The lo mein was flavorful. The corn soup was not thick. Just right. Again for American Chinese take out, they didn't disappoint. But I would definitely request for less sugar. Chinese food is not supposed to be sweet. Look forward to my next order with them. I have been ordering takeout from here ever since I moved into Nutley back in 2001. I can't say if they are still the original owners from back in the day but what I can tell you is that the food has always been consistently good. I was so excited to find general Tso's tofu. It was delicious. I understand making tofu is a pain in the ass & that's why they don't offer it for a lunch special. I like to make my own food but I cannot make good tofu. They have a lot of vegan & vegetarian options which makes them far superior to most Chinese restaurants around. I will pass on the dead pig bits, thank you. Now, I'd they would just stop using so much damn plastic. The worst Chinese food I have ever had. We order sesame chicken and general to chicken, and they both tasted and looked the same except the sesame chicken has a few sesame seeds sprinkled on top. We asked for all white meat and were charged but I can assure we did not get all white meat !!! We definitely will not order from there again!! Finally!! Two years after moving to the area and we've only just found a really good Chinese restaurant (we've tried well over a dozen). 4.5 stars. Like others said, the customer service is great, and delivery is fast and friendly. We have tried a bunch of stuff here, and were genuinely pleased with almost all of it. Favorites so far are the egg drop soup, BBQ spare ribs, moo goo gai pan, and fried rice. I found the wonton soup to be less successful, but certainly not bad. They have family specials for 2, 4, 6, or 8 people at ridiculously great prices. For example, the Dinner for Two is two egg rolls, choice of a quart of soup, pork fried rice, and two choices from a preset entree menu. All for $22.95! If I could give this restaurant zero stars I would. My friends mom ordered Chinese takeout from here and when our order came they gave us someone else's order. What happened was the owner stapled our correct receipt to the wrong bag of food. We called the restaurant back to say that we received the wrong order. The owner said they would bring our correct order, and we said thank you. However, because we felt bad and did not want to create more hassle, we called the owner back and told her that we would keep the wrong order and not to worry about it. The owner wanted to charge us extra for our actual food and we said no we'll just take the wrong order that you gave us and that's it. We had both agreed that we'll keep the wrong order and not to worry about our original food. She did not offer any discounts or credit for food in the future which was really disappointing since we have ordered from this restaurant countless timesss. As we finished eating the delivery man came back and handed us our original order and did not ask for anything. We thought maybe the owner talked to him and told us that he could just give us the food as compensation for messing up our order. We felt this was an extremely nice gesture. We then get a call back from the owner because she was upset that the driver gave us our original food and we did not pay money for the food we had already paid for the first time. The driver had came back and had us talk to the owner again on his phone. The owner was SCREAMING at us through the phone to pay for an order that she messed up when we had already paid for. Because it is 8:30 pm on a Saturday night we were tired of the owner being extremely disrespectful and rude over the phone we gave the driver back the food we had not touched. Needless to say we will never order from here again because of the horrible service from this owner that we were regular customers for. I can't begin to understand how a business owner can treat regular paying customers like this especially when she was the one who messed up our order in the first place. Got some take out Lotta food for a cheap price I eat very small portions. But the family meal fed everyone included soda, soup and egg rolls with oramge chicken and gen tsaos . 2 rices, white anf fried. i was upset tgere wasnt any duck sauce or soy sauce included. We ordered here because our regular restaurant had messed up our order too many times. My grandkids loved the chicken and broccoli. The lo mei that I ordered was filled with delish vegetables. Y husband had moshing beef. He said it was terrific. The spring rolls were fought over. We had such a great meal. Finally, it came to our condo on time and was delivered politely. I go here at least 10 times a year, and there food is always good. I personally love their egg drop noodle soup and there sesame chicken. Despite the not so great reviews of this wonderful place if is so good. You can't really eat there, so it is more of a takeout place. You should grab a menu, call to order, and pick up for the best experience. That is what I usually do and I enjoy these delicious meals with my family. If you don't wanna cook, are tired, or just want a delicious experience I would recommend you eat here. Even if it may not be the most appealing, the food is delicious! The staff are really friendly (I gave her a small tip, and she gave me two liters of soda!). Although some reviews claimed she was unkind, I have gone here since 2006, and had never had any problems. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE****** If I can save someone some money and a horrible eating experience, this review will absolutely be worth the 5 minutes out of my day it took to write it. This is, by far, the WORST chinese place I could have ever ordered from. From the service to the food and everything in between - just HORRIBLE. When I called to place the order, the man on the phone was beyond rude and grouchy. The food arrived 50 minutes later (we ordered two lunch specials and considering what I'm about to say regarding the food next.... I CANNOT even begin to attempt to understand why it took so long). Soooo, the food finally comes and when we go to take it out, we see that the plate is filled with rice and a thin top layer of our meat is placed on top. (the smallest portion of meat + the enough rice for a family = NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR!). I ordered the general tso's chicken with a side of rice- not an order of rice with HALF A SIDE of the general tso's chicken. Okay, so disappointment #1 right there... can't really get much worse, can it? OHHHH, it ABSOLUTELY can! The rice tasted watery & was a goo-like texture and the "chicken" (not really sure if I can call it that), was rubbery & FAKE. I took one bite (not only could I not even bite through the "chicken", but it was the most disgusting thing that I think I have ever put into my mouth. I immediately spit it out and couldn't even give the meal another shot. My husband and I both threw our meals out (he got the chicken & broccli) and needless to say, we were still hungry and out of 18 bucks and the time to order a new lunch. =/ WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I've gotten food here before and it's usually good. But I just got my order of sesame beef and I just can't. When I opened the container, I thought they gave me the wrong item because it looked and smelled like sesame chicken. Then I realized the beef was BREADED. Who breads beef? I live down the street from XIN's and have ordered a number of times and have found the food made there very tasty. There is no ambiance, fancy tables or hanging chinese lamps, what you get is what you want good take-out or eat in Chinese food. Barbque spare ribs are very meaty, they have the best pork fried rice around, their shrimp in black bean sauce is killer.. Hot & Sour soup is good as well. This is the third time I've ordered from Xin's restaurant. I walked in today around 1:30 p.m. . The place was very quiet and it didn't appear that anyone was doing any cooking. In one corner of the restaurant was a disgruntled customer who had been waiting for his order for so long that he ran over his lunch hour. He kept asking the man at the register how much longer and kept getting the answer "10 minutes." I should have walked out then. Somewhere in the background was a young man perhaps cooking but I think he was actually just washing up. The man at the front desk had no sense of urgency, made no eye or verbal contact and couldn't even tell me how much my total order would cost. When my order was finally completed, I had to review the contents because he was not sure if it was complete. I had to remind him that the order came with rice etc., cookies. Sigh. Went home and opened my order and thankfully, everything was in order. HAVING SAID THAT, I will never, ever order anything with beef from them again This was my third order of beef with broccoli and every time the meat is grizzly and chewy. Even my cat wouldn't eat it That was a lost cause. Tonight I am suffering from stomach cramps...not necessarily from their cooking. I think just remembering that disgusting chewy beef turned my stomach. Three times and you're out. No more patronage for this restaurant. read more
