My Gear shift locked in Reverse picking up sight seeing out of town family-stranded on S Michigan Ave in Chicago, right in front of Millennium Park, right in front of a hotspot for the Hotel and deliveries to local businesses!! Although it was a long wait on a busy street in downtown Chicago, my Yaffo guy was able to access the release and get the car movable. I did not need the tow and was able to get my car home safely, 30+ miles away. Thank you sooooo much to the gentleman who showed up on June 27th (2022). You were a ray of sunshine in my dark cloud of Michigan Ave scariness!!! And you saved me from having to send you away with my car to carry on to my original destination and I did not have to find a ride to the train station to get home that night!!!!! My wife got a flat tire while driving to work, so I headed out to take care of it while she wen't on about her day. Not being a car person, I called XL to try and get some help with the tire. The woman on the phone was super nice, took my information and apologized that it would be 60-90 minutes until someone could get there (morning rush hour and all). She said that there were a couple of other places that might have more availability, but I decided just to stay with XL, since I was in a Target parking lot and not blocking traffic. When XL showed up, the guy was nice, quick and competent. He took a quick look at my axle as well and mentioned that I might want to get it checked out, but didn't try and push a garage on me. He made an extra effort to make sure the paperwork was all filled out to insurance standards in case I wanted to file a claim. Then he refused the tip I offered, saying it was all just his job. I hope I won't need roadside assistance again soon, but if so, XL will be who I call. read more

The driver showed up ON time and put my car on the tow truck super fast - took ten minutes! Total Pro. I was able to get my car to the dealership on time. My car would not start and the brake had seized. There was no way the car was going to start. I had two (2) towing companies come that State Farm called. Neither were able to move my car even though I explained the situation and the difficulties moving my car out of the underground garage. State Farm finally called XL Towing. They came ON TIME. Having to get your car towed is a stressful situation. I must say that stress is made easier when the organization your dealing with is fast, fair, professional, and friendly. I appreciated dealing with Marty on the phone. He seemed like a no nonsense type of guy, but offered me a fair price and was kind. Above and beyond amazing service. Had a tow truck at the scene of my accident within 30 minutes of making the call. Marty, who answered the call and dispatched the truck was friendly, calming and empathetic even while having to interrupt the dispatch in going back and forth with CPD and our conversation. When the tow truck pulled up, Jerry hopped out and immediately got to work. Also extremely kind and empathetic to the situation and hauled my totaled car away and assured me their daily rates would not gouge my insurance company (which later the adjuster mentioned he not believe how cheap it was to hold my car for a few days after seeing Chicago tow yard rates over the years). A week after the accident, I went to their yard, cleaned out my car and Marty was there to let me into their yard. This company towed my car from a legal spot and did not bother to put ANY form of documentation on the internet. I woke up to my car missing one day and searched online for where it could have been towed to. There were no signs by where my car had been parked. I did not find any information on my car, so I filed an insurance claim and reported a stolen vehicle to the police. The police informed me that they could not find my vehicle at the time. The SAME night, my girlfriend parked in the same lot that I was parked in. We go to her car to find it missing. We find a tow sign on the other side of the lot and went to XL Towing to get her car. I find my car directly next to hers. WHY did I not know that my car had been towed? If my girlfriend did not also get her car towed, I would have not ever seen my car again since XL Towing decided 1) not to post any documentation online of my vehicle and 2) not even try to contact me. THEN, I pay the $212 to get my car out of the lot and I see that I got towed for "no permit". From a spot that is not a permit spot. From a spot that I have been parking in consistently for over 1.5 years. Their location is dark and sketchy. Not one light in the lot. The employee was not friendly. He took his money and opened the gate for us to leave. So not only did I get towed for an invalid reason, I had NO IDEA that my car had been towed and would have gone out and bought a new car and filed a FALSE insurance claim! If only I could get my money back for the amount of stress this ridiculous towing company has caused me. This company is a joke and is looking for any questionable vehicles to snatch up and make some extra cash. Be careful where you park in Chicago! read more

The last thing I needed was to worry about where my car would be towed and how I would get home after an accident. This review is long overdue. This company came through for me in a HUGE way. I woke up in early December my car on a cinderblock and a brick. My car's trunk was on the ground basically. Let's just say I had an emotional reaction and then I had to start adulting. This, per usual, proved difficult. I needed a special mind of tow truck since my car had no tires. I have one spare. Not four. My insurance company was basically worthless. They were more than fine with leaving my car in that condition until Monday. This was Friday. I was not ok with this especially after I learned the city has a right to impound it?! Bloody hell. I spend probably 30 min or so cold calling tow companies. By the time I hit this one my emotions were back in play. I was probably 5 hours into unraveling this mess at this point. Talking to Sherry is not only what I needed for my car but for like my soul at that point. She calmed me down and frankly got shit done. I had a flat bed truck at my house around 5 pm. The driver was nice to me. This is after he crosses the entire city in a giant truck at like 4:30 on a Friday. He's nice to me. He's assuring me everything will work out and get figured out. Sherry is helping me navigate insurance to make sure I'm not charged for this tow. He's putting baby tires on my car to keep it safer. I don't know what sort of voodoo magic goes on at this shop, but you will have my business for life and I will always refer anyone I know to this shop. Sheila, the representative over the phone, was courteous, professional, and went above and beyond for me. I'd gotten locked out of my car, and when I told her who I was insured with, she told me they did business with them and gave me their number (I didn't have the Roadside Assistance number because I'd left my wallet at home) so that I could save money. Somebody (and I wish I would've gotten his name, too, because he was prompt and professional) was there to open my door immediately. I recently broke down in the middle of a rainstorm on the Dan Ryan expressway and it was late at night. I have an 05 Escape. I called my insurance and they said it would be 60 to 90 minutes. The latter being said, I called XL Towing and they arrived within 20 mins. Their driver was great and their dispatcher was very accommodating. So this company is used by the apartment complex I live in. In order to park my car there I am required to park in a specific spot along with a window decal. I am complaint in all these things, so imagine coming out to run some errands and your vehicle is gone. Immediately I knew they had my car. I call the # listed on the sign in the parking lot. A guy on the phone tells me they have my car. I asked why did you all steal my car, he states we didn't steal your car. I reply you did, my car is not illegal parked, all required parking needs where met. So if you have my car you've stolen it. I had to go to the management office at my complex. The office secretary contacted the tow company. XL told her my car did not have a parking decal in the window, she requested a photo of the car. To check for herself to see, about 15 minutes go by no picture. The secretary calls back and ask what happened with the photo. And magically Now the decal in the window is visible and they made a mistake. Oooh okay you stole my car. When I got my car back it was covered in mud, like I had been off roading. I'm looking to seek legal action, because this was foul foul foul. read more

Mike did a fantastic job of carefully removing my large SUV from our cramped underground parking garage. I honestly didn't believe he would be to move it without somehow scraping it along a wall/another car, but he managed to get it out in pristine condition. The dealer was closed by the time we got it out of the garage, so he took it back to XL's own facility and texted me a picture of the car in their secured lot so that I would know that it was safe. OHH MY GOD, A TOWING AGENCY THAT ACTUALLY CARES AND WORKS WITH YOU! I had my car towed from a private garage due to my negligence (the fatal act of being assured by a friend it was ok to park). The last thing I expected was to show up to a tow yard and actually receive a high level of customer service and no wait. When my car was towed I immediately started reading reviews and was very skeptical that the reviews about this company were true, considering so many companies write their own reviews on yelp, but after getting to the yard and dealing with the people I realized that the reviews written are actually true. My story: So my car is towed (a topic which instantly ruins your day). I call the company, they assure me my car is there. I cant get a ride until the next day considering a cab would have ended up costing me the same as another day of storage. I wait the extra day and go down to XL. I get there and immediately am greeted and explained the situation. I barley had enough money for the tow. The people working are not only quite friendly but help me out with storage rates when they see how much of a bind I am in financially. I end up having to use multiple cards to charge the towing fee to. I will now mention this is a private towing agency, In the past I have had my car towed by the city and the ordeal to get my vehicle back was absolutely outrageous. I had to return to the city's tow yard 3 different times over 2 days, not to mention the wait was horrendous and the people working at the city pound were some of the cruelest people I had ever met. In retrospect, dealing with this company was a pleasure. They helped me every way they could and the owner of the company assured me how aware they are that the towing industry is a dirty business but assured me that's why they got into it, to clean it up and set a new standard. The owner of the business tells me that she decided to start this business after dealing with some crazy experience she and family had encountered in the past. All in all I would recommend this business to anyone facing the unfortunate situation of needing a tow. To be able to walk away not full of rage for the impound industry was quite the surprise, this company deserves a high level of respect and is the cleanest company in the business I have ever encountered. read more

My car died a couple nights ago right around the corner from the United Center right after the Blackhawks game, so it was 11 pm. My car died at Damen & Van Buren, it was 1 degree out. Several hundred cars honked at us and yelled at us - Merry Christmas. Anyway, we called our insurance company and they told us it be at least 3 hours. Figuring they were going for the cheapest option, we called on our own and found XL Towing. They were great. Sheila on the phone was terrific - both helpful and sympathetic to the fact that we were in serious trouble (bad neighborhood, dangerously cold, late at night). She found a tow truck for us and had him there in 40 minutes. He was very nice and let us ride with him in the truck - all the way to elmhurst. Customer Service is terrible. My car was towed on 4/2/2016 and as soon as I picked it up, my car started leaking oil. Turns out whoever towed my car either did not know what they were doing or was rushing because they put a hole in my oil pan. It cost over $400 to replace...Do not do business with these amateurs. I contacted XL towing to see what they could do as far as reimbursing me the amount I paid to get it fixed since they are fully responsible for the damage, and I was told to contact the police. How inconsiderate. I sure will. I made sure to keep the oil pan and also took pictures. read more
