The facility, mats, changing room, restroom, and shower was immaculately clean. They had air conditioning and a water fountain. There is a separate room for changing and leaving your items in a cubby, so the side of the mat was tidy. The instructor, nicknamed Rasta, was a super friendly and funny brown belt. He was teaching a fundamentals class for white belts. But for us blue and brown belts, he showed us some extra stuff with the lapel called the "English handcuff." During the situational and open rolls, Rasta kept in mind our injuries, and found ways to control and tap us without being mean or being a bully. He showed us a lot of respect and humor. I would definitely come back if I'm ever in Scottsdale again!

There are 2 other Gracie gyms closer to me, but I chose this place due to the instructor's experience and I'm very happy I did. All the instructors are fantastic with teaching techniques and they all are very personable. The focus is on technique and safety. I walked in without knowing anyone and in a short time, I feel like I'm part of a family. My fellow students are great and everyone helps each other no matter what age or skill level. Nobody has an ego that I've experienced. I go as often as I can and when I travel for business or can't go, I really miss the place. I look forward to each class. Highly recommended -
