Honestly pretty bad experience here my first time. Barber didn't listen to me and insisted on doing what he thought would look good when I gave specific instructions. Had to get a haircut recently but was strapped for time so I couldn't get to my normal guy. Looking at the fancy-ish places by where I worked, I finally found Xtreme Cuts. it looked like a simple men's barber shop, not too expensive and not fancy. Perfect! Walking in, the guys are very friendly and there's no wait for barber. Good start, but it was a mixed bag form there. A nice older gentleman did my hair, but he took a very long time. My hair is already short so it normally takes normally about 20-30 minutes to cut. He was extremely meticulous which is fine, but he also didn't listen to me when I said what I wanted; he kept trying to convince me that the longer haircut he was trying to give me was better. What was kind of aggravating was that he kept leaving it too long even after I asked him to take more off, and would only make the smallest of adjustments when asked. At the end I had to leave because he had spent an hour on my hair and I had to get back to work for a meeting. My hair was much longer than I wanted it to be, and I ended up going to get my hair cut at my normal spot after like 2 weeks when I normally wait 4-6 weeks. To be clear it didn't look bad at the time, but my hair grows in weird so the follow up cut was very necessary. Good place if you want the barber to decide how your hair should look, not good if you're more particular like me. Maybe some of the other guys are better at listening, or the old dude was having a bad day. Would come back if I ever decide to completely switch things up or if I'm really strapped for time. read more

I just got back from my 3rd visit with Yuri, and this haircut was every bit as good as the first two, perhaps even better. This place is definitely a hidden gem. I have longer hair for a man, and curly, which sometimes makes it difficult for people to get correct and even, but Yuri gets it absolutely right every time, and gets every special request right too - a little but shorter on the sides this time. Perfect! In addition, I have to say he's one of the nicest people I've ever met, and I enjoy the conversations as much as the hairstyle. Same goes for his coworkers Robert and Michael. The fellas here are great! Super friendly, welcoming and great customer service. But the best part is that they can cut. When I moved to NYC almost 2 years ago, the first place I went to was one of the nationally renowned shops we all read about when we Google, "best barber shops, NYC". Except I left spending $50 for hardly a cut and an unseeable mini-hole in the back of my head. Admittedly, Asian hair can be very challenging to cut, so I consulted a fellow Korean friend of mine and he told me about Xtreme Cuts. Sure enough, the guys know what their doing! I used to bounce around from barber to barber, desperately trying to find a place that took real pride in their work and that focused more on quality rather than volume of customers (i.e. rushing you out to get the next person in). I was always unhappy with the result until I found Xtreme Cuts. I have been going to Robert for 10 years now and have traveled from far and wide to always go back. Even when I moved across the country, I would wait until I was back in New York to get a haircut. Robert takes in so many factors when cutting your hair (how long between cuts you go, the texture of your hair, the shape of your face, etc.) and takes his time to make sure you're happy with the result. They are one of the few places that are skilled at straight razor hot shaves, too. On my last trip, he even shaped up my 1 year old son (after a local kids barber butchered his hair). His skills as a barber aside, he is also just a great person to talk to during the cut and gets to know his clients. If you're looking for a great cut and/or shave, this is the place! read more

This is a long time in coming. I found David at Wall Street, which he left soon after. I followed him to Soho, where he is now. I used to commute from the UES to get to him - now I commute from Boston. He's that good. David is a master of his craft, a father of two, a world traveler, and a hell of a guy. Did I mention that men's haircuts are $25? It's the best haircut I've ever gotten, over and over and over, and it's $25. Don't you dare pay $25. It's worth 3x that. Split the difference. The problem I have had with other barbers/stylists is that they'll look at my hair and see how it was cut last time and basically just re-form it. The issue with that is if there were any mistakes the last time they end up getting more and more pronounced with each subsequent cut until you end up with some weird floppy piece that sticks out over one side of your head. I had enough of that so I asked around online and this is the place people recommended. I've had my hair cut by (probably) everyone who works here and it's been good every time. None of the lazy stuff I've experienced elsewhere. Extremely dissatisfied. Haircut wasn't so good he charged me and my 2 yr old son $90! Rushed haircut and didn't cut much. Kept tellingme its better this way. Me cut and shave and him a cut. This is easily the best barbershop in the SoHo area. David has been cutting my hair for years and always does a great job. I started coming here because I got a bad haircut somewhere else and then tried to fix it myself. It was a mess. David took me in and fixed me right up and from then on I won't go to anyone else. Robert and Yuri have been cutting my friends hair for years also. I work with at least 10 other people that come to this shop religiously for their cuts. Finding a good barber is hard. You get what you pay for--a $20 haircut. Yelp reviews are off the charts so I thought I'd get an incredible value, but it's a cut that looks like $15-20. The guy cutting my hair was arrogant. Said to show him any picture--he'd know exactly what the barber used... exactly how to replicate it, yet every time I pulled a picture up he'd say there wasn't enough detail. Even images I've shown hair stylists in the past. If you want someone with their finger on the pulse of what's current, this isn't the place. But that was pretty apparent as soon as I set foot in the place, and I shouldn't have stayed. The guy who cut my hair wore a very sloppy, outdated style himself. He had no idea how to texture my sides so that they'd lie naturally, and butchered my top so that it makes no intuitive sense when I style it. With a good cut, styling my hair takes a couple minutes. With this cut, it takes quite a while to hide the shortcomings. If you're used to a salon-quality cut, don't look to this place to cut corners. If you're not too picky and just need less hair than you currently have, I'm sure this place works fine. I'm heading to my regular barber tomorrow to fix the mistakes that were made here. read more

The spot for an affordable, awesome haircut in SoHo/all of New York. Xtreme Cuts has been my go-to barber shop since moving to NYC a year ago. When I first moved, I tried a barber shop I knew from back home and was thoroughly disappointed with the quality of the fade and cut. A friend of mine who has lived in SoHo and frequented Xtreme Cuts for years suggested I could trust any barber there. He has never been disappointed. To this day, at least a dozen haircuts later, neither have I. I have crazy, thick hair that grows fast, poofs to no end, and never cuts very well. Since I've been a regular at Xtreme Cuts, I've gone through three different hairstyles and been happy with the results of each of them. My hair is shorter now than it's been in at least fifteen years, and I don't know if I would've trusted anyone outside of the guys at Xtreme Cuts to take care of me like that. Aside from the haircuts, which, again, are great and have only gotten better and better the more they get to know my particularly difficult hair, the whole vibe of the barber shop works. You can go in, sit down, and not say a word if you're in the mood, or otherwise, expect a lively conversation with any one, or all, of the four barbers usually working. There are a host of regulars that come in on a weekly basis and everyone at Xtreme Cuts is looking out for each other. I usually call a day or two in advance to schedule an appointment, but I have also called with only a few hours notice, and they'll try to make it work. Including the time when I showed up thirty minutes late and someone stayed late to cut my hair (don't do it, but again they're looking out for you the best they can). Overall, this barber shop delivers on all fronts.
