I grew up in Miami but left about 40 years ago for Tallahassee. Put simply, we just don't have much authentic Jamaican cuisine available at my end of the state. So, if you're already a fan of YAAD Spice, you will almost certainly appreciate Eva's in Jacksonville. The food was absolutely delicious at Yaad Spice. I had the chicken with rice and peas and a bit of plantain. The cabbage was crunchy, fresh and tasty. The chicken was tender and delicious. We grow our own hot peppers and after some discussion I asked the cook about the peppers and learned they are using scotch bonnet peppers. My wife observed the flavor profile is very similar to our own datil peppers. Anyway, my wife and son got beef dishes which they thoroughly enjoyed. My son and I ordered ginger beer and my wife got a pineapple soda, they were a choice to accompany a great meal. I can't say that driving across the state is a joy, but stopping at Yaad Spice was an excellent choice to stop, stretch our legs and get a great meal before pushing on for a long day on the highway. read more

Love the chicken , however as a palm beach native/ jamaican, very disappointed in the jerk pork i just received. VERY DRY. Like it's been sitting the warmer all day losing tenderness. This is my go to Jamaican restaurant in west palm beach. I always get the oxtails/ curry goat combo. The food is so delicious and is reasonably priced. I also get the mannish water on Saturdays but please call ahead because they're always out . The only complaint that I have about yaad spice is that they rarely pick up the phone on the first call. I usually have to call multiple times to place my to go order . They are usually busy so I try not to get to annoyed by it. Give them a try! read more

Came here during their lunch special. You can get jerk, stew, or curry chicken with rice and peas for$5.50 and it includes a water bottle. The portion is decent and good enough for lunch. I got the stew chicken with rice and beans and cabbage. The rice was good the stew chicken was alright. I've had better but for this price you can't complain. We found a hole in the wall joint near our hotel. We were there 1 hour before closing. We were looking forward to having oxtail stew, unfortunately they ran out- it must be that good. We settled for goat curry & chicken curry, it us served with boiled cabbage (sliced cabbage,carrots, peas) & rice with peas... not the green peas, brown eyed peas. Both curry was very good, the rice with peas went very well with the curry. The steamed cabbage was bland, however once you mixed with the curry- it went well. When you walked into the restaurant, you have to order at the counter & pay for your food, next to the counter was a room where you can have a meal, they do not serve water, you have to buy bottled water, so bring your own water. The girl at the counter was not friendly... it is a good thing that this was not a full serve place. read more

In my quest to find authentic food from various locations I take some risk based on previous reviewers. This place is definitely a fail, nothing here was good..... seriously nothing, from service to food quality. I ordered the stew chicken roti (wrapped) this was a disaster meal. The wrap came undone as soon as it was picked up and the meat was hard and chewy almost as if it was reheated several times. The oxtail was mostly bone and sauce, hardly any meat on the bones. I let it go and called and let them know, the girl said can come and get what what ever I want. Went there today 6/21/19 got roti instead of rice with the curry goat and the roti has cornmeal falling out of it !!! I can't believe it!! We have ordered form this place plenty of times at which there have been multiple times our order was wrong. Today we ordered 5 lunch specials, only received 4 and 2 of the 4 were wrong. When we called they gave us a hard time and the run around. We work in the operating room and do not have time to keep running out to get the correct meals. Generous portion, good price, and amazing flavor! They serve you one small sliced plantain with your platter, very small side of mixed greens (cabbage, carrots and baby green beans). They also sell fried fish and dumplings (incase you don't know, fried dumpling is fried ball of bread the size of a baseball with a rather sweet taste to it).
