What a gem of a bakery in Somerville! Every dessert on display at this cozy, Palestinian-owned bakery looked so scrumptious. We had such a hard time choosing and settled on the walnut baklava roll and the muska kataifi pisatchio. Everyone working there was so friendly and helpful and even with a line out the door, they were able to keep things moving smoothly. They also gave us small chai samples while we waited to be helped (the chai was spicy and not overly sweet). The baklava and kataifi were perfect -- no notes. Baklava had a great ratio of flaky pastry layers to walnuts. Each bite had the right about of crunch and nuttiness. The amount of syrup used was just right also. Kataifi struck a similarly great balance: a crunchy and sweet shredded wheat exterior rounded out by the richness of pistachios. I wish I could come here all the time and try everything. My very first time to try Palestinian desserts, in this small but wonderful café titled "2023 Best New Bakery" and "2024 Best Bakery" in "Best of Boston". Harissa: Sweet but not overwhelming, fragrant yet not greasy, it was what traditional desserts supposed to be. And what I appreciate most is its muffin-like moist and smooth texture. Baklava Rolls / Walnut: Crispy on the outside, while sugary and nutty fragrant on the inside. The aroma of cinnamon and cardamom were mild and easy to accept. It kind of reminded me of the Almond Roca candy. To emphasize, the service was unexpectedly considerate. As a new customer, I simply asked the assistant for recommendations, and she offered me samples of 4 kinds of desserts and a cup of Yafa Chai Karak to try. I'd walk past this bakery every now and then to find out it's been featured in Boston's Best article so I added it to my list. Finally got to try them recently. Walked in and was greeted with a sample of chai and 2 sample desserts. Ordered the chocolate pistachio cake, This was like Dubai chocolate styled cake with the kataifi in the pistachio. This was nice, I personally could have done without the layer of chocolate on top since it's so hard to break evenly and it was thick in texture to the rest of the cake. The pistachio ricotta cake was phenomenal. I wasn't expecting it to be so light and airy, I had to hold myself back from inhaling the whole thing at once. She helped to walk me through the items, answered my many questions, and I ended up putting together a delicious spread, all of things I'd never tried. I also loved the mint tea. So refreshing! Service: Oh my gosh, I've been dying to try Yafa Bakery and Cafe in Somerville for months! As a South Asian girl who loves Middle Eastern food, I felt like I was in my own world here. It's so hard to find authentic and traditional Muslim desserts that are pistachio and rose flavored in Boston. The owner is super warm and welcoming, like he's your own family member. He'll give you samples of little treats and pick out some drinks for you. Ambiance: Yada Bakery and Cafe is decorated with so many beautiful cultural and artistic pieces that make you feel like you're in a beautiful Palestinian bakery. The books on display and the plants and art work are really eye-catching and make you think. I was totally mesmerized by every corner of this amazing place. I'll definitely be back! Food: I tried the Yafa chai, the cheese and spinach fatayer, manaqeesh, hummus, and a bunch of other yummy sweets. I have nothing but great things to say about this cafe. The fatayer and maanaqeesh paired perfectly with the hummus. The rose and pistachio dessert was rich and decadent, and it left my sweet tooth happy. I've been meaning to visit this place for a long time and finally made it. The shop is small but cozy, there's a line because they take their time with each customer. An amazing neighborhood gem! The small bakery is warm, welcoming and full of delicious decadent sweet and savory baked goods. A box of their sweets is a sure hit at any gatherings! I've only been there twice and have tried 5-6 different items but they've all been nothing short of impressive. I'm going to try everything there, a few items at a time bc there are so many. If you get lucky and go when the owner is there, he will gladly let you sample a few of the sweets as well. His hospitality and pride for his shop made the trip that much more special. Each piece (no matter how big or small) is crafted with love and attention to detail. I loved how not overly sweet and the different profiles of flavors there were. From rose water to dates, star anis to diff nuts.. Their savory counter is also delicious. THe Jerusalem bagel is huge and full of sesame. In a few words I can say that it was a totally delightful experience! We ended up visiting Yafa on my birthday after watching a video about the most interesting Arab places to eat in the Boston area in which this bakery was featured at and it definitely deserves to be on the list of best places to eat in the Boston. In addition to the delicious coffee and chai tea that we enjoyed very much, we ordered several pastries from the great selection that they have available. We ordered two types of kunafah (traditional Middle Eastern pastry made with filo dough or semolina flour, cheese, and sugar syrup with or without rose water), one made with a layer of pistachios and the other made with cream instead of cheese inside and covered with rose petals (from this last one we don't have pictures because it was gone before we even realized that no pics were taken). We also ordered other pastries such as baklavas, pistachios cookies, and others that were absolutely delicious (pics included). We also enjoyed a kind of empanada filled with potato (I think it is called potato snail because it has the shape of a snail) as well as a semolina bread to go, both absolutely delicious!! The attention was absolutely amazing and the place is very clean and cozy (although pretty small, so, you may need to wait for a table if you want to eat in). We were fortunate to find a table and also to had the opportunity of engaging in a great conversation with the person sitting on the neighbor one, so we spent about an hour chatting and eating delicious sweets ...It was a very special birthday treat!! read more

I stopped by for the first time on a weekday afternoon when the bakery wasn't super busy. There were so many different varieties of pastries to choose from that I was a little overwhelmed and asked the person helping me for some recommendations. What I was not prepared for was the amount of samples they gave me! I got to try so many varieties and ended up picking a few to take home. The pastries are so flaky with a generous portion of whatever filling (I tried ones with walnuts, pistachios, and/or tahini). As expected, the pastries are sweet, but I thought the sweetness balanced really well with the pastry and nuts. I also picked up a Jerusalem bagel with hummus. The bagel had a subtle sweetness to it from the sesame coating but otherwise had a pretty mild flavor. Their desserts are IMO nicer than their savory pastries, so I gave it an extra star! I liked the baklava rolls (crunchy!) a lot, though the classic baklava was also quite nice. I think not the best ever, but very solid with some interesting flavor. I thought the kunafah creme was a beautiful presentation, but maybe not as standout? Definitely will be trying their other sweets! What a refreshing was to start the morning! From the food to the staff, everything was amazing. We were immediately greeted by the friendly and personable staff and offered a sample of their chai. They also are very quick to ask about allergies which is great (a lot of their treats have nuts!). As adorable as this place was I would love to keep coming back if I were more local. From the artwork to the endless amounts of both savory and sweet treats, everything had its own unique character. They offer delicious karak chai, juices, and coffee. Palestinian owned bakery in Somerville, probably one of the few middle eastern bakeries in the area, everything else that's similar is out in/near Watertown. Small bakery with limited seating, maybe 4-5 tables that can fit 3 people. You could call it cozy! From time to time they'll offer samples, and you can ask for samples as well. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. I've sampled their chai, it uses real milk, so I couldn't take more than a sip of it, but it was very good & I'd recommend it to all the cow-milk-drinkers out there. Their spice blend for it and their sweetness level is perfect in my opinion. I'd also recommend the lemonada (lemonade-like drink with ginger and mint) and their sage tea (it's like the tea my mom makes when she plucks sage from the garden). Now for the desserts! I haven't tried too much, but I will say everything I have tried is rich due to the nuts, honey, and dried fruit. The dried date selection is beautifully done. They've turned that dessert into an art. Taste-wise, the ones I've had are all kind of similar, but their date dipped in white chocolate & coconut is definitely something special (around $3 per piece). Their pistachio baklava is also a must-try. Not too sugary, but definitely dense. I also really enjoy their date-filled cookies with tea. Lastly, they have slices of a pistachio mousse cake, it's really light and cute looking (pastel colors!). Drinks range from $4-6. Desserts range from $3-$8. I still want to try their kunahfa cream and I haven't tried anything savory yet, but will report back when I do. read more

Wonderful. Such kind service, you get a chai sampler when you walk in the door to whet your appetite, and the staff is usually kind enough to offer some tastes. Sad it took us so long to find this place. My favorites are the tahini baklava, pistachio kunefeh (this one is not made with cheese, more of a delicate ground pistachios + syrup patty), kunefeh cream (this one is made with a type of cheese I think, with a floral rose flavor), and pistachio roll (super pistachio, almost like a pistachio butter), mamoul, and almondo (cross between crumbly almond flour cookie and shortbread, I think--I have to be in the right mood to get this). The chai is also delightful and full of flavor. This might be my favorite discovery yet! Reviews brought me here to pick up sweets for a friend, and I was absolutely blown away by the selection. So many options left me a bit intimidated but the owner/manager kept handing out samples to all in line that had me selecting items I would otherwise have not. I don't think you can go wrong with anything. Baklava hasn't always been the first thing I would reach for but this place has made me a fan. Probably my fave bakery in Mass so far. I wish I came here earlier bc I would've been a LOYAL customer. The cafe is a small little shop by Porter Square with limited seating, The savory foods were good! I recommend baking all the savory pastries at 350F & microwaving the Kunafah Cream for 40 seconds on a dish. The cheese zaatar w hummus was my favorite, while my friend really liked the mana'eesh and spinach snail. The hummus was an extra $3 but you def want to get it with the cheese zaatar. Nevertheless lol it's still good on its own. I kind of wish we got the one with bell peppers, but this one still slapped. The snail had a nice flaky texture + the spinach and cheese combination paired well with it. Everything was great though - with or without supplements. It made for the perfect lunch. All around, we both LOVED the kunafah cream. It was so good! The taste is really floral, so don't order if you aren't a fan of that floral profile. I felt like I was eating a flower (in a good way)! I also really liked the crumbly but creamy texture of the pastry. The custard cream had a unique flavor with the best consistency. Overall, the kunafah wasn't too sweet or bland - just perfect. This place def had expensive pastries, but I get it. The savory foods, however, were reasonably priced. Yafa's barista also let me sample some coffee, and it was really flavorful + rich in spices. i'm not crying you're crying. or maybe we're all crying. this is the most splendid bakery in boston. i was so excited looking for dessert and finding that the name of this bakery is the name of my mom's hometown. this exceeded my imagination. immediately when we walked in we were warmly greeted and offer samples of baklava. the decor distracted me from the desserts and so did the merch. i bought a long sleeve green shirt for $27 and it's so soft and high quality, and for a good cause. i am excited to restock olive oil from here because it is the highest quality (sorry north end). the savory flatbreads or "manakeesh mana'eesh" were pretty much out in the late afternoon so i'll be back early in the day to try every single one. my friend and i got two mint teas one of which i requested herbal and there was loads of fresh mint leaves in there. we also got a handful of different desserts and split them all. i was so happy we got the last kunafeh cream that day because i love their fusion take on it. the way they plate things if you dine in is luxurious. and i love the intricate interior design with the simultaneous minimalism. so hard to pull off while keeping the palestinian cultural integrity and they perfected it. lovely 1000/10 read more
