Ah I'm so disappointed there wasn't a wide selection when I went! Looking at other reviews, I was looking forward to trying some other pastries but at noon on a weekday... it was slim pickings. Metered street parking was available. The lines moved fairly quickly when we visited. My raspberry matcha latte had to be made twice so the wait was a bit longer than usual. While I waited, I ended up getting back in line and ordering more pastries. The matcha latte was excellent, not too sweet. The pizza dough was amazing. I literally engulfed the entire chocolate chip pastry and forgot to let my husband try a piece. All of the pastries were delightful. Around 9am on a Saturday morning, they were already running out of certain varieties of bakery goods - that tells you something about their immense popularity! There was a short line but moving along quite efficiently. I tried the focaccia - which evoked memories of Sicilian style pizza (especially given mine had pesto and corn on it). I tried the plain croissant as well, having missed my shot at the last slice of spinach-feta). It wasn't as dense as American croissants tend to be but not as fluffy and airy as French ones either. It did taste amazing and 100% satisfying, without needing additional cheese or condiments to support it. The latte was top-notch - legitimate beans and perfect balance of strength, texture and flavor. Kudos! read more

Nowhere to sit, so another challenge. Good selection of croissants and croissant-adjacent items like caneles and pain swisse. Friendly staff; no pretension. My first visit in well over a year on a late weekday morning tried a troika of chocolate-themed items. -- Chocolate Croissant: Not warm (and I wouldn't expect that past 9am), but very fresh feel, very slight greasiness on the bottom, plenty of flakiness on top, and decent fluffiness inside. A good bite, yielding plenty of croissant shrapnel, a light but pleasant buttery taste, and just the right amount of chocolate. A winner. -- Pain Swisse: This varied from others I've had, not having the typical stringiness around the perimeter that feels like raw pasta to the bite, but that was a plus. The bigger noticeable divergence was a much-lighter-than-typical custard presence inside, deferring to the dominant, high quality dark chocolate. The dough around it had good flavor and a nice light crunch, so whether central casting Pain Swisse or not, this satisfied. -- Chocolate Chip Cookie: An unusual rendition, with a dough darker than typical and also boasting some red tint hinting at red velvet. Soft, deliciously rich, and buttery, with the chocolate having a nice melt to it even late in the morning. Salt added some contrast without going overboard as some do. -- Coffee: High in temperature, acidity, viscosity, and flavor. A good match for their baked goods. Overall, still living up to the promise of the first visit, and taking some license with the classic recipes is fine by me with their high level of execution. read more

Michette is cranking out some of the best croissants here! You can smell the bakery while walking down the street. The wait in line to get inside wasn't bad at all! I got a ham and gruyere croissant, a bun with pistachio cream, and a raspberry matcha latte (I think this was on the special/seasonal menu!). Everything is for takeout only. The croissant was so flaky and literally melted in my mouth. The raspberry matcha latte was smooth and perfectly sweet. The pistachio cream bun was not sweet enough for me, but was soft and had a nice texture. I'd love to come back and try the plethora of other baked goods and drinks they have to offer! read more

I'm in love, I'm obsessed (Rihanna voice). After a whole year later I finally made it back for my guava roll and tried the pistachio croissant and I love them both so much. I also got to try a breakfast focaccia and the passion fruit kouign amann which are good too. And I'm so excited that they are opening a new location near me!!! Walked by here and saw a crowd outside this bakery and decided to check it out. It's a tiny space with a lot of fresh baked options to choose from. I picked a croissant with ham, Gruyère cheese and Dijon mustard baked into which was delicious. This is the best bakery in Boston by far! I have been here a few times now and every single time the pastries are baked to perfection. I ordered ahead of time this time around and I am glad I did because everything I pre-ordered was already sold out by 10am on a Sunday morning. The service was quick and you can walk up if you have a pre-order which is nice. I got an almond croissant, ham and cheese croissant and a quava roll. Almond croissant was perfection! 9/10 Ham and cheese could do with more ham. 8/10 The quava roll was nice but I properly would try something new the next time. 8/10 I also got a cortado. I do prefer skim milk in my coffee but they didn't have any, which is weird but I did it with whole milk and I really enjoyed it! Broadsheet supply their coffee beans so I knew it would be nice! I love caneles, really bad that i'm always looking for a place that has them. This place is probably the best I've been able to find in the US! It's crunchy on the outside and soft inside but not too custardy soft. I also tried their oatmeal cookie and basque cheesecake, which were equally good. I went on a Saturday on an incredibly rainy and cold day, and when I got there around 10 am, we had to wait outside for a moment until the line was shorter inside. The interior is really small but has a couple of standing areas to quickly eat and leave. They have monthly coffee specials and this month is peanut butter vanilla latte. This time, I got the sausage focaccia for $6.75. I think the ratio was off- the bread was too much for the little smattering of sauce and one piece of sausage per slice is not enough in my opinion. This is one of the best bakeries in the Medford/Cambridge/Somerville area and they have some really good croissants here if you stop by right when they open. As an ex-big law alumna myself, I can appreciate the trajectory of Thomas, the owner of Michette who exited the big law life and is now making some of the best croissants and pastries I've had. Pro-tip: come here early on the weekends to avoid the lines and also snap up the more popular offerings before they run out. We didn't get a chance to try either the chocolate croissant or the chocolate almond croissant but ... Just look at the beautiful layers in the plain croissant and the pain suisse. I was eating elsewhere soon so wanted to conserve stomach space and originally planned to consume just half of my croissant. Well. Talk about a fool's errand. It was gone in a few bites. Nice, flaky, lots of chew in the inner soft part, crumbs everywhere (as it should be). I think the obvious comparison is Colette - Colette's version is a tad less heavy on the butter, a little more airy. Both are ones I'd eat again without question. I'll be back to try the focaccia, which looked amazing. It's times like these where I wish we had better options in Newton and also where I'm kind of glad I need to go out of my way to get these goodies. Buttery and flaky with a generous, even layer of frangipane throughout. I really appreciate how they make sure to fill even the ends of the almond croissant with a liberal amount of filling (oftentimes, I've found that bakeries only place filling towards the middle of the croissant). There's no seating inside, but there are some benches outside if you want to enjoy your pastries immediately. I recommend toasting them at home first - it was delicious warmed up! read more

Overall: what stands out about this place is their creativity to push the boundaries. They have classics but you definitely should come to try their uniqueness. Food: caneles *chefs kiss*. Don't get dissuaded by the "burnt" exterior. It's a byproduct of the copper molds used that give it that color! In fact it accentuates the caramelized taste and adds incredibly to the custard like interior. The cool goods they have that are off the beaten path include a passion fruit Madeline. You can tell they use real passion fruit by the seeds embedded into the Madeline but the best part is how the seeds aren't sour like usual. What a cute French neighborhood bakery! Once you walk in you are instantly met with the most beautiful smell of baked goods! Everything was beautifully plated on display, and I knew it would be a tough decision deciding what I was going to bring home. I went with a chocolate pistachio croissant. OMG. This was the most decedent croissant I have ever had. I heated it up when I got home so the chocolate was warm and melty. It was so good! However, they had clearly had a busy morning because they only had two types of pastries left and were out of non-dairy milk. I got a toasted oat cookie and guava pastry to try and they were both so good! I wanted an oat milk matcha but couldn't get that since they were out of oat milk. The taste of burnt bread lingers. Sadly, the baguette I bought at 1pm on a Wednesday was not worth it. The entirety of the baguette is noticeably burnt(realized this late as I sneaked a bite in my driveway) so I sit wondering why the cashier even handed it to me.
