    Matcha sunrise
    Phoebe L.

I went on a morning run and stopped by Komugi to check out some of the breads and pastries. Immediately I was greeted by the sweetest woman at the cashier and she explained what was in each of the buns I inquired about. Unfortunately, when I got there the curry pan was out and I had to come back in 40mins for the next batch. It was totally worth the wait though and I also got a matcha sunrise (essential a matcha melon pan). Both were soooo delicious and fluffy and not too sweet. Against my better judgement I inhaled both of them when I got home. Something about that Hokkaido flour made them super light and I didn't feel bloated or groggy even after eating both

Exciting new bakery in Somerville that's a definite must try! I recently went to Komugi after hearing great reviews and it did not disappoint. There are so many delicious pastry options and I had a hard time picking which ones I wanted to try first. I got the curry pan, which was delicious and flavorful, and the matcha sunrise, which was light and crispy. You can also order from several different coffee options. The latte I ordered was perfect. Everyone is so nice and friendly in the store. It's a small space with no seating so be prepared to take your items to go. Even with no seating this place has such a bright and cheery vibe. Can't wait to visit again!

The only mistake I made when visiting was eating beforehand. I walked in for a delicious vanilla latte, but was tempted by the milk bread pastries like French toast and other goodies. We sampled a few and vowed to come back.

I saw the news about Komugi and it's been a bakery I've been meaning to try and it didn't disappoint! When you first enter, the space is very clean and you're greeted by the owner. It's a very small space and there's no tables or seating inside. The pastries that they sell are displayed near the register as well. Food: these are Japanese style breads and pastries so the bread is soft and the pastries are not too sweet. I bought a couple items and they were all very good. I also got a latte and it was a strong coffee. Personally, I like the chocolate emoji bread. The bread was very soft and fluffy and the filling had the right amount of sweetness. Location: there's no metered parking outside the bakery and if you're quick, the residential parking might be an option where you can double park quickly. Union station is very convenient and only a couple minutes away.

    Custard bun and Matcha sunrise

My friend got me treats from here for my birthday and it was my first time trying them. I love custard buns and I love matcha. I liked both of them, I warmed them up at home to eat. The matcha sunrise is more like roll with the matcha sugar on top and the consistency of that topping makes it balanced since there's nothing in the middle. I will be visiting them myself soon!

Super excited to try Komugi and they didn't disappoint. The bread is soft, pillowy and everything you'd want in Japanese bread. They're continuously baking so there's always fresh items coming out and they have a good mix of classic and unique items that we don't see in Boston yet. The space is small and is best for take out. I came in a bit later (11:30am) and they were sold out of their donuts, cinnamon roll and filled buns so come early for a larger selection. The line moved on the slower side but they opened quite recently and are super busy so this wasn't too surprising. I waited about 20 minutes. The matcha sunrise was fantastic and I keep telling people about it because you can really taste the matcha. I also tried the everything salt and butter roll as I am so excited to see salt bread here in Boston. Good, buttery flavor that isn't too salty. I will definitely come back to try more, it's worth it!

    Sat morning selection
    Lena L.

Came in around 9 on Sat hoping to beat the crowd and get a full selection and I was right! They are located right on a corner of a 5way intersection so it was hard to park in front of the store. My bf dropped me off and I went in to grab the goods. The bakery smelled amazing with fresh baked goods and they had a sample of everything salt butter roll at the counter. It was amazing!! I ended up getting a red bean salt butter roll and curry pan. I was warned that the curry pan is fresh out of the oven so very hot. Both were delicious and I will definitely come back for more bread!

    Interior/Inside: About the Bakery

I stopped by Komugi and was pleasantly surprised by the friendly and warm service as soon as you enter. All the employees were extremely gracious and kind. This was definitely the highlight of the visit. I tried the cookie salt and butter roll and the matcha donut. Both were unique, fresh, and tasty. The cookie salt and butter roll had an excellent texture and flavor. I recommend trying it. The matcha donut was not too sweet and airy. FYI there is no seating inside.

I found myself in the area and figured I'd pop by. The shop is small without any tables but I saw two girls sitting on the one of the many window ledges so that's an option. I ordered an iced matcha latte with oat milk and two pastries, the matcha sunrise and the cube anpan. I ate the matcha sunrise before I could take a good photo, but it was nice and light with a subtle matcha taste. The latte was excellent and had a strong matcha flavor, which I enjoyed. The matcha was a little pricey ($8.50 plus extra for alternative milk) but I'd definitely come back!

That might be because of its location..it's kind of tucked away and the first time it took us a while to find. The easiest way to get there is to walk in to north station by the star market entrance, turn left and walk straight until you get to the doors and then walk through those and you'll see it (you'll pass Dunkin on the way). It's not what I would describe as a cozy coffee shop, it's the kind of place where you get your coffee and then leave. Now the drinks themselves.. The coffee cream/coffee ice cream is DELICIOUS. This was the first thing I ever tried and it blew me away. It is very heavy but so yummy. The latte affogato is also delicious, probably because they use that coffee cream in it! The Americano is great with any of the coffee blends. The Nutella latte is also one of my favorites, especially if you like Nutella. The gingerbread affogato was great too! This is a seasonal item I think but if it's there definitely try it! Everything here is so great, and the rotating specials make it very easy to want to keep going back and trying new ones. Highly recommend!

I ordered my usual flight, but they were out of stickers :( They had some unique beers amongst them one called Belgian Waffles which is a blonde ale with maple syrup and cinnamon. This was dessert or breakfast, depending on your perspective, in a glass. I also got a hazy IPA, a peanut butter stout, and a hefe. All were really good. For lunch I got some honey jerk wings. These were cooked to perfection. Crisp skin and juicy meat. The problem was the flavor. They had the honey but no jerk. There was no spice at all. They were still good, but they could have been great. Anyway, give me stickers and spice and I will give you that 5th star.

I myself rarely have just cold brew. I like a foam, I love a dessert drink. But their honey cinnamon cold brew....out of this world. It is my go to every time. We had already eaten but wanted to grab a drink and couldn't pass up trying a bubble tea spot. So as you'd expect this review is solely for just drinks. Service wise we ordered from the little kiosk which worked well and allowed for plenty of customizing of your drink. That was a positive but also could be a quick way to make your price sky high with most additions being an extra dollar. They give you an order number that will be called when your order is ready. As we were waiting a worker did ask if we were waiting and for our order number and then they seemed to put a rush on making it and they apologized for the wait. Which honestly I did not think we had a long wait but appreciated the staff still. Overall the space for waiting is limited but won't hold that in a negative light since it's a food hall. I grabbed a Mango Fruit Tea with mango popping boba added while my wife got their toasted brown sugar milk tea. Both were pretty good but neither blew us away. My wife did not like the syrup in her brown sugar milk tea, had an odd flavor to it. Maybe we should have picked different drinks that would have impressed more. I would return to give some of their food a try in the future and more drinks though. Friendly staff with decent drinks and located in a very convenient location if you are visiting TD Garden.

We walked into a space that mixes communal tables, stadium-style seating, and smaller spots to sit, making it a place where you can stop in for a quick drink or stay longer with a laptop. The interior design is one of the biggest highlights, giving the cafe a more elevated experience compared to a typical coffee shop. The tiered seating in particular creates a visual dynamic that makes the room feel more intentional than your standard coffee counter. The drinks are the main focus here, especially the matcha, hojicha, and espresso-based options. We ordered the hojicha latte, which was one of the strongest items on the menu, with a deep roasted flavor and a smooth texture. The matcha has a more traditional earthy profile and leans less sweet, which works well if you prefer a more authentic matcha taste. The drinks are on the expensive side, but the quality of the ingredients and preparation make it feel more like a specialty cafe experience rather than a standard coffee stop. The food and dessert options add another reason to visit, with items like the egg sandwich, quiche, macarons, and hojicha desserts available depending on the day. The menu is smaller compared to a full brunch cafe, but it pairs well with the drinks and gives the visit more of a cafe-and-pastry feel. Service is friendly and the staff are knowledgeable about the drinks, which helps when choosing between the different Japanese tea options. The cafe can get busy, and seating is limited compared to the number of people who come through, but the layout gives it a unique character. Ogawa Coffee works well for specialty coffee and tea lovers looking for a more intentional cafe experience in Boston, especially if you enjoy Japanese-style drinks and a thoughtfully designed space.
