Since it was a Monday, most of the shops and restaurants were closed, but Cheesers was open -- and they had Babcock (UW-Madison) ice cream. It's a cute little shop with lots of gourmet food items, wines, and gifts. We got a couple of cones. Union Utopia for me, served in generous portions on a sugar cone. So good on a warm day. The owner was super nice and told us a little about the downtown area, especially the Opera House that offers concerts. Definitely seems like a place we'd love to come back to.

So when we were heading to Stoughton we knew we needed to stop at this place. The store was hopping on a late Saturday morning. We were there for the cheese but the front part of the store was filled with wine and liquor (they also have a tasting room upstairs - apparently it is a do-it-yourself tasting). They also have gifts and gourmet foods. The cheese counter probably had over 100 selections. There were many tempting cheeses. We selected a smoked blue cheese that we are looking forward to try. Given the wide selection we will definitely stop here again when searching for interesting cheeses even though it is a 25 minute drive.

It could sit for a bit and not get so terribly watered down. But OMG the fish fry! I brought the third piece home (it took a lot of willpower not to eat it). I tear the breading off and give some of the fish as a topper for my pup's dinner. This fish and breading was seriously so good I'd eat the breading straight out of the refrigerator off the fish. Store is brand new, looks good, staff is also brand new and are learning the ropes as everyone does when they first start a job, so yeah the wait times ARE slightly higher right now but with how well they're doing atm I imagine they'll rock it once they've got everything down. IMO anyone with something negative to say about a store solely based on the fact that the employees are new should wait a few weeks and try again. Being negative because people are learning is pretty jerky. Added bonus note - they always make my white hot chocolate correctly, but at the store in Madison I'd go to it was always a toss up whether I'd get what I ordered or just get a plain steamed milk with whipped cream on it.
