We met a friend here per her recommendation. She was excited for us to check this place out and now I know why. I like to think that I have experienced a pretty diverse range of different ethnic foods, but I have never in my life had Bhutanese or Nepalese. What an amazing place this was to have my first. Service was friendly and quick. Our waitress knew the menu well and was able to make recommendations to food totally foreign to my girlfriend and I. We ordered the Sag Pakore to start (a type of green covered in a chickpea batter and fried - incredible). I love trying a variety of foods, so I ordered the Thali combination plate. It came with a lentil soup, chicken curry, an eggplant salad, a rice pudding, a potato salad, and a mustard green (apologies for not remembering the actual names for them). They were delicious and a fantastic introduction to Nepalese food. We also shared the spicy noodles with cheese. This had a phenomenal but not overpowering heat to it and was a gluttonous treat. It's a shame I don't live in the Carlise area or I'd be looking forward to ordering food from here more often, but at least I know now how much I enjoy Bhutanese/Nepalese food. I look forward to trying out more items on the menu next time I'm in the area. Cheers, Yak n Yeti, and thank you for a wonderful dining experience.

Very ethnic ambiance, and an unfamiliar one to boot. For that alone, it scores a point as a special place to impress your date. There are murals everywhere on the walls, banisters, and posts. There's even a section of tables where you can sit on the floor on a cushion. We were greeted and seated quickly. The 2 wait staff were very friendly and helpful. We were given a brief instruction on the menu: how it's divided between Nepalese and Bhutanese dishes, as well as vegetarian vs. non-vegetarian; how a special icon is used denote popular dishes at their flagship restaurant in New Cumberland, etc. For the appetizer, we ordered the Napali Fries $5.95. It reminded me of poutine without the cheese. Looked appetizing, tasted great; crispy outside and creamy inside. Highly recommended. For entrees, we ordered 2 Nepalese and 1 Bhutanese. All came with a side of cabbage slaw and steamed red rice which was nice but I thought the serving could have been bigger. Chicken Sizzler $12.99. It's served on a cast iron sizzle plate and came with a "fanfare". It's colorful and looked almost like a vegetarian dish as the cubed chicken breast resembles fried potatoes among colorful bell peppers and onions. I didn't care much for the sweet and sour taste though, so it was alright. Kathmandu Fried Chicken $11.99. There were about 5 pieces of fried chicken. Excellent taste. Meat was moist and batter was crispy. Recommended. Shakam Datsi $11.99. I was told the Ema Datsi would be very spicy, like 12 on a 1-10 scale. So we ordered this one instead with special instruction to put just a little bit of chili. That was a wise decision because even this toned down version got my sinus running. However, the datsi dried beef was much tougher than beef jerky, very punishing on the teeth. So it was unfortunately a disappointing dish. Overall some hit and misses on this visit. I plan to come back and try their momos and sample more dishes.

I'm a big fan of the first location of Yak n Yeti. And I'd heard that the Carlisle location is more spacious, so have been wanting to visit it. Went for dinner with friends. We managed to find free parking on a side street. It's located on a busy street, so you might or might not get closer parking spot. We ordered Sag Pakora (very good), Himalayan Fish (very good) and Chicken thali (good). But another dish, Kathmandu Fried Chicken, was a disaster. They must have cooked it at a very high temperature. Chicken was totally raw inside. We called and informed the server about it. She apologized and offered to recook it for us. But the image of blood oozing chicken was too much for my friend....went with another dish. I'd go again to try other items on the menu.

I have never had Bhutanese and Nepalese cuisines so I visited yak n yeti with an open mind. I was slightly overwhelmed with the menu (mainly because I didn't know what I was ordering). The waitress was awesome and suggested a dish that would give me the "true experience." IT WAS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER TASTED. My 7 month old also loved it and wanted more. the atmosphere was great. They had the section closed due to covid, but they offer an area to sit on the floor like they do traditionally. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu but I would suggest the datsi. The pork belly was a little chewy but had excellent flavor. The traditional cheese sauce is to die for. Also, the vegan cheesecake will make you never want regular cheesecake again. ALWAYS GET THE CHEESECAKE.

I can't say enough great things about this place. It opened about a year ago and I can't believe it took me almost that long to discover it. I have been making up for lost time. A true gem in our little town. The decor, the service, the FOOD.....top notch. Justine is adorable and greets you as a good ole friend even though we have just started coming here. She is welcoming, friendly and attentive. The lunch buffet is full of different flavors and bound to have an option for all eaters. Each dish, I savor and analyze which spices are used. So many layers of flavors perfectly balanced. Each dish unique in flavor, texture and ingredients. Being a self proclaimed foodie, it has to please the eye first and then the palate. And Yak and Yeti delivers. Not only is Justine the perfect hostess but she is a genius cheesecake maker! The weekly flavor cheesecake is a must have. There has been choices of Tumeric, Mango, Blueberry Swirl and Peanut Butter Chocolate. I wait with great anticipation for the flavor reveal. It is vegan which is bonus but would satisfy anyone that loves a quality dessert. Rich, creamy and packed with layers of subtle flavors. On a trip back to the buffet, i encounter the chef replenishing one of the dishes. I complimented him on the amazing food and he graciously thanked me and said "that is very important to me". That's the difference. These people care about what they are serving and how the serve their customers. Sometimes you visit a place with great food. Sometimes with great service. This place has both. Every. Time. Finally to comment on the decor. Warm, colorful, welcoming. Just perfect. Thank you for bringing incredible place to our wonderful little town.

We started with the pork momos as an appetizer. They were big and stuffed with a mixture of meat and some vegetables. The wrapper wasn't too thick or thin. I absolutely loved dipping it in the sauce, be careful as it is way spicier than we thought! If you've never had a momo, I would compare it to a dumpling that you may have in other Asian cultures. The pork thukpta soup was delicious. The broth was flavorful and although it looks spicy, it actually wasn't! There was a good amount of meat in it. The noodles are unique, they taste almost like a pasta. Regardless, everything was delicious and I would check it out if you're looking to try a new cuisine!

Once she gave us a table briefly went over the menu and their specialties. Listed as a Himalayan/Nepalese food place, it's more of a food from Bhutan. Their menu was very impressive. A lot of good options and the food wasn't that expensive either. Ordered Gobi 65 and Samosa Chaat for appetizers. Shrimp Fried Rice, Puri Sabji, Chicken Chow Mein and Goat Curry for the main course. Also ordered a few Mango Lassis. Even before we order, she warned us that the food will take some time to arrive since they prepare it fresh. In around 10 mins, the appetizers arrived. We opted for the Medium spice level for all the food. But it wasn't spicy at all. She give us the chili paste and the hot sauces on the side to cover it. In another 5-10 mins all the dishes were at our table. Really loved the appetizers. Flavor was really strong and loved it. Also enjoyed the Goat Curry and the Chow mein. Very flavorful. The Puri Sabji was a surprise - it was totally different from what we expected. Absolutely loved it! We were so happy that we stopped here instead of a pizza or fast food place. A worth remembering experience. The hostess was so nice and friendly. Amazing service! It's small place, but very well maintained. Casual ambiance. Locals should be really lucky to have such a nice place in their neighborhood. 5 stars from me. Highly recommended place!

My wife, acting as both navigator and oracle, found Norbu after I asked for something within walking distance of our hotel. Four Himalayan restaurants, all within a short stroll, which felt statistically suspicious in the heart of Amish country. We chose Norbu because it had the best reviews and, more importantly, because it offered Nepalese and Bhutanese dishes, which none of us had ever tried. We are a family that tries to make it a point to say yes to the unknown. Finding it is part of the adventure. Norbu is tucked along North Christian Street, though calling it a street feels optimistic at best. It is more of a very committed alley. The restaurant sits inside an office building with a few brave parking spaces placed carefully on postage stamp sized lot out front. Had we been driving, I am certain we would have missed it and continued on, poorer for the experience. Fortunately, we were on foot and arrived intact. Inside, the place was alive at 7 PM. There were low tables with stools that suggested a more traditional way of dining, and a couple of unoccupied standard tables for those of us still learning. We took one of the latter and were seated quickly. We began with momo, a dish that seems like could quietly solve many of the world's problems if placed on the right tables. Soft, hand folded dumplings, steamed and served with a savory chutney. We ordered the "Mix It All" option, which gave us vegetable, beef, and chicken. Each had its own personality, its own quiet argument for why it should be your favorite. My older son ordered the Sweet N Sticky Tofu, which was the most familiar thing we ate all night. It tasted like a thoughtful conversation between General Tso and sesame tofu. Very good, very well executed, just less novel. I had the Pak Sha Datsi, the national dish of Bhutan, which I did not know until I read it on the menu and our server filled in the missing information with patience and enthusiasm. Norbu itself, we learned, is rooted in Himalayan traditions and a desire to share the food and culture of Nepal and Bhutan with a wider audience, which feels like a noble use of time. The dish arrived as a gently spiced stew with pork and a blend of aged and smoked cheeses. It was creamy, delicate, and somehow grew more interesting with every bite. It did not resemble anything I had eaten before, which is a rare and welcome thing as I grow ever older. My wife and younger son both ordered the Nepali Thali, a kind of edible symphony made up of curry, lentils, vegetables, chutneys, pickles, and a dessert pudding. My wife chose the fish curry, which was tender and lightly flavored. My son chose the chicken curry, which quietly became the star of the table. It had a familiar warmth, something like Indian curry, but with its own distinct voice. The accompanying mustard greens, curried potatoes, and a simple mix of green beans, corn, and carrots, were so flavorful that we found ourselves marveling at them like tourists at a natural wonder. Service was excellent. Our waitress guided us through the menu, made thoughtful suggestions, and shared a bit of the restaurant's story. By the end of the meal, we felt not just fed, but informed. Our only failure was not saving room for dessert. There was a chai flavored cashew cheesecake that sounded like it might change a person's outlook on life. We will have to return to test this theory. Norbu is the kind of place you hope to find and rarely do. It is hidden, a little hard to reach, and entirely worth the effort. Five stars, because sometimes you find something amazing and new, and that reminds you that the world is still full of good surprises.
