It has been a while since I have eaten at Yakima Steak Company. I went there for lunch yesterday and ordered the Blackened Chicken Bowl off of the lunch specials menu. It tasted ok, but not great, and I believe I got food poisoning from it. I was throwing up all last night. I'm doing better today, which tells me it was something I ate - not a flu bug. The most attractive points for me were that (1) it was relatively quiet and nice inside and (2) the prices were on the reasonable side for a steak restaurant. There are several restaurants in Yakima with tastier food, but they get very crowded and very loud on weekends and sometimes during the week. Even on a Friday or Saturday night, when Yakima Steak Company was reasonably busy, it was quiet enough to readily talk across the table. That's great! I don't need or want library quiet, but it's nice not to have to yell to be heard a few feet away -- particularly when you're eating dinner. So, if you like a reasonably quiet meal instead of Saturday night sports bar loud, thumbs up for atmosphere here. The food, unfortunately, is just "okay." I wouldn't send anything back to the kitchen (even if I was one of those people, which I'm not). Steaks, okay. Chicken, barely okay. Beef dishes, okay. Service was good each time and the interior is nice. We've been a couple of times over a few years and found the above to be consistently true for our visits. I hope they level up on the cooking and keep their reasonable prices and the relative quiet -- that would make this place a real winner. read more

Quite the quandary! I came here 3 years ago and really enjoyed it. The food definitely changed since then. It's SO perplexing! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great atmosphere, great service, great location, but the food tastes like a mediocre old folks home cafeteria that ran out of salt.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had to double check the menu to make sure I hadn't accidentally ordered from the low sodium menu. The steak was decently cooked but lacked any flavor; and I was starving. I hadn't eaten all day and that's when food usually tastes the best. I had to give myself a pep talk to keep eating. The mashed potatoes were almost gray which I was hoping was due to gravy or something savory. Nope, no such luck, just flavorless and rather questionable looking mashed potatoes. The bowl of broccoli was soaking in what looked like butter water. If it was butter, it definitely wasn't salted. I ordered a bread pudding to go. I had my doubts but gave it the old college try. Not only were they able to accommodate our group of 9, the food and service were spot on and the group either ate all their food or took it and ate it later. On our road trip back from Walla Walla to Bellevue, we stopped in Yakima for lunch and found Yakima Steak Company to be one of the few downtown restaurants open in the middle of the day. Therefore, we decided to dine here for some beefy eats. The place was steady, with half of the dining area with patrons. For the three of us on a Sunday afternoon, we were able to be seated immediately. Like most steakhouses, the place was on the fancier side, with white table linens and napkins and the servers in button-down shirts. Despite that, it had a casual vibe to it. The lunch menu featured a lot of different items, like sandwiches, burgers, salads and heartier plates, like prime rib, ribs, and different cuts of steak. I ordered the wagyu bacon cheeseburger, which may have not been the best choice. Although it was eight ounces, the burger sadly was overcooked to my request of medium-rare. It's such a bummer too, since they use wagyu beef, which is king. So unfortunately, I didn't taste how juicy and flavorful I know wagyu to be and the primary reason why I ordered this. However, I do like that instead of fries, you can choose from the handful of sides they offer at no extra charge. Brussels sprouts for the win. I believe Yakima Steak Company has good food - I just didn't taste it with the wagyu bacon cheeseburger. If I come back, I will definitely have to try the prime rib plate or another specialty item, for I have a feeling I'll have better luck then. Next time! read more

For a "steak place", you'd expect a fairly high quality of their steak offerings, and the specials menu had a pretty hefty selection of higher priced items. My wife had a prime rib which was pretty good. I ordered a simple NY steak, medium rare with the side loaded baked potato and risotto. The steak came out overcooked and the potato was basically a baked potato you assemble yourself. Not bad, but when I think "loaded" I think that it's been assembled for me. The waitress was very kind about taking the steak back and bringing me a new one, however the "new" one was almost marginally better. I didn't want to cause a fuss and it was getting late and the kids had already had their food, so I ate it. We stopped in Yakima Wa. on our way north to Alaska. It was around the 22nd of April 2024. We had been "on the road" for several days and wanted to relax and have a nice steak dinner. We checked the local restaurants and heard great things about the Yakima Steak Company. When we arrived we discovered it was everything we had read and heard about from locals. It was in a nice location and the place looked inviting. The inside was clean and smelled delicious. It was nicely decorated and the decor was spot on. At the same time we were warmly greeted by a few of the staff. They appeared genuinely happy to have us there. We were promptly seated at a nice intimate table. We were greeted by a server and again by a gentleman, Jamie who was equally friendly and attentive. We were surprised to learn he was the owner because he waited on us the entire meal. We really enjoyed visiting with him too. These folks made us feel like royalty. Jamie even brought out our future steaks to check out before preparing them. Our steaks were cooked to perfection, tender, juicy and delicious. They were among the very best steaks we've ever had. The entire experience was absolutely unbelievable. Just like the last time, we were quickly seated in the dining room without a reservation. Cocktails arrived promptly. While my husband enjoyed the ribeye with asparagus and risotto, to my disappointment I ordered the steak salad. The steak was chewy and the limited amount of dressing served on the side was not sufficient. There was night and day difference between my cut of beef and the moist tender ribeye. I have to say the steak I was served was the absolute worst cut of beef I have ever been served at a steak restaurant of any caliber, let alone the "premier" steak restaurant in Yakima. This cut should have been ground into hamburger. There was No attention to the preparation, no seasoning, barely seared on one side, stringy, tough and overall un-palatable. I ordered medium rare, I got rare. I assume the chef knew that if he cooked it any longer it wouldn't be able to be even chewed, let alone swallowed. Barely seared and not hot at all by the time it arrived at my table. My wife ordered the salmon. It was served sushi style. Nearly raw although this was obviously not the intention. I asked for the bill and it took 20 minutes to get that. This is the second disappointment I have had here so there will be no return trips for me and I will make sure the people I interact with are aware of this sadly disappointing place. Met with colleagues here for a networking dinner, and I really enjoyed the company as well as the food. The service was amazing, as our server was friendly, attentive and helpful. She made recommendations and answered some of our questions. I ordered the Brussels sprouts and bread for the table. The Brussels sprouts were delish, the sauce was savory and packed with flavor. The cheese bread was a good appetizer before the meal. I ordered the sirloin with Mac and cheese and a wedge salad and then upgraded to the one with bacon and blue cheese. For me, the wedge salad was the standout! It was crisp and fresh with the creamy dressing and crunchy bacon it was perfect! The steak was cooked perfectly medium as requested and the Mac and cheese was hearty and flavorful.
