Maybe coming from Japan my expectations were too high but we came in, no one sat us down. Not sure if we were suppose to walk in and sit? Anyhow attention was all on a birthday party of over 20 people that were there. Rolls were subpar for the price... Asked for my stuff to go because it was so noisy there and after 10 mins of waiting to get it back I just left. Not sure if I'll be coming back. This place was just dingy. My husband and I came here years ago and weren't very fond of it. We were looking for something close to the home.Yama was basically it. So , my husband read the reviews in yelp and thought we should give it another chance. They had a sign that had 20% off which started at 230pm Ok , this is looking good. We walked in and it had a tad bit of a misty smell. We sit down and the waitress was very friendly and accommodating. We were about 30 min to early for the 20% off. But by the time we sat down, looked at the menu and ordered some drinks it was probably 15-20 min later. There were 6 of us. We ordered a lot of sushi , sake, drinks etc. the sushi tasted very fresh! This place was great! We showed up on a Saturday night and it was so packed full that we sat at the last open table. The service was surprisingly fast!! Waitresses were so polite and attentive. We ordered 4 sushi rolls and a plate of yakisoba and some teriyaki chicken it all came out in less than 20 minutes, which was amazing to me especial considering the place was COMPLETELY full. I was recommended by a friend. When I went to this restaurant 3 years ago, it was actually owned by a Japanese. Now, I am not sure if this place is owned by a Japanese. Majority of the Japanese restaurants are owned by Koreans in the Temecula Valley/North County areas. I was not impressed with this establishment. The J food was OK including the sushi, tempura, teriyaki, and miso soup. The sashimi was not fresh and tempura tasted bland. I recommend going towards the OC, LA, or SD areas to eat some authentic J food. read more

First time here doesn't look like anything special but the sushi is good. We had Bluefin sushi, yellowtail and yellowfin sushi. We had a couple rolls as well but the one that I suggest you try is the California beach it was awesome, I would come back just that. The wait staff was friendly and fast. read more

This is my must-visit restaurant when I visit near San Diego area for business. I live in LA County but have clients close to San Diego area. So once my appointments are done, I have dinner at this restaurant before getting back on freeway. Instead of being stuck in the traffic, I'd rather enjoy the fresh and delicious sushi, roll, sashimi with happy spirited owner couple. They are fun and nice. Husband is also a sushi-chef and wife works as a server. Awesome food and great service. Oh, please enjoy the scenery while driving to the restaurant. Had a similar disappointing experience to several other reviewers. Waitress made a mistake in the order and was not willing to correct the problem. We didn't choose to make a big scene over it but she handled the situation poorly. The food was unremarkable to not good at all. Sushi rolls not tightly rolled, sliced unevenly, portions too large to take as one bite, and not especially fresh tasting. Salad and other vegetables appeared and tasted like they were dumped out of a big plastic bag of pre-sliced produce. Chicken wasn't very tasty. Even the tea was served in a sloppy manner. And considering the quality of the food and the poor service it was ridiculously expensive. I've had better Japanese meals out of the refrigerator case at Trader Joe's. read more

Yamas is the best Sushi in all of North County tucked away in itty bitty little fallbrook. The Chefs are very sweet and are always willing to make you something "special". It is also kid friendly, even though my little girl loves the seared albacore, which is my favorite as well. Anyone who eats here is a long-time returning fan. read more

Used to live in Fallbrook and frequented Yama, 10 years ago. We've come back to visit several times over the years. While it was never a stand- out restaurant, it was reliable and good. Tonight's visit was quite a disappointment. There were 4 of us and our selections tasted off. The salad dressing was a tad too tart. The bulkogi was a tad too salty and dry, the tempura was not as crisp. If one selection were off, okay, there's other things on the plate. But, with everything a tad off, there was only the rice left to enjoy. Nice slick menus, too much obsequiesness, not enough care in the kitchen. Sad to cross it off my list of reliables. read more

My wife and I went to this restaurant last night for dinner. We were very disappointed with the service and quality of sushi. We noticed it is not as crowded as it once was so perhaps this is indicative of the lack of management? My wife loves sushi but the tako (octupus) was very tough and had been overcooked. When we complained we were not given much sympathy. I had to insist that the bill be adjusted. The owner just didn't seem to care whether we came back or not. We won't ! read more
