We ate here Wednesday night and boy were we impressed. The service was over the top! The portions were excellent and the food quality was the best we've had in a while!! Also, the price was right!!!We ordered the Goyza as an appetizer and got 6 pieces and for 2 people, you need either 4 or 6 pieces. We got a very nice bowl of onion soup and it had lots of onions and mushrooms and a great flavor. Kathy got the rice/chicken/vegetables and a it was a lot. Enough for lunch the next day. We go to Yamato at least once every month or two and realized I've never left a review. I love sushi, but my husband doesn't so it's a great place to go as he likes the teriyaki & hibachi meals. We are always greeted & seated right away. This evening, I ordered the Volcano roll & the Marilyn Monroe roll (yes, they missed the mark on naming this the Marilyn Monroll). Too much for one person, but I like variety! The Volcano roll is warm & spicy & the Marilyn Monroe is cool with mild flavors; nice duo together. I also recommend the Irene roll as it's also one of my favorites. My husband ordered the Teriyaki steak dinner. It comes with soup, salad & rice. Choice of soup was miso or onion. The teriyaki steak comes on a sizzling platter. My husband said it's very good but hard to eat. He felt it needs to be served on a plate with a knife to cut the steak strips. He enjoyed it though. Our server, Miranda, was just the sweetest! So friendly, very attentive & even got us drinks to go! We've always had great servers there. This Yamato was remodeled a few years ago and is a nice, casual restaurant with a very friendly atmosphere. We really enjoying eating here. read more

I waited for around 5 minutes without a single acknowledgment from staff. Multiple tables were open, yet I overheard one worker say to another that there was only one table. There were at least 4 open tables. Another customer walked in and was told they would be right with them and directed her to sit to wait. They still did not acknowledge me. It was one of the worst services, or I should say lack thereof, that I have ever seen. I finally walked out and even then was never acknowledged by the staff. Yes, they were busy, but not too busy that they couldn't physically hand wads of cash (tips I am assuming) to other staff and casually be talking behind the register. I'm a side note, parking was horrendous. Multiple cars were taking up more than one space and I and a few others were forced to park in the lot next door. While the workers themselves are not at fault, I see no signage asking to be courteous of other customers. read more

First soups never arrived. Entrees arrived we had to say can we please have a soup then we noticed that the the broccoli that she pointed out. We order to Long Island teas and barely had any alcohol in them. Look more lemonade for spending almost $150 for four people in which only two alcohol drinks were ordered. Very disappointed. All I can say about this restaurant is don't go! I had the Marilyn Monroe sushi and seaweed salad, both of which were warm. I was expecting to get food poisoning from the place. Seems to be that the air-conditioning system wasn't working right and all the floors were wet. it was very humid in the place. And I would assume that the refrigeration system wasn't working either due to the fact of the warm raw fish that I ate. Also, it had the atmosphere of a coffee shop. The hibachi however was very over cooked & dry (chicken) & the rice was not fresh (had been sitting for awhile) broccoli was good. Ordered a margarita, but it tasted like straight lemonade. This is my go-to comfort food. Hibachi veggie plate is excellent, as is the filet mignon. Not a sushi eater but I've heard great things. Love the staff and owners. I know a lot of time and money went into remodeling the interior but I miss the old layout and coziness of it. It is cool if you sit at the sushi bar now so you can watch it be made. It's just missing that warm, date night feel it used to have. Not going to keep me away, though! read more

We had a reservation for 15 people at 7pm Saturday bc it was my nephew's birthday. We were seated in what used to be the hibachi area. It doesn't look like they use it for that anymore. We ordered from the menu. Derrick was our solo server. Let me tell you...this guy busted his butt! We probably had 6 different sushi orders. We also had a bunch of combination hibachi plates. 2 folks had food allergies. We were through eating in an hour and 15 minutes. The food was excellent! The service, phenomenal. Our meat was tender and the veggies were crisp and fresh. Parking in their lot can be tough if you're in a full size truck or SUV. I ordered "dancing with salmon", with tuna, white tuna, cucumber, jalapeño, salmon and salmon roe. It is one of those rolls you need to dip into the soy sauce since it's all fish and no sauce. I wish they would've de-seeded the jalapeño. And maybe add more salmon roe on top. Next, I ordered the "spicy star" - and this, I love!! It comes in 4 pieces, in sushi form. I've been here tons of times before and drained money into this place even with the service dog. Go in to eat today and they denied us service because I have a service dog. I am a disabled Vet and and also a police officer and that is against the law. I'm disappointed this is discrimination after I've been before and nothing was said. Let me lead with how I'd been craving Japanese Hibachi for the past 6 months, since relocating. The server at the hostess stand walked away as soon as I walked. She never spoke nor stated she'd be back...nothing! While waiting, I decided to wash my hands in the ladies room. Let's just say, it wasn't what is hope. Lastly, when ordering my food, I get a server who barely speak English (not exaggerating. He couldn't understand my combination order and wanted to charge me $5.50 for five shrimp added to the salmon to create a combo. I agreed in the interest of going along. When my food came, the 'hibachi' veggies were SWIMMING in 'sauce'. Ok, but why were they OILY? Also, my miso soup was not so warm and my salmon was blackened on the outside and mushy inside. I couldn't bring myself to eat another bite for fear of food poisoning. I asked for the manager. When she arrived, I explained why I didn't eat my food & that the price was not an issue (actually great for the amount of food). She begins to counter my claims by telling me that the food was fine. She began to explain to me how this was fresh salmon. I couldn't help but laugh. She also informed me that this was 'hibachi style' food. I guess it must've been incredulous to her that I'd eaten hibachi AND fresh salmon almost three times a week for the past 10 years (relocating from the Mid-atlantic area just a few months ago). Nevertheless, I had been thoroughly offended and no longer wanted to debate the matter, so I asked where I could pay my bill. She took it as my server wasn't around. The host greeted us with smiles and helped us with the menu as we were seated. The server, as well as the manger, were extremely professional and very helpful. So my husbands and I first time there. I can say very nice inside not abbig fan of the seating along the wall I feel too close to others. I gave 2 stars as the service was horrible!!! The lady we had barely spoke english it was frustrating to order as she was not understanding us very well so we had to repeat multiple times. It took forever for my husband to just get his soup and salad. I don't know how they call white rice with some soy sauce fried rice. I make by far better fried rice at home so definitely wont be ordering that again. I ordered the Monster roll sushi and my shrimp in it was rubbery. The dish that was not too bad was their Yaki Soba stir fry and their Teryaki chicken. Wouldnt reccomend the beef in the stir fry it was very chewy. One thing that was the worst of it all was I asked for extra side of spicy mayo 4 times she gave me some other sauce and she realized it wasnt what i requested so she went back to get me what I originally asked for I smelt the other sauce and put it back onto the table. When she finally brought me spicy mayo she asked if I was using the wrong sauce she brought me earlier I said no and so she took off our table and literally gave to the couple at the table next to us!!!! Like gross was was so appalled my husband and I just started at one another like did she seriously just do that!! We were not the only unsatisfied customers the couples around us were so upset with their experience!! In the end we had to wait 20min to just get the check and to go box as requested more than once. This is such a nice addition to the food fare in Tullahoma. Located on the Strip, this is one of the best restaurants in town. We have been there twice and have been satisfied both times. Their bento boxes are good enough to fill you up and a friend. Their miso soup is awesome. Their bento boxes taste good. Their sushi is great. The only thing that I have a gripe is that their sushi menu is so limited. So is their menu. Very sparse but they seem to be done well. If you want some Japanese cuisine, Yamato is the place to go. If you want more sushi options, Yukihana might be up your alley. But with Yamato's price half of Yukihana's I will keep on coming to Yamato more. Their food is very comparable to Yukihana. read more
