    Una don
    David Y.

Ok sushi stop if you're in the area. A bit pricey for the quality, but it's still pretty good. I got the sashimi starter. All of the sashimi was plump and pretty fresh, though the tuna was a bit "vein-y" for me. Also got the una don, which had generous amount of unagi bathed in that sweet sauce, though would have liked the unagi a bit less "well done" in it's cook. Came out to $40, which wasn't highway robbery but expected more at that price. Service was helpful and efficient, and the people were really nice. Wish them all the best!

Tempura Shrimp, tempura veggies and Avocado Salad.

We got tempura veg and shrimp, as well as an avocado salad for delivery via DoorDash. I knew the order was outside my door as soon as I smelled deep fryer oil. There was only one piece of paper under each tempura serving, which was not enough to soak up the copious amounts of grease. I did that myself with four pieces of large paper towel and still I had to take the tempura off so that I could eat the food. The tentsuyu (tempura sauce) for this kind of tempura should consist of three parts dashi, one part mirin, and one part soy. Instead, it was heavy on the soy and contained sugar (though no mirin, which would have been passable). A really cheapening of important ingredients here. The avocado salad was fine. It had 2 shreds of beet, 2 shreds of purple cabbage, two leaves of spring mix, and the rest was iceberg, as well as about a third of an avocado. The dressing didn't have a strong flavour profile besides sugar. so it wasn't my style. I found the food average at best and too greasy and too sugary and lacking authenticity at worst. I won't order from here again.

Medium Sashimi Platter - 40 pieces

Hit all my sushi cravings in one go! I had pre-ordered for pick-up at 4:15pm and when I arrived at around 4:20pm, the order was ready. This was already a good start. Upon opening the the bag when we got home, we noticed they had also included a free slice of cheesecake! =) We ordered the medium sashimi platter, along with a caterpillar roll and tiger roll. Everything seemed fresh and solved all my sushi and sashimi cravings for a while. One thing we noticed off the bat was the thickness of the sashimi pieces. A lot of places skimp out on sashimi but the pieces we got were definitely on the thicker side (koodos to Yanagi). Would recommend this place to anyone who is around the area and wants their sushi and sashimi fix!

    Platter for 2!

The whole platter was great! Very fresh and great selection of sashimi, sushi, and maki rolls. The only thing I would prefer was if the pieces of sashimi was a bit more thin. I'm just not used to thick sashimi slices.

    Danforth boat for 2 - $42

3.5 stars This review is for take out sushi. We walked in and opted for take out because the place was packed. The restaurant is bigger than I thought with about 10 tables and bar seating. We ordered the Danforth boat for 2. In total, the cost was $48 including tax and tip. We waited about 20 minutes for our food. The meal came with two miso soups and salad. The sashimi was very good quality. Not frozen. Fresh. I liked the seared tuna pieces. The dragon roll was crispy and big. I didn't like the rice because it was a bit hard. Overall, this is a good quality sashimi place. The price itself is more expensive than sushi bay (on coxwell and O'conner), which is what I am comparing this place to because they are close by. I get more from sushi bay in terms of what I pay, but this place's quality beats it.

Shota lunch with chirashi, salmon terriyaki (slightly over cooked) and 3 piece of sumai (was so so)

Had takeout here twice because it's close by work. I picked up from this place so I can't comment on their atmosphere or service PRICE: Fair. The lunch menu was pretty good. Under $20/person for sushi lunch. Lunch menu is from 11:30 -3. QUALITY: Reasonable and reliable for the price you pay. I just hope I could give it a 3.5 star because it's not exactly a restaurant that wow me. It's just a sushi restaurant, nothing particularly special. Probably not a place I would go for a special date.

Wow! This is a gem in Danforth! The Danforth Boat that we ordered contains 10pcs sushi, 15pcs sashimi and a large dragon roll. It's 42 bucks with miso soup and salad for two people. Very reasonable price. More importantly, sashimi are thick and fresh. The only thing that is not quite right is the sushi rice, but I'm not going to blame them for that. As for $21 per person, the quality of their fish is far beyond my expectations! If you love sushi, you have to check this out.

    Sashimi and rolls

The food there is always consistent and good. It is one of my regular sushi places to go to. They may not have the premium fish but they don't disappoint. We ordered from them today on Valentine's Day and they put a little rose in the box! Such a little detail is touching!

We came here for dinner. Got the boat for two and it was just the right size with endamame and assorted tempura, finished with green tea ice cream. Very quiet and service is very quick and polite. Will come again.

We were one of their last customers, as we walked in at 915pm, and they close at 10 on a Tuesday. Very nice ambience and friendly, but slow, service. We waited over 35 min for our food - and the restaurant was serving its last customers. Assume it would be a much longer wait if we came at peak dinner time. Ordered the Danforth boat for two - and it had a nice assortment of fresh sashimi, nigiri and the Golden Dragon sushi roll. Salmon was especially yummy - tuna and unagi (eel) was so-so. Didn't like the miso (too salty), and salad was quite sour. They did offer yummy craft beers from Japan (Hitachino Nest). Quite pricey at $10/330ml bottle, but worth a try as I'm not sure where else you could buy it. Prices are reasonable for food. Would consider coming back again if I'm in the area and craving Japanese food!

    Danforth boat 38$

3.5 / 5 Pro: Ordered the Danforth boat for 2 people and it was the perfect amount. The salmon is so fresh and fatty, as well as the other cut of fish on the boat. The dynamite roll was small but it was nice and warm with plenty of fish roe on top! They also gave us free dessert in the name of love! For vday which I thought was very nice. It came with chocolate wafers, ores, red bean ice cream, and green tea mochi. Just a crap load of randoms but it was nice cause it was freeeeee Con: We waited 50min for our boat. The food is very good but I can see why they have so much takeout rather than dining in. The customer service is very slow. There were maybe 4 small tables of couples for valentine's including ours with two waitress and two sushi chefs. The Miso soup is very salty and the salad was acidic. My bf asked for more tea and they filled up his cup, looked at my half empty cup and walked away. I thought that was interesting... Overall: would I return? Maybe just for takeout.

So thrilled to have such a quality sushi restaurant in our hood! Great fresh sushi (thin rice layer!) great variety, oh so yummy, decent prices. Kid-friendly, excellent service, with a sweet toothpick-poked orange at the end to say thank you for coming. This is now our go-to, hands down! Do yourself a favor, and stop by. And say hello to Stella and Daniel for me :)

This was the 24 piece sashimi. Really nicely presented and the fish was fresh and had great texture!

This place has been open 4 months and we tried it out after seeing the pics and reviews on Yelp. The fish was well portioned, very fresh and had a few twists. The staff were very friendly and on a Monday we were surprised to see 2 families with young kids come in. I always love seeing kids excited about eating sushi! 10% off on Mondays & Tuesday's with Yelp check-in. Really great addition to the neighbourhood that has been lacking a good sushi place too long!

There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

We got a bunch of dishes to share and overall liked most things but some things (like the oyster) unfortunately didn't hit as well. Wagyu - thin slices but very tender and very flavorful with the cheese - surprised by how well the flavor combo worked out. Tofu - easily one of my fave agedashi tofu. Huge tofu slices with very chewy outer texture, a bit gelatinous . Really went well with the sauce and toppings Carbonara - nice chewy texture to the udon, not too soft and not too firm. The sauce was nice and creamy. Not as truffley as I thought it would be, wish it was a little more but it was still pretty good Oyster - least favorite of all the dishes we got today. It was a bit sour and the cheese felt like it didn't really help the flavor profile of the oysters. It was super oily from the cheese, felt like it was drowning in cheese/oil flavor Cod - it looks good but something is lacking, maybe in taste? Feel like maybe the marinade did not penetrate enough. The texture is still nice and soft , with a crisp skin . Also was a bit too oily for our liking, compared to other miso cod we have had. It was also a relatively smaller piece of cod. Overall, the appetizers were really good! The oyster and cod were a bit disappointing. Would come back for the carbonara and the other appetizers mentioned though!
