Went here on a whim in a Tuesday afternoon and was presently surprised! This place is awesome and gonna be my go to place for buffet it was under 20 with drink at lunch time and it seemed like it was a full buffet no half lunch time buffet didn't see the crab legs everyone else is talking about but I think that was the only limitation for lunch. As expected from most buffets, the food was lukewarm and the choices are limited. The sushi bar uses stale sea food. Most of the dishes are very bland and uses heavy frying to cover their lack of taste. Customer service was surprisingly absent for a restaurant with so little customers. A lot of these problems are just average buffet problems and I wouldn't have given such a poor rating if they didn't charge 22 a head for lunch. Since prices started skyrocketing in restaurants in Edmonton the last couple years i started going to buffets more as you can get a big full meal for $24 total ,the same price as i pay to get a single bowl of soup and a tea at a good ramen place. $16 for seniors lunch price. This place has been getting good reviews so i trundled on down for lunch . Very large interior inside a hotel .Likely converted banquet halls. Very clean with nice washrooms everywhere. Service is very good with helpful staff who even described what the various types of sushi were to me. A bunch of steam tables/cold tables with what they describe as 100 items in them and i believe it. The tables are very spread out so you won't be bumping into anyone. They have maybe 10 dim sum items,3 soups,3 kinds of congee,salads,a dozen desserts,chinese buns,chinese meat and noodle items plus even bacon and sausages . There are quite a few sushi items as well. They serve their tea in very nice clear glass pots that sit on stands with a single tea light to keep it warm. I'm sure i'll be a return customer. read more

We used to be a regular here prior to Covid and it was a 5 star restaurant. We were excited to hear they were open again, limited seating of course. The restaurant was clean as usual with lots of staff working. We were seated in one of the smaller rooms which was fine, there were only a couple other tables filled. The server took our food drink order and paper menus, explaining we are to check off the items we would like. It was downhill from there, unfortunately. We ordered soft drinks and they were flat. We told the server and she explained the machine wasn't working properly so replaced with canned pop. It took over 20 min to get the first round of food and everything except the soup was stone cold, some of it even stale and dried out. Took another 20 min before they took our 2nd order and 20 min again to get the 2nd round. Again cold. We politely voiced our concerns so our 3rd round was a little faster and warmer but not all of it came. Then they wanted to charge us for pop refill, when it's not our fault their machine was broken. All in all, we were there for 2 hrs and received very slow service and cold food and ate probably a third of what we normally would if self service. Very disappointing, especially when it looked like there was so much staff just standing around. I would spend your $30 per person somewhere else at least till they figure out how to do business during Covid. read more

Came here over the weekend for a belated lunch with my dad. Really really good Chinese food. I loved it. I'll definitely come back. The location isn't too bad it's about 10 from where I live. Mixture of different food including regular food as well. I didn't try their deserts yet but will next time. Great place all around read more

For all of you that gave this place a 3+ rating you obviously don't get out much for Chinese smorgasbord, but then again at $17 for lunch and the signs posted at every steam table(there are a few) "eat only what you can take or you will be charged accordingly"...if that doesn't make you laugh the BLAND taste of the food will. From the "undercooked" Dim Sum dumplings that were also bland, to everything else. EXCEPT the chicken in various flavors but obviously from the same bird actually tastes like chicken!! Sorry didn't bother with the ice cream table...from seeing the pics online and then in person made me wonder how long they have truly been there. The blue and purple ice cream still looks the same. I went here to celebrate Easter with my family and I was content with the quality of food at this buffet. I'm not a huge fan of Chinese food but I really enjoyed the amount of options present and how often the dishes were replaced! It was a good mix of Western and Asian cuisine! I'm not a huge fan of buffets either because I am not a huge eater but I would definitely come back here again! We held a birthday dinner at yang Ming buffet for 16 people. I made the reservation, and I was called 4 times in one day (the day of the reservation) asking to confirm how many guest would arrive. One of the times I eat as called I was told that I had to make sure that all my guests would arrive or I'd be charged for a 14 person minimum ( we did not book a room or anything private, just 16 at a table ). Once that ridiculousness had been settled we arrived for the reservation to find a 6 person table in the middle of the isle and a both on either side of walkways that were supposed to be a part of our "table". It took 45 mins to get a drink and our group would have drank much more if we could have got ten served the drinks. The bill game with a 20% gratuity attached ( ok fine, but you don't deserve a tip if you can't even serve drinks after I got my own food), then to pay by debit you had to add a gratuity again (there was no option to cancel the tip) at another %15. Weekday dinner was $21.99 . Sushi was nice and fresh . Hot and sour soup was good ,wonton just ok . Lots of nice dim sum items in steamer baskets, so kept hot ,these were pretty good. The fried meat selection wasn't good at all including Ginger beef, lemon chicken ,sweet and sour pork and sesame chicken . All soaking in sweet sauce and so soggy yuk . My dinner came to an abrupt stop when I tried the crab chunk (body that connects legs) this reeked of ammonia aaaagagaghhhh . I took this to the woman taking care of our table and she sent me to another woman. She took a chunk off the buffet and then just ignored me and didn't say anything about it . It was fowl .Anyway the ice cream was too soft with weird phoney flavours and desserts I just didn't bother with . The green tea was the best I've ever had and the pot and little candle stand kept it hot . Don't think I'll be going back again , left feeling unsatisfied and kinda grossed out read more

The food was terrible when I told the manager she went and tried it and told me it was fine I told her that it was gross disgusting and that I wanted out of there for two adults and a child they charge $77 and the food was disgusting don't ever eat here I'm looking forward to a long night on the toilet because of their food and the manager is not willing to have a conversation about she thinks your stuff is great worst dining experience I have had in this city which is pretty sad read more

Their buffet does carry a wide selection of asian food, but in my opinion it's not great food. Being asian, I know what good chinese food tastes like and how it is supposed to taste. I was impressed by the variety but not the quality of the food. The food gets re-stocked every so often. Yang Ming is a fine buffet restaurant located on the east side of Edmonton just south of the Yellowhead highway and west of the Victoria Trail. The restaurant is attached to Travelodge hotel so an excellent way for having a buffet when you stay at the hotel. The buffet is a choice of Asian and Western dishes. A large choice of dim sum food, soups, different chicken and beef dishes, noodles, potato, roast, vegetables. Also the choice of deserts and ice creams is varied. The sushi is freshly made all time right in front if you. When dishes run low the kitchen is right away informed of this and fresh food is prepared and brought in. Their wonton and hot and sour soup is good, steamed fish fillet just melts on your tongue, their dim sum dishes are good, but they varied sometimes for the same dish, probably depending on the cook, not sure. They have an extensive array of different ice creams, all kind of deserts, mango and coconut pudding is excellent, Sometimes they have some bacon but this is more often replaced with a sausage ring slices. Some of the dishes I liked were the baked chicken leg, butter spicy chicken, fried noodle and bean sprout, Singapore style vermicelli, deep fried chicken wings, sweet potato pastry is good too says my wife, she also like the roast, mashed potatoes and gravy but this too varies sometimes it is not as good. They also have large deep fried coated chicken which I found to salty for my personal taste. We love this place but it can be noisy sometimes depending on where you sit. We once had somebody doing loudly business on the cellphone in another language for more than half an hour, since then we make sure we find a quite spot. The food selection is by far the best selection and variety for a buffet in Edmonton. There are some quality issues when it come to taste. The majority of the food is way too salty or very bland. The service in the other hand is very attentive and at your table in an instant if you need anything. Desserts are okay but you need to be careful of the little ones that have the tendency to use their hands to sample everything (even the ice cream). Overall still better than most buffets in town but it's flavour may soon run out and drop to subpar levels if they don't shape up and make quality above quantity. read more

Pros: the place is nice and big, lots of seating, service is good. Decent selection. Ice cream. Cons: the kind of food served here is about quantity, not quality (as expected from buffet style). You can tell especially from their sushi/sashimi and dim sum. The rolls are made with weird combinations of seaweed salad, mango, sauce. None of them were good. The salmon sashimi served on weekends looked really good (nicely marbled, good color) but you can't taste the fattiness of the fish. It almost tastes like rainbow trout. The dim sum lacked the right flavours and fattiness. Was a bit bland and dry. Everything else was deep fried, stir fried, etc. Salad bar looked good but didn't taste good. Sweet and sour soup tasted like pure vinegar. I mean, definitely not worth the price point for me considering I can't eat that much. I'd recommend it if you just want to stuff yourself, but definitely don't expect quality food. read more

Third time we've ordered delivery 1st time was fantastic! 2nd time order sweet and sour pork and got sweet and sour ribs. Was told next time we ordered we'd get free sweet and sour pork from manager to make up for their error. 3rd time forget it!!! WON'T ORDER AGAIN! Should have know when I had to give my address 4 times to finally get it correct. Told out of free delivery which I know from ordering twice before the extra fee went up by $1.00 when I questioned why I could pay $5.00 like the last time. Was told 45 minutes, food arrived an hour later. Was missing one of the selections we made, phoned to ask where it was. While I'm on the phone the starving Marvin's we're dishing out their plates. Ordered chow main and the noodles were burnt and seemed not to be cooked, spring rolls cold. Brought the new concerns to attention and told have to speak to manager Lisa. She came to the phone and after quite a lot of conversation she said she had to check with the kitchen to see if they made the curry chicken I ordered. That was when I lost it! I don't care if they made it or not all I know is that I don't have it. Maybe someone else got it instead. Came here with family and when we called we booked for 12 people. Then upon arrival we were forced to pay for 14 people as they said we had to have a minimum of 14 people when we book even though we weren't made aware of this issue. Additionally, I am an individual with allergies and although I wasn't expecting much I was told to ask staff for the ingredients and when I tried they had no idea as they "weren't responsible for knowing ingredients" even though the actual sign says to ask. Moreover, the "clean" plates had dry crust on on it which made me feel unwell. They tried but I am very disappointed. read more

They even had an ice cream bar, they usually had everything present but if you had to wait a few minutes for more it was worth it. Thought we would give it a try, and well worth the drive as we live out of Edmonton. The food was great and a huge selection. The only thing that I didn't like was the plates were too small, but just made an extra trip up to the buffet. PLEASE BEWARE OF THE SERVERS!!! Server Lily Overcharging Tips!!! The food was nice, quite a selection when we went there. But the service was a different matter. The server was so dishonest!!! Our server Lily, she was so pushy and demanded for tips. Tips are not mandatory and we are willing to give the right amount of tip for the service rendered to us but she dictated the percentage of the tip she wanted us to give. It totalled to $28 just for tips which was almost the same as the amount you pay for the buffet for one person. We were in a group but we wanted to pay separately and she demanded tip on everyone that payed. Lily was so greedy and we were quite in disbelief. I went to this restaurant with my Family and it was great there is everything to choose from, if you aren't a big seafood fan, no problem! Would like more fresh food but I know how expensive it is to keep rotating when there isn't a client base. Been here a few times it was great at first, love the food on the weekends with the sashimi, snow crab legs, and the Peking duck ( this one is harder to refill and get you have to wait a while). Wish they would change the menu or change up how they make the food it's been the same menu for so long in which you will get tired of even when you only come once in a while. Crab and prime rib stations are manned which was annoying... ice cream was labelled and i swear there was 4 different types of vanilla? Varying shades of white, lol. Reminds me of Plates international but less swanky serving dishes. Try the Peking duck - delish! Solid choice for AYCE Chinese/western/sushi/sashimi in Edmonton. Review lost a star due to manned crab/prime rib/Peking duck stations which were not stocked frequently. We went for the Christmas buffet and were disappointed. The turkey was cold, the stuffing dry and the vegetables were found elsewhere down the buffet line - should have all been grouped together. The buffet offered a wide assortment of dishes, but everything was lukewarm - need to keep the food hotter. Enjoyed the sesame chicken, chicken wings, sui mai (pork dumplings), BBQ'd beef and teriyaki beef dishes the most. The melon fruits as a dessert weren't ripe - very hard to eat. Service was slow, waited quite a while for a pot of tea, and they provided an incorrect bill. Expected much better food and service for $27 per person (for seniors). read more

Worst buffet ever. There was only enough food in each bin for 1-2 people and the food wasn't fresh at all. It was an endless cycle because until someone ate the old food, it wouldn't be refilled. The sushi was not edible at all and also no varieties to choose from. Plus, the chef was making it at the station so you could see everything including that he was making sashimi from a rock solid frozen salmon and trying to filet it with much difficulty. read more

As an American living in Edmonton I have struggled to find Chinese food that reminds me of home. The search is over! My husband discovered this gem while working in the area and recommended it knowing my preferences. They don't have the largest selection I've seen but for Edmonton Chinese buffets their selection is above average with variety from salads and soups through dessert. I sampled a wide variety of their products during a lunchtime visit and greatly enjoyed the majority of their dishes. The main reason...flavor! The cuts of meat in the dishes did not contain gristle or fat and the sauces, both individual and on the dishes themselves, was packed with lots of tasty goodness. My favorites were the egg rolls, the sesame chicken, and the pork jerky but there were not any dishes I didn't enjoy. The service was quick and courteous and the restaurant was very clean. If you like western style Chinese food then I highly recommend you give them a try. read more
