First thing I noticed was the temperature in the restaurant, it was freezing. They had heat lamps all over the place but none of them were turned on. This was recommended to us by a staff member at the oxygen deprivation tank, so we thought we would try it. We did the all you can eat, if my memory serves me correctly it was around $35 per person. I've never had hot pot before so I'm not sure if that's average price, or if it's on the higher or lower end. The food was good, I had the Szechuan broth (VERY SPICY) like painfully spicy when you get a peppercorn stuck in your tooth it almost felt numbing hahah so strange. In Edmonton and wanted something "clean and healthy" to eat. Lol. Hubs says eating ayce boiled veggies and tons of meat does not make for a healthy eating but it was fun! A lot places in Canada seems not have been reviewed post Covid so I was excited about the spot but then nervous cuz all the reviews were so old. We pulled up in front of the restaurant and thought, "I don't know about this place...it seems so randomly out of place and a hole in the wall...". We'll we decided to try it since we didn't want to drive another 20 minutes to try out another spot and boy were we glad we stayed. Don't be put off by the neighborhood and it seems to be a place the locals know about as it filled up while we were there. The place was cold when we walked in but after eating hot pot for about 10 minutes you quickly warm up. The waitstaff was nice and we ordered food and asked if we could order another round later. She said yes without blinking an eye. Well apparently the portions are way bigger than the Bay Area and we had TONS of food. Where to start? The portions were large, about 3x the amount you would get from the Bay. They also had black bean sauce spareribs that were tasty, not all fatty. I was super surprised it tasted so good. You also get 2 oysters per person for your hot pot and some sashimi. The oysters weren't as big as posts from years ago, but they tasted fresh. The sashimi was okay and I was nervous as I think I got sick from the last ayce sushi place I ate at but it was fine. The sashimi tasted a bit too cold but better safe than sorry! Pro tip: One order is enough for 2 people. We ordered 2 meats and that was way too much. Not sure if they would allow it but maybe ask for a half order, then you can order more items! Honestly we were too full to order things like green onion pancake, and dumplings! Service was attentive and the thing I thought was so cool? The robot with the car face that brings you your food! Great Chinese hot pot. When I walked in it's all Caucasians. I thought I went to a westernized Chinese restaurant but it is not the case. Over 15 choices in soup base. Reasonable pricing. Good amount of hot plates. TONS of hot pot ingredients. Very fresh ingredients. Condiment station has over 15 choices of sauces. Wow.... Very good place to visit especially during cold days. The ladies who worked there were very friendly as well. I ended up ordering too much, but the owners were really kind and didn't charge me extra. The place itself looked like the general run down older Chinese fare place. However, don't be fooled, great food. A little pricey for 30 bucks for an evening meal, and I don't really eat enough meat to feel like "I got my moneys worth" but really great fresh produce and good cuts of meat. I also really enjoyed their fried rice and their fried wontons. Loved the people who owned it and also served us, really friendly. There was a great selection of broths to choose. I love this place, me and my girlfriend have been here for 2 anniversaries and some family events. The service is pretty quick and we love the robot server, only thing about this place is that some of the tables are right next to each other so if it's a busy day you may be sitting next to some strangers which is worth it if you tend to forget making reservations or change what you're wanting to eat the day you were planning to go out. Chili Hot Pot is one of my favourite Edmonton restaurants. Since takeout isn't really an option with hot pot, I hadn't been here in more than 2 years thanks to the pandemic but last night I came back for the first time and it was like seeing an old friend. In terms of covid-19, they have done their best to add dividers and spacing between the tables but most importantly, they made some major upgrades to their ventilation system. In the past, the humidity of the soups left a permanent haze in the air but no more! Every table now has a vent above it. Chili Hot Pot is super vegetarian-friendly. Just make sure you request your soup be made with "clear water" rather than broth. My go-to if I'm craving some spice is the satay but if I want something more mild, the Chinese herbs soup is a great option too. Hot pot is kind of a choose your own adventure meal so vegetarians are able to eat all the veggies, noodles, and fried dough as you can handle. It is all you can eat so I recommend ordering a little of everything in your first round and then ordering extras of your faves afterward. Definitely order the deep-fried plain buns. Trust me! They are delicious mini sweet buns served with condensed milk for dipping. I have to stop myself from eating too many of them. read more

I am not a hot pot expert but my wife is; I thought it was good but my wife thought it was "so-so." From the outside it looks like a condemned structure, inside it's a quaint little eatery. The tables are separated by plastic panels so it makes thing feel a little claustrophobic. It did't affect the rating. We sat down and quickly were set up with a table service. So I looked for one on Yelp in the Edmonton area and this place had the best reviews. I didn't really know what we were walking into. From the outside, it may seem like a sketchy place. But the moment we walked in, we were greeted and sat down at a table. This was around 5pm on a weekday so it wasn't too busy. But from the start the ladies there were helpful, personable, and very funny. There was a wide selection of choices. Great Dim Sum. And even ended with some desserts. The ladies came by from time to time asking how everything was - they were always on the ball. I'm extremely impressed. It was a little pricey, but I would've paid the same amount at some other restaurant that gave poor service for mediocre food. So this was worth every penny. My friend and I were saying how this was probably one of the greatest dining experiences we've ever had. Great hot pot spot, go early. Good selection of meat, veggies and other options. Been here a couple of times since Hot pot Express downtown closed during Covid in March. Service is friendly, food is brought out fast and the place is cozy. I tried a couple of their soups and some are definitely better than others ex) spicy lamb with herbs way more flavorful than Tom Yum or Fungus. I found that single soup is better than duos (extra $1)as they tend to spill over and mix as you cook item in them. Meats and seafood were great though the salmon sashimi could have been better. If I were to do it again, I would just get one main broth and stick with it for the night. We ordered a ton of good food - selection is pretty decent and they even have a couple good random things you can get (I'm talking about salmon sashimi, lamb dumplings, fried rice with egg and green onion was tasty). Place was surprisingly not that busy for a Friday night (didn't even need to make reservations although we did). Service is on and off - they were pretty slow to bring out the good stuff...don't know if that was on purpose or not. Pretty good place and I like the deal after 9pm! It drives me crazy that this place doesn't do a late night special but I GET IT .... it's so good they don't have to! The quality of meat here is beyond any late night special that's running in this city. On top of that, their milk tea and in-house made iced tea is delicious. Then we have the service ... it's amazing. Absolutely perfect. The people working here are consistently welcoming and enjoyable to be served by. Sauces? Great. I don't know what they're doing to their bean curd but it is so good. Also, the included dessert of a strawberry pudding and mango pudding is a perfect way to end the meal. This is great hot pot at a price that is reasonable. First, food is fresh- they make their own fish balls, etc and put it in a neat "trough" that you can cut and push out to make your own size. After hearing about this place from my parents, I think I have found my new favorite hot pot restaurant. It is always a great feeling to enjoy a warm satisfying lunch on such a cold day! The vegetable basket is a little smaller than other restaurants but the main entree sizes make up for it! The food was fresh, and I love the variety of sauces. This was my first time visiting chili hot pot and I was not disappointed! The selection of broths and sauces was so much more extensive than other places in the city. Also, the selection of meats and veggies was great and everything was fresh. The oysters were the size of my hand . The service was friendly and timely. A nice added touch was the water with lemon, lime, and cucumber. I would highly recommend the lamb broth... it was very tasty and had great depth of flavour. After 9:00 pm it's 20 percent off which is a great deal, however I don't eat enough to justify hot pot ayce. I love coming here for lunch which is an amazing deal and oh so delicious. For 15.95 you get to pick 5 items including hot foods and it also comes with a free veggie basket. For $2 you can pick an extra soup or any additional items ($2 each). The concept was well explained, the dizzying array of flavorings made it feel like we were there for several meals, and the proteins choices were fresh, tasty, and plentiful. After Escaping a room at Escape City (down the road) we got our hunger on... Real bad. I knew I needed more than usual to fill my belly so my sister and I headed to Chili Hot Pot. The sign out front says 20% off after 9pm, we were there at 8:54pm sweet! Walking in we were immediately greeted by lovely smiling Asian ladies who sat us down instantly. The service here is wonderful! My sister who is full on vegan was looking at the broths and asked if any were vegan but unfortunately they were chicken base. She made vegetable broth for her instead, how awesome is that! I had the Coconut green Curry soup base which was extremely spicy (mouth watering with savory numbness). Our order were basically veggies but a few seafood here and there for myself. OMG we were full after 30 mins of eating. Oh, my pet. The things I would do differently if only I knew then what I know now... First let me get this out of the way, the whole process was nearly flawless. I booked my reservation through Yelp reservations on the business profile page. It was flawless. O picked a time, got to add a special note that 5 out of the 6 of us are vegetarian. It sent me a text reminder to confirm/cancel my booking, I added my visit to my Google Cal and got a reminder text 30 minutes before the time. I was apprehensive, given I never spoke to anyone in person, that I wouldn't have the booking I requested. It worked perfectly. Knowing what I know now, here's how you do hot pot. 1- pick a broth. Then pick a second flavor broth for a buck more and do the 1/2 pot option. 2- pick stuff to boil in your broth kind of like a fondue, but the soup is yummy so you eat it as you go along. 3- get a crap ton of the little finger bowls, fill them with all of the 25 sauce options at the sauce station and spread them out all over the table. Wait for the broth to boil and the add-ins to arrive, try the lemon over tea on a jar it's awesome. Listen to the hostess recommendations for what to order, they know their stuff. Repeat, repeat. Service was really great, attentive, kind, friendly. Place had a really good vibe to it. All of the ingredients brought out were super crisp and fresh. We didn't get any meats but I saw the monstrous plates of thinly sliced rolls of beef being served. Cool. Next time, because we saved a menu, we marked the things we liked, to speed up the ordering process. We'll order the half / half pot with 2 flavours of broth, one on each side of a divided pot. All but 4 of the veggie broths are made with plain water instead of chicken stock, which took us a long time to understand we need to add everything ourselves to flavor the stock. 3 of us sat there mumbling 'the soup had no flavor...' Duh, you have to station or with their gazillion sauces and things. After we 'got it', the 3 plain ones tasted really great. The other 2 people got cream of broccoli soup and coconut curry soup, which were already flavored. Damn, son. Like I said, if I knew then, I could have spent more time enjoying the food, not preparing the broth. Mine still tasted amazing. They didn't charge extra because we had more than 500g of add-ins we didn't finish, as the menu states. We went well over our 2 hour seating limit, and weren't charged extra. Just the most friendly servers you could imagine. When you walk in, the place is quite small - but very comfortable. Lets call it "cozy" ;) The servers will greet you with a smile and they recognize me every time after about my 3rd visit now (we go all the time!) They come to the table promptly and often and are absolutely adorable and funny. They are quick to help you select a spice-filled broth to get simmering while you select your buffet menu items on the provided menu. You tick off how many of each thing you'd like (2x sirloin beef, 1x chicken, 3 squid, 5 Golden Mushrooms, etcetc) The food comes out neat and tidy. The veggies are always very colourful, fresh and crisp. The sauce station is fun. Dozens of different condiments you can dish up in little dishes to dip your food in or even to spice up your broth. Hoisin, garlic, cilantro, leek flower, oyster sauce, chili sauce, chili oil, etc) Don't miss the famous iced tea. A big jar of flavourful sweet tea with fresh slices of lemon and mint. The perfect refresher for a steamy hot meal. A cool thing about Chili Hot Pot is that a lot of their hot items are included in the buffet price! A lot of other places around town charge extra (I love the curry squid, my friends love the deep fried buns!) I should also mention that they recently renovated the interior to be a little less cramped. Opening it up has helped a lot with the circulation and heat and I find it very comfortable now. As a tip, this isn't a place for kids/infants. There is no room for a pram or a car seat. read more

If you haven't been to Chili's yet then you are absolutely missing out! This is by far my favourite go to Hot Pot when I visit Edmonton. With a base price of $25 per person and $3 per soup base (20% off after 9pm) you can't be beat. What make Chili Hot Pot stand out against the other hot pots around the Edmonton area is their location, service, and selection. When you look at Chili on the outside it may look like an old building that has been on the block for the longest time but when you set foot inside you'll not only be filled with the aroma of Chinese hot pot but you'll be greeted very promptly with a nice warming smile and "hello." Parking is a hit or miss. You'll be LUCKY if you can park in the front but if not you can test your luck at the back. If both locations are occupied then you'll have to do some driving around the block until you can find a non restricted free parking spots which there are a lot by the way. Chili has a great selection of beverage but what I found interesting is when you order water, it's not your typical basic glass/plastic cup filled with water and ice but a glass of water and ice topped with a mint, a slice of lemon, and a slice of cucumber. Detox water anyone? Their AYCE menu and selection is off the charts (no pun intended) although they do have a limit of how many you can order per round how I noticed is that I ordered 20 mushrooms and 60 lamb slices for example and I've gotten 6 mushrooms and 40 slices of lamb. It's probably a food safety issue, just in case someone orders a lot but not finish it they don't want it to go to waste, which is fine. Recommendation to try besides their fancy water is their deep fried lobster dumpling with mayo, long donut, and hot bun with condense milk - if you have good taste buds you'll thank me later. All together Chili Hot Pot is a +1 in my books and I'll come back soon when I visit Edmonton again. read more

The meatballs are unreal. Handmade shrimp balls are great. Mushrooms are delicious. Etc They also have some hot food items. I dont recommend the dry ribs- but the green onion cakes are amazing and the spring rolls are vietnamese style (pork) I seen tables get rice etc You can also get raw potato or noodles or even trype That being said sashimi is also an item on the menu! (Salmon) The bowls you cook everything in are a tad on the personal size -so big enough to throw some dumpling and meat in and wait to cook (only a few min) There is a SAUCE station! Love, love, love Chili Hot Pot! At first I thought it was oddly named, but after trying their Sichuan soup broth I can definitely see where it's coming from - that stuff was SPICY. Perfect for stuffed noses and chilly winter nights! From the outside, this place doesn't look like much, but when you enter it has a nice, cozy feeling and the staff is ridiculously friendly. They are super attentive and really made us feel welcomed there. The service was reasonably quick (we got there right after it opened, so I think they were still getting everything set up) and the restaurant filled up very quickly. The menu is quite extensive and very dangerous if you go in hungry. The portions were huge and I definitely was eating with my eyes and over ordered food. My partner and I were struggling to finish what we ordered, oops!, and there is a charge for any surplus food over 500 g. The ingredients were all very fresh and everything came out within a 5 minute span of each other. A minor complaint is that the sauce making station isn't as extensive as I like, but that's just nit picking. Also, the ventilation isn't quite as good as some other places (ie. Urban Shabu) so you will leave palpably smelling like hot pot, which isn't such a big sacrifice for such yummy food. Plus, they gave us a $5 off coupon for our next visit at the end of our meal, which was awesome! Like I need another excuse to come to hot pot... The best thing is you get your own individual soup pot heat by induction cooktop. This cuts down on the heat generated by gas stoves. The service is top shelf by everyone in the restaurant.
