We heard some good things about this place so we decided to give it a shot. Good decor, seating and service! The price is a bit on the high side for effectively a home cooked chicken meal with a bowl of rice. It was actually too "home styled" from my liking. The only thing I really liked was the chicken side dish (I don't know the English name-the bill was in Chinese lol-so look at my pics). The food was not quite to my liking but the other stuff like service/ambiance etc was good. I will give them an average rating because there is nothing wrong with the food other than I found it too homey. You can be your own judge.

So I heard Yun Shang Rice Noodles finally opened a few blocks south of yonge and finch, but when I walked by to see it I saw this new braised chicken restaurant along with their own tea brand! Three-in-one quite an entrance into the competitive food scene in the area. It's been open for less than a week but it's already getting a lot of attention, with most of the tables occupied around dinner time and lots of take-out orders coming and going. Apparently there are over 6000 stores in china and quite a number of stores around the world, but this is the first in Toronto (under this name). The menu has english, chinese, and even korean, so you know they're catering to everyone here. Their main dish is braised chicken with a side of rice. Chicken comes in a sizzling stone bowl with peppers and mushrooms to start. You can customize it with additional toppings as needed if you'd like more variety. There's bone-in and boneless options for the chicken, but they're all still chicken leg meat just depends whether you want to deal with bones or not (I'd probably pay the extra $1.50 to have an easier time). Chicken was well-flavoured and extremely tender and juicy. The spices they used and the spice-level was perfect for my tastes and went well with the rice. Then they've got your usual snacks and apps (portions looked pretty good from what I saw at other tables), and then you've got the "Primitive Tea" drink menu. They own this tea brand so they have their own formula for making it. Apparently they do not use sugar in any of their teas, only honey if sweetening is required. I tried a kumquat lemon ice tea and it was quite refreshing. This place is an excellent addition to the yonge finch area.

Their specialty is the braised chicken rice as implied by the store's name. It was my first time trying this dish too. I ordered the braised chicken rice in regular flavour with a side of deep fried cuttlefish balls. The dish arrives as a set of two items. One is the actual braised chicken in a hot stone bowl with some bell peppers and an added soy sauce egg. Your rice comes in a separate bowl. The dish was just alright for me. The chicken was definitely really tender and cooked in a soy sauce-based broth. I didn't particularly like it nor did I hate it. The chicken definitely pairs well with the rice. The side of cuttlefish balls tasted springy and had a texture similar to that of fish balls. Nothing too special about this dish. This is a pretty casual place, so it would be nice to come here for lunch for a quick bite.

Takeout is decent. Definitely call ahead to avoid waiting. You can also try dining in, now that it is stage 3 of the covid19 reopening. There was no one dining in at the time. Portion size seems a bit smaller. Likely due to reduced revenues these days??!

I've noticed this brand have been expanding really quickly in the GTA region and finally had the opportunity to try it out with some friends. We ordered their signature chicken rice, one bone in, another bone out, a side of fried squid and ended up adding the beef brisket rice. I really enjoyed the chicken with the bone out one especially. Each dish came with a bowl of rice. The portion was very decent. I would say the portion is perfect for one person. The beef brisket one is really good also. The meet had an even amount of fat and meat making it not too dry and not overly greasy. They also cut it up in manageable bite sizes too which is a huge plus for me. I would definitely go back, this is a meal I can never get bored of. They seem to be really popular on food order apps too. The during my meal there, there were at least five people who came in picking up orders to be delivered!

Best value meal around the area. We were impressed by all dishes. Rougamou (meat inside bun) was delicious with juicy meat inside. Popcorn chicken was crisp and the chicken was not dry at all. Boneless chicken noodle, the noodle was chewy and bouncy. Boneless chicken rice, the chicken was juicy and the flavour goes amazing with rice. I'd definitely go back for these dishes again!

Reason for Visit: Saw the amazing reviews so decided to try it with some friends. Menu: Traditional Chinese style braised chicken with many different fried options for appetizers. Decided to pretty much try every appetizer on the menu. To be honest, most of them were okay , nothing memorable. All I remembered was that the sausages were a bit spicy so not everyone may enjoy the appetizer. Braised chicken was pretty good, the enoki mushrooms were a fantastic addition. However, it was really nothing special. Honestly, if I was in the area, I would just go to one of the Korean fried chicken stuff down the street for a similar price. Service: Average. It was reasonable. Waitresses were not that fluent in English so you may have to repeat yourself. Atmosphere: Very nicely decorated actually. I like their Chinese theme modern look restaurant. Walls and lights are very nicely renovated. Overall: Not the cheapest, probably ~$15-20 per person after everything. If I was in the area, I would probably just go to a Korean fried chicken place down the street. It's not bad to try once, but I didn't think it was anything memorable.

This restaurant is very mindful of social distancing during COVID. Ordering is done online and patrons scan a QR sticker on the dining tables to go directly to the menu webpage. The stone pot dishes were very flavourful but we wish portions were a bit bigger for the price.

    Boneless Chicken with Marinated Egg.

The boneless chicken was very tender and moist. The peppers were fresh and crunchy. The soup base was on the spicy side, but flavourful. For an additional $1.49, a marinated egg as the cherry on top. Portion was very decent. Comes with a bowl of steamed white rice as well. Overall, it was a good flavourful dish that's protein packed. They only take cash or debit as payment options.

Braised chicken with many extras Popcorn chicken

Uhhh. It's good but not as good the one we had in China. Maybe we should have less extras in it as the favour is not that concentrate. The chicken itself is very favourable and tender. The juice is perfect for the rice. 2 spoons of juice, I can finish a bowl of rice. Yummy yummy. Spam is super good. It's very close to the Chinese snack sausage (huo tui Chang). It will be great if they have sliced potato, red sausage and more veggies. Popcorn chicken is good favour but not crispy enough. Fried bean curbs are surprisingly nice! Crispy! It's good salty favour with some seafood sauce inside. The sesame on the top makes everything even better.

Came here on a Friday night with my hubby. As we were on our way, we joined the waitlist. However, when we got to the restaurant, we were the next to be seated anyways. The restaurant itself is quite small and is basically connected with the noodle restaurant next door so that you could actually see into it through the wall decor. For the appetizer, we ordered the deep-fried garlic tofu. It came with a sweet/salty sauce. It was steaming hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. But I thought the sauce was a bit overpowering and I got sick of the taste after 1-2 pieces. Would be a better dish to share with more people. For the main course, there were basically two options - braised chicken with bone and without bone. The other two mains were not available yet (I believe one was braised beef brisket). I ordered the boneless and my husband ordered the one with bones. I added lotus root cause I thought it didn't come with any veggies but it did come with some green and red peppers. I ordered the mild, which in my opinion was not even spicy at all and thats coming from a person that can't eat very spicy. I had to wonder what non-spicy would've tasted like. My hubby ordered spicy, which I thought was pretty spicy. I think if they had something else in between the mild and spicy, it would be perfect. The meat is all dark meat/chicken thigh meat so it was tender even though I got boneless. The sauce the chicken was simmering in was pretty good. It also comes with a huge bowl of rice. The cost could add up depending on how many additional items you add to customize your chicken bowl ($1.99 each). Service was good and attentive. Everyone was very nice and friendly. Overall, I would come back but when they have the other two mains available and with more people to try their other side dishes/appetizers.

How is the food? for food I am struggling between giving a 3 star or a 4 star, for me personally is a high 3 low 4, so I'll just provide 4. I think their side dish is really tasty, but their main dish is okay, I didn't really enjoy how the rice taste. The main dish you could choose from two different type, one is boneless and the other with bone, then you can choose spiciness level, I would say just go for the most spicy one, it is not that spicy. finally, you have the option to pick add-ons to the main dish which cost more money. the portion is already pretty big so I feel like you don't need add-ons. How is the service? service is good, they don't accept credit, so make sure you bring cash or debit card Would I recommend? on an occasional basis yes, they are interesting to try, but I probably wouldn't go back too often.

Went to this place while they are still in the soft opening stage. I like how the menu is simple and easy to choose your items. You just need to choose between bone-in and boneless chicken. I personally prefer bone-in, not only because it's cheaper, but I find it tastier with the bone and skin on. You can add sides in the rice for 1.99 each. I chose the broccoli. The amount they add is not worth the money. Don't even bother. The chicken has good flavor and not overly salty. The clay pot that it comes in keep the food warm. The portion is pretty big. Lots of chicken and big bowl of rice. We also tried the deep fried squid. The batter is thin and crispy, actually remind me of the street food in Hong Kong when I was young. I didn't try their cold dishes, but they seems to be decent size from looking at other tables. Overall, I think the food taste good and the price are very reasonable, especially in the Yonge area. The restaurant is connected to the noodle place beside it. It will be nice if you can order from their menu as well.

The chicken is tender and suitable for people who prefer a bit light flavour (i.e. not enough flavour). Portion is not small though.

I've been coming here for decades and I had many fond memories when I lived in the area. The place is a medium size restaurant and looked exactly the same. The service as fast as usual. Usually there's a long line to get in but we got a table for four right away on a Sunday after 1pm. Then after we ordered our server offered us a larger table which we really appreciated. And glad we did because all the dishes were huge! We ordered to share: -Ginger Scallion Lobster -Shrimps in lobster sauce on rice -Cantonese Chow Mein -Fried squid -Spring rolls Everything tasted great and fresh but I wish the ginger scallion lobster tasted better. It wasn't the same as the one I had at another restaurant on Baldwin St. that closed many years ago. But it was still so nice to return to this iconic Chinatown restaurant.

The only thing I did not like was when my mom barely finish they brought out the bill to rush us out. It wasn't that busy since it was after the lunch rush hour. The thing is when the bill came they overcharged us by a buck and we just decided to leave it be along with tipping them greatly. There was absolutely no interaction or even a thanks for stopping by and come back for more. This was my fave spot to eat whenever I'm craving for Chinese food, guess I will have to find something else. It's also cash only since they have an atm by the washroom entrance.

It was so packed but my brother was able to save a table while I did the ordering. This was a very casual and self service type of restaurant in which you can order at the front desk or at their kiosk. They had a limited time "promotion" going on in which you can order a maximum of 2 orders of their xiaolongbao or steamed mini soup dumplings for $2.99 with a minimum spend of $10. But honestly, I've seen this promotion since last year so I'm thinking it's actually a permanent offer. We ordered two orders of their pan fried pork buns, 1 order of their pan fried chicken dumplings, and 2 order of their promotional steamed mini soup dumplings. I thought everything tasted pretty good. The pan fried buns and dumplings were very crispy and quite juicy. My only nitpick is that I wished they put some kind of veggies or chives in their filling. It was just meat and felt too 1 dimensional for me. The steamed mini soup dumplings was actually really good though which is such a surprise at this price point. The outer layer was very thin and the filling was packed with soup. It was very delicious and hearty. Are these the best Chinese dumplings and bun's I've ever had ? No, but they were great especially for the price point. I would definitely come back again next time I am craving Chinese dumplings and buns. Also they take Amex which is always a plus in my book.

The posters outside caught my eye, and I decided to come back with a group of three friends to try it out. We came a bit late around 8 PM, and most of the fish were already sold out except the original. We ended up ordering the Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish ($40), a whole fish served bubbling hot with three toppings (potatoes, spam, and lotus root). You can choose between catfish and turbot, we chose the turbot fish. It looked extremely spicy, but the spice level was actually perfect. It was a bit on the oily side, but pairing it with rice balanced it out nicely. The fish was very tender and buttery, everything tasted amazing! We also ordered the Stir-Fried Egg with Tomato. The eggs were soft, the tomato sauce was rich. Not to mention the portion size was huge, we even had leftovers after eating until we were full. The restaurant itself was spacious, clean, and had plenty of seating. I think they were doing some sort of promotion so they gave us a $25 off coupon, though it expired pretty quickly so we didn't get to use it. I'd definitely come back for that grilled fish.

A few of their dishes come out on a sizzling plate with flames underneath. They are still in soft-opening mode with several specials. You can see the menus via a QR code. The Hunan cuisine is listed as "Hunan Noodles" and the Szechuan cuisine is listed as "Chopfire Menu". The Szechuan dishes are listed with 1 to 3 chilies representing the spiciness. If you can't handle spicy, then avoid eating the chili pieces and you might "survive". The restaurant decided to minimize their food offerings so that they can focus on refining their dishes in terms of quality and taste, including from customer feedback. We ordered the following: 1. Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish ($39.95). 2. Home Stir Fried Beef ($21.95). 3. Bullfrog with Baby Ginger ($19.95). 4. Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Pork ($15.95). 5. Drunk Oolong (charcoal roasted oolong tea base) x 2 ($5.95 x 2). 6. Lemon Taro Balls ($7.95). We also saw the following: 7. Stir-Fried Sliced Pork with Green Pepper Noodle Soup ($9.99). First 10 customers each day, only pays $1.00. 8. Ink Painting Cocktail ($5.95). The Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish came out on a huge sizzling platter. The BBQ Fish, a Turbot Fish, was very fresh and flaky, easily coming off the bone. There is no head attached like at typical Chinese restaurants but it would not have fit in the platter. The platter had a delicious sauce (soupy consistency and not sweet), luncheon meat slices, lotus root slices, and two other vegetables, along with chili pieces. The entire dish tasted great together with the various flavours. The menu listed it as 2-chili spicy but I could handle it by avoiding the chili pieces. The Home Stir Fried Beef is tender. It is listed as 3-chili but I could handle it by avoiding the chili pieces. The Bullfrog with Baby Ginger has the bullfrog cut up in little pieces; no you don't see a whole frog! The meat was actually good but most pieces have bones in it, so it takes time to eat it carefully. There was ginger slices in it but it, but we thought the slices were quite large! The Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Pork was very delicious! It came in a sizzling plate. The Cauliflower was flavourful and was not crunchy and not too soft. I've never had preserved pork slices before; it was quite good, not as salty as Chinese preserved vegetables. The Drunk Oolong has comes in a small bowl a with gin and ice. On the side, they include pieces of the charcoal roasted oolong tea leaves so you can smell it; quite a good smell indeed. You can also order it without the gin, which is what I ordered for mine (since I don't drink alcohol). It was such a nice drink! The Lemon Taro Balls dessert was pretty. In the centre was a slice of lemon. The customer service was good. There is plenty of indoor table and counter seating, including a small private room at the back. There is also an outdoor patio during warmer weather. There is pop music playing in the background. There is no free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There are two gender-neutral washrooms downstairs, so they are not wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2025-026

From the moment we walked in, the space already set the tone.. dark, dramatic, elegant, and beautifully designed without feeling overly stiff. It has that upscale energy that makes dinner feel like an occasion before you've even ordered anything. Food-wise, there was a lot to love. The signature apple wood roasted Peking duck was definitely a highlight, especially with the tableside carving, which made the whole experience feel even more polished and memorable. The skin had that beautiful lacquered finish, and the duck was rich, flavorful, and very satisfying. We also ordered a few larger dishes for the table, and I really appreciated how everything still felt refined without losing that comforting, indulgent side of Chinese dining. Some dishes leaned rich and luxurious, others were lighter and more aromatic, so the meal never felt repetitive. Service was another standout. I got the Braised Beef Noodles with classic noodles. Great food! I am traveling in Toronto for work…read moreand stopped by when I started craving home cooked beef soup. I am taiwanese and I have to say this was delicious. There is someone actually making noodles in the back. Service was quick and very nice and upbeat. My server was Kelly and she was great- I ate in and took what I didnt finish to-go and she even separated my noodles from the broth! The mango green tea was also fantastic. Thank you!

Toronto Review 4/Many: I went to this excellent Lanzhou spot with another person as one of my…read moreearlier meals. Our server, Sophia, was bubbly and friendly, giving suggestions and helping with the ordering process for the other person who wasn't as sure what they wanted. We eventually went with two appetizers and two entrees, which was more than enough food, and honestly, we could have only ordered one appetizer. The better of the two appetizers was the CAD 8.95 Hand Shredded Pepper Chicken/手撕椒麻雞/Shou Si Ji. The dish consists of cold chicken in a flavorful sauce, topped with some greens. The chicken was tender, with a mild, pleasant spice and a bit of numbingness from the Sichuan peppercorns, along with some fragrance, presumably from sesame oil. It reminded me a bit of salivating chicken you find in some Szechuan spots, but it was more aromatic and a bit less spicy. The other appetizer was the Steamed Edamame/岩鹽毛豆 with Himalayan pink salt for CAD 5.95. The other person chose between this and the vegetable dumplings, as he avoids pork, and it was, of course, lighter than the other appetizer. The decent portion of edamame was topped with some pickled carrots as a garnish. My main dish was the Braised Beef Noodles/紅燒牛肉面/Hong Shao Niu Rou Mian. The dish included several options, including size, noodle style, and spice level. I chose the large for CAD $20.95, medium spice, and for the noodle style, I chose flat/宽面, as it was closest to the prism style I like at Lanzhou spots in the States. Along with these, I also added a tea egg for an extra CAD 2.95. Outside the add-on, the dish also had a couple of large slices of radish. Compared to some spots in NYC, I slightly preferred the QQ/bouncy texture of the noodles at a spot near me. However, the broth was better here with a balanced amount of mala, though I would likely order spicy next time, as I tend to add chili oil to the relatively lighter Lanzhou broths. The beef was also much better, being tender with a mild chew regardless of whether it was tendon or other cuts. The tea egg was flavorful and worth the add-on, especially when the inside was dipped further into the broth. I can see why others order this. The other person went with the Signature Stir-fried Noodles/招牌炒面/Chao Tatiaozi. There was an option of protein, and he went with Chicken for $17.95 and added the same egg. I tried a bit, and there was a pleasant pepperiness with a bit of numbing flavor, but less than my dish. The noodles had a good bounciness and overall had a slightly better chewiness than mine. This was lighter overall, but also tasty. This spot has apparently come to the US already at the Mall of America, and I would love it if there were a location closer to me. Good place.
