reviewing the campground only... This was my first camping here and i hosted a large event with a bunch of ladies. The sites were nice and large; believe they were $30 per night (i believe) - omg the restrooms were cleaned very frequently. Please note - i didn't see anywhere on site that sold wood so make sure load up before arriving. Bring your kayak as well - easy access to the dock and also lots of people fish near the early. there is so little space and 4 feet between camping spaces the huge problem is this is camping and it's supposed to be in nature but we got a plot of land with ONE tree there is absolutely no privacy and not a second of piece and quite. for every tree there it's a family of people and that's really annoying and loud there so it's not worth it I guess this is worth it if you don't like privacy. the noise is louder then the rage at the Epstein scandal so anyway it's cheap but it's LOUD read more

So, unless you like to be in another person's back pocket, I would not recommend here. The sites are so packed closely together that you can't tell which site is supposed to be yours unless you happen to see the faded painted numbers on the ground. And even then, other campers will probably be in your spot, especially if they have RVs. Make sure you get there to check in before 10 p.m. No maps at all unless you count the online map that might not even load, but no indications on where you might be at any given point, especially if you happen to come at night. This campground is extremely claustrophobic and would not recommend. Made the two hour trip to enjoy Labor Day weekend only to find other campers who decided to PARK their cars in our campsite. **this review is for the campground** Fantastic campground. Yankee Springs is probably our families favorite after Ludington. Sitting right on Gun Lake this park offers so much to do. We were fortunate enough to get a site right on the channel. The sites on the outer loops are slightly bigger than the inner loops and if you are looking for a more wooded view the furthest outer loop offers more secluded, wooded spots. Fishing, and swimming were the big draws here. Being right on the channel we could fish from our site, but there is a nice public area and dock next to the boat launch (you can bring your boat and tie it right by your site if you're on the channel). The beach areas are much simpler and smaller than the ones on Lake MI, Gun Lake is also shallower so keep that in mind. At the day use area there is another beach, and the camp store (independently owned) has a huge inflatable water slide you can purchase access to. This was a winning stay, and at only 45 minutes from Grand Rapids we will make sure we come again and again. read more

Well we just spent three nights here. It looked like a normal Michigan State Campground. But this one has its oddities. First and foremost SNAKES in the water at the campground beach! Yes snakes! WTF! No thanks I don't want to swim with snakes! Another camper told us about them and sure as sh!+ as soon as we walked down to the water there was one just hanging out. Supposedly they don't bother anyone. When we went down there just on a walk no one else was on the beach. The other problem I had with the beach was the sand was very muddy. It was strange mud and sand mix. It did rain very hard and a lot a day or two before we got there, which brings me to the other problem with this campground, flooded sites. The rain came Hard on Wednesday, we Rolled in on Thursday night. After setting up our camp we took a walk around the park like we always do. I would estimate that one third of the sites had standing water on them. Our site had a damp area on it, but no standing water at that time. The guy across the way that told us about the snakes said earlier in the day we had water there. Some sites still had water late Friday. Early morning Sunday we had rain for a couple hours and this left us with standing water until we left at 1:00 p.m. A family that were in a tent across from us had left before I even got up, when I went out about 9:00a.m. they were gone and their site was under water. It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway the sites that dried up had standing water again. It seem like they could do something about this. So as you can imagine with all this standing water comes MOSQUITOS!!! And lots of them!! Definitely bring something to keep them away. This is a big time boat park. Lots of boats of all kinds ski, fishing, canoe, kayak, paddle. It has a canal that runs along the one side of the campground where you can tie off your boat and leave it during your stay. There is a grassy walk way between the sites there and the tied off boats. Seems nice. There is also a boat launch at the inside end of the canal for campers to use. Most of the sites that were not wet looked decent. I think it would be a nice park without the flooding and snakes in the water and the muddy beach. The Bath houses (2 of them) are the States newer style which I think are nice. They were very clean. Which is always a good thing. The state must stress this as I have found at other parks they are clean and cleaned often. The staff seemed nice and friendly as is the case in other State parks I visit. They even had a guy I saw Sunday morning as I was breaking down camp going to each fire pit and cleaning out any garbage left behind! Very nice to see! But I don't think I can go back, snakes flood and mud are not idea of fun. But if they are this is the park for you!!! read more

This lake is seriously so magical in the summer time, I already miss it and I'm still here. The Yankee Springs Rec Area is the dividing point between East and West Gun Lake, and incidentally the two sides are like crips and bloods, so Yankee Springs is the de facto DMZ. Killer bird watching. Plenty of herons for you to admire their funny backwards legs. We also saw a young family of ducks waddling around. There are picnic tables, perfect for picnicking, and I believe camping also. Little beaches for sunbathing or people watching. The lake is rather shallow and muddy, so the swimming isn't amazing, but still fun, since the water is about pool temp. Fireflies at night, and about a million giant mosquitoes. Come prepared! read more

I love going out here every summer. Swimming at Gun Lake, or renting out Long Lake cabins with my family has a lot of great memories. It's very busy on weekends, if you have the day off during the week you should head out around noon before everyone gets out of work. There's a nice beach area at Gun Lake so the kids can play. Campgrounds are always clean, though they always seemed a little cramped. read more

Been coming here since I was a kid so enough said about how many times I've been here :). I have to say this place is a love-hate relationship. The air is so beautiful; so much to see: the lake, walk in the woods, nearby taverns and restaurants. On the other side, the campground is way "overstuffed" compared other Michigan state campgrounds. Wait f-o-r-e-v-e-r to dump. I think there are too many other GREAT Michigan state campgrounds to waist time here - unless you like being a sardine;) read more

I'm partial as I grew up at a cottage on Gun Lake. Large State Park with two main swimming beaches, lots of picnic areas and grassy places to put out a blanket. Two bath houses for changing, bathrooms, etc. It has large camping area which I don't use. Also several boat launches. Can get very busy on summer weekends. Great place to be active or just veg. I'm onto the veg. thing. Bliss. read more

One of the nicest state parks to camp at in this part of the state. We were unfortunate to not be able to use the beach due to some bacteria in the water. Showers are clean and the staff very helpful. Sites seem to be bigger than some other parks in the area. We will return in the future. read more

We just returned from a weeks camping at gun lk. We were fortunate to get a lake front site and had a great stay. We are always impressed by the staff and the way they keep the park in first rate shape. We had great weather and were able to get out in the water the beaches are very nice and sandy. Restrooms and showers are very clean. Fishing was good and lake is beautiful to explore. This is a winning choice for camping. read more

I grew up going to this camp ground and now it is even better. They have done a great job keeping up with the camp and it truly is one of the best family camp grounds in the state. Lots of things to do and a nice swimming area. Open space to play games and great hiking/biking trails. read more

Yankee Springs (State Park) is a true gem - the picnic area that runs between the halves of Gun Lake has nice beaches, picnic tables, concession building with restrooms, and a small playground. There are two boat launches and nice sandy areas to anchor a boat for a while. There's also a wonderful campground that's RV-friendly with boat slips, plus one that's rustic for tenters. The entire rec area is around 20,000 acres and offers hiking, mountain-biking, cross-country skiing and snowmobile trails. Also has an Equestrian trail system and campground. In my opinion, one of Michigan's finest State Parks! read more
