We were the only table seated that night, but, as I mentioned, takeout and catering and special events are their specialty. The food was delicious all around: Pastrami and corned beef sandwiches on rye about which someone said, "I haven't tasted rye bread like this in years!" - and the fillings were raved about as well. The knaidlach weren't the small, plain (but excellent) ones like my Bubba used to make, but king-size and filled with a savory fine-ground meat center with a hint of onion and ? I expected the Hungarian goulash to be tomato-based. Instead, there I found the brisket I had looked for in vain on the menu. A bowl of tender-as-can-be, highly flavored beef in a brown broth. Although lean, the dish was so rich that it was almost too much to finish. The kishka was also great, although it didn't come with gravy as it does at Lox, Stock & Deli. No matter, it was amazing. The service was a bit, well, silly, as the nice young woman who took the orders got overwhelmed by our changing our minds as well as with misunderstandings as well as, somehow not hearing our orders properly. No matter, no harm done. The only surprise was that when we asked for water, they gave us bottled for which we paid. But overall, the price? Outrageously low. The goulash, with two sides, was under $9, for instance. I'd eat here every day if I could.

I'm honestly not sure what was more impressive to me; the soups or the sandwiches. I guess I'll start with their namesake, the soup. First time I came here I tried the French onion, since what better 'simple' soup to judge a soup place by, right? Excellent, right out of the gate - utterly bursting with caramelized onion flavor, and just a hint of brandy, I believe? I later came back and tried the Thai coconut and "thanksgiving dinner" soups, with each one seriously cramming a ton of flavor into each bite. Never thought I'd be blown away by soup, of all things, but here we are. The sandwiches are just as good as the soups were, and are priced really fairly for the quality and portion you get. Most of their sandwiches are made on their homemade "pesto bread", which may be the moistest, softest bread I've had in years. If you can't decide, they seem to run specials frequently, where you can get a sandwich & cup of soup. The only 'negative' I can think of is that since sandwiches are made to order, it can take ~10-15 mins to get sandwiches and the like, but this isn't a McDonalds, so I feel like that's expected. Besides, your patience is greatly rewarded. Skip the chain food; there's some really inspired, friendly folks here cranking out some of the best stuff in town. Well worth a visit, imo!

He started off by not speaking loud enough for the entire table to hear and catering to only one person at the table which frustrated others at the table. During the meal the same waiter forgets to order my sons lemonade while the rest of the group gets their drink and to make things worst, other members of our party got second drinks while my son still has not received his first drink. Just FYI my son has special needs so yest that upset me. One big NO NO Is for a waiter to reach over a customer who is eating which this waiter did and his arm pit was so close to my face while I'm trying to take a bite, just to hand someone a spoon on the other sided of the table which is what he did. I advised him he should have walked around to the other side of the table to hand the spoon to the person. That was the start of ruining my meal at this establishment. The owner (Chef RIVERA) was sitting at the bar about 5 feet away mind you,, while this took place and totally heard my complaint to the waiter but did nothing and even at the end of our meal he (Chef RIVERA) was advised by the waiter how unhappy I was and still didn't even get up off his fat ass to apologize or acknowledge the poor service experience. Chef RIVERA just sat there continuing his conversation with his friend. Mind you he was only a our 5 feet away from us and heard me complain over and over. He heard me complain when they took the steak knife and fork away and my son was not even finished eating and he heard about the drinks issue and the reaching over me issue. So for this poor dining experience that left a bad taste in my mouth, I give this establishment a 1 star. I will never give this place a 3rd chance and it's due to the service and the owner who doesn't care as well as the lack of acknowledgment that anything is or was wrong with their service. Thank you Mr. CHEF RIVERA for such a POOR DINING EXPERIENCE... we spent $390 day one & $157day two. Good luck Chef RIVERA, So sad that your 20 plus years experience in the industry has not helped you deal with customers... take that chip off your shoulders and maybe your place could be 100x's better....
