I chose Dr. Thurman Edward Wood, O.D. in Bakersfield because of all the great Google reviews--and I'm glad I did. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and well taken care of. The staff who did my initial exams were fantastic (wish I caught her name!). I went through a few different tests--one with VR, one for eye pressure, and another where you stare at a balloon through a small hole. She explained everything clearly and made me feel comfortable. When it was time to see Dr. Wood, I was even more impressed. He really took his time with me, focusing on my personal needs and listening to my history of eye concerns going back 15 years. He answered all my questions--including which eye is dominant--and gave me a very thorough exam. I left feeling reassured, confident, and cared for. My wife had her exam as well and was equally impressed with the doctor's attention to detail. Best part? I found out I don't need glasses! Unfortunately, the experience didn't end as strong. When my wife went to pick out glasses, the sales rep assisting her was pretty inattentive. Instead of guiding us through price points or styles, she just kept saying, "Take your time and look around," while sitting off to the side. We were on a bit of a time crunch, and after letting them know we couldn't finish that day, the atmosphere felt a little awkward. We paid for the exam and left, but my wife and I agreed in the car that while the exam experience was excellent, we'll be purchasing glasses elsewhere. Overall: Dr. Wood and the medical side of the visit were phenomenal. I highly recommend him for anyone needing a thorough and thoughtful eye exam. Just be prepared that the glasses-buying process might not be as attentive as you'd hope.

The waiting area is roomy and comfortable with TV. . After a short wait , Denise my technician brought me back and we went through a battery of many tests. She was awesome, friendly and professional. The office is very large, clean and organized, Dr. Vance and her assistant were a super team, very experienced and organized we did many examinations and tests there was no rush. All my questions were answered throughly, it was great professional experience. I didn't have time this visit to pick out frames from their large selection, but I will return soon. The billing department, was just as professional and friendly as all the other staff. Southwest eye care is a must stop for all your vision needs.

The offices are conveniently located right on China Grade Loop. What I like about this location, which he shares with North Bakersfield Dental group, is that you can park out in front on the street and just walk right in the front door and you're there. With doctors that have offices in the major medical complexes there is always the hassle of parking, walking down long hallways and taking the stairs or elevators to get where you're going. This is so much more convenient. They share not just the building, but the waiting room with a dentist's office. There is plenty of seating, a flat screen television, and sports memorabilia to entertain yourself with while you wait. There is even free wifi (they have the password posted inside) so you can surf the internet while you wait - and a fountain in the waiting room. My boyfriend has always been happy with his medical care here. On this particular visit, we were here so that he could get the side pieces of his eyeglasses readjusted. They ushered him into the back and had him back out front in under 5 minutes. Best of all, they didn't charge him for the service. It's getting to be about time for me to get my eyes checked again and get a new prescription, and once I confirm that they take my insurance I'll be heading back here myself.

I had PRK surgery to correct my horrible vision last December. I was never a candidate for any…read morelaser correction surgery before because my cornea is too thin. However, Dr. Miller knew I was always interested and when the technology got good enough to make me a candidate I jumped at it. It was pretty expensive but I didn't care. I've had such bad vision my entire life and I hated contacts and glasses. The surgery plus all post treatment was $4800 (after 15% covered by my insurance). Dr. Stainer does all the eye surgery and I felt in very good hands. They answered all my questions and were honest about the expected results. They said I may never have 20/20 vision with my eyes and I wasn't a candidate for a second procedure. So this was my one and only shot. Well now I see 20/15 (better than 20/20) and my eyes are still healing and I should see the final results within 6-12 months so it could get better. My only complaint about both of their offices is the very long wait times. I've waited over an hour once for a 10 minute post-op visit. Expect your appointment to run 30-45 minutes late on average unless you book early in the morning. However the time you spend in the waiting room is worth the dedicated care you receive. I would recommend Dr. Stainer for laser eye surgery any day.

So, coming here, it was very refreshing to discover that there are some places that still know how to run a business with great professionalism and customer service. This review is for a contact lens exam that I received earlier today. It was my first visit to Takhar Eye Care. First of all, the front desk is fantastic. They actually answer the phone! Promptly and friendly too! They are clear in communicating and very detailed oriented. The front desk can make or break whether or not I'd like to even make an appointment in the first place, let alone come back. But the prompt and responsive service was immediately impressed upon me even before I arrived. They also had appointments available within a reasonable timeframe, which is hard to find these days. Secondly, the doctor is also fantastic! Really took the time to learn about what I needed and didn't rush through the exam. He was efficient and thorough, carefully checking my eyes. He listened to my idiosyncratic requests and was able to meet all of them. Also, he explained some of the process of the exam that I never knew before! The place was super clean and organized. And, they had a contact lens removal station with lens cases and solution! It's so odd, but for the past 15 years plus, it has always been a hassle to take out my contacts at eye exams. When I saw a whole station ready with sink, mirror, cases, and solution (for soft contact lenses), I was seriously shocked and happy. At past offices, I have been given grief for not bringing my own supplies, provided only hard contact lens solution with no other option, needed to walk down outside of the office to a faraway restroom, or used areas without an available mirror at all. What a relief it was that I didn't have to overcome any of these obstacles just to take out my lenses for the exam! Overall, A+++ for Takhar Eye Care. Thank you!

Called the number and asked to come in to just look at frames, only to be told that a current customer was currently being assisted then they were going to lunch. Asked if lunch was still at 1pm, and told it was. So apparently it takes 1 whole hour to assist a customer, walk-ins are not welcome, and you can't come in to just look at frames. Terrible customer service...you just lost 2 potential new customers as both my daughter and myself are in need of frames. Literally just wanted to look at frames, already had our prescriptions.

On 1/23/2021 at 9:30am I went in for a wrong prescription given to me twice at this location. Delia a very professional and sweet lady did look at my glasses and did find my issue true. She schedule me to see Louis Allen at 11:20am for appointment which I was going to pay $$ again. I waited till that time and and past that time at about 11:55am waiting for so long I was told by Allen and his clerk to come back on a Tuesday. That was not acceptable and I try to talk to Allen and he just said "I'm going to lunch and walked away". I talk to Delia about the treatment I received and she apologized and quickly started to look for other Dr's to view and correct my glasses. The location here I will advise only buy glasses for average service meaning some ladies are great and others are below average service. For Dr. Louis Allen and his clerk they should look for something that doesn't involve people skills or service. I will be calling Target, I wont be getting any of this on the future from Target nor my 5 kids and wife, it really sucks!!!

I have usually been met with condescending comments and unfriendly doctors, but love that I am saying that I just had the most pleasant experience with Dr Allen and his staff. He is an amazing and thorough doctor. I feel like he heard my concerns and is working with me to give me options instead of just saying that's how it is, deal with it. I didnt catch the name of the man who was helping me pick my glasses, but he was amazing as well. He helped me pick out my glasses and helped explain the way my insurance works.
