What is the first sentence of praise? THANK YOU is the only one that comes to mind. And I'm not a guy who praises a lot. 5 months ago my wife had brain surgery to remove a brain tumor. The removal caused permanent hearing loss and facial paralysis. The facial paralysis caused horrible eye pain. So much so most nights she cried. We have Kaiser insurance and those that do understand the lack of care. My wife kept waiting for an appointment to see an eye surgeon. Waiting and waiting and waiting. Nothing. Then one day I had enough. I researched Bakersfield for an eye surgeon who specialized in the treatment she needed. I am overjoyed that I found Bakersfield eye. I walked in without an appointment, asked for an administrator and from that conversation my wife's tears dried up. What Kaiser couldn't/wouldn't do in 5 months Bakersfield eye solved in three weeks. I am generally very forgiving about waiting to be seen but must admit that today's visit was not as expected. my wife had to wait two hours to be seen for an appointment she was on time for. The total time spent here: 3 hours. For a follow up exam. This is not the way to run a modern business of medicine. We've done PET scans in less than an hour. read more

Dr. Hair has failed his patient. My father, a long time patient (and fellow physician no less), was not made aware of other interventions available to him and he ended up losing sight in one of his eyes. The lady who brought me to the back room and conducted my initial exam was extremely rude. She continuously cut me off and insisted that I didn't know what was wrong with my own eye. When I tried to tell her all of my symptoms she cut me off and dilated my eyes with the drops and told me to go wait for the doctor. When I spoke with the Dr. it was clear the first lady did not take down anything of what I said. The Dr. was surprised with what I told her as if she was hearing it for the first time. My eyes were having issues with dilating, focusing, and blurred vision from a severe eye poke in a rugby match. But because the previous lady dilated my eyes with the drops the Dr. was unable to evaluate my eyes ability to focus and dilate on their own (she shouldn't have gave me the drops if the Dr. needed to check out my ability to focus my pupils). The Dr. basically said there was nothing she could do to help or check because of the dilated state of my eyes (from the drops) but she insisted I come in for another appointment to check if I needed glasses (I had perfect vision before the eye poke, so it's clearly trauma related). She was also very rude to my girlfriend who accompanied me and she shot us dirty looks on the way out. They also didn't mention my insurance wouldn't cover their services until we were checking out. This place did nothing for me except leave me with a bill. If I could give negative stars I would. Do not come here. read more

A -3 because of the receptionist probably a 60 year old lady who dyes her hair, a yellow blonde color. (Not attractive) I arrived for my 9:45 appointment five minutes early filled out my paperwork handed it back to her. I asked where do I go to wait for my appointment and she said go over there pointing across to the other end, so I waited on the other side of the room until 10:15 which was 35 minutes after my arrival. I walked back up to the counter and I said to the lady, I notice everyone has folders am I supposed to have one? she said yes you are. I told you to sit right here. I'm getting it ready, but she had a lady who walked up right after me that she proceeded to take 10 more minutes to make my folder and checked me in at 10:30 instead of 9:40 when I arrived. I hope Karma gets her. The technician that worked on me was also rude. I was called in at 10:40 which was one hour after my arrival, the first thing out of her mouth was aren't you late? I said no I was here at 9:40. She decided to be very rough with me. She yanked my upper eyelid up really hard to put the drops in, totally rude behavior. It's the tech that's been working there for 13 years. I will never have her go near me again you don't just decide you're going to yank somebody's eye up because you're irritated or impatient that is so freaking unprofessional. I probably should report her for mishandling my eyes and get her fired. Her name is Alma! When I made this appointment, I thought it was just a consultation where I would just be talking to the doctor to find out options for my situation. I did not know it was a full-blown exam and getting my eyes dilated. No one explained that to me, and I've never had that happen to me before so I was totally in the dark. The assistant should have explained this to me from the very beginning exactly what she was doing to make me feel comfortable. Once again, I'm probably going to find a way to report Alma. I met with the doctor by this time it was already 1120 before I met with him and he spent all of about maybe seven minutes with me. He looked at my eyes. He said that I candidate for cataract surgery. I asked him a few questions. He seemed like a pretty nice person, I hope all goes well when I do have surgery. Anna, who does the scheduling for surgeries was super sweet and professional so I must say that doctor Hair and Anna were the most professional of the entire place. I hardly leave reviews, but I think it's important to hold people accountable recently my grandmother went for an appointment to set up eye surgery. She checked in at the front desk with a not very happy young lady, black curly hair. And I say that only because my grandmother and my sister both stated that, that was the first thing they noticed upon walking in to the office, a "not so friendly face" she hands them a chart and says " Go sit over there" my grandmother and sister took the chart and sat where the lady pointed to. They waited for almost 30 min , they finally got up to ask if it was almost their turn , they asked the young lady with glasses sitting next to the other lady, she glanced at the chart and said " you need to go sit over there, they'll call you back shortly. Apparently the not so friendly lady in the front forgot to let the back office know that they were waiting. But fine, we understand things happen. They took her back, the nurses in the back were very nice and patient, Dr. Hair was very knowledgeable and professional. It was time to schedule surgery. They met with a young lady who was polite and very friendly. While there my grandmother expressed to her how frustrated she was with a situation that happened up front. The not so friendly lady gave us the WRONG CHART! thankfully the nurse in the back realized what happened and was able to correct the mistake before any damage could have happened. Again we understand things happen, but what really upset them was that while my grandmother was in the room with the Dr my other sister waited in the front, she the supervisor speaking to the young lady up front trying to figure out what happened. The not so friendly lady had the audacity to blame it on my grandmother!! She lied to the supervisor saying that she verified the information on the chart before handing it to my grandmother and my grandmother confirmed that the information was correct, WHICH WAS A LIE. THE LADY ASKED MY GRANDMOTHER HER NAME AND HANDED THE CHART TO HER. NO INFORMATION WAS VERIFIED. We understand mistakes happen, but take some accountability, don't blame patients . Again we know mistakes will happen, but from walking in, to being forgotten, to be given someone else's chart to sitting there listening to the front ladies talk about there drama with there husbands , not ok. In the end if we erase that whole fiasco with the front desk lady, everything else was great. We did ask the surgery lady to mention this to her supervisor because we did not want to look like it was our fault, we don't know if she did, but she assured us that this was an isolated situation and that they take pride in the way they run their office, and we believe that is true. Had an appointment scheduled for an eye exam. Found out when I arrived that they couldn't find my insurance. They said they discovered this the day before. Then I wondered why I didn't get a call the day before. Then they asked me "Do you actually even have insurance?", which answered my question. I guess they thought I was trying to scam them. So, I asked our HR gal to contact the insurance company and get me a copy, front and back, of my insurance card to give them. I started calling to see if I could text it, only to not have anyone answer who didn't immediately put me on hold. I went to them because they were "highly" recommended, but in all honesty, I didn't see anything that ranked "highly." Inept is the word that comes to mind. However, I still set up the appointment, and I have to say their overall service was really good. As I walked in greeted right away and soon took care of me. They were patient and but helpful. I am new to Bakersfield and needed to find a new optometrist. I was very well treated by the doctor and staff on my initial visit for the exam. The first trial prescription for contacts did not work well at all. After a re-test a new prescription was written. After trying the new trial prescription, I called the office to place the order. The answering service took down my information and assured me that I would receive a call with the pricing options. The call never came. The next week I drove to the office to place the order in person. Two weeks later, having not heard anything, I stopped in to check on the status of my order. The order had never been placed. They took my order AGAIN, and two weeks later I received a call that my contacts had finally arrived. I am well pleased with the contacts, but less than enthusiastic about the service. My husband was referred by his Physician to see an ophthalmologist for his foggy vision which he had been suffering with for a year due to a misdiagnosed by his previous optometrist . Well the Ophthalmologist here immediately diagnosed him with bad cataract on both eyes and got his insurance approval quickly for the surgery that my husband required. My husband had two appointments ,one eye at a time . Well Knowing what I know now, I would never have recommended Bakersfield Eye Institute to my father. THEY DISCRIMINATE AGAINST THE ELDERLY. We saw an optometrist, a woman, Who just recommended that my dad put a gel on his eyelid for a cut, and continue putting drops in his left eye for the dryness. Dr. Hair saw my father, checked for glaucoma, and said that everything looked fine (March 2021). They adjusted the eye prescription a few times, and it did not help my father at all. He struggled seeing. He knew something was wrong. Now, let's fast forward to August 2, 2021. My husband and I moved to Hensley Arkansas. My father came with us. Did I mention he is 96 years old. It's important to note that. Because, today, my dad saw a glaucoma specialist at UAMS in Little Rock, Arkansas. The doctor that saw my dad, along with a retina specialist, went above and beyond especially at the bakersfield Eye Institute. UAMS discovered my father has macular degeneration in both eyes and glaucoma in advanced stages in his left eye. We were never told this at Bakersfield eye Institute. We were told that he was OK and his pressure was fine and his glaucoma was under control and looked fine. Guess what? My dad is not fine. If the doctors did their job in Bakersfield, my dad would not be struggling right now. That is a fact. It is not an opinion. My dad could have gone through laser treatment and other drops, but that was never an option given to him in Bakersfield. I questioned.......the doctors at the bakersfield Eye institute AND THEY DID NOTHING. The doctors at UAMS are trying their best and they are providing a great treatment plan for my dad. If you are elderly, I would steer clear of the Bakersfield Eye Institute, for they discriminate against the elderly. They did not do anything for my dad. I was with him every time. I questioned. I watched. I followed up. I followed through. They do not care about the elderly. They do minimal, and then bill an extravagant amount. Several years ago, doctors office initially had referred my son to a terrible surgeon out of their office. He was supposed to repair orbital damage to his eye, which would take a fiber mesh. This mesh was supposed to dissolve and never bother him once it heals. The morning of the surgery he exited the surgery and advised us that they delivered the wrong product and she placed a titanium plate inside of his orbital socket. He will forever be faced with the problem of this possibly shifting and ended his sporting career. Recently I went to this doctor for a routine eye exam. They do not carry glasses that fit me, therefore; I brought in a new pair that was purchase recently. They advised me that they cannot take outside glasses, then they lied and said these glasses were no longer manufactured. I will never return to this eye doctor again. They had a surgeon that changed my sons life, then they refused to service me by manufacturing eyeglasses that fit. Bakersfield Eye Institute used to be the best place in town to go to for eyecare but the latest experience I had there has me planning to go somewhere else. In February I went to BEI for a new contact lens prescription. It should be noted that I have a very rare genetic eye condition (CHM) that BEI is familiar with, and has documented. I have worn Accuvue Oasys contact lenses for nearly 10 years with no trouble. The optometrist (probably should have been the ophthalmologist, considering) very hastily performed an exam and told me my new prescription had changed somewhat. He told me my Accuvue contacts were outdated and I should try a new brand that is more "modern" and lasts longer. The optometrist gave me the new brand of contacts and said that he only had one in my prescription and that I could put it in one eye, and put a less powerful one in the other eye to try for a few days, and they would order my actual prescription. This was a little disappointing, and difficult to drive home with, but I went with it. Three days later the less powerful lens fell out and was destroyed, probably because of my constant blinking to try and see out of it. I wound up reverting to my old Accuvues so I could still function, thinking my new lenses would be in within a few days. Two weeks later I called the office to see if my new lenses were in. Turns out they never ordered them. I finally got them another week later and found even with the right prescription. I could not use them comfortably. I lost three lenses in the following month. Two were destroyed and could not be reused. I called the office again citing these issues and asked for an updated prescription, but in my old Accuvue brand that seemed to work. They wanted me to try them on to see if it made a difference but lo and behold, once again they only had one in my proper prescription and the other was of a lower power. The optometrist also suggested I check in with a retina specialist at CRC and the front desk staff said they would make an appointment for the following week. I never heard from them. After repeated calls in which they did not know what I was talking about, someone finally told me I would get a letter in the mail and to make my own appointment later. Meanwhile, it is nearly three months after my initial appointment and I still have one contact that is the correct prescription and the other is less than what it should be. read more

I recently had 2 eye surgerys there and I have to say it's one of the most professional medical business I've ever experienced. The staff up front are nice and welcoming. The staff that see you before the doctor in the back are consummate professionals. The surgery center was clean professionally run and I had no qualms about being there twice during Covid-19. I had cataract surgery with Dr. Hair, and I have to say, I was treated with the utmost care. I Have recommended his office to many people and will continue to do so. Today I called to make an appointment for a consultation for eyelid surgery. It's not unusual for them to drape after cataract surgery. I was asked if I minded holding for a moment and I said no. After a prolonged wait, on hold, I hung up and called again. I was asked again if I minded holding for a moment, and I said yes, I had already been on hold for a prolonged period, and she replied that now I was behind two other people and would have to wait longer. She had a patient in front of her. I told her no, I could call another Ophthalmologist. I don't know if this was her first rodeo, or if she was just rude, but she was leaving at least 3 people on hold for who knows how long. read more

first time i went there the eye doctor had a very bitchy attitude as soon as she walked in the room and was very rude the whole time basically asking me and my mother why we were here and saying 'patients always get dumped off into our office' like it was our fault. The doctor then took us to speak to the office manager and she was extremely rude to us as well. im not sure what was up everyone's ass that day but they had no reason to be disrespectful. We then came back for a second time and had seen a different doctor which was so nice and it was a totally different experience from the first time. We then came back today, two weeks later and it was horrible. Front office staff is very rude, yelling at my mother about putting her mask up multiple times when all she was doing is wiping her nose. The whole time 4 different people around us didn't have their mask up and they only seemed to pick on us. An office staff then came over and told my mom she couldn't have her dog in here without proof of a license. I do not understand why she could not have told my mother that when she first seen she had a dog. My mom told her she has one but it's not on her and the lady proceeds to tell my mother that she needs to show her proof. Keep in mind the second time we visited that place and we brought our dog all the staff in the back loved him and were so nice even holding him. My mother then sets the chart down on the table next to her and we walk out. When she called to speak to a manager about the be behavior of the staff they tell my mother 'you threw the chart at her' no she did not. This is a terrible place and i do not recommend unless you want to be treated like shit. read more

Seem to be very competent at cataract surgery, however much of the staff are not warm, nor very helpful (post-op assistant, etc). This facility is busy for a reason. They are not the cheapest place, nor do they have the shortest wait time. Instead they have doctors who care and are willing to be patient to ensure every patient receives the best vision possible. If you have keratoconus like I do, they offer hard gas permeable contacts that brought my vision back close to 20 20. Dr. Moir even spent valuable time repairing old sceleral contacts to remove a coating that was causing an issue. She could have told me I needed new contacts but spent the time to fix the old ones. I recently had an bad eye infection. I called 4 different offices and was unable to get an appointment for 2-3 weeks until I called here. I was told that I could come in but was being worked into a full schedule. I took my chances. When I arrived the staff was very busy but they were kind and accommodating. I did wait almost an hour but the doctor was very good and apologized for the wait. I have ready many reviews of this office and did a little research of my own. This is the only office that sees emergencies. This is the only office that does not charge $100 if you need to be seen as an emergency. I am grateful and appreciative for Dr Hair and his staff. read more
