Nipped in here for lunch after trying to get into Cowfish, but had to leave due to a long wait and an upcoming appointment. Very large restaurant, modern and even somewhat elegant. Huge bar area and a terrific assortment of beer. Despite being rather empty, it took the hostess some time to get us seated. Once we were seated, our server came over right away to take our orders, but then proceeded to disappear for about 15 minutes. Since we already lost time trying to get into Cowfish, we were becoming nervous about making our nearby appointment (roughly an hour after we sat down). The server came back with our drinks and we placed our order at the same time. Another 15 minutes pass and our food (a burger for me and salad for her) was still missing, and we hadn't seen our server walk by the entire time. After another 10 minutes, just as we were about to hunt down a manager, a food runner came to deliver our food. Our lunch was okay and the service was average at best. Once our server appeared again, we had him run the check right away. It may have been our fault that we were in a hurry, but if I have somewhere that I need to be, I may seek out an establishment that has more of a sense of urgency in serving their clients. read more

Service is slow and disjointed- there are servers and runners, and poor communication, ie appetizers will arrive before beers, the server was surprised when we hadn't received something yet, etc. Too many people involved, and blame is just passed down the line. Most dishes I've tried have been good, and the truffle fries are addicting. The menu is so gigantic though, which is a turn off to me. Beers are SO overpriced. A good $1-2/pt more than most places around. And I'm a believer that high abv beers should not be served in larger than 12oz portions. My mom, sister, and I decided to give this place a try, and I have to say that I'm disappointed about this restaurant. When we first arrived, the hostess was polite and quickly seated us at a booth. Our waiter was friendly, helping us make decisions on what we should order since it was our first time. His service was quick and efficient. He came around often to check on us. We ended up ordering the Lobster, Crab, and Artichoke Dip, 3 Street Tacos: Grilled Korean Beef Short Rib, Gilled Korean Pork Belly, and Baja Fish with rice and beans, and Lobster Garlic Noodles. The presentation was nice and appealing. The appetizer was perfect, however, the entrees were really salty. It was so overwhelming, we couldn't finish our food. This restaurant is in a very nice location, with shopping and other restaurants near by! I was greeted by friendly staff when I walked in, I love when the staff are friendly and nice. I ordered the Turkey Pot Pie, which was so delicious! The puff pastry was so crispy and the turkey pot pie was so piping hot and yummy! We had a big party if people, but the servers were very nice! This is one of the few places where I have not been stuck on the same menu item. There are so many appealing dishes on the menu, that after dining here at least five times, I have not ordered the same thing twice yet. Well, except the truffle fries. I *always* get those! Nicely crisp shoestring fries cooked in truffle oil and topped with shredded parmesan and herbs. These fries are so good! On this last visit I complimented the truffle fries with the Blue Crab Cakes which were served with fresh mango & papaya, passion fruit beurre blanc, and tomato oil. The crab was finely shredded and had a soft consistency. They were tasty. I also had the Chicken Nachos (beans, cheese, red & green sauce, tomato, cilantro, onions, guacamole, sour cream). Be careful with this "appetizer." The platter was 18" across and it is meant to serve six people. For real! Tender chicken and very tasty. In the past I've had the Grilled Chicken and Avocado sandwich which I would also recommend, and the Penne with Chicken which was my least favorite as it seemed a little bland. The Yard House is located at North Hills, so it can be crazy busy on the weekends. Reservations are available for parties of eight or more. When I went in here for the first time this weekend, I was shocked I had never given this place a try before. The place is huge so we did not have to wait at all. It is a great place to watch a game, as every seat in the house has a great view of at least two TVs. The menu is huge, but I love that because there is so much to pick from. Their cocktail list was great as well. We got chicken fingers and fries and a side of sweet potato fries. I also got the Black Orchid cocktail. It was very good. I was in Raleigh for a Jewelry Party I was hosting and this was a recommendation from my cousins. I really love the design of this place. They have a very large bar that sits in the center of the restaurant which can accommodate a lot of people waiting to be seated. I ordered the Mac N Cheese with chicken, wild mushrooms, truffle oil and a couple of cheeses. It as very tasty. I also got the guacamole which was delicious as well. This receptionist then goes to get the manager, Freddie, who seemed really insincere. He also stated that a party is only 8 but could not explain why the first receptionist agreed to this party. Rather than apologizing for the confusion on their part, he just said "I'll sit y'all at different tables and they won't be close together and possibly not at the same time". If you are in Midtown you must go to the Yard House and ask to have Wilson (we don't know his last name) wait on you. He was our waiter last evening and he was one of the best we have ever had! Wilson was extremely warm, friendly, funny, engaging, and most importantly, genuine in his demeanor! Oh, and I almost forgot to mention how outstanding his service was! Wilson is only 22 years old, but could navigate his way around any conversation with poise, humor, and charm! We took some clients there last night and was highly disappointed when everyone at the table got their meal except one. She had to wait 20-some minutes to receive her food. Granted they brought soup for her, you could tell she wasn't thrilled. The rest of us felt extremely bad for eating in front of her... it was awkward for all of us. That was why we came in - an hour wait an Cowfish and could sit down right away here. There is a lot to choose from on this menu. Huge drink list and beer menu. Really fun during football season. We started with the calamari, hot, crispy and tender as calamari should be. I would have preferred a remoulade instead of the jalapeño tartar it came with. I opted for 2 tacos (carne taco and fish taco) and my grandmother got the pork tenderloin. The tacos were just ok. I like spicy, but these were unnecessarily spicy. It took away from the flavor. If you come here maybe stick to what they probably do really well - bar food, burgers, snacks. The pork, however, was wonderful (and a contradiction to my previous statement obviously). It was sweet and tender. Served with broccolini and mashed sweet potatoes. A really great hearty meal that wasn't terribly unhealthy. I would come back for a beer and a burger for sure. With such an extensive drink menu (as large as most food menus at other places) I had to try one of the many beers. I ordered a shorty of hefeweizen. It was smooth and went well with the entree I ordered. Everything I ate was fantastic! The Mac + Cheese squared was amazing. Mac and cheese with chicken, bacon, and mushrooms. It was seasoned well. I also tried the calamari and the truffle fries. Holy Moly those fries were epic! After dinner I had to try one of their deserts. I also wanted to try another beer but I didn't want the beer to overwhelm the food. I asked our server what she would suggest. She brought three samples for me to try a peach, a chocolate stout, and a blush. I'm not much for stout. The peach beer was lovely but I decided to go with a shorty of the blush. It was a sweet beer with qualities similar to a blush wine. It paired very nicely with the lemon and raspberry soufflé. The soufflé was wonderful. All the food items were well balanced and all the elements complimented one another. It is a little pricey but totally worth it. The only complaint I had was that it was very loud.
