We had a great experience working with Kenny, James, and the team when redoing both our front and back yards. Kenny was open to our plans and helped with areas we weren't sure how to design. The quote came back quickly and Kenny was open to negotiations. The team worked with our schedule throughout the process. They were also open to us tweaking things as we thought of them. Ken and his Lawn Pro Crew did a good job and completed all the work very professionally and in a timely manner. There were two areas I wanted improved: The front yard, with stone and a minimum of plants installed. The installation of stone on the entire front yard required the removal of the existing sod and plantings in two areas. The area between the walkway and the sidewalk; and the removal of aged plants in an area between the walkway and the house. After the old sod and plantings were removed, the areas were treated with preemergence weed killer. and two layers of ground cover were installed. Then several different types of rocks of various colors and sizes including cobbles were utilized to build a pattern Ken had sketched for me. To set off the new stone several boulders were placed in strategic locations in the stone field. The backyard adds new sprinkler system, sod, and upgrade of two boarders, After removing the old sod, a new sprinkler system was installed, and new sod placed. The existing concrete border between the sod and the wood fence would remain. The center section of this installation would have a rock field of a few feet between the edge of the patio and the existing boarder added. Another boarder was developed using bender board between the sod and the outer wall of the art shed. Lawn Pro also installed a short section, of a six-foot Redwood Dog Ear Fence. Lawn Pro repaired the existing irrigation valves and cleaned up the valve area. They also installed a hose bib on the outer west facing wall of my garage to provide the front area and drive with access to water. The work area was clean before they left each day. My experiences with this landscaping company has been mixed but mostly on the negative side. Communication and attention to detail seems to be the largest area of opportunity. We contracted Yard Pros to renovate our backyard towards the end of last year and it was a big budget project. The work started at the beginning of 2021 and took 5 months to complete with multiple delays due to the owner Ken's personal reasons such as going camping on multiple weeks. We would be much more understanding of this if he was able to follow through on his commitments. Aesthetically, the yard turned out beautifully and we have received positive reception overall from friends and family. You have lots of control over the design choices and have final say. There are some areas of improvement. First we will start with workmanship. During the project phase, we noticed that the block wall was not straight or had large gaps and had to point it out multiple times until the issue was fixed. When the fire pit was installed upon arrival, we noticed that there was a white texture called Efflorescence caused by excess water. We felt like we received a defective product and he should have inspected it and rejected it at the yard. To the owners defense, he tried his best to remove it after we pointed it out. For our water feature, the catch basin was installed flush against the block wall instead of underneath. If there is any wind or not enough water in the basin, the water feature will stop working until you refill it. When Googling other water features, it seems the basin is larger and installed under the block wall to account for spillage. The pathway lights that were installed are leaning and not straight. For the concrete, there are some areas that cracked 3 months into the install. Next we will discuss communication. The job started out with strong communication and the crew showing up on promised dates and times to start the build. There was strong momentum at the beginning of the project but as time went on, we started to lose momentum and the project became much sloppier. For example, we would come up with a list of things that needed to happen during the design phase or if we noticed there was an issue. If there was a list of 10 things that needed to be done, Ken would only follow through on a little over half of those things. It was a constant battle to remind him of what he needed to work on. Isn't it his job as a professional to take notes and follow through? Once he receives full payment for the job, good luck on getting anything done. We are still waiting on him to follow through on fixing cracks in our concrete. The entire experience has been awful in terms of communication and follow through. It's funny because when you are working with him he tells you that you have him for life but doesn't follow through on his promises. I would have expected more for how much we paid. It's a shame because our next big project is to renovate our front yard and we would have been happy to choose them again if the experience was better. Save yourself a headache and choose a different contractor for your landscaping needs. read more

Not a good experience with Yard Pros! After agreeing on a price, the project (removing half of front yard and extending driveway) was to begin on a Tuesday. I was told this would be a 2 day project, which "should" have finished on a Wednesday. As Yard Pros arrived on Wednesday, the dirt was somewhat saturated and the owner felt it best to wait one more day to allow the dirt to dry (which made sense, no big deal). Thursday, I get a call from the owner telling me he had an "emergency" concrete job he had to work on that day, and because he would not be able to get to my house until 1:30, that would be too late to pour the concrete and he would come back the next day, Friday. Frustrating, but ok (we are now looking at two days passed the agreed upon finish date). Friday comes, and the owner and his crew are nowhere to be found. Throughout the day, I called both the owner's cell phone and office phone at least four to six times each. I sent multiple text messages and emails to the owner throughout the day, NO RESPONSE. Finally, about 6:00pm, i get a email back from the owner telling me he did not know why his "crew" never showed up and he would look into the matter. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL TO NOT ONLY NO-SHOW, BUT TO NOT RETURN ANY OF MY CALLS??? The owner later told me he was out of town on a camping trip. Again not cool. After a weekend of more failure to respond to my calls, texts, emails, I told the owner if the work was not finished by Monday, I had a backup concrete crew ready and he should not even bother coming back (luckily, I did not pay him up front). After hearing I had another guy on standby, the owner was real quick to respond to my emails and phone calls. He told me he had a concrete truck scheduled for my house on tuesday morning (1 week after starting my project). I also later found out that a house three doors down from me was also using him for a project, and the concrete was also for their house (I strongly suspect he put my house off so that he could do both houses the same day). After finishing my concrete, his crew left half of their tools in my driveway while they worked on the other house down the street. After finishing that job, they cordoned it off with caution tape, then came and picked up their mess from my house, without putting up any caution tape on my new driveway (leaving it wide open to foot traffic, pets, etc.). I had to call the owner back to come put tape up. When all was said and done, the concrete turned out fine, which is a shame because had he stayed on contact with me from the start and given me an accurate timeline of when my project would be done, I would have no problem giving him more stars. There are way too many contractors who start jobs then leave without ever finishing them, which is exactly what I thought was happening with my project (i honestly never figured i would see him again). If you read all of Yard Pros' reviews, lack of communication is a constant problem. I will not work with Yard Pros again and strongly urge anyone to consider other options. read more

I hired Yard Pros to landscape my back yard in December 2014. The did the work very quickly and efficiently, being very neat in the process. My disappointment with them is that after the owner gets your check and cashes it, you won't hear from them again. I have been having issues with my sprinkler system and since Yard Pros put in the system in the back yard, tying it in with the front yard, I needed to make sure that there wasn't something that needed to be corrected on their part, but for the life of me I can't even get a return phone call. The owner also promised to return to re-pot a huge palm for me but that never happened. The tree was in distress and I had to do it myself, a two person job. Perhaps it is because I didn't sign up with a service contract with them to take care of the lawns, preferring to do it myself and that is why they can't be bothered with me any longer. But after spending $5K for a few days work, I think the least they could do is return my multiple phone calls. Buyer beware. There are a zillion landscaping companies in the central valley and Manteca so there isn't any reason to put up with their terrible customer service. read more
