The drinks are mid...the bartender didn't know how to make a French 75 and instead of just saying that, she attempted to make one which was an epic fail. The food was mid and it doesn't make sense. Like why is fried chicken, Mediterranean salmon, and pasta on a menu with biscuits and crispy Brussels sprouts? It just doesn't make sense! Plus, the food was just blah. Some hints were that the place was 1/2 full on a beautiful warm Saturday evening and it was super easy to get a 6:00 reservation. We should have known better. The tab for four was $380, and they put the tip right on the tab, which is rude. We started with the charcuterie platter ($42) . Really uninspired and parts of it downright greasy and a bit gross. I had the shrimp and grits. I've had this dish all over the south..they need to do more research because this ranks dead last of all the shrimp and grits meals I've had. Chicken and waffles looked ok, but again, pretty pricey for my friend not to gush over it, and she didn't. Another entree was the short ribs which was actually quite good. The food was decent, and our server was fantastic. Very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. My problem is with the hostess. She let us know before she sat us that they had 'overbooked' and needed us out by 1:30. 90 minutes after we arrived. I have eaten at plenty of restaurants in Chicago, even at bottomless mimosa restaurants they let us know there is 2 hr limit, but don't make you leave the table. This definitely dampened my mood as she didn't seem to tell other people this same thing. The menu is pretty extensive and we had questions. We ate, and were finishing our final drinks. The server just brought our cc's back and the hostess comes over and tells us she needs the table. There were literally 5 tables open in our section and an entire upstairs. There was a table of 4 next to us and not one time did anyone say anything to them. I'm not sure if our table was magical and someone reserved it, but it wasn't a good experience. I've been wanting to try this place since it's in my neighborhood and they get a decent sized crowd pretty often! Unfortunately, I made the mistake of recommending it to a friend for his birthday dinner. Upon arrival, everything was good and the service was friendly. The fried green tomatoes BLT is the BEST but the ONLY good thing on the menu. I ordered the ribs and mac n cheese (popular dish) and I was annoyed with the texture of the ribs. It was extremely over cooked and honestly, it was physically hard to bite into it. I told my waiter about it, hoping they would send a redo but after they refused, I didn't want to purchase anything else and expected my bill to be comped due to me vocally expressing my dissatisfaction with the meal! It was not good y'all. They refused to remove the transaction, leaving me to dispute the charge on my credit card. I am really not the type to complain about food/service as long as it's decent but leaving from a restaurant HUNGRY and EMPTY is ridiculous. Was really looking forward trying Yardbird. While the two small plates we had at the bar were good--cornbread and Yardbird corn--it's very pricey. Had the two small sides, 2 glasses of Malbec and a cocktail and the bill was $117. They took the liberty of adding a 20% gratuity. For two seats at the bar and not even having dinner, I find that insulting. We are neighborhood foodies and have a short list of places we regularly visit. I was walking around River North and was cold and hungry. Yardbird seemed like a cozier spot than others--kind of old school. I was somewhat shocked by the prices (I'm a little old school that way too). Even given the location--they were at least 20% higher than I would have anticipated. Still, I didn't regret my choice. Service was wonderful!! Everyone was warm and welcoming--solicitous without hovering. I got the deviled egg appetizer ($15) which was interesting and well prepared (with some trout roe on top) and a glass of wine ($14)--which was a good selection and a generous pour. I followed this with a cup of very good coffee. It was accompanied by a delicious little spice cookie--but $6??. When I settled the bill the server told me that a 20% tip had been added. I was startled and just signed the receipt. I felt a little bad because I would have given her more--she was fabulous. I also felt bad that management felt the need to do this. Are people responding to sticker shock by stiffing or undertipping servers? I was impressed that -even with a decent tip assured-everyone was so lovely. As has been noted, the music was a little loud--but since it was generally sort of old school bluesy soul it just added to the pleasing atmosphere. read more

I came here for brunch with 4 other people after the people in our group raved about one of their out-of-state locations and was very underwhelmed. It is overrated. Service was great but the food is underrated. It turns out that they cook their fried chicken in pork lard which is why it is so good. The others in our party didn't know that and luckily our waiter alerted us to that after I told him that we had a no pork restriction. They do have a gluten free option that isn't cooked in lard but it takes a very long time to cook. We didn't try it due to time constraints but I imagine it's bland like the rest of their food. Everything I tried was lacking in flavor: deviled eggs and avocado toast despite everything they put on there. Will not return. The food and service is decent but it's not good enough to get past some of these outrageous prices. A whole chicken is $76. Mind you, it's served with some watermelon cubes and hot sauce but, this is still insanely overpriced. The chicken is good but not worth the price of a ribeye in this city. Go to Parsons or Roost if you want a whole chicken that's very good and much more reasonably priced. Additionally, we had one guest waiting in the bar who paid for a single drink and learned that a 20% gratuity was added to his solo cocktail from the bar. We ate at one in Florida years ago and it was enjoyable and definitely not this expensive. I'd recommend ordering light and splitting dishes unless you're on the corporate dollar. Prices will likely prevent a long run for this establishment in this city as I can't see this surviving for the value it delivers against its prices. read more

Went to the Vegas location and was so excited that one opened in Chicago. Decor is beautiful. Waiter was friendly and attentive. It was super loud and difficult to hear each other. Started with the biscuits which were very good, but over $3 each. Had the 1/2 chicken with mashed potatoes which was meh. Husband and son had chicken and waffles with macaroni and cheese. They really like their meals. Portions are large, however, bill was over $200 for 3 chicken dinners - W/O ALCOHOL! Chicago prices are high, but this was outrageously expensive for fried chicken. We all ordered separate items on the menu so we could taste the top favorites... we ordered the following entrees: the chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits and finally the rotisserie chicken. All items were average at best. The rotisserie chicken was not as flavorful as I thought...Costco would have been better. The mash potatoes were lukewarm with no chives. The fried chicken was not as tasty as expected...we had to use hot sauce to add flavor, although it was crispy.. not impressed with the grits and shrimp...the drinks were overpriced and not the best, First time and my last time. read more

I am very disappointed with my experience I had today. I heard great things about this place so was excited to try it. Beautiful atmosphere and greeted right away. I am so taken back by the lack of service from our waiter. I never write reviews good or bad but this experience I couldn't let go. He seemed in a different world, asked us twice if we've been there before even after ordering drinks and responded with the same answer, "we are known for our sweet tea and shrimp and grits." Ok that's great, we ordered an appetizer and that came out great, still no drinks. Finally 20 minutes later we get our drinks and the soda order was wrong ( even after he repeated it to us). He also had to repeat our food order to us twice. Food final came delivered by another person. We had no silverware and he never came back to check on us between appetizer and food. The manager heard me tell my son I had no silverware so she immediately brought it over and also got us more drinks. Still no check In from waiter. Our food was lukewarm but dealt with it. There was about 5 tables that had people so no reason anything should've been backed up. He brought the bill and never took off the soda that he rang up wrong and charged for the right one (again not a big deal but come on) what really got me was the automatic 20% tip I had to pay for horrible service. Our bill for three people with three alcoholic drinks and food was $200!! Even bad service I would've tipped but to force me was insane! So in the city you are stuck with horrible service and have to deal with it. I will not come back to this place and make sure people know about it too. read more

This was my first time visiting this restaurant and my overall experience was nice. The atmosphere gave a date night romantic feel with the dim lighting and setup. Nice ambiance with 2 levels....the only bathroom is on the second floor. Our server Cara was pleasant and was able to answer all questions asked about menu items. We chose to order off the restaurant week menu for dinner. The deviled eggs and wedge salad were delicious as our starters. Our entree's were lewellyns fried chicken which included a breast, thigh, leg and wing (no sides included) and 14 oz ribeye steak frites. While the chicken was crispy it lacked seasoning/flavor they did provide some honey hot sauce for dipping. The ribeye was mainly fat and flavor wise subpar. The sides we choose as an add on were asparagus and mac and cheese. These were both average. For dessert we had key lime pie and fried Oreos. These were the best items we had in our opinion. For drinks we had blackberry bourbon lemonade (delicious), express yourself (tequila and espresso) also delicious, and passionate about tequila (more on the sour side but good). Everything had great presentation but not worth the price at all. The gratuity is already included no matter the size of the party. For the price that was paid we could have gone somewhere with better flavored food. The steak was not worth $77 and the chicken was not worth $60 AT ALL!!!! read more

No real concern with food. My issue is with our wine, we ordered a bottle of wine $70 it is also served by the glass. When the server brought it to the table he had his hand covering the cork, I could see it was not a full bottle. When I questioned him he said that it was not a full bottle. Left and came back 10 min later with a bottle that they had hilled for only a few minutes. Question is were they trying to deceive us or were they trying to get us a properly chilled wine even though they were shorting us a glass. We were seated promptly for our reservation, but waited 30 minutes for a waiter to even come to the table. We flagged someone down asking who our server was. She stated she didn't know, but was kind enough to take our drink orders. The water cups were finally filled. 15 minutes later a man came & said he would be taking care of us & took our order. Angel didn't seem to thrilled to be at work. He definitely didn't deserve the 20% gratuity that is automatically added for that alone! They weren't even busy or filled to capacity. The chicken and waffles, mac, biscuits are rated 7/10. We won't be returning, it's not as hyped as social media makes it. Just left Yardbird - as in less than hour ago - and I have to share the fantastic experience that my sister and I had! We were celebrating her birthday and I'm so happy we selected this restaurant. I've been to the location in Miami so I knew the food was good. Jennifer was our server and she was FANTASTIC! Very professional yet personable! She recommended the Fried Green Tomatoes BLT and Oh My Gosh - delicious! I am not a huge Fried Green Tomatoes girl but this was done right. The Chicken and Waffles were so delicious and the cocktails are well balanced, not watery and tasty . I knew we were going to have dessert and Jennifer said the Key Lime Pie was the best, my sister ordered this and I got to try it! Once again she was right! It was so flavorful and light! I ordered the Bourbon Bacon Chocolate Cake and it is HUGE but really good. I can't wait to get home, curl up on the sofa and finish the rest of the cake lol ! They do add an automatic service charge and this is one of very few places that I've experienced with an automatic gratuity and the service and experience was worth it! No stranger to hospitality, I know this was a team effort and thank you all! I also appreciated that Jennifer did let us know that the gratuity was added and didn't have us double tipping! I was excited to try Yardbird because I really love fried chicken, but the overall experience was nothing special. We were seated promptly for our reservation, but after that the service was terribly uneven. We waited ridiculously long times for drinks, and we had to wait for fresh plates and cutlery when dinner and dessert were served. We ordered deviled eggs and meatballs to start, and the whole fried chicken with asparagus and brussel sprouts sides. The chicken was delivered to our table before our appetizers. When we pointed that out to the runner; he apologized and took the chicken back and brought our apps. The deviled eggs were good but the meatballs were bland and rubbery. After we finished, the chicken was brought to our table and we asked if it was the same one that was mistakenly brought to us earlier and the response was "yes, but it's only been out for 5 minutes." We were surprised by the response, but proceeded with our dinner. The chicken was fine but I wish the skin was crisper; maybe it would have been if it hadn't set under a warming light for several minutes. The waffles were lukewarm and nothing special. The asparagus was average and the brussel sprouts were delicious, but the portions were ridiculously small for $16 each. When our server checked on us later, we mentioned the snafu with the timing of the fried chicken so they comped us 2 desserts (the chocolate cake and the honey cake) which were just ok. I'm glad they were comped because I would not have been happy paying lost price (more than $20 for each dessert). The interior is nice and they played good music, but it's pretty loud and hard to have conversation. It is extremely expensive for what it is, and there are much better restaurants at better price points in the city. read more

It was my first time at the establishment with a couple of friends. We came for brunch and it was good. I got the Country Cobb Protein Bowl and both of my friends got the biscuit and gravy. I was a little thrown off by the prices but the portions are huge! The bowl was very filling and I couldn't even finish it but gave it a good try. My friends seem to enjoy the biscuit and gravy but I did not try the dish. Our server was really nice! She told us about the off the book mimosas, left us be, but also attentive. Near the end, we ordered the lemon meringue pie pancakes as a dessert and let me tell you it was delish! It was the best dish between all our meals. Three big pancakes and we didn't even make a dent in it so one friend took it home. The ambiance is fine - it is pretty loud so I wouldn't come there for an intimate date but good for birthdays and brunches. Note: the bathrooms are upstairs so not conveniently accessible. read more
