The restaurant is nice. Great location, nicely decorated. Somewhat of a modern barn feel. Service was a little slow to start but picked up once our server came to the table. Our server was Bennett and he got our drink and food orders out to us super quick and checked on us regularly. Our food choices were pretty tasty. Pork belly, Pecan Habanero wings, corn and ribeye with mashed potatoes. I expected more beer offerings given a "brewhouse" The Kolsch was sold out so I went with a wheat ale and enjoyed it. We went here for a late lunch over the weekend. From the outside and even the inside, the place is beautiful and huge! The hosts were so kind and greeted us right away and had us sat. They had so much staff working that you would think that they would be super attentive. However, it felt like they did not help others outside their own station. Our server was super nice, but it felt like she could use a little more training b/c there were items she was not sure of and instead gave us incorrect answers. I would have rather had her say "let me ask" and come back with the answer. No big deal though-I get it. The food: The best item we ordered was the mushroom panino. It was very tasty. I was hoping for the mushrooms to stand out, but they were kind of hidden. Honestly, the sandwich does not need them. They became an afterthought. The fries were yummy too. They reminded me of checkers fries though. I think it is "cute" how the ketchup is served in little dishes, but it is unrealistic in the long run since it makes it difficult to share or put on top of the fries. Bottles of ketchup would be fine. The items that were good, but not super stand out were the chicken chimichurri sandwich. Large piece of grilled chicken, but the chimichurri ratio to it was small. It was still very tasty. The pork chop with polenta was also good. The one disappointment was the chef salad. If we were not starving, we would have sent it back. it was 95% lettuce with everything else diced and mixed in. The pie of the day was good. It was a blueberry piece that looked more like a cobbler, but it was yummy. I am not up this far north often, but I would give it another chance and maybe try just the beers and apps. read more

Well, so much for being hopeful for a new restaurant to rise above the food desert of Cumming. Arrived for an early Saturday dinner to find out that the several of the beers and food items were unavailable. Server offered all sorts of excuses of why the beer menu included options - so why not update and have a current beer list ? Veggie pie unavailable- huh? What does it take to make a veggie pie? Guess their frozen food provider couldn't deliver that day. Fries that are touted as house made are frozen and not house made- well, guess that they fry them in house. :( Veggie sandwich was ordered without cheese- it showed up with cheese. Asked for the dijon mustard listed on the menu - no such item- yellow mustard was offered. Tiny, tiny portions of ketchup accompanied the non-descript fries. So sad, there is such potential and this place can't keep up with their promises or demand of the area resident who are seeking some level of edible food. read more

Would be 5 stars....almost did not return after the first visit despite great food and service, here's why. I always sit at the bar for fun interactions with staff and other guests. It was about a month after opening so not expecting a flawless experience but I was immediately impressed by Lauren who is an absolute pro. She stepped in to take our order after several minutes of trying to get the attention of the guy in front of us, who never made eye contact or acknowledged our presence. After the pork belly app came (this one is not to be missed!) things behind the bar started to spiral. Same guy who ignored us began passive aggressively shouting at another bartender about a drink he needed for the servers. After indiscreetly dressing her down in front of a bar full of guests he discovered 'oops' the drink was already made and under his nose. The whole incident was super awkward and unprofessional, but I figured, he will be weeded out just by having zero respect for his coworkers and a general lack of hospitality so I left without reviewing BUT... Fast forward to a few visits later and not seeing him behind the bar I shared the awful experience with another patron who instantly knew who I was talking about so obviously, it's a pattern. What a surprise to find out the big angry bald guy is now the GM! Very disappointing that this kind of behavior is rewarded. I only hope that ownership handles it sooner than later. Impressed with my first stop in at YAVA. The interior is immaculate. Large and spacious, one half serves as the brewery side and the other half is the restaurant. They run on a limited menu and close down the kitchen in between brunch and dinner service. Went for brunch and got the steak and eggs. Everyone in my party of 4 enjoyed their dishes. We spent around $120 with tip and also got a couple of appetizers. Nice addition to the area. My only knock would be we went on Fathers Day and there was a Fathers Day prime rib special that wasn't on the menu. Our server failed to mention this and I missed out. They currently only offer four beers and the one I was interested in, the American IPA, they were out of. My wife ordered a glass of wine and they were out of that as well. Not a good start to our first visit. They have a limited but satisfactory food menu, offering a varied mix of items. I had the smoked turkey sandwich and my wife had the black and blue burger. My sandwich was good with a nice amount of meat on it. sourdough bread, which was grilled, was overly greasy. My wife thought her burger was just OK, and didn't realize that it came on Texas toast (a burger in Texas toast?). That was her miss because it is clearly defined on the menu yet she felt that it totally subtracted from the enjoyment of the burger (who wants their burger served on Texas toast?). The toast also was grilled and VERY greasy. We came here for dinner on a Tuesday night and occupancy was only about 15% when we arrived, but became fairly busy by the time we left. TIP: we were seated at one of two tables you want to avoid. These tables ajoin a shelf that is used as a servers station (loose silverware and plates). This place is really cool. We had a great experience with Kyla as our server. She was really attentive and kind to my little one. It was very comfortable sitting outside in the evening, Great atmosphere for children, loved the salmon. Kids portion was generous, so was mine with the beet salad. Prices are reasonable. We have watching this restaurant being built and looked forward to experiencing it. Finally able to with many other friends. Made reservations through Open Table for 8 people. Wished I could have made it for more, but over 8 puts one in a whole new category of having to meet a certain amount depending upon the restaurants total for that particular day of the week. To complicated and didn't want to fuss with it. Anyways, we arrived and they seated us immediately. Had two great servers, Cheyenne and Rosie who took great care of us. Unfortunately the area where we were seated had major sun coming into the eyes of friends seated on the wrong side of the table. Eventually the sun set below this windows. Although they were willing to relocate us, but our other options were great. But we appreciated their efforts. The restaurant is super large, open and airy even with outdoor seating. They have a very large bar area which during certain days and hours has live music. Also outside the bar is more outdoor seating complete with corn hole. Of course I tried one of their signature drinks along with my friend called The Little Bird. Oh my heavens how yummy it was. My friend whose fav alcohol is Vodka and she thoroughly enjoyed it. All our friends dinner including mine were delicious with nice size portions. They have their brewery which I believe I remember being told that they make 5 different beers, Yava meaning Barley. There is plenty of parking and quite conveniently located off Marketplace. Also a yummy coffee drive thru on the other side of street, walking distance. Last but definitely not least, my husband and I shared the Campfire Sundae which is decadent and packed with yummy chocolate flavor. Small chocolate covered pretzels, nice caramel drizzle, and that amazing melted marshmallow on top which was melted to perfection!! All accompanied by vanilla gelato. DELISH and well worth every calorie!! Definitely a must on our next visit. read more

First off, beautiful venue. Nice outdoor space and plenty of space inside with great decor. I came with a group of girlfriends and were seated promptly. Our server was excellent and provided prompt service. The drinks were great but I felt were pretty small in size. I ordered little bird and it kept spilling because the glass was so small. My friends ordered the margarita and it was really small. We ordered few appetizers and I thought they were ok. The calamari lacked flavor. Everyone's dishes were good and nice portion size. My chicken was delicious and the mashed potatoes were delicious. Looking forward to visiting and hope they change their menu seasonally. read more

Went here for my birthday on a Saturday. It was super busy but we had reservations and got seated immediately. The service was wonderful! The food was all so good and had no complaints! The only thing with the drinks is they had some listed that they said they no longer serve which should be taken off the menu. The drinks we did order though were great! The restaurant itself was super clean and I love the big tree in the middle. It was raining so we didn't get to go outside but definitely will be back to enjoy drinks out there! read more

Amazing! What a fantastic addition to the area. We came on the first Sunday they were opened on their 5th day of service. We usually give new business about a month to settle in but we've been so excited about this place we dive right in. Came at 5:30pm on a Sunday and figured we would be able to get in pretty easily. There was already a 35 minute wait that ended up being about 50 minutes but the hostess kept us informed of the delay. Every one was friendly and attentive. What a beautiful space, large yet warm and inviting. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Deviled eggs were divine, the burger was incredible and the salmon was perfect. The beer was good as well. Can't wait to come back and try some more menu items. read more

Okay, I've been here a few times now and wanted to update my review to reflect the entirety of my experiences. The one constant is the friendly and knowledgeable wait staff, especially Hayden. Unfortunately the consistency ends there. I've never disliked my meal here but the quality varies widely with sometimes being amazing and other times okay but not great. I also hate how their rules change from night to night. Sometimes when I order Rustic Chicken, I'm allowed to substitute sweet potato fries for the seasonal veggies (I hate broccoli) and other times I'm not. I asked why and was told "the chef tonight doesn't believe any other side pairs well with the rustic chicken ". Also, the first time I ordered it, it came with gravy on it and a tiny container of extra gravy. The second time it didn't come with extra gravy and I was charged extra when I asked for it. The other negative is how incredibly slow the kitchen is on the weekends, even with the dessert serving, very very slow. As far as ambience goes, the architecture and decorations are nice but with the open layout, high ceilings and hard floors, it gets very loud. Long story short, this place has potential but in my opinion, still working out some kinks. I'd give them a few more months to resolve these issues before giving them a try read more

The night we were there the restaurant was busy and full of young and senior customers. The atmosphere was alive with chatter and the smell of incredible food. I ordered the pork chop smothered and onion gravy and a top a pile of incredible grits. Yes grits! They were creamy , buttery and the taste was like my mother used to make. A new establishment has opened its doors under the hopeful banner of Yava Kitchen and Brewhouse. The room itself speaks the modern dialect of contemporary American dining -- warm wood, careful lighting, the quiet confidence of a place that wishes to be taken seriously. One senses ambition in the air. The kitchen, however, has not yet decided whether it deserves that seriousness. Consider the crawfish mac and cheese. A dish whose very name promises indulgence arrives curiously hollow. The crawfish whisper rather than speak, and the cheese -- the supposed backbone of the composition -- behaves like a timid guest who refuses to enter the room. It is mac and cheese stripped of conviction. The buffalo chicken dip fares little better. A shareable appetizer in theory, though its portion suggests the chef shares reluctantly. The buffalo element, that vinegar-bright flame that should define the dish, has been reduced to a faint memory buried beneath plain cheddar and chicken. The grilled cheese with tomato bisque is competent but uninspired. The sandwich lacks the molten excess one expects; the garlic appears to have considered attending but ultimately stayed home. The bisque, at least, shows promise -- creamy, rich, and comfortingly warm -- though one oddly finds oneself wishing for a pepper mill, as if the final note of the melody has been withheld. Then comes the shrimp ceviche, which arrives not as a finished dish but as a small act of participation. Large chips, whole shrimp, slivers of onion, and a smear of avocado purée await the diner like components on a workbench. The flavors themselves are present and respectable. But one cannot escape the curious sensation that the kitchen has invited the guest to complete its homework. There are brighter moments. The Jalisco-style street corn carries welcome confidence. The bruschetta is balanced, properly portioned, and mercifully restrained. Here, briefly, the kitchen remembers flavor. Service presents its own small absurdity: water glasses no larger than thimbles, requiring constant refilling rather than the simple dignity of a bottle left at the table. This is not a failed restaurant. It is something more ambiguous -- a place still searching for its voice. The ambition is visible. The execution is not yet disciplined enough to justify frequent pilgrimage. Perhaps time will grant the kitchen the courage to season boldly, portion generously, and finish what it begins. For now, one might return -- but only after the dust of opening enthusiasm has settled and the cooks have found their footing. Two and a half stars. Not a dismissal. Well I wanted to try a new place and when we arrived it's was a very nice facility however when we tried to get seated in a nearly empty restaurant we were told it would take 5 minutes to seat us , when did seating two people become like a mission to Mars , it's not hard all the tables are empty. We left, if they can't figure out seating then the service must be really lacking , steer clear until they can figure out how to run a restaurant. read more

I went to Yava twice with a larger group. The food is really good - deviled eggs, pretzels, and all the other appetizers. No complaints. Main dishes are amazing (salmon especially) . The interior is stunning and well designed. This is a new establishment so staff is still not up to the speed but they are improving. Well drinks are a bit weak :( read more

We had dinner here tonight and left very disappointed. The service was very poor. We had a long wait for our food and never got our appetizer. We had to flag our waiter to get water refills. He never asked us if we wanted another beer or cocktail, or if our food was ok, or anything at all. He kept walking by and looking at us but never actually did anything. We had to flag him down for everything. It was honestly one of the worst service experiences I can remember. The food was meh. It felt expensive for what we got. Our biggest complaint was the crawfish Mac and cheese, which was terribly understated and bland. My shrimp and grits was fine, but not good enough that I want to return. The beer selection is very limited, which surprised us. Atmosphere is nice; it's very open and not too loud. We were looking forward to trying Yava, but unfortunately we won't be back. read more

Heard about this place from a friend. We walked in and we got sat right in front of the door/host stand where all the staff was convening (loud casual chatter) in an empty restaurant. The food was probably some of the worst tasting food we have ever had not to mention slow service on a slow afternoon. I was told to expect squash and potatoes, but received broccolini in it. The portion was great and the chicken was cooked perfectly, but it was very salty. Lessen the salt and it'll be a good dish. If you know me, you know I consider myself a bit of a burger connoisseur. I order a burger almost everywhere I go, and I can confidently say that Yava has one of the best burgers I've ever had. Easily top tier. First of all, our server, Cheyenne, was incredible. She was so kind and immediately let us know there would be a bit of a wait since they've only been open a few days and were completely packed, which makes total sense. I appreciated that so much. She checked in consistently, kept such a positive attitude, and truly made the whole experience even better. Seriously, Cheyenne deserves her flowers. Now for the burger. It was cooked to a perfect medium, not undercooked and not overcooked, literally perfection. The cheese was melted just right, the special sauce was amazing, and the pickles were such a standout. They lean more cucumber forward than your typical overpowering pickle, which complemented the burger instead of stealing the spotlight. Everything worked together exactly the way it should. The fries were incredible. I love a fry that isn't too thick and isn't overly crispy, just the right balance, and they nailed it. Pro tip, ask for the jalapeño ranch on the side with the aïoli. That combo is unreal. I added both to my burger halfway through, even though it absolutely didn't need it, and somehow it elevated it even more. This is truly an order it as is kind of place. The menu is thoughtfully crafted, you don't need substitutions unless it's for dietary reasons. Everything is designed intentionally, and you can taste that. Huge grace to the kitchen and staff because opening week is no joke, but they are absolutely crushing it. And again, Cheyenne made the experience so welcoming and smooth despite the rush. First time visiting and was not disappointed. Our way to Cheyenne was very attentive and engaged. I had the tomato vest and grilled cheese and it was delicious. My wife had the shaved prime rib It was also excellent. I enjoyed the American IPA. My wife loved the little bird drink but we were both disappointed at the size of the glass. After watching with anticipation and excitement the development of a true dining destination and brewery in Cumming, we stopped in during the opening first week to see if reservations were being taken for that evening. I was told "yes" by the ladies at the front desk and gave them the specifics. An hour or so later, we received a text confirming our reservation for 6:30. Upon arrival for our reservation, I was informed that they are not honoring reservations at this time and there was an hour wait. No consideration was offered for the miscommunication. Very disappointed, we left. I understand there are going to be some hiccups in opening a restaurant but I felt with some of Atlanta's veteran restaurant operators this would be minimal. We will try again and hopefully operational issues will have been resolved. read more

The atmosphere was great and the wait staff was top notch. The beers were very good. The pretzel bites were alright but possibly from frozen. The sauces were not good and the beer cheese was disappointing. The burgers were tasty but the black and bleu burger was not very bleu cheesy. The sweet potato fries were crisp and hot but the regular fries were not good at all. We will be back to try other menu items. Back for the beer for sure. The service was amazing. read more

They have by far the BEST bun and burger I have EVER had!!! Burger is a short rib blend making it absolute perfection!
