My friends and I bought our tickets for $25 on Groupon and then went to the Paint Nite website to register for our evening of painting. You can choose by location, artist, painting, or date. We did a Paint Nite at El Rodeo in Edgewood. We were about 20 minutes early and the four of us were able to get a row of seats together. We started a few minutes after six. The session began with the instructor making us say a funny Paint Nite oath about how we would not complain that our paintings were horrible. Everyone was given an apron, white canvas, three different size paint brushes and a plate with white, black, red, blue and yellow globs of paint. Following the directions from our instructor, everyone in the class mixed colors and painted a beautiful beach scene. I do not consider myself talented in the art department, but my painting turned out beautifully. With the instructor and assistant, our group had a great time at Paint Nite. We enjoyed ourselves and the time we spent together making our masterpieces. For my group, it was everyone's first time, but we were all very excited and would like to plan another night out doing the same with more of our friends. I think this is a great idea for friends, couples (even though the majority of the class was women) and a night out. You do not have to drink, but it can make the paintings look better for some people! Tips: Arrive early for a good selection of seats. Wear clothes that you don't mind getting a little paint on (it might not happen, but it can and did to me!) but still look nice because they will be taking pictures to put on their Facebook page. I went to the Paint Nite at Hightopps last month. What a fun night! I'd never attended but had seen pics of friends going. It was a great way to spend some time with an out of town friend. The instructor was great! Every step was explained and questions answered. Clearly none of us are painters but it was almost as simple as paint by numbers but with us able to add our own flair. (We did an easy picture, btw.) You did feel like you were creating a piece of art. I'm actually not ashamed to hang mine in my house. Hightopps should've had more than one server for the room. The poor girl was run ragged and it took a while for us to get our credit cards back. I had so much fun that my sister and I are taking my mom to one for her birthday. A girls night out. I think this would be a great activity for just about any event. Birthday, date night, girls night. Guys would have fun too. Tips: Get their a little early to get seats together, if you have a group. Wear things you don't mind getting dirty. I, somehow, managed to get paint on my shirt. Black on white. Yep, after two washes I had to dump that shirt. Go to groupon/living social for coupons or ask anyone who has attended previous events for their discount code. There is no reason to pay $45. read more

I have done quite a few paint nites but didn't realize they had a yelp listing until after this last one. Each time I've gone the staff has been stellar and the hosting bar has been more than accommodating. I love how playful the staff are and how willing they are to assist if you want a different color or shape than the one they are doing. Ive only done pictures in the "easy" category so they all have been pretty simple to follow along and recreate. Ive been to these events with friends as well as alone and have enjoyed it both times. With friends of course its fun to drink and create but alone I really got to work on my creation I also felt like the staff were extra nice to me when i went alone.. Over all I think its a great alternative to the traditional date night or night out with friends and I would recommend it! I will actually be back soon myself since i purchased multiple groupon deals :) read more

A fun easy way chill and do something creative with or without wine. All you do is show up. They give you the easel, the paint, the apron and you spend the next couple hours being directed through a painting with a room full of other people. Typically, there are some break times while paint dries so you have a change to get up, go to the bathroom, enjoy an appetizer and a drink. I did Paint Nite for the first time recently and I really enjoyed it. You can always get a discount through Groupon or Living Social. You just pick the date and painting you want and sign up. If you have a large party, make sure to get there on the earlier side so you can sit together. The only negative is that depending on the restaurant or bar you're in, it's super hard to hear the instructor. They will often walk around and show you the techniques, but it's a pain if you can't hear too well. They let you be as creative as you want and you don't even need to paint the painting everyone else is doing. It's a great experience and it's even better that you get to leave with your painting. Went to Paint Nite in Owings Mills tonight. It was fun, and definitely worth the Groupon. The majority of attendees are women, seems like a good idea for a girls night out. May also be fun for a date: time to talk and have fun. My only complaints include inability to see the instructor/see instruction and a very hot room (we were at The Green Turtle in Owings Mills, so not sure what that was about, but they clearly did not have the a/c on in the room we were in...it was ridiculously hot in there). I would attend again, but in an air conditioned venue. Plus I'd arrive earlier as they indicated so I can get better seat instead of being cramped in the middle and against a wall. read more

Attended an event at The Harp on Belair Rd. Instructor was very friendly and helpful. I was very happy with how my painting turned out. Only problem was the venue was over crowded. Several times painters accidentally painted on their neighbor's canvas because they were so close together the edges were touching. We didn't even have room to put our drinks without worrying about spilling them while we painted. I will participate again but will try another venue. read more

Didn't know what to expect - bought the tickets via groupon as a christmas gift and tagged along. While I didn't drink, I did indulge in some finger foods while I painted away. Going in, I was nervous and ready to get the day over with (it was gloomy outside) but as we began I quickly remembered how much i LOVED coloring as a kid and I was all in from there. Came here with a couple of co-workers and had such a good time. The venue was at the Merritt Athletic Club in White Marsh-kinda awkward. That's my only complaint because it was set up right by people who were working out. Anna the artist was really sweet and took great pictures for us. She was patient and moved along at a perfect pace. Drinks were a little on the pricy side at $8 per drink- I had three and felt like Picasso! Lol. Drinks were good too. They sold food here but I didn't eat. I plan on doing another paint night because I really enjoyed it. Don't really do the club scene, but I do like to have a drink now and then- so this was perfect! We bought out tix through Groupon and received a bit of a discount off their regular price. If you're looking for a great alternative to "clubbing", I highly recommend this. Instructor was energetic and everyone enjoyed themselves. I was a little disappointed that the actual painting that we did varied somewhat from what we signed up for. I remember thinking it looked "off" when we were being instructed and thinking how much more I thought I liked the painting when we signed up. In looking back, I see where the instructor varied it enough so the end product wasn't exactly what I was hoping it would be. I was also taken aback when the instructor put out a tip jar and did the whole starving artist thing. I've been to several of these paint and drink type events through 3 different companies and this was the first time I was expected to tip. It left a bad taste in my mouth. I will definitely do another paint night just not with this company. read more

Paint Nite at Mother's Grille on Sunday, June14. Bought this on Groupon as a birthday gift for myself.Went with a friend. Groupon coupon was easy to use. Overall, I like the entire experience. Mother's itself, needs to improve upon the "upstairs bar". You order drinks and they still have to go downstairs to make the drinks and your food, then bring them back upstairs. Was kind of unorganized and the employees sometimes bumped into each other or didn't quite know who had ordered what when they returned back upstairs. My instructor was nice, I think her name was Allyson. She had an assistant that made sure we were stocked with supplies the whole time. Pretty fun, for my first experience, and I felt like and artist( in my french voice) after. All I needed was a beret. Will definitely do this again. read more
