I was genuinely excited to get away and enjoy a round of golf here…read more Unfortunately, this course ended up being a textbook example of how a few bad employees can completely ruin what should be a great experience. The golf shop staff were shockingly unprofessional. Rude, dismissive, and openly negative from the moment I walked in. Golf is supposed to be welcoming even municipal courses understand that but these two employees acted as though their goal was to sour the day of anyone unfortunate enough to interact with them. Every single time I have walked in these two bearded guys in there sit there and do nothing all day and are jerks to every person walking in. Even kids excited to play golf. Their demeanor was hostile for no reason, and the strong smell of alcohol only added to the discomfort. No guest should ever feel unwelcome at a public course they're paying to enjoy. The facilities were equally disappointing. The bathroom was beyond unacceptable dirty, neglected, and clearly not maintained with any regularity. It honestly looked like it hadn't been properly cleaned in years. This alone reflects a serious lack of pride and oversight. Even something as simple as parking was ignored. Leaves and debris everywhere. A quick blow-through would take minutes, yet the neglect is obvious. These are basic standards, not luxuries. Mounds and mounds. What makes this especially frustrating is that the course itself has real potential. The layout and location could make this a fantastic municipal golf destination. But that potential is completely undermined by careless maintenance and, more importantly, staff who seem to actively dislike the people keeping the course in business. This review isn't written out of spite it's written out of disappointment. With the right leadership, accountability, and staff who understand basic professionalism, this place could be great. Until then, be prepared for an experience that feels less like a relaxing round of golf and more like an unnecessary headache. Charleston deserves better from its public courses.

The layout is the same except the reno toughened it up considerably. More deep bunkers in the fairways and guarding many holes. More elevated greens with " features". Hard to hold the greens Which were fast and in good condition. New electric carts with GPS. this course is no push-over, but overall a good experience. A attitude was give from Ron automatically and was upset. As I told him he needs to chill out calmly. A Friend that was playing with was doing the same with the extra due to have 2 little one with his wife. Attitude was given by Ron again due to the extra cart. When leave was addressed to play 4 ahead and 2 behind to keep pace of play after starting we swapped and I would hit the the wife would hit the next shot and same for the other couple to keep pace. Kept seeing Ron roaming the coarse stalking us watching. After 3rd time of seeing him he came and said I have rain checks for you and you need to leave after this hole and blamed it on pace of play as we pointed to the players on the tee box waiting for the people in front of them I laughed and said we're keeping up look then he turned it around and said was now the kids are running around but our kids never left the carts beside 1 time on cart path to get a sandwich From the cart 3 yards away. After explaining to him that this isn't right and your not being truthful he didn't like that and told me to leave as my buddy talks to him and is de-escalating the situation that him having a attitude with all of us since arrival. I said boo-hoo about leaving after a minute or two of him talking to my friend finally as his wife was leaving with their kids he decided to leave and not come around anymore. I understand if we did not keep up with pace of play, had obnoxious kids, Kids running around on the green or even on the course. This would be justifiable to tell someone leave. Service at the clubhouse and bag drop was excellent and friendly. I do wish that the carts had GPS, but other than that, they ran smoothly. Cart paths could use a little bit of work, but being an ocean course, I can understand why it's not a priority. Tidal flooding, rain, wind, salt air, etc can really do some damage to a course. I donated a few balls to the water hazards. Not a lot of woods to lose balls in, so that was good. Overall a really great day of golf with my dad.

Having said that, the one thing that is super convenient about this place is that it is close to everything. If you are staying downtown it's only a 10 minute drive away and really only the course that's as close to downtown (aside from the muni). It's also a relatively open course and as someone that isn't the best golfer I do appreciate. Fees will vary but I'd only really play the course if it's $80-$90. During peak times you will see $130-$150 and would not recommend going at that rate

There were 2 greens completely under construction, not that they could have been much worse than the other 16... Pace of play was terrible as well, but not even worth mentioning compared to the course itself. Could not be more emphatic that you should not play here.
