We arrived at 9am on a Saturday which is when they allegedly open according to their website…read more(Google says 8am) and there were already tons of people seated and even a table that diners had finished eating at so there is definitely something inaccurate with their published hours. Thankfully we didn't have to wait for a table for 3 (the folks in front of us in line most have had a bigger table and were given a wait time). I really enjoyed the vibe here as well as the food. I tried the waffle Benedict and thought it was great. Definitely worth a visit for breakfast but their weekend hours should be updated if they open they open before 9am...

This joint has been on my list of places to try for a while now. Was it worth the 53 minute wait on…read morea Saturday morning? Yes, yes it was. There was a friendly gal at the door taking names and numbers. I could hardly believe the wait time but decided to put down my name and do a little window shopping during the wait. We were eventually called and texted to let us know our table was ready. Our table was in the very back corner, next to a group of girls loudly talking about their drunken escapades the night before. It was entertaining to say the least. Our server was super friendly and accommodating to dietary restrictions/modifications. I ordered a Turkish Benedict on gluten free toast.... So. Good. Amazing flavors. My daughter got the croissant avocado toast which she loved. I also got a pistachio latte and was pleasantly surprised to see the used pistachio butter and not a syrup. It was lovely. I had to keep my child from drinking it all! While the wait was long, it was definitely worth it. The space is smaller than I imagined. The food came out fast for how packed it was. It's worth it!

Do you even know Pittsburgh restaurants, if you don't know Square Cafe?…read more Was it packed? Yes Did we have to wait? Yup But isn't that what we want for our favorite businesses ... and isn't even better when they are fully equipped for their popularity and make the experience great through it all We were immediately greeted by the hostess and given an accurate wait time. You could see the runners and bus team hustling to move along service and turn over tables. As soon as we were seated, the waiter came over and told us to be easy with orders and honestly our coffees and our meals came ridiculously quickly given that every table was fully seated. Okay... so that's how they are awesome despite the overwhelming popularity. Let's just cover the real scoop as to why they are so popular. The restaurant is colorfully decorated with local art and contact to purchase the displayed items. The table has a QR code of Pittsburgh Bucket List places to visit.. so this place is built on community. The menu is filled with modern yummy takes on food, options for every diet, and some extremely inventive local favorites.. I couldn't see a Reuben Benedict and not order it. Marbled Rye toasted with freshly pulled apart corned beef, Russian dressing, and of course a perfectly poached egg with hollandaise. My wife ordered the Chive Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich... and let me tell you that biscuit would be good for every meal of the day! The seasonal drink menu sounds delicious too but we went with a Chai Tea Latte and a French Toast Latte. This place is a Pittsburgh destination! You gotta go to Square Cafe!

We started with a bottle of wine and some bread and butter absolutely loved. Then we got the fried olives because our server recommended it and WOW!! Favorite dish of the night We also got the Octopus, Smoked Trout Pate, and Steak Tartare and ended with the Roasted Duck. The Octopus and Steak Tartare were my top two from this. The duck did not have a lot of flavor on its own but the sauce and sides added the perfect flavors. Ended of course with an espresso martini which was one of my favorite in the city. I will definitely be back here!!

I almost had my bridal shower here back then (before life shifted in a different direction & I said yes to myself instead), and somehow that makes coming back now feel even more full circle. Different season, same table-just enjoying some of my favorite food in the city with my favorite people. If steak frites is on the menu, it's not even a question. I'm ordering it. Every time. I'll savor it properly at the table like a civilized adult...but once I'm home and the pressure's off? Let's just say the restraint disappears because it's that good. I'm not really drinking right now-maybe a celebratory sip of champagne here and there-but if I were, their martini service never misses. It's one of those places that's consistent in the best way. Familiar, special, and somehow always exactly what I'm craving.
