We had a great experience at Yellow Barn Winery! One of the owners walked us through our tasting of all 6 of their wines ($5 and you keep your glass!) For two dollars you get to try ANY of their wines, and you get to keep your glass. The wines are alright, there were a few here I didn't like but over all I enjoyed most of the wines. The lady giving the tasting kind of let you go at it on your own which was interesting, I almost prefer a little more direction since I'm a wine novice. We tried about 6 of the 8 because I was driving, and then she suggested we at least try one or two more because they were ones she was sure we'd like. My boyfriend bought a bottle of wine but I wasn't overly impressed with anything, and it was slightly expensive. The Gift shop was pretty adorable though. Also incase you read the previous reviews and aren't a wine nerd, you might be scared away about the mentioning of "crystals" in the wine. While I didn't expect to, I wouldn't put this place in the same class as a lot of Finger Lake wineries. Their wines are OK. I didn't buy a bottle of anything. However, the tastings are very reasonable. $2 for about 8 tastings and you get to keep your glass. All of their grapes are brought in from the Finger Lakes, so there really isn't much new to experience here. I most likely wouldn't buy any of their wines in a liquor store, but it's not a terrible way to spend 30 minutes. read more

Over the past few years we've lived in the area, we're stopped by most of the wineries to sample their wines and take home a bottle or two. Yesterday was our first stop at Yellow Barn Winery in Sacket's Harbor and the experience was disappointing. The lady who worked there didn't really talk or recommend any wines, she didn't really make any attempts at friendly conversation except trying to sell us on the bus tour of wineries. We did ask to sample some wines and decided to take home a bottle of white table wine, called "King of the North." I don't know if we got a bad bottle or what, but it was the most horrible thing either of us have ever had. We ended up having to cut it with fruit juice to make it halfway palatable. I tried contacting the winery through their Facebook to share our experience and see if they would make an offer to replace the bottle or something (since it may have been a bad bottle). On mobile, there's no option to send a message, so I left a comment. (It was not a rude comment!) They promptly deleted the comment and never contacted me back. That tells me A LOT about their business. Definitely won't be back here and won't recommend them to anyone else. read more

I'm not sure why some Yelpers give this place less than 4 stars, but I really enjoyed the knowledgeable lady here. We did the wine tasting that ranged from white to red to rose wine and it was only $3 per person. So why not try all the wines that were available for tasting? I ended up buying four bottles to take home, since I won't be coming back for awhile. Although there were not a lot of people attending the wine tasting, I thought it was enjoyable and fun. read more

My fiancee and I went here as an impulse driving home from Alexandria Bay for a tasting. The woman seemed surprised we were there, and the tastings were out of dixie cups. She was nice and gave us tourist magazines, so we got a bottle of some rose type wine. We realized later the alcohol content was low and there were weird little crystals at the bottom of the bottle which is disturbing to find after you already drank most. Thousand Island and Coyote Moon were both great though! read more

We stop at a few wineries whenever we travel more than 100 miles. We are probly up to about 20 so far, and a brewery here and there. Something I have always associated with vintners is the same attitude as bed and breakfast owners. Very proud and excited to share their creation. The woman who was working on the afternoon of 7/15 was overly concise and wanted to talk more about her ford than her wine. The wine was ok, nothing special and we did buy two bottles. The residual sugar was higher than you expect, and it reminded me of kit wine that had a 300% markup. We regretted the purchase and this is the first negative winery review we have left. The residue in the bottle and glass was not expected, again home brewer quality. They could have used at least cheese clothe.... read more

To Scott The crystal things are of no harm. Its because it is 100% natural and not processed or treated, which is a good thing. Aging is the natural way for these crystals to dissappear. I would think they haven't been open that long and havent had a chance to age some wines. I found the place to be a nice clean quiet little set-up. The people where friendly. I went there for the second time to get a bottle of the Elvira's Blush. Unfortunatley for me they ran out. I bought Deer Run and Frontenac. Pretty good. I most likley won't make it up there again but they have easy mail ordering on their web site. read more

I am an amateur wine maker, making personal wine at home for myself and occasionally for Holliday's for friends and family as gifts. I had been told by a number of people that if I ever needed any bottles, to bottle my finished wines to try and call wineries for their empty tasting bottles. Places give them away for free or for just a few dollars because they cannot reuse the bottles. I was already told by a few wineries that I was more than welcome to take as many as I want for free....which is AWESOME but a distance for me to drive... Yellow Barn is located a few miles from me, so I called them....SORRY I DID... They did not want any part of helping me..I was told " we throw them away"... Nice, a.k.a. we don't help people, and we don't recycle. Needless to say, Yellow Barn will NEVER be on my wine trail list. read more
