All four stars are for their reservation service. If you call at least an hr ahead, even in the crappiest of weather they will arrive in time. Most recently, I phoned about 8 hrs in advance for a 4AM Tuesday pickup to O'Hare and they were at my door at 3:55AM. They even call upon arriving. I have used this option various times instead of lugging my luggage down the street. Their phone skills lack a few pleasantries but it matters more that I don't miss my flights. As for the typical hailing...may the best man/woman win! Whether you are waving your hand, showing a little leg or falling drunk down in front of the cab, I wish you the best of luck through this service or any other. read more

Avoid at all costs. I reserved a cab 12 hours in advance to pick me up this morning to take me to a work off-site meeting. I reserved the cab for 8:10 a.m. At 8:15 a.m., I got a notification that "there weren't any cabs in my area." I proceeded to wait for a cab for another 20 minutes before walking on my own to try and find one. I was late for my meeting and when I called to see what was going on, there was no explanation and little sympathy. Um, why would I go to the trouble of reserving a cab if I didn't need it? Wow, wow, and wow. So after a fun lil night on the town my girls and I grabbed a cab. The gals got dropped off at a hotel just 4 blocks from our evening festivities while I got dropped off in the South Loop. My girls gave me their cash according to the meter and I went about my business. All good, right? WRONG. So cab driver drops me off and it's $7.25 - so I whip out a $10 bill and figure that's cool. Hand it to him. And then, he presses some magic button (again) and the amount goes up to $10.25. No problem. I figure a dollar or two for random late night driving extraness or whatever. But I figure I need to ask why the cost just went up $3 (by the way, I'm fine with paying but I'd like to know what that extra $3 was all about - additional ppl for 4 blocks? zones? late night?) Future reference, folks, future reference. Cab driver tells me, "you need to learn how to read a meter." Excuse me? I asked a simple question in a uber neutral tone. Then he proceeds to call me all sorts of inappropriate names that rhyme with "itch" and whatnot. I refuse to listen to him, pay and leave. He then reeeeevs up the cab to scare me and continues to swear. Um ... what's the problem? I paid you BEFORE asking about the additional amount. So you got your money and tip right?! I tell him I have his cab number (1420 by the way) and walk towards the building. He continues to yell expletives beyond belief while reversing/driving/revving the cab (which naturally scares me). All that to say that this experience was scary and inappropriate enough to never use this company again. I'm sure that there are decent drivers employed by Yellow Cab, but this particular driver broke all sorts of rules (and he should be fired, IMHO). A simple question (post pay) resulted in ridiculous aggressive behavior. 1 star because I actually have to select a star. Otherwise I'd pick 0/5 no doubt. Horrible! We waited 35 minutes for them to send a text saying they were outside. We went outside to find no cab. A minute later they call and say they are 5 minutes away. So we wait like chumps. Another 5 minutes go by and we get another text saying they are out front. My fiancé calls so tell them that we are outside and there is an error because no cab is there and they tell us someone is around the corner. 2 minutes later the dispatcher calls to tell us once again there is a cab out front. We finally decided to walk 8 blocks to the Halsted bus and take that instead. All in all, a giant waste of our time!! read more

After the conference I was attending in Chicago, I hailed a cab in front of the Palmer House, and a Yellow Cab pulled up. It was one of those over-sized hatchback cabs, and the ride was clean and spacious. The driver, whose name I didn't get, was awesome. He's been driving taxis for eight years and is studying to be an accountant at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. Lives in Hyde Park. Dapper dresser, and a wonderful laugh. Only twice across the span of a year have I needed to call a cab from my apartment (which is ten minutes driving time from the loop), and each time I had to speak with two dispatch operators and have taxi numbers changed for my order. On top of that, I was over an hour late for each appointment (and I scheduled ahead with time to spare). What gives? Is it really that hard to give a customer a taxi ride somewhere? Dreadful. Oh how I wish I could leave 0 stars. This is the second time that I have tried unsuccessfully to order a cab from yellow cab. Today I booked a cab online at 8:49. I received a message at 8:58 telling me that my cab was 2.1 miles away. At 9:20 I received a call from an operator wanting to know if I had been picked up. I was still waiting in my kitchen. Supposedly she contacted the driver, who told her that he was 10 minutes away. At 9:30 am I received a text that said "taxi may not be coming." W. T. F. I called yellow cab, and the operator told me that my file (or whatever it is where they see notes) said that I had already been picked up and dropped off. Again, W. T. F. I told the operator that was absolutely not the case and, wow, can you imagine this, when she tried to get a hold of the cab driver to see what was going on, he was just nowhere to be found. They told me they were sending another cab, which I have to accept. It is now 9:53, an hour since I received a text that a car was 2 miles away. I know how busy cab companies are during rush hour, so I had also ordered another cab from a competitor. As soon as I got the text from yellow cab, I cancelled my other cab. I have now missed a crucial dental appointment, one that I needed to attend TODAY. This was the worst, shadiest cab "service" I've ever received and it has created a seriously traumatic situation/day. Therefore I will never use Yellow cab again. read more

I will NEVER use Yellow Cab again. First, they said driver was 1 mile away. Then, 2.5 miles. Then, 10 minutes later, a call telling me a cab should arrive in. 20 minutes. 25 minutes later, I called. They tried to verify my location on the southside. I was on west side. I get a message cab is outside. No cab. Then, the operator tells me it's out there. They get one star because they fail at doing the only thing they are required to do - which is pick you up and take you somewhere! 4 times out of 5 there are no problems. But if you are like me, the only time you order a cab is when you need to be somewhere. Yellow Cab has failed to pick me up three times in as many months, which means I'm walking to the 'L' and I'm late for a meeting. When I call to ask where my cab is - the surly operator replied that she had NO RECORD of my order. What? She has a computer right in front of her. The company has an entire system to keep track of this stuff. I just called to confirm with a live operator eight hours ago. And I live in Bucktown, not Englewood! How is it even possible to screw this up? My suggestion - if you need to guarantee your timely arrival, go with Blue Ribbon. read more

I initially got a Yelp account to only write positive reviews for helpful companies/great restaurants/excellent services. Yellow Cab Chicago merits a poor review. I don't know why I called Yellow Cab. I used Flash Cab when I lived in Hyde Park and they were reliable. Why did I call Yellow Cab? Whatever the reason, I scheduled an SUV cab to arrive as soon as possible. I received calls every 10 minutes to let me know that a cab has failed to dispatch, and asked whether I still wanted a cab. After the sixth call, I was fed up. I walked a few blocks and hailed a dispatch cab (that shamelessly took the longest route possible, but that's another story). Investing in more SUV cabs may be a better solution. read more

Terrible experience. It was raining and I flagged down a cab. After telling him the destination we started going. We got about 3 blocks into the trip and he was complaining about traffic. He then abruptly changed his mind and asked us to find another cab, having me get out of the car at a green light on the corner just before getting onto 90/94 in heavy rain. The cab number was 1182. I realize drivers don't want to sit in traffic but it turns out that being in Chicago, traffic is a very real possibility at almost any given time. Incredibly unsafe, sped like crazy, made quick and dangerous driving maneuvers and tailgated. Just awful. We all got out and were like, are you effing kidding me?? It was legitimately scary. Check out the other reviews. They speak for themselves. In my opinion, I would NOT use this company. Take an El, or the Metra. Or take an Uber. So I ordered a taxi at 12:24am. Yes, I know it's New Year's and everyone is super busy, but the guy never showed. I called back at 1:15am and the dispatcher told me that the guy told her he'd already picked us up. Last time I used this service, I got an automated phone call telling us that our request was accepted, but not this time. We got nothing. So she told me our request was put to the top of the dispatch list. It's now 2:01am and we still haven't gotten the automated phone call despite her assurances we were at the top. Never again! *UPDATE* We canceled our order at 2:30 because they still had no one to take us. I get that it was NYE, but out of the hundreds of cabs, there wasn't a single one available in two hours? I actually prefer Yellow Cab to the many other taxi companies in Chicago. They have TV screens that double as an easy payment method with a touch screen, the vehicles are newer models with lots of leg room, and I actually see them as more reliable and dependable. But the problem is a general issue that ambushed me. Be aware that if you take any cab that reaches into the Chicago suburbs you will be charged double for the round trip to get the cab back to Chicago. I did not know that was a law when I was running late one day and a 13 mile trip from the Nordica terminal (last stop for bus 65 going west) to Itasca cost me $60. Ouch! Now I only depend on cabs if I cannot get a Zipcar because it is actually less expensive to rent a Zipcar by the hour for errands and appointments. But I prefer Yellow Cab if I have a choice. read more

I called in to order a cab about three hours before I needed it. Phone service was quick and smooth. The taxi arrived about 15 minutes early -- I happened to glance out the window and saw it waiting. The driver was courteous and loaded/unloaded my very heavy suitcases for me. Minus one star just because the cab smelled a bit smoky and the driver talked on his cell phone for a couple minutes while driving (though to be fair, I didn't ask him to stop doing it either). Two weekends in a row we have tried get a cab from Yellow Cab. First time we called in and used their automated service--said they would call us back with an ETA. Half hour later I call and talk to a dispatch person. They don't have my order. Fine, place order--again, they will call me back with an ETA. Half hour later, nothing. Call again. Dispatch says we're having a busy night (it's Saturday night--this can't be much of a surprise) do you still want to wait? I say that I haven't even gotten an ETA on a cab. Her reply? I'm just not sure we can get a cab all the way out to you. We live at Diversey and Western!! How is that "way out" from anywhere?? End result, no cab that night. This weekend we decide to be proactive. Use the online app an hour in advance for a cab at 6:30. At 6:25 we get a text saying our cab isn't ready so call dispatch. We call. They say that there are backed up. We say we placed the order an hour ago--they say they didn't get the order until 6:10 and say that the online app isn't affiliated with them. No response to our comment that they advertise and take orders from the app... End result--they suggest we secure alternative means of transportation. Glad that a cab company can't handle the task of sending a cab around with an hour's notice. Glad they waited until our departure time to let us know they weren't coming. Terrible company. read more

I too suggest avoiding Yellow Cab and its subsidiaries in Chicago. I booked Yellow cab through Taxi Magic night before for 7:45am pickup to Midway Airport. Got email from Taxi Magic confirming. At 7:50am the next morning when the cab had not come I called Yellow Cab and after a short wait got a dispatcher who had a clear record of my order, the time requested, and my phone-- BUT almost instantly said they had no available cabs. Obviously never occurred to Yellow Cab to call me (since they had my phone), to inform they wouldn't be sending a cab. My guess is that my Taxi Magic order never made it to a dispatcher and no effort had ever been made to send a cab. So I had to drive myself to airport and barely made plane. Stay away from Yellow-- they drop the ball as many times as they succeed. read more

I don't often think to write a review for a taxi service, but this past weekend, I told our amazing driver, Ahmet, that I would. We were trying to catch a cab after North Coast closed early on Sunday night. We were headed back to my apt which happened to be near one of the after parties, and Ahmet was one cool dude. I had a similar experience the night before with Yellow Cab, which was just having a cool dude driving us, talking with us, and generally seemed to appreciate his job. If you're on the streets of Chicago at this moment, you will note that it is snowing balls out and the driving conditions are slippery and awful. On Chicago & Orleans, I had the pleasure of running into CAB 73. As we were all merging into one lane, the driver refused to let me merge in front of him. I had already let someone in front of me so this would have been the acceptable and conscientious thing to do. Instead, he inched up to my car and refused to let me in. He then banged on my window and asked me if I was trying to hit his car and what I was doing? I then responded in an irate manner, "What are you doing bitch? Are you kidding?" This isn't time to be competitive in slippery road conditions. It's also rush hour traffic. I called their dispatch and complained and in exact words said that CAB 73 behaved in a "rude, inappropriate, and dickheaded manner!" If you see this dickhead on the road, give him the middle finger. Haven't used a cab in the city for awhile. I like a lot of people migrated to uber and lyft. I would love to be able to support local taxis however Every time I try my experience sucks. Today was no different. I picked up cab number 3529 at grand and rush near the mag mile. I had a long day at work and didn't want to wait for an uber. When I told my cabbie where I was going he started to complain I was taking him out of the city. Now to be clear I was going to western and Augusta (10 min away). Multiple times he said you're taking me out of the city. Clearly he was frustrated. Am I missing something? As a cabbie isn't your job to drive me to where I need to go and i pay you? Enough with the bad attitude about using credit cards to pay. Yes, I understand that it means you don't get your money right away. Yes, I know that it means you have to spend a painful 2 extra minutes with me. GET OVER IT! I hate, HATE it when the cab driver gives you a hard time about using a credit card to pay. (I only do it when I have to, I swear.) In order to be licensed by the City of Chicago, cab drivers must accept credit cards, and they must do it without a 'tude. Just so you know, if your driver refuses to take your card or gives you some BS about the machine being broken, you can report them and they get fined. $50 the first time and more each and every time they get reported. I have discovered that as soon as I mention this fact, their machine miraculously works again. Wow, isn't that amazing *insert golf claps here*. Yellow Cab, I greatly dislike you. Dear Yellow Cab, I'd like to take a moment to sincerely thank all the courteous, professional, and helpful team members at Yellow Cab Chicago for helping this naïve Texan learn some big city lessons. Last night, when one of your lovely dispatchers told me a taxi would be around in 20 minutes, why would I question that? I understand, now, that there are parts of town drivers just won't go to in the middle of the night. Like the part of town where I live--or the one I was stranded in last night. Lessons learned? Do not get yourself stranded very far away from anywhere safe or familiar; no one's coming to pick you up (even if they say they are). Alternately, maybe the dispatcher's insistence on debating semantics, i.e., that Western and Garfield at the northbound no. 50 bus stop is not a physical location ("But it is" I said. "I'm physically here now and it's cold."), is her toe-dragging way of not being recorded saying that there's no way in hell a cab would pick me up from that location. It's okay, though. As it turned out, the blind cocaine dealer who kept me company last night was very respectful and friendly once his companion explained in Spanish that I could unfortunately understand that I was not a sex worker. I'm trying to just feel good about what this says about my appearance, rather than wondering what it says about how I smell/sound. He was so friendly that he let his offer for drugs stand even after he learned the relative unlikeliness of getting a beej in return. Pretty cool, I'd say. After 45 unseasonably cold minutes talking in broken Spanglish with the dealer and his sidekick, the bus finally came. And all's well that ends well, right? Since you helped me learn some new things, I thought I'd close this communiqué with some Socratic type questions that maybe will help expand your understanding of the world or (ideally) cultivate a burgeoning sense of responsibility for the things you do and say. Here we go: what would you choose if you had to, on the fly, decide whether it would be safer to let the coke dealer casually touch your knee, pretend to stumble away from his touch, or assert your boundaries about strangers who just thought you were a prostitute touching you when you were stranded and cold at not-a-physical-location? Moreover, when was the last time you were at not-a-physical location and how was that possible? Is it safer to tell someone a cab will be there in 20 minutes after a debate about the essential nature of matter and space or to simply say that no one is coming to get them? This is by far the WORST cab company in Chicago! I have had SO many horrible experiences with them. I got hit by a Chicago yellow cab that did not stop at a 4 way stop sign when I was already more than halfway through the intersection. Additionally, I had a cab driver take me a round-a-bout way home, driving past my street (Shiller) two times, as if I did not know where I lived. When i called him out on it and told him to let me out where I was, he said that the way he went was the fastest... He went past my street TWICE! When I got out of the cab after paying, , he followed me, screaming out his window that he was right. I am a young female and this was COMPLETELY inappropriate. Needed a cab in random part of town that didn't seem to have any cab traffic. The nearby subway stop was closed. Didn't see bus stops nearby either. No problem! We will just call a cab company! After looking up cab companies to call via yelp, I'm not going to lie. I got scared. Like "OMG we're going to be stuck here & never make it home" scared. I was worried and skeptical if a cab would ever come. My friend said we'd just try their text service and wait it out. That seems like a good option.. seeing as how that was our ONLY option. Ok. so he texts the company and we sit down at a cafe ready for a long wait. He excuses himself to use the restroom. 30 seconds later, I see a text from Yellow Cab. A cab will be there in 5 minutes. We quickly grab our check and before my friend can even pay it, the cab is outside. At this point, I'm hauling ass like a mad person to let the driver know we're here and haven't bailed on him. We were lucky, the driver had a fare that didn't show up a couple of blocks away so he happened to be in the area. The driver was such a nice man. Very chill, listened to some good tunes. He heard me ask my friend a question about a park in Chicago. So as we drove by he was nice enough to point it out to me. Really pleasant driver and pleasant ride. The moral of the story: There are lots of bad reviews.. But if you're in a jam and need a ride, things CAN turn out well like they did for us :). read more

I called the Yellow Cab Company in Tinley Park to pick us up from our hotel and take us to the concert in Tinley Park. I called around 11:00 a.m. and spoke with Crystal to pickup 7 of us in a minivan. The cost was $6 per person to go 2 miles - but whatever. We were supposed to have a 7:00 pm pickup. They were a NO SHOW!!!!! No phone call - nothing! When I tried to call them, only got an answering machine. Needless to say, we had to drive ourselves and missed a good portion of the show. Too bad I can't give 0 stars. Before I got in, I asked the cabbie if it was ok that I used a credit card because I didn't have cash. He said no problem. When we got to my destination, I gave him the card. His machine was beeping and taking a long time. He told me my card was denied. I had used my card to buy dinner right before I got in the cab, so I knew there wasn't a problem. I asked him to run it again. Denied. I gave him another card I had on me. Denied. I told him that I was sure these were working and that maybe there was something wrong with his machine. He turned around and got in my face and asked "What are you trying to pull here?" I told him I was just trying to pay him in a way that he was required by law to accept. He drove me to an ATM and told me to go get money. I told him I didn't have a bank card to use. He yelled at me, accused me of trying to scam him and steal from him. I told him again that it seemed his machine was broken. He then told me I needed to call someone who could feed him a good credit card number. I called my dad and gave him his card number. Denied. At this point, he seemed to realize that it was his machine, but instead of apologizing and trying to make it right, he continued to yell at me about how I was wasting his time, that I was scamming him and that I should "learn to carry cash." I told him that if his machine was broken, he should've told me before I even got in, when I asked. He told me he was going to call the cops on me and asked for my driver license. I was afraid, so I did it. He copied all the info from my license and wrote down my credit card info and told me that his company would be in touch with me. A month later, I saw a $16 entry on my credit card from Yellow Cab. It was initially a $6.50 ride, but I guess he wanted to stick it to me for "wasting his time." The guy was a total jackass. I would've demanded his name, badge number or whatever, but it was almost midnight in a less than great part of town, and I was a young woman alone - I was too scared to really think about that at the time. read more

DO NOT call Yellow Cab to pick you up if you need to be anywhere on time. I called on a Thursday morning, a little before seven am, for a ride from Logan Square to downtown for a work conference at 8am. They said they would be at my house in 10-15 minutes - which would have been around 7:10, plenty of time to make it downtown. I waited in front of my house starting at 7:05 (in case the driver was early) - by 7:20, I called to see if there was a problem with the driver. The dispatcher put me on hold, then let me know the driver would arrive in 5 minutes. I waited another 10 minutes, and after no cab, called again. This time, nobody picked up the phone. I called again from a friend's cell phone and someone answered, so I asked to speak with the Manager. After explaining my situation, the manager just said, "I'll let you speak to the dispatcher" - who again told me it would be five more minutes. By 7:45, I decided they weren't coming and called Sun Cab, who picked me up in ten minutes as promised. I will NEVER call Yellow Cab for a pick up again - the driver never showed up and the dispatchers were not helpful at all. read more

This is without and beyond any doubt the worst customer service I have ever had the displeasure of receiving. First of all, when I called to complain and handle the fact that my cab was not present the SIXTH TIME I had been faced with such an issue, I was faced with attitude and a lack of willingness to assist me. I have had the following issues multiple times: 1. Ordering a cab that says it is on it's way, and never shows up. 2. Ordering a cab that arrives and is instructed to wait 3 minutes for me to come outside, however 30 seconds later it pulls away as I wave my arms frantically in a chase after it. 3. I receive multiple and conflicting phone calls about when exactly my cab is going to arrive AT ALL. I do not understand if this company is made up entirely of morons or people who simply don't give a shit about the customer. Either way, let them know what they deserve by never even ATTEMPTING to utilize their services. I can guarantee that your efforts are futile anyways. read more

I had requested a cab walking home from the gym because it was much cooler than I had anticipated it being and had not packed appropriately. A cab pulled over and we had to go about half a mile. When we arrived at my destination I had to pay with credit. Then he started to complain and refused to take my card nor would he send it back to the machine. He continued to call me a liar for not having cash. He eventually sent the payment to the machine in the back and even after the charge was approved he kept my doors locked and refused to let me out. He was just yelling and calling me names and told me that I was a waste of his time. I then took my phone out and started to record his actions and told him I was calling the police. I recorded his cab number just as he unlocked the doors and told me to get out. I did with much pleasure but still called the cops. As a female traveling alone at night a cab driver should never lock her in the cab against her will. I am hoping that this review gets read and something is done with this cab driver. read more

Watch out for meters running too fast. I recently took a 0.4 mile ride that cost me $6.00!!! It only should've been $3.00. I think this specific cab 625 has something going on with its meter calibration. I'm also trying to report this to the city. read more

The last straw! I have always hated taken yellow cab. They do not regulate their drivers properly and should standards for their drivers. My cab #128 on 10.17.15 was so rude! He talked loudly on his phone the entire time and chose to pull the car over to argue with us about the way to get to our house even though we would know the better way to get to our house at that time of night. I told him he should't argue with the customer. I'm done with this company and this is the last straw. I'll wait for another taxi company or call an uber. NO THANK YOU! read more

This is NOT the company to call when you need to be somewhere on time. When I initially called them, they said that they would call me back with an e.t.a.. 10-15 minutes later, they called and said that it would be a 14 minute waiting period. 20 minutes after that, I called and they said it would be an additional 9 minutes! This is not the way to do business in a big city where there are many cab companies. Very disappointed and dissatisfied customer here! read more

HORRIBLE!!! The cab number was 3009 which I ordered to 805 W.Randolph street, I was heading to 1926 W.Harrison St. When we arrived to destination the driver immediately turned off the meter, which showed the amount of 7 dollars and few cents and talled me that it was 13 dollars 35 cents. When I asked him that the meter showed different amount, he said that we have to add to this amount the amount for the fist mile, then he started saying that the amount showed was 13 dollars. When I asked him to turn on the meter he refused. Also he refused to give me a printed receipt with the amount I have to pay. When I started calling the company to figure out he throwed my change on the floor of back seat and kicked me ot from the car. The change by the way was not enough, he left some tip for himself without asking me if I actually want to live a tip (which I would never do for his rudeness and cheating on me) read more
