Do not use Yellow Cab in Austin. Two bad experiences with them in the last month: 1. Trying to go about 2 miles, should have been no more than 10 cab ride. The driver "got turned around" near the freeway and then insissted he was going a faster way- basically drove us around to jack up the fare. What should have been a few bucks turned into ~25 2. THE BIGGEST WTF EVER! Got in a cab after having a few drinks. The person I was with threw up in a bag in the cab and a TINY amount got on the floor near the door. The cab driver said it was a $100 CASH fee (which is a law in Austin, up to $100 for puking). I told him I didn't have cash and he insisted it had to be in cash. I simply asked if he could give us a break and do $80 since the only a tiny bit of puke didn't make it in the bag. The driver PULLED OVER, LOCKED US IN THE CAB and CALLED THE POLICE! I insisted that was not necessary and that if he took me to an ATM I would get cash- but the cops came and the driver got his cash (the law does not say it has to be in cash) which he probably pocketed most of and gave yellow cab like 20 bucks for the small amount of puke. In short, USE UBER OR LYFT because the taxis in Austin ESPECIALLY YELLOW CAB will rip you off every time! read more

I don't usually go out of my way to write reviews, but I feel yellow cab deserves it. Had to schedule a cab to get to the airport during PM rush hour. Online system didn't know my address (that's the only reason they lost a star). The woman who took my call warned me that they couldn't guarantee a pick up time, so I requested 15 minutes earlier than I needed. Paul showed up 3 minutes ahead of schedule. Took my suggestions for a route, and made one change that was totally worthwhile (avoided a bad intersection, maybe cost me 50 cents, fine). After hearing Uber horror stories on Yelp (that and not having a smart phone which would allow me to download the Uber/Lyft apps), I decided (out of a lack of options) to use Yellow Cab. In their defense, I used them three times via the online reservation system and each time the driver was there on time or a bit early. The drivers also took the correct routes to my destination and didn't try to pad their fares. Most recently I took a yellow cab after the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight and the driver was mellow and got me to where I needed to go. I think they charged me a $2 late night fee, but compared with the "surge pricing" of Uber, I feel that $2 extra isn't horrifically expensive. I'm not saying all taxi drivers in Austin are perfect, but so far I have had a good experience with yellow cab (knock on wood). read more

Being back Uber!!!! I am a frequent traveler and with the forced departure of Uber and Lyft from Austin (thanks Austin City Council) I am forced to take taxis to and from the airport. I use the Yellow Cab Hail a Cab app but the taxi frequently arrives late. When I asked a driver about this he said that Yellow Cab policy is to only dispatch a taxi 15 to 20 minutes ahead of the time required, despite when I used the app (even the night before) and despite the travel time to my house. The driver suggested that if I wanted a taxi in time I should call instead. Great app guys! Anyway, this morning I called at 7:15 and asked for a taxi at 8:00. All set. At 8:05 I get a call from the taxi driver saying that he is downtown and won't get there until 8:30. He was only just dispatched. I complained loudly that I needed a taxi earlier as I had a flight to catch. He suggested I call dispatch. I did. All I got was "Sorry" and "It's our policy to dispatch only 15 to 20 minutes before the scheduled time" and "Pick up times are not guaranteed" Time to change the policy. Time to bring back Uber and Lyft. Find another way to travel if you need to get anywhere on time. read more

My son left his adidas bag in the yellow cab traveling home from a trip the day before thanksgiving and we realized it the same day we lost it as soon as we made it home. I started calling the cab company immediatlly - WHAT A JOKE!!! Each time I get someone, I got a completely different story of hours of operation. M-F 7-4; M-F 9-5... closed for the entire Thanksgiving break - seriously!!!! I finally called during some person's idea of business hours and reached the lost and found only to get an automated recording telling me to EMAIL the lost item to an address? Why didn't they just tell me this in the first place? Net result - the items are LONG gone, ebay, craigslist or somewhere. I was very worried and skeptical about using Yellow Cabs but no choice--my husband in a wheelchair was too sick to get to his doctor any other way . The Wheelchair accessible van arrived on time, the accessibility was perfect and the driver very nice. We got dropped off at the wrong location(misinformation), and he returned and took us to the right one, and we were able to call him when we were finished to take us home. Was staying at the Crowne Plaza north of downtown. The front desk recommended this company. I placed a call to them at 7 am for a pick up at 8:30 (plenty of time in my somewhat naive mind). Needed to be at my meeting downtown at 9:30. Like others reviewers, I started calling them at 8:35. Automated system tells you the nonsense about trying to locate a car, call back in 5 minutes. Did this repeatedly for half an hour. Same response each time. There is an option to speak to an operator but an operator never picks up. Cab FINALLY arrived at 9:10. Forty minutes late. Explained to the driver what occurred and he was outraged at what his company had done. He went out of his way to get me to my stop ASAP. Somehow made it w/3 minutes to spare. If you need reliable, dependable taxi service...try a different company. If your schedule is flexible go ahead and take a chance w/yellow cab. Don't fret, I'm calling Crowne Plaza to ask them to consider finding a more reliable service to recommend. Btw, this Crowne Plaza ROCKS aside from the poor taxi recommendation. read more

As a bartender in Austin, I use Yellow Cab a lot and never have a problem. I use the Austin hail-a-cab app and I get a cab in less than 10 minutes most of the time, unless I'm at a friend's way out in Westlake, then it's usually about 15 minutes. It's not uncommon to get a cab in less than 4 minutes at my place off S. Lamar. Sometimes I don't have time to put my boots on. Yellow Cab has gotten really fast since they got an app last year. If I don't get a cab right away, it's usually because of traffic during a special event or an accident. Most of the time, Yellow Cab is very fast. Most all of the drivers I've met are knowledgeable and friendly. I've learned a lot by asking them questions about cabs, ordering a cab and traffic flows. I love how they can get me to my destination fast, even in rush hour traffic. Maybe I should share some knowledge here for Austin cab newbies and new comers? 1. The best way to get a cab is to use the Austin Hail-a-cab app. As soon as a driver gets my request, I can see where they are, and I know when they will be here. I also like that I can call him or her directly with a tap on the screen if I need to give details like a gate code, building number, or if the gps has me at a different address. 2. Never make a time call (a set time pick-up), unless you're going to the airport because drivers don't want to wait for me to get ready or finish my drink. I don't blame them. (At one time I didn't know any better, and It was really rude of me to think that a working person should wait for me to ready, or finish dinner, and not get paid. I made other people wait and that was rude and inconsiderate.) When I do need to make a time call to the airport, I usually call it in because I just like to speak with someone. But when I'm running late to get to the airport and decide I don't have time to drive, I use the app because it sends one right away. 3. If you're on 6th Street when a lot of people are out, don't order a cab. Just go to a cab stand and wait your turn, or hail one on the street corner. (I wait for a Yellow Cab most of the time because their drivers have the most experience.) I know if I leave the bar a little early, like 1:45AM, I can get a cab much faster than if I wait for all the drunkards to spill out on the street at 2AM. Do the math. If I want to be a lush and drink up til closing time, I don't mind waiting a little longer. We're having fun, right? I will usually grab a bite to eat from a food truck if I wait til 2AM to leave the bar. 4. Don't call Yellow Cab and expect them to give you a pick up time when it's a busy Friday or Saturday night because the dispatchers have no way of knowing if someone is going to be dropping off near me and be here immediately. On the rare occasions that I don't get a cab in 20 minutes (usually when I'm nowhere near downtown), I will call Yellow Cab and say "I ordered a cab and I'm ready to go. Can you make sure my phone number and address are correct on my order, please?" I do NOT do this to check on my number and address. I do this because the drivers see a phone sign by the order and they know I'm really ready to go, and it's the polite Austin way of dealing with customer service people. A little politeness goes a long way with working people in Austin, folks. 5. Answer the phone when you call for a cab. Pretty simple, I know, but a lot of people are really drunk when they order a cab (and can't walk and chew gum at the same time) and they probably forget what they were doing. Don't expect the cab to wait for you if you can't answer your phone. Don't be a hippy Spicolli... "Well Mr. Hand, we're both here so we're on OURRR time." No, you're on the cab driver's time so just be respectful of their time and others needing a cab. Just answer the phone and be ready. I don't know what some people are complaining about on here. Yellow Cab has drivers who've been driving in Austin for 10 to 20+ plus years without an accident. They have some of the best drivers on the road. Most are very informative, insightful, and funny. On the rare occasions that I don't have a great experience, it's usually because I'M having a bad day. The cab ride usually helps me out of it. Most of the time I realize that I was not being cooperative. I don't know what I would do without Yellow Cab. They are way better than other cities I've taken cabs in like New Orleans, NYC and DC. I know one driver, Gary, who's about 80 and has driven in London, Boston and Austin for over 50 years. If I was a rockstar and had the money, I would buy a limo and have him (or Sam) drive me and my friends everywhere. Until then, I'm very satisfied and happy with Yellow Cab. Super rude, charged me an extreme amount, can't speak correct english, and couldn't deliver me to my correct address. One of their drivers just cussed at me. I ordered one of their cabs through the zTrip app and when my ride got picked up, I sent the driver a text with my apartment info and the apartment gate code. He didn't see the text which isn't a problem, but when I gave him the info over the phone when he called me- he kept shouting at me and told me to walk to him because he couldn't see the building numbers (they're all lit up btw). When I tried to tell him where to drive so he could see me, he just kept shouting at me to come find him. When I told him that I would just cancel the cab because his anger was making me uncomfortable, he called me a bitch. Not an awesome experience. I'm not going to be using their app or their service anymore. I'm downloading all the other ride share apps available in my area instead. read more

Yelp's star ratings strike again! The operations of this company need MAJOR improvement.Yellow Cab will open your vehicle for 35 bucks if you lock yourself out. I contacted them to have this done and was told the driver would be where I was in 20 minutes. I waited 25 before I called... I advised the woman who answered the phone how long I had been waiting, she looked in her system and responded, "If he's not there in 15 minutes, call back". I waited that amount of time and made a 3rd call. A different lady answered and advised me that the driver was instructed to head to the WRONG ADDRESS! Thank goodness, at that moment the driver decided to call my number. My phone rings and the driver explains that he was just sitting in the parking lot where I was , but then received instructions that I was at a different location. He headed that way , but decided to call and thank goodness he did because we were able to get him back to where he was originally (the RIGHT location). The price was right for the job, but the headache that comes with it might not be worth it. read more

I called for a cab and waited for an hour before being called by a driver. He proceeds to tell me he is all the way across town and will be another 30 minutes to an hour. It's no wonder ridesharing is killing taxi companies, they have multiple cars around me but send me a driver that is across town. I missed my appointment to pick up my car because they can't give you any real estimate on how long it will take to get a car to you and then you wait 2 hours for nothing. It has been a month since I lost my phone in the Yellow taxi cab. I had called the Yellow cab company to report the phone was left in the cab. Spoke with dispatcher Susan who called the driver while I was on hold. The driver of cab 80 told Susan "he have not found a phone in a month." Well I have to disagree with that. My doctors office called me stating that a cab driver called and said he found my phone. I contacted Yellow cab again via email with the information and still have not heard anything from them. If you loose something in the Yellow cab you are subject not to get it back. I left the phone in Uber car got it back the next day without any issues. Yellow cab is a joke, they are expensive, takes to long for them to pick a person up from there location and they are thieves. read more

I've never had a problem with the company for over 40 years, so I'm suspect about the negative reviews, which I believe are generated by competitors or digital hipsters. I called for a taxi from the doctor's office at Austin Ctr Blvd. I told him to take me home via North Mopac. instead he took me for a fifteen minute all around Research Blvd, , Riata Trace, etc. My bill usually is bout $20 plus tip. This guy charged me $28.50, without the tip. I kept telling him he was going the wrong way he totally ignored me. I won't ever get into a cab with this guy driving. I called Yellow Cab at the recommendation of the hotel I was staying at and used them three times over the F1 weekend -- downtown to the Barton Mall, mall to downtown, and then to the airport at 4:45 AM Monday morning. Each time I waited 1-3 minutes before they showed up and they give you a call as soon as they arrive. Not sure if I got lucky or they got organized after receiving the poor ratings but I would recommend them. read more

I tried to book a cab ride for a friend of mine and I wanted to pay with my credit card. When I called to do so I was told to book on their website using Z Trip, which I did. Not only was I charged for $60 for a 2 mile trip, the cab driver demanded my friend pay him in cash, even though I told him I had already paid. When I got the receipt for the $60 I called to see if I could be refunded just the amount my friend had been forced to pay. I was told the "manager" was out all week and there was no one there that could help me. Biggest ripoff ever. I have disputed with my bank and will never use them ever again.
