Tried the Monte Cristo sandwich. 2.5/5. Nothing special but good. Ordered the onion rings as suggested & Best onion rings so far. Nice lighter batter & jumbo size rings. Onions were cooked ppperfect. Evey bite was a perfect separation from the ring. Amazing selection of hot sauces on hand. My friend ordered the Thursday special meat loaf. I really wanted to like this place, but the service really took my review south, The parking lot was full, but there was no line. I decided to sit at the counter. I wrongly thought my service might be better. After sitting there 15 minutes I was finally acknowledged and asked if I wanted coffee. I had already checked out the menu and glanced at it one more time and was ready o order. The waiter was no where to be found. Ten minutes later I was able to place my order, and 40 minutes later I received my food. Even though I was sitting directly across from the coffee machine I had to ask for them to refill my empty cup even after they filled those of the people on my left and right. I guess my empty cup at the edge of the counter was invisible. I ordered two eggs over medium, hash browns, sausage patties and crispy bacon with whole wheat toast. The food was the highlight and was well prepared and tasty. I will definitely give this place another shot, because I realize everyone has their days. I have to say it was quite good, the pmace was very clean and the service was friendly and efficient. i had the breakfast burrito.. the potatoes inside were crispy, there were lots of fresh peppers and onion and the egg was just done, not annihilated. The pies looked good but I was too full to try. The menu has a little bit of something for everyone, there were 2-3 lunch and breakfast specials available... check the chalkboard wall to the right when you step in the restaurant. HOT SAUCE! If you like hot sauce Yellowcat offers around 15-20 different choices you can pick up at various places in the restaurant. tl;dr. This is a family owned a restaurant with a breakfast and lunch menu. It is been operated under the same ownership for more than a year. The owner Ms. Wilson likes to collect salt and pepper shakers. Cold cuts that were in a disgusting and un sellable condition, we're adulterated by the cook by grilling them. The cook appeared to be under maximum profit pressure and not permitted to throw out unpalatable inedible cold cuts. The food was disgusting. Upon hearing a question concerning the condition of the sandwich ingredients; One employee was both hostile and aggressive, invading the personal space of the customer and using hostile language. Coffee and ice water were quickly brought to the table and refilled. The waitresses are equally experienced and efficient. Unapologetically serving unpalatable food and a hostile reception by restaurant employees, means this restaurant gets the very lowest of low ratings. read more

Found this gem on Yelp while in town for a lacrosse tournament. Wow!!!!! Three of us dined in for breakfast and everything was great!!! Breakfast sandwich (the bacon was soooo good!), biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and grits, and the giant ham steak with eggs and hash browns. The star of the show was our server - I didn't get his name, but he was one of the best we've ever had! After rave reviews from friends we stopped for a late breakfast. We almost didn't enter since a waitress was smoking a cigarette next to the front door. We sat in the car discussing it while she watched us. She moved about 8 feet away from the door as I'm certain she knew our reluctance was due to her smoking by the door. Omg such a cute place. When I came here I literally saw the sign and thought it was the cutest thing ever and I had to take a photo. I love the logo it's cute and sweet like literally so adorable. And the staff, so sweet. We did have to wait but it was really busy and the worker kept checking in on us and apologized. Literally the sweetest lady. She even complimented my hair and we had banter about it. Which usually people don't like since it's dyed a wacky color. I wish I got her name so I could include her, but literally the biggest sweetheart. Anyway the food, was really good. Heard of this place and it's always busy, finally got a chance to visit. As we pull up our waitress is out front smoking. We sit while she finishes her smoke. She comes in and comes over to us smelling of smoke with no hand washing. We order our food. It comes in a timely fashion. We both ordered biscuits and gravy she got a waffle and I got hash browns. Last time I checked your customers should come first and not have to wait and be passed by over and over and over again. The lady that was sitting tables was so rude and disrespectful. My friend and I came in about 11:15 AM. It was myself and him another couple with a baby and then two girls came in. They sat everyone but us I saw a table open they were cleaning it off all the sudden I looked back and there's probably I don't know 10 or 50 people behind me. All of a sudden she said she sat down eight people. She sat down for people and never offered us a table I wasn't quite sure, but I didn't know what was going on, so we just sat there for a few more minutes and she still bypassed again so finally, I asked her is that gonna be our table that you just cleaned off she said no it's for the four people behind you and I said, but we were here we've been here for 30 minutes. What is the problem? I don't know what she said to me, but I didn't pack my ticket. But if you wanted inexpensive unpretentious breakfast and couldn't get a seat at Jeanies or didn't want to wait at Pancake House, I could see coming here. Pros: the service was warm and friendly. We were in from Wisconsin for a baseball tournament, and while on the road, I like to try places to eat that aren't a chain. After reading reviews, we settled on grabbing some breakfast at the Yellow Cat Cafe. Boy, I'm glad we did! The corned beef hash was awesome; tasted just like my grandma used to make! My daughter had the sausage, cheese and egg sandwich, with a side of hash browns. My eldest son had biscuits and gravy, sliced fried potatoes and an additional pancake. My youngest son had two eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. My kids were super pleased with the food. My youngest son is hard to please, and he loved his breakfast, thought the hash was great (first time ever trying something like that!) and ate half of his brother's pancake! We tried out Yellow Cat Cafe on a recent visit to South Bend. We were seated almost immediately, and all of us thought that the ambiance was really cheery, with funny, old fashioned posters, lots of natural light, and the playful cat motif everywhere. There are also several shelves of hot sauce bottles of possibly every variety known to mankind. The menu has enough variety (no waffles though, and only one kind of pancake; boo!) without being too overwhelming. For someone who lives and eats in Chicago, the prices were also crazy cheap! A true "$" place, if there ever was one. I ordered the vegetarian omelette ($6.95) with the egg white substitution, and a shrimp basket ($7!!) to share with 2 of my friends. I ordered the omelette with hashbrowns and sourdough toast, and the shrimp basket with a pancake and onion rings. Unfortunately, they don't have freshly squeezed juices. The omelette was your typical diner fare; greasy and apt for a hangover. All the potatoes needed a good dose of seasoning and a splash of one of the hot sauces. The shrimp basket, while large in quantity, was similarly a little bland but was easily fixed with a mixture of the accompanying marinara sauce and sriracha. The onion rings were super crisp and delicious! The customer service is good, not exceptional. My timeline at Yellow Cat Cafe. 11:30 A.M.: My Boyfriend and I arrive at the restaurant to enjoy a nice breakfast at a local cafe, and to make the most of our Sunday before returning to law school from our fall break. 11:30-12:00 P.M.: We engage in a nice conversation - talking politics, social issues, etc., and look into each other's eyes, enjoying each other's company. They pour our coffee probably 2-3 times in this span, and take our order. All is good so far - we understand that there is a wait, especially because they did have a sign warning us that the wait would be bad. 12:00 P.M.-12:30 P.M.: We continue our nice conversation, and our coffee is filled 1-2 more times. No food yet. Our stomachs grumble with the roar of a thousand lions, but we forge on, intent on enjoying our Sunday morning over a nice breakfast. 12:30-1:00 P.M.: We continue our nice conversation, but I notice that we have gotten weaker, but still we forge on with no food in our stomachs and with less energy. We notice a couple in front of us and a few tables surrounding us that were at the restaurant before us that still haven't gotten their food, and are getting more and more antsy, and staring around wondering what is happening. They all stare at the kitchen wondering how such a small, busy kitchen can produce so little food in such a long time span. It has been a 2-hour wait minimum for them, and it seems it's not looking good for us. Then, the couple in front of us leaves before getting their food, as they have waited a fortnight. Their conversation has ended, as they have run out of things to talk about in the time span they were there. The waiters seem to immediately clean their table up - faster than lighting, which is weird considering the pace of the food delivery system here. We ask the waiter what the status is, and that we have been waiting a LONG time. He rushes through his statement, declaring that he would ask. He goes into the kitchen, returns, and states, solemnly: "I believe there are 4 tables in front of you." No sorry was uttered. He leaves. 1:00 PM.-1:15 P.M.: Our coffees are refilled once more, and we notice that people are getting angrier. Tensions are high, and I feel dizzy from lack of food. Our patience is running thin, and I think we have been the most understanding customers thus far. All I really want is one "Sorry" from the waiter, and maybe I will feel better. The Sorry never comes. We count down the tables until our meal might be served. The waiter returns to fill our coffee, and we ask once more when our food might be served. He says, rather indignantly, "There's one table in front of you, it should just be 5 more minutes." Just 5 more minutes? I could've gone to a restaurant in my home country of Korea, and flown back by now, I think to myself as my stomach grumbles once more. 1:15-1:30 P.M.: Alas, the moment we've all been waiting for. The food is here. I have given up, but I forge on as I need food fuel for the day. I look at my boyfriend with a weak smile. He returns a feeble smile. The waiter states: "See! I told you it'd be 5 minutes!" I gasp in disbelief. How could he? After waiting for this long, he dare speak to us so indignantly and callously? Merlin's beard, I am astonished. 1:30 P.M.-1:45 P.M.: We brave the horizon, and start to eat, delving into the Hobo Skillets we have ordered, one buttermilk chocolate chip pancake, and the french toast. As we eat, we realize our mistake. The skillet was only intended for hobos! Darn. The gravy is tasteless, and the food is bland. The french toast tastes microwaved. The pancake saves the day! It's chocolatey, gooey, and good. The toast is also not bad. Just as good as the frozen packs you buy in the aisle of your local grocery store - helps you drown your sorrows in butter. Our conversation turns from politics to the food. We wonder what time it is. Do our mothers miss us? Have our families filed a missing persons report? Have I missed class? Has Hurricane Michael passed? Has my friend's husband come home from war? All this time - not one sorry uttered from the waiter/waitress about our wait. We sympathize with the difficulty of a waiter's job. My mother was a waitress - it's a hard job. I would hate to make it harder. But, this service won't stand. This food won't stand. 1:45-2:00 P.M.: We decide we have had enough. The people around us are now getting their foods, but they look weak. They look like they have seen enough. My boyfriend and I pay. We leave. We bond with two others outside who also wonder if a fortnight has passed. We forge on. read more
