Visited on Father's Day. It was obviously very busy that morning. I have been to this place a couple times in the past, food is just ok. Jalapeño sausage omelette is great. Pancakes are also good. Breakfast potatoes are not good, overcooked and undercooked at the same time. Facility could use some maintenance, floor of building is way out of level and the tables are tilting to the point you wonder if your drink is going to tip over. I would not use the bathroom there, toilet handles falling off, just gross in general. Walls are all scratched up and need some help. Overall cleanliness of restraunt not good. Table was soaking wet when we sat down, paper menus were soaked through once sat down. Wait staff did their best on the busy day, no real complaints. They need a short shutdown for facility maintenance is my real only suggestion. read more

We've been vacationing in Three Oaks for 15+ years and I never miss having brunch here when I'm in town. There are so many inventive and mouthwatering twists on brunch staples like the sweet potato waffle or the cheddar grit cakes. Their breakfast potatoes are SO crispy and have herb seasoning and come in a huge portion and are simply the best. They are kid friendly and servers have always been kind and helpful. It's not a very big space so it can get a little crowded at popular times, but you won't regret waiting for this food. Bonus: there is patio seating. Not a super scenic view but you can watch the happenings on the Main Street of Three Oaks and are close by to shopping and arts. read more

We stopped in on Friday morning around 0800. We were the only two in the restaurant other than the staff. That changed about 30 minutes later so maybe just a slow morning. We both ordered coffee and took a few minutes to look over the menu. The coffee was above average which is always a plus and we settled on the biscuits and gravy and the jalapeno sausage omelette. They biscuits and gravy were very good with just the right amount of seasoning. The omelette was good overall but needed some more heat from the jalapenos. We ate this meal two times while visiting the Town of Three Oaks so surely it is a Silver medalist! Made with almond flour and potato starch, this gluten-free waffle is light and cinnamony with a delicate and crispy crunch and we declare it a winner! Simply the best! The Chilaquiles were also a contender for best breakfast dish. Crunchy fried tortilla chips, generous portion of guacamole, black beans with queso fresco, fried eggs with crispy edges and herby cilantro. This dish did not disappoint. We are in town for a short vacation with friends and picked the Oaks Eatery based off the many positive reviews. After our experience, I'd recommend literally ANY other restaurant in town. We waited 30 min to be seated, which is understandable. We were a table of 8, so it's reasonable to wait. The poor waitress was clearly overwhelmed, and the other front of house staff was trying their hardest to help. But that stress definitely seeped into the experience, as it was clear she needed to move quickly. Many other cues that they were dealing with someone oppressive and unkind there became apparent as the visit progressed, but the most obvious was when my 5 year old got her food. She LOVES biscuits and gravy, and they boast a homemade plate, so we were willing to wait the extra 18 minutes. The food came out and looked great, and for the most part was delicious. But in cutting up the biscuits and gravy for her, I found a WHOLE FINISHING NAIL in the gravy, resting on the biscuit. The waitress was shocked, and quietly told us she would take care of it, encouraging us to order something new for her. It was immediately strange that she got so quiet and was looking around to see if anyone was watching, but I figured she didn't want to make it a big deal. When we got our checks, the waitress had just added her employee discount for 50 percent off a meal to just her biscuits and gravy. She was very apprehensive when we asked if we could just get it taken off, and then asked if we wanted the owner, because he was only going to allow this 50% discount. He came out and immediately played dumb, asking "is something wrong out here? What's going on?" And when confronted, accused us of putting the nail in the food. "Well my kitchen has nothing that would drop a nail in the food," and "well why would I take it off the bill, she is eating it right now." And a lot of other stupid and accusatory stuff. I'm not a dramatic person, I don't make scenes, I never send things back, and I was even apologetic for the nail, but this guy was such an asshole that I was ready to fight. However, we still had four children with us and I didn't want to make it harder for the poor staff, so we stayed cool and insisted we would not be paying for her meal. Long story short, avoid this place if you value your health and life essentially. If you take the chance, watch out for the insane "owner," who looked and smelled like he was a plumber that was there to look at a leaky toilet at the end of his shift, and not an owner of a 4.5 star restaurant. We probably wouldn't be back anyhow, since we aren't from here, but any slim chance we did have is out the window now. read more

Though not too large of a place, fortunately we had our choice of tables. I noticed they also have a dining patio. Our waitstaff was as nice as the host. Seems that each meal could substitute tofu for meat, great for us vegetarians. My husband had the breakfast burrito and I had the sweet potato scramble, each with tofu. We waited a bit of time for our meals, indicative of everything made to order. When they came out they were steaming hot and every bit worth the wait! We waited ANOTHER 20+ minutes for a new plate of biscuits and gravy. At the end, we asked to speak to the owner. He began by playing stupid "hey what's going on... is something wrong here guys?" Then he acted 1) like $6 off the $12 meal was sufficient when a nail could have been ingested, and then 2) he tried to accuse US, stating "there's nothing in my kitchen that has that in it". We weren't trying to even get the whole ticket comped (though I think that's not out of the question with something like this), but I thought the lack of apology, aggressiveness Towards us, and resulting huffy removal of the charge for the singular meal was pretty pathetic. read more

TL;DR: Food was ok, we found a nail in a dish, owner/manager was an unprofessional jerk about. Wouldn't recommend. This was among the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. It became evident by the end why, but if we hadn't been there with kids who needed to eat, we would have left without eating. To start, we had a big-ish party: 4 adults, 4 kids under 9, and we're in town for a short fall vacation. When we sat down, the table wasn't set, no biggie, but we didn't receive silverware until after our food was delivered. We also didn't receive napkins until then, and when we did, they weren't folded, just grabbed from the box and piled on our table . The service was slow, and our server seemed very disinterested in our table. In her defense, she was clearly overwhelmed as she looked to be the only server handling at least 5 tables if not the whole dining room. We placed our order, which included an order of biscuits and gravy. I think the make this dish to order because it took a while, but when it came out most of the food was good. However, the biscuits and gravy had a NAIL in it - I've worked in restaurants before, I understand how these things happen, but we only found it because the 5 year old who ordered it didn't want the green onion garnish. We asked for a new order of B&G which took 30 minutes. The whole table had finished our food before the new B&G came out. And when the server brought the check teir was a perfunctory apology and a 50% comp on JUST the B&G. We asked if that was right, not even comping the full order, and then realized that the server had used an employee food discount to discount the order. We asked to speak to a manager (note we had to ask for this, the only person we had interacted with to this point despite finding a nail in our food was our server), and a guy who I had initially presumed was a maintenance person based on how he was dressed and presented himself came over and argued with us, saying about the food, "Well she's eating the new order. And there's nothing in the kitchen that would have fallen into the food. What do you think we should do?" I said, as a person who's worked in food service for several years and run restaurants, I would have at least comped the full ticket if not the full table. So after arguing with us, somehow insinuating it was our fault the nail fell in a five-year-olds food, then playing dumb like he didn't know how to handle a situation like this like a normal food service manager, he reluctantly agreed to comp the dish. It was clear that the manager is an awful person to work with and the servers seem very unhappy, as the server was trying to help by using her own discount instead of asking the manager to do what he was supposed to do. The whole thing was absurd. The food was good, but I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more
